Just when you think that she’s dead and buried, Donald Trump breathes life into her infamous ass. He’s running for president, you know? I don’t think we’ve seen or heard the last from Donald, but I also didn’t imagine that he would summon up memories of Bill Clinton’s past to discredit Hillary’s bid in becoming POTUS. Proclaiming his campaign against his political rivals as “war”, Trump has not minced words towards his GOP adversaries nor is he bashful about attacking his “close” friends, the Clintons. It’s amazing how

White folk betray each other when they’re trying to advance their own agendas; easily forgetting their own primary codes of ethics designed to ensure trust and unity amongst their uppity classes of bourgeois people.

Simply put, I’ve heard it said over and over again during my lifetime that white people “will sell their own mommas for a dollar”, a fact that Donald Trump has seemingly pursued and grasped. He may have written a check, however, that his ass can’t cash despite all his billions.

Women voters are sensitive to Hillary Clinton’s plight and they really don’t like men picking on her. She stood by Bill in spite of his indiscretions knowing that “sidepieces” come a dime a dozen, but being married to the most powerful man in the world has its place in history. I wonder if ole Hillary ever called Monica a “ho”. I imagine she called Bill one…

Speaking of “hos”, Bill Cosby is being sued by at least fifty. Just like Bill Clinton, I’m sure that Cosby is tired of hearing this ISH. But like a bad rash that keeps returning, the “Cos” isn’t gonna get rid of these accusations/allegations anytime soon. At 78 years of age, I think he’s come to the conclusion that it’s time to fight back. I mean, what is there for him to lose? I’m sure that all his money/credit cards are in his wife’s name along with his electricity, cable, and automobiles. That’s what I’d do. No, I’d put it in my momma’s name. I trust my momma. I’m also sure that Camille will stand by him until he dies. “Cosby’s Hos” had to know that he had other hos around. Women talk. A lot of these “allegations” of “abuse” happened over the past 20

years or so, right at the height of the technological era. There is no way that 50+ women located geographically in the same area of the country could not know that Bill Cosby was a “player” AND married. How could they fall “victim” to Bill’s advances knowing this man belonged to Camille? I can assume one of the reasons why; they’ve done it before. Many times before.

Unlike Monica Lewinsky, these were “professional” hos.

Monica knew how to keep her mouth shut. Well, not completely. But, you know what I mean.

It was one of her friends who spilled her secrets. Remember Linda Tripp? She was the one who betrayed Lewinski. But, Monica trusted her just like the Clintons trusted Trump. Now, everybody’s pissed. I wish Cosby’s hos would have trusted him. I guess they did for about two decades but by coincidence or accident several of them bumped into each other and hooked up. And, you know what happens when two or more women “hook up”. They talk and share info. There had to be something that Bill possessed that piqued their interest besides his money and celebrity status.

Media reports state that these ladies weren’t after his finances.

They just liked being in his company. Hmmm, huh. Bill Cosby must have been packing more than Jello Pudding Pops in his pockets. Whatever they tried sho kept their taste buds satisfied for quite a while. I bet they wanted some mo, but Bill couldn’t make that happen.

Now, they want to destroy him and he’s fighting back.

As long as Donald Trump keeps bashing Hillary Clinton he’ll guarantee her victory in 2016.

s we begin 2016, our resolve for justice is as strong as ever and our commitment to equality renewed by both the progress we have achieved and the challenges that remain before us as a nation.

Whether it’s voting rights, criminal justice reform, economic disparities, racism, sexism, gender discrimination or any other area, we cannot ignore the work at hand, but we must also acknowledge the achievements we have made.

In that spirit, I would like to take a moment to reflect on some of the highs and lows of 2015 from my vantage point as we get ready for the road ahead.

June 17 is a date that will forever be etched in my mind, for it reflected both our advancement, and how far we have yet to go. That morning, Loretta Lynch was formally sworn in as Attorney General, becoming the first Black woman to serve in this prestigious role. But as we welcomed this historic occasion later that evening, we watched in horror as a White gunman opened fire at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, killing nine people.

Speaking at and attending several of their funerals were painful moments for me, ones which mark an extreme low point for the country for 2015.

Earlier in the year, I walked with the first Black president across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, standing next to activist Amelia Boynton Robinson who was in a wheelchair, and directly behind President Obama and Congressman John Lewis.

Both Amelia Boynton Robinson and Congressman Lewis were beaten on that very bridge decades earlier. It was a tremendous event that marked a high for not only myself and the Black community, but for the nation as a whole. Another pivotal marker of 2015 was when I stood with Andrew Cuomo as he became the first to issue an executive order to have a special prosecutor assigned to all police slayings -- something National Action Network (NAN) and I have fought in favor of for years.

Sadly, 2015 saw more police shootings and more fights for justice for these victims and their families. NAN and I were on the front lines around the Walter Scott case in North Charleston, the Corey Jones case in West Palm Beach, the fight for Tamir Rice in Cleveland and more. As we continue to push for police and criminal justice reform in this new year, let us not forget that places like Cleveland and West Palm Beach face March primaries where voters can express their outrage at the polls.

n several of Houston’s neighborhoods where there is a high concentration of felons, drug-dealing, poverty, violence, and other “ghetto plagues”, most people know the following names: Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, Larry “King Larry” Hoover, and Houston’s own, Carl Alonzo “Big Smitty” (killed in the 90’s / R.I.P.) To the streets, those names pack weight and earn respect.

Amid shootouts, fist fights, drug deals, promiscuity, and other forms of reckless actions; what is simply “home” to some can be considered as a sub-city of war zones and urban jungles to others.

Personally, I hear helicopters flying over my house on a fairly regular basis and gunshots nearly every night, and I’m not the least bit afraid. I would have to say that the reason I’m not fearful is because, at the crossroads of my life, I was forced to choose which road I wanted to travel; the fast-money road to death and/or destruction OR the clean-cut road to HBCU’s, Corporate endeavors, and the American Dream. So – I chose both, as I sold marijuana from the counter at my job (the Gulf Coast Bookstore, located at Ennis and Blodgett across from the Texas Southern University campus). My customers could order an English 1301 textbook and a dime bag of weed in the same breath and I would oblige.

In other words, I left “the streets”, attended Texas Southern, and blended in. After that, I left Texas Southern, joined the corporate world, and blended in. Yet, through it all I never stopped being a student. It’s my personal quest to study every person I meet, every situation I’m faced with, and every environment I’m placed in. And in doing so, I’ve stumbled across a connection

that should definitely be made, but has not yet happened.

“He who controls the streets, controls the city.” According to a very reliable source, this was Larry “King Larry” Hoover’s personal statement of advice to James “J Prince” Prince.

And so it is – The streets of 5th Ward have an unshakeable respect and commitment to Mr. Prince. Yet, his control does not reach much further than the boundaries of that specific area.

In observing the situation though, I would venture to say that “the only reason J Prince does not control other low-income neighborhoods as well is because he has not chosen to”.

The streets love and adore people who can maintain an upper echelon lifestyle, but still remain relatable. They admire the leaders who are cut from the same fabric, but perhaps just used a “different pattern”.

Now – Imagine if the likes of James “J Prince” Prince would link up with other local powerhouses such as Marcus Davis, Quanell X, Jarvis Johnson, Jolanda Jones, etc. Then – Envision them sitting at a round table and coming up with a collective plan that would do away with homelessness and hopelessness within the communities from which they originated. The aforementioned group of individuals is all fairly close in age and in public statute; all of them - 40-something and “on fire”. With similar beginnings, they all understand what it’s like to live in the ghetto. Can you comprehend the effect that these people would have if any solid plan of theirs would cross Mayor Sylvester Turner’s desk, receive a stamp of approval, and be placed into motion?

A SIMPLE CASE OF ‘WHITE FOLK BEING WHITE’

T

here is a saying that African-Americans use when they come across an unbelievable situation involving whites. These moments only occur when some White person has either said or done something that is so incredible that there is absolutely no way that they are aware of either what they just said or how Black folk are going to receive their statement/actions.

The saying I am alluding to is the following; “That’s just White folk being White folk.”

The saying means that although African-Americans recognize that there is no excuse for what some White person has said or done, we are not shocked by the events because that population often operates as if the sun rise’s and fall’s upon them.

One of the more startling things about moments when ‘White folk are being White folk’ is that there is no way of predicting its occurrence. Rest assured that there is nothing that Black folk have done, or will ever do, that causes ‘White folk to behave like White folk’. One needs to look no further than the unprecedented treatment that whites have bestowed upon Barack Hussein Obama, the President of the United States of America.

Unfortunately for those who have been victimized by ‘White folk being White folk’, they soon learn that ignoring their antics and refusing to stoop to their level of ignorance does noth-

ing other than encourage their unique brand of foolishness.

I am certain that many of our non-Black readers believe that they have to look far to observe ‘White folk being White folk’, the truth of the matter is that they need to look no further than Houston Texas.

After being sworn in to his new Mayoral position, Sylvester Turner was confronted by an occurrence of ‘White folk being White folk’. During the first Houston City Council Meeting that the Acres Homes bred Mayor was presiding over, Turner was rudely interrupted by Council member Michael Kubosh.

Councilman Kubosh, an At-Large Council Member, created his own opportunity to disrespect Turner by publicly scolding him “Look you just got here, we been here.”

This moment reminds one of the moment that Republican House Member Joe Wilson shouted “you lie” at President Obama while the POTUS was discussing his new health care plan.

Predictably, neither President Barack Hussein Obama nor Sylvester Turner was willing to stoop to the morally depraved level of their verbal attackers.

In Sylvester Turner’s case, there was no need for him to respond to Michael Kubosh’s absence of civility, because he already realizes that AfricanAmerican News&Issues would address this issue on his behalf.

Considering that Sylvester Turner and I are both from the ‘fo-fo’

there is an unbreakable bond between us and I will continue to pledge all of the resources under my control at AfricanAmerican News&Issues to not only protect this brother, but also issue a counter attack upon those evil-doers such as Michael Kubosh whose hatred for the African-American community and its leadership is so significant that it leads him into a blind rage of spewing controversial venom during the most inappropriate times.

So in conclusion, I must remind Michael Kubosh that in actuality ‘you just got here’ as you have only been in your position since January of 2014.

Rest assured that the staff and writers of African-American News&Issues will be closely monitoring you and your treatment of not only Mayor Turner, but also the entire AfricanAmerican community. If we deem you to be unfit for that position, rest assured that we will use every available resource to get someone in there who will understand that the time has long passed for us to simply look the other way when ‘White people are being white’.

Councilman Kubosh, rest assured that you now have a bulls-eye on your back and we’re watching you and everything that you say and do.

HOUSTON - Just recently, the honorable Sylvester Turner was officially sworn into office as the new Mayor of the City of Houston. The inauguration of Houston’s new Mayor, along with the city’s new Council Members and Controller took place at the legendary Jones Hall. Assigned seating for the public was made available at the Will Call windows of Jones Hall’s Box Office. And just as it was anticipated, the people lined up in great numbers to witness the exciting affair once the Box Office was opened.

Before the festivities were under way, the city’s crème de’la crème and everyday citizens alike mingled and networked with one another mostly by the lights of photographers’ flashes in anticipation for the memorable occasion to

begin. Then, once it was time, everyone in attendance was ushered to their free assigned seats.

Late-comers, however, were disappointed by extra tight security officials who, at some point, began turning them away once the tickets were all gone.

As expected, the hall, which seats 2,912 people, was filled, while the event planners had conveniently provided video for the upper tier and overflow areas of the venue.

Once the program had begun, the people applauded excitedly for all of the politicians who, accompanied by various loved ones as their personal escorts, graced the stage and then took their proper seats.

In the background, the media had their noses to the

grind, working to provide comprehensive coverage for local news outlets while the coordinators of the event put forth the same sort of efforts toward creating a pleasant atmosphere for the city’s elected officials’ inauguration.

After the crowd was warmed up by the enjoyable sounds of the Houston Symphony, everyone pledged their allegiance to the American flag together and joined in to sing along with home-grown (native Houstonian) Grammy Award winning Gospel Singer, Yolanda Adams to the tune of the National Anthem (Star Spangled Banner song).

Other performances included selections by the Carver High School Dance Department, The Church Without Walls Choir, and the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts chorus.

Not long thereafter, recently elected Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner, accompanied by his daughter, walked onto the stage and was received with a roaring applause. Then, only moments later, Sylvester Turner was sworn in publicly by the Honorable Vanessa D. Gilmore.

After Mr. Turner, Chris Brown was also sworn in. Mr. Brown is Houston’s new city controller.

During his inaugural address, the new Mayor made major promises regarding infrastructure (better known as the city’s plague of pot holes).

He addressed the supportive crowd by saying “I want to announce this morning that two weeks from today that potholes that are properly reported to the city’s 311 help and information line will be assessed and addresses by the

next business day.”

On the night before the inauguration, 61-year-old Sylvester Turner and other ceremony participants took to the stage for a rehearsal.

During which, there was an energy of hope and excitement that filled the environment.

Sylvester also spoke to a crowd of hundreds of people at Houston’s Historic “Market Square” on Sunday, saying “I want to thank each and every one of you for giving me the opportunity to serve you as your mayor.” Amid that same celebration, Mr. Turner spoke with Houston’s “Channel 2 Investigates” regarding what “official first action” he has planned.

“Fixing the roads,” said Mr. Turner. “Tomorrow morning after swearing in, I’m going to announce we are putting forth a plan, so if you call in about a pothole, within 24 hours, someone is going to be working on those potholes.”

Mayor Turner was raised in Houston’s Acres Homes Community as a part of a household which consisted of nine children. He is also a graduate of University of Houston and of Harvard Law School.

Creating more affordable housing in Houston is also at the top of Sylvester Turner’s “to do” list.

He addressed this topic with the following words “There are a lot of people in our city having a hard time finding affordable, work-force homes… housing - That’s been a major issue.”

When asked what would be at the forefront of his mind while he’s taking oath at the formal inauguration, Turner said he would most likely think of his mother and about how

she worked for years as at the Rice Hotel as a maid. He mentioned his father as well; a man who was a commercial painter and whom Sylvester also credits for encouraging him to be the person he is today, by teaching him that he could accomplish whatever he wanted to. Mayor Turner spoke warmly about the matter, saying “What I will be thinking about is the investment they made in their kid. I like to believe they are seeing a return on their investment, on their money, their time and their love.”

And so – With his family members seated up front and center, with friends and other die-hard supporters filling the seats of Jones Hall, with former Mayors and future colleagues watching from the side-line, and with tens of thousands of onlookers glued to their television sets, “Mister” Sylvester Turner was officially sworn in as “Mayor” Sylvester Turner.

And in days to come, we can be sure that all eyes will be on Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Both, those who support him and those who oppose him will watch closely for whatever it is that he will bring to the table.

Just as certainly, many people who have been cheering for him from the very beginning of his road to mayoral status will likely be the ones who will pose the most challenges, because, to many of them, he’s not only the Mayor; he’s the one who’ll make things change for the better; he’s the one who’ll help them out of their displeasing situations; essentially – he’s the one that will “rescue them”.

May all of Houston join in welcoming its newest mayor; Sylvester Turner.

elimination. Other schools would be Smith, Stovall, Harris and Hill, all based on the same criteria. Students of magnet programs that had been eliminated would return to their home campus and given first priority for available slots in other magnet programs, with the exception of 4th grade students, who will be given the option of continuing at Houston Academy. Staff will be placed into vacant positions on other campuses.

The order would have given the magnet program a protected status and funds from the government would have been provided for their operation. Also, several events and items were reduced or eliminated, such as the magnet festival and technology fair. The proposed cuts were approved by district trustees at the January 25 school board meeting before a packed house of incensed parents and student. But Bamberg warns the cuts may still not be enough to meet the needs of the nation’s 12th largest district.

Administrators say they still need $18 million to balance the budget.

“The only way we’re going to get additional revenue at this point is to look to the community,” said Bamberg, alluding to the need for increased property tax revenue, which could be as much as 13 cents

H-E-B Sixth Annual Slim Down Showdown Contest & Under SAN ANTONIO - H-E-B has named 30 community members and Partners (employees) from across Texas to participate in the sixth annual 2016 Slim Down Showdown presented by Nestle, Johnson & Johnson and the Texas Beef Council.

The Showdown is a 12week contest designed to provide contestants with the education and tools they need to live a healthier lifestyle, and the chance to win cash prizes.

In the Community Contest, 15 contestants were chosen to compete for a Grand Prize of $10,000 and a Healthy Hero prize of $5,000. They will embark on a life-changing journey alongside 15 H-E-B Partners who are eligible for a separate Grand Prize of $10,000 and Healthy Hero prize of $5,000.

Groove Phi Groove: It’s a catchy and “groovy” name, but what is it?

For those who don’t know, Groove Phi Groove is a non-profit organization that is centered on the ideology of “fellowship” and the strength thereof.

Their mission is to perpetuate the GEORGE NELSON “Fellowship’s” purposes. The National Office encourages affiliate chapters to participate in and support community service and civic programs aimed at

youth mentoring, academic tutoring, scholarships, and activities that address the problems of homelessness, drug abuse, and alcoholism.

To better serve our communities, the men of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. have pledged to support endeavors that project positive images of black American men and help to move us forward. This is an increasingly important challenge, as many people tend to focus on only the negative elements.

The Mission Statement of Groove Phi Groove further states “We don’t want to lose sight of those achievements that required the anguish, blood, and lives of the many black Americans who were essential in building this nation.’ The men of Groove Phi Groove have accepted the challenge and recognize that the overall success of their organization depends on their ability to serve as positive role models who will instill positive moral values in both, their own children and those young, black

American boys and men who may not have positive male influences in their lives.

Furthermore, the men of Groove Phi Groove have vowed to continually strive to set the right example by doing their best, pulling their own weight, and keeping their families, communities, and “Fellowship” first and foremost in their hearts and minds. Through these convictions, the men of Groove Phi Groove believe that their Fellowship’s contributions to society shall never end.

The organization closes its written Mission Statement by adding “The strength of our Fellowship can be measured only by the ties that bind us.”

By far, this is a very lofty and powerful mission.

Soon the organization will welcome Roy Douglas Malonson, Publisher of African-American News&Issues as the guest speaker at its 6th annual “Black & White Scholarship Gala”. In a recent interview, Mr. George Nelson, a leader of Groove Phi Groove, had this to say about the purpose and importance of the occasion: “This is our largest fundraiser of the year, where we give the funds to underserved “high school seniors”, “college freshmen”, and “college sophomores” in order to lend a hand to young people who are driven, but may not be fully financially equipped. Another organization leader, Mr. Darren Thompson’s outlook was similar in sentiment. “Education is one of very few avenues of hope that has been made available for the youth, and what we’re doing is granting financial assistance to as many deserving youths as we can. So basically, we’re easing the financial burden of a student and/ or their parents who are faced with the responsibility of having to pay for tuition all alone; especially considering the fact that college tuition is steadily increasing.”

On the organization’s website, the International President of Groove Phi Groove, Victor P. Henderson (Esq.), had this to say: “Dear Fellowmen, Family, and Friends: As Groove Phi Groove enters

its second 50 years of existence; some things are staying the same while others are new. At a recent Leadership Summit, our members identified our unparalleled brotherhood as one or our core attributes. Our history demonstrates that many college administrators did not want us on their campuses, because we were new and did not represent the status quo. The discrimination faced by Groove Phi Groove, especially in the 1960s, mirrored the challenges faced by black students who were integrating white college campuses. The message was clear.

“No need to apply.”

Yet, we persevered and would not take no for an answer. Simultaneously, our commitment to serving the people in our communities, especially young black men, is uncompromised and neverending. That is who we are and what we do. We give college scholarships. We mentor high school students. We make the journey easier for those who follow in our footsteps.

What is new is that our center of operations has changed. We now operate out of a brand new headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, the home of our birth. What is new is that we are giving away tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship money to schools like Morgan State University, Delaware State University, Lincoln University, Maryland Eastern Shore University and more.

What is new is that our brand of brotherhood is flourishing in new chapters on the shores of Ghana, West Africa, and God willing, we will soon be in Lagos, Nigeria. FORT BEND ISD – Elkins High School “Knights” Varsity Football team players and coaches helped make the holidays bright for approximately 30 Lantern Lane Elementary School students who benefitted from the team’s annual toy drive.

In an effort to give back to the community which has supported the team throughout the years, the Elkins football players host an annual toy drive on campus to collect toys for young girls and boys at Lantern Lane Elementary School, one of their feeder pattern schools.

Elkins works with the elementary school counselor to identify ideal candidates who would most benefit from the donations. The team then visits the campus, with toys in hand, to surprise the recipients.

This year, the team donated more than 400 games and toys for the students to enjoy for themselves and share with other children in their family.

“It feels really good to give back to children in our community,” said Right Tackle Kote Baker. He reminded students that they are our future and encouraged them to continue to work hard and remain model students.

HOUSTON – The Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC) announces the final month of popular The Abolitionists: Different Eyes Seeing the Same Reality and As Small As A Giant/Black Lives Matter exhibitions, both closing January 30, 2016.

Closing programs of the exhibitions include the January 16, 2:00 pm talk at HMAAC on Black Lives Matter by Syracuse Professor and Community Folk Life Center Executive Director Kheli Willetts and the January 22, 6:30 pm conversation at the Jung Center on The Abolitionists between Rice University Andrew Mellon Distinguished Professor James Sidbury and Sam Houston State University Professor Brian Jordan.

According to HMAAC CEO John Guess, “Kheli Willetts, who was a panelist for HMAAC’s Harlem Fine Art Show panel on Art and Social Activism, is one of the country’s most astute art and culture observers, and I’m thrilled that Houston audiences will get to hear her.” Guess continued, “ And getting James Sidbury whose latest research delves into the development of racial identity in America, and Brian Jordan, whose Marching Home book has been reviewed in the Washington

Post and Wall Street Journal, was the dream conversation for Houstonians we were hoping for when we thought of doing these exhibitions.”

ABOUT THE ABOLITIONISTS: DIFFERENT EYES SEEING THE SAME REALITY AND AS SMALL AS A GIANT/ BLACK LIVES MATTER These exhibitions have attracted thousands of visitors to the museum and resulted in many intense and animated discussions about contemporary and historical race relations. The Abolitionist exhibition, curated by HMAAC CEO John Guess, Jr., brings to Houston artist Ti Rock Moore’s provocative work from her Confronting Truths: Wake Up show at Chicago’s Gallery Guichard. Onlookers at that exhibit were torn between suggestions that Moore was exploiting racial tensions for her own gain and others who congratulated her for her vehemently antiracism stance. Moore’s exhibit is coupled the work of Pulitzer Prize Winning editorial cartoonist Clay Bennett’s recent take on the country’s racial climate.

Accompanying both exhibits is a video of Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren’s September 28, 2015 talk on Racial Inequality at at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute.

As Small As A Giant/Black Lives Matter, curated by HMAAC Curatorial Assistant Dominic Clay is inspired by the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and 1970s and charged by the call of the current Black Lives Matter Movement. Included in the exhibition are the works of community artists Aesha Lee, Mack Bishop, Phillip Pyle, KEVO, Eian Woodward and Dominic Clay.

HOUSTON - Commissioner El Franco Lee, was a native Houstonian, reared in Houston’s Kashmere Gardens Addition and a graduate of Phillis Wheatley Senior High School.

Commissioner Lee continued his education at Texas Southern University (TSU), where he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Technology; completed related course work and postgraduate studies at the TSU School of Public Affairs, and at the University of Houston.

Commissioner Lee began his political career in 1979 when he was elected Texas State Representative for District 142 where he served for five years.

In 1985, Commissioner Lee was elected and sworn in as the first African American Harris County

Lee was a great advocate of partnerships. Through partnering with various entities, his precinct has benefited through the process of combining resources toward a common cause, thus resulting in the enhancement of quality services and an increase in the numbers served.

Much of Precinct One is made up of the inner city, and over the years, Commissioner Lee worked hard to improve the quality of life for the residents in underserved areas. His emphasis on the inner city had a far-reaching impact and has been instrumental in providing services and opportunities for youth and young adults through various initiatives within the

Harris County Precinct One Street Olympics Program. In 1986, Street Olympics began as a Summer Youth Program, but has since developed into a network of recreational, educational, and health programs that include the Harris County Aquatics Program (HCAP), the Northeast Adolescent Program (NEAP), Bright Futures, and the Discovery Camp. Precinct One Street Olympics, Inc. now serves over 10,000 Harris County youth each year. Commissioner Lee has also helped the inner city through his participation in the SPARK Park Program, which upgrades inner-city school property for public park use. His participation in the SPARK initiative was the catalyst that led to the establishment of the Finnigan Park Project that, to date, has been

most successful in completing comprehensive park upgrades involving total renovations and new construction of some 9 parks within the precinct.
