San Antonio - William “Cruz” Shaw was elected to San Antonio’s City Council for District 2 in June 2017. Now it is his turn in the seat to try to make a difference in San Antonio’s District 2. A native of Houston, Texas, William H. (“Cruz”) Shaw III has a passion for helping people in his community. This passion is reflected in his educational, professional, and public service pursuits. “Over the past year, I have spent a lot of time visiting with residents from all across the District about the vision and direction for our community and they have a lot to say,” he said during the campaign. “I’m running for City Council to make sure those voices are heard.” BACKGROUND He is a 1999 graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, with a focus on juvenile corrections.

In 2009, Cruz graduated from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in November of that same year. While in law school, he was a member of the Hispanic Law Student Association and the Black Law Student Association. He also participated in the Criminal Defense Legal Clinic in 2008 and 2009, winning awards for his trial advocacy. CONT. READING
