What better way to give back to your community then learning the things that affect it, not only on a person to person basis but on a person to law basis as well as have knowledge of the law and know how to practice and apply this understanding on a judicial level by rising to the title of judge. In order to reach this achievement, more than a few qualification and right of passages must be met. Before a judge is takes their position in office in the United States, Each justice or judge will make a statement of promise to uphold the integrity of their assigned place, this is known as an oath and is taken in advance to performing the duties of his or her designated seat, and according to United States Code, Title 28, Part 1, Chapter 21 Subsection 453 states that “I, ___ ___, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impar-

tially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as ___ under the Constitution and laws of the United States. So help me God.” Undertaking this responsibility is not simple and can’t be completed in a few months. It could takes anywhere from 7 to 9 year or more, but it’s not impossible. A judge to be must first attend an undergraduate school to earn a four year degree, earn a degree in law, pass the bar exam, find a job and work as an attorney, gain experience, and finally obtain judgeship. This takes years of hard work dedication studying and concentrated effort, and in addition to each goal obtain you must show your knowledge with each step of the way as you proceed further. Judge Oswald Scott Jr has taken up this responsibility and by his title one could infer that he has in fact succeeded in what he set out to accomplish, however this was just the beginning of new journey.
