Welcome to the seventh issue of the Critics Choice Awards — FYC Showcase™. As a service to the membership, the Critics Choice Association (CCA) has partnered with Advertising For Media to create an advertorial guide that allows studios and networks to highlight films and shows we may be considering for our upcoming awards voting. CCA members know how challenging it is to stay on top of everything we might like to consider, and this FYC Showcase helps the members see what many of the studios and networks are most proud of this year. The FYC Showcase is designed as a voting tool and also a lasting yearbook of the year’s best films and series.
The print version of the FYC Showcase™ is being sent to all CCA members at the start of our annual voting period. The digital version of the FYC Showcase will also be available online at www.criticschoice.com and fycshowcase.com. The 31st annual Critics Choice Awards will be televised live on E! and USA Networks on Jan. 4, 2026.

STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: From Oscar®-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes the definitive retelling of Mary Shelley’s genre-defining novel of life and death — an epic drama about what it means to be human, to crave love, and seek understanding. Golden Globe-winner Oscar Isaac plays the brilliant but tortured scientist Victor Frankenstein, who embarks on an ego-driven quest to bring new life into this world, resulting in the Creature (BAFTA-nominee Jacob Elordi), whose very existence provokes questions about what it means to be a human and what it really means to be a monster.
This sprawling epic takes audiences from the remote reaches of the Arctic to the bloody battlefields of 19th-century Europe, as Frankenstein and his Creature go on their own search for meaning in a world that can seem quite mad. Also starring Mia Goth as the luminous Elizabeth and two-time Academy Award®-winner Christoph Waltz, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is a reminder of how, at heart, we are all creatures, lost and found.
CAST & CREW: Written and Directed by three-time Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro, adapted from the classic novel by Mary Shelley; Starring Oscar Isaac as Dr. Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as The Creature, along with Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and Felix Kammerer; Hair and Makeup Cliona Furey, Jordan Samuel, and Mike Hill (creature design); Costume Design Kate Hawley; Production Design Tamara Deverell; Cinematography, Dan Lausten; Score Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat; Produced by del Toro, J. Based on Denis Johnson’s beloved novella, Train Dreams is the moving portrait of Robert Grainier, a logger and railroad worker who leads a life of unexpected depth and beauty in the rapidly-changing America of the early 20th Century.
STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: Based on the novella by Denis Johnson, Train Dreams is the moving portrait of Robert Grainier (Joel Edgerton), whose life unfolds during an era of unprecedented change in early 20th century America. Orphaned at a young age, Robert grows into adulthood among the towering forests of the Pacific Northwest, where he helps expand the nation’s railroad empire alongside men as unforgettable as the landscapes they inhabit. After a tender courtship, he marries Gladys (Felicity Jones) and they build a home together, though his work often takes him far from her and their young daughter. When his life takes an unexpected turn, Robert finds beauty, brutality and newfound meaning for the forests and trees he has felled.
An ode to a vanishing way of life, an ever-evolving world, and the extraordinary possibilities that exist within even the most simple of existences, Train Dreams captures a time and place that are now long gone, and the people who built a bridge to a future they could only dream of.
CAST & CREW: Directed by Clint Bentley and Co-Written by Bentley and Greg Kwedar, the Academy Award nominated duo behind Sing Sing; Starring Joel Edgerton as Robert Grainier and Academy Award nominees Felicity Jones, Kerry Condon and William H. Macy, along with Nathaniel Arcand, Alfred Hsing, Clifton Collins Jr., John Diehl, Paul Schneider, and narrated by Will Patton; Cinematography by Adolpho Veloso; Score Bryce Dessner and original song “Train Dreams” by Nick Cave and Dessner; Produced by Marissa McMahon, Teddy Schwarzman, William Janowitz, Ashley Schlaifer, and Michael Heimler; Production Design by Alexandra Schaller; Costume Design Malgosia Turzanska; Edited by Parker Laramie; Casting Director Avy Kaufman; Visual Effects Ilia Mokhtareizadeh; Hair and Makeup Kaleena Jordan, Leo ‘Corey’ Castellano.
