How to Transform your Bedroom

INTO A LUXURY HOTEL ROOM

I

f you’ve ever stayed at a high-end hotel, you’ve slept on some extraordinarily lavish beds. From fluffy pillows to a sumptuous mattress, the hotel’s designer carefully selected each element in the room to create an environment that is stylish and comfortable, because they know you can’t have a positive experience without a great night’s sleep. But don’t you deserve deep, healthy sleep night after night—not just a few nights a year? To bring this luxurious sleep experience home, follow the lead of award-winning designers like Martyn Lawrence Bullard who, from his decades of experience in working with A-list clientele, has learned to select a mattress that is not only based on a person’s body type and sleep style, but is also handmade with all-natural materials and fabrics specifically selected for their comfort, quality, and non-carcinogenic advantages. “I think what I’ve really garnered over my 25 years of experience of working with some of the biggest celebrities in the world is…what they wanted in their mattresses, things they wanted their bed to feel like. So I’ve taken all that information and put that into the design of these beds. Along with the integrity and knowledge Custom Comfort has themselves has made these beds something, I think, really extraordinary.” Through their close relationships with well-known influencers within the design world, as well as involvement in prominent events such as the Pasadena Showcase House and American Society of Interior Designers, Custom Comfort Mattress has gained an intimate understanding of what people want in a high-quality mattress and have infused this knowledge into all of their mattress lines—crafting each one using traditional, artisanal, time-tested techniques.

Reclaimed Wood…

I

the Possibilities are Endless!

f there is one sure way to spruce up a room and give it character, it would be with reclaimed wood. Reclaimed wood is used from vintage barns and structures from all over the country – some dating back to the pre-1900’s era. Custom flooring, paneling, hand hewn beams, furniture, and barn planks can be created with this wood to not only bring a piece of history and a story to your home, but possibly a species of wood that may no longer exist in present day America. Reclaimed wood is offered in a wide variety of grains, colors and textures, each unique and individual, and can be custom made through a wide range of milling services – custom slabs, straight lining, moulding, gauging and ripping to size. Because this is a “green” product, it is recycled, already established lumber so it does not contribute to the depletion of current natural resources. For the DIY individuals, a product called RECwood reclaimed barn planks is a wood panel kit that can be installed yourself. Not only can these panels transform a wall, piece of furniture and much more, it is 100% made in the USA. For more information on how to add history and beauty to your home with reclaimed wood, you can contact True American Grain at 949-272-0292 or visit their showroom and mill shop at 27324 Camino Capistrano, suite 159-160 in Laguna Niguel (1.8 miles north of Avery Pkwy in the Crown Valley Business Park). Having a one-stop place to consult, design and create any piece makes it an enjoyable experience to give new life to an old product. You can also visit their website at www.trueamericangrain.com or the RECwood website at www.recwoodplanks.com. You can also see their ad on page 25 of this issue.

Getting Organized

By Kathryn LaBarbera

s space in the family home continues to be a problem, more people are searching for alternatives. The solution is to get organized. Take an inventory of everything you want to store in the space. Determine what you want to keep and get rid of the rest. Once you know what you are going to keep in the space, determine where everything will go. Group similar things together (all shoes or all shirts), and sketch the space to draw a plan. Use all of the available space. Since storage space is hard to come by, it is important to store things neatly and efficiently. Smaller shelves, cubbies, or baskets can make good use of the space where clothes are not hanging in the closet. The last decision you need to make is how you want your organized space to look. Whether you decorate with an art deco flair or are more traditional, it is important to create a space in the look that reflects your style. The hard thing is getting started. Look at your calendar and make a date. If you are having a difficult time or just don’t know where to start, call an expert. There are professional organizers and custom closet companies that help people every day. The key is to take the first step. For more information or to schedule a free design consultation, you can call Closet Factory at 800-692-5673 (please mention code 63). Or, you can visit them online at www.closetfactory.com

TRANSFORM YOUR KITCHEN AND OPEN YOUR LIVING SPACE

W

hile the home you fell in love with years ago may have suited you perfectly at the time, a creative kitchen renovation will address the changes in your lifestyle and expand your living space. In Orange County, most of the houses were built between the years of 1960 and 2000. During that time, houses were built with the kitchen hidden at the back of the house and small individual dining, family and formal living rooms. With today’s kitchen being the central hub of the home, opening up the kitchen to the rest of the house facilitates interaction between all rooms. There is a wide array of innovative options available. Removing a wall, vaulting a ceiling, opening view lines

and a creative cabinet layout can all contribute to the open concept. Updating your outdated kitchen with professional grade appliances will create a gourmet kitchen. This will increase the resale value of a home, but rather than looking at the upgrades in terms of selling, look at them as an investment in your quality of life. With extensive remodeling experience, a professional contractor can assist in turning your beginning ideas into detailed designs, providing layout ideas and additional resources that make the difference between a finished project with no detail and one that will grab the attention of every visitor as they walk through your home.

UPDATE YOUR KITCHEN AND BATHROOMS Without the Expense and Hassle of a Complete Remodel

T

he kitchen serves as a focal point of a home, it is the room where the entire family gathers and entertains. And the cabinetry is the most eyecatching part of the kitchen. Are your cabinets showing wear or are simply outdated, not reflecting the current style and color you wish they would? Signature® Cabinet Refacing is an alternative to replacing your cabinets, providing the look of entirely new cabinets at a mere fraction of the cost of new cabinetry. You can choose from thousands of different combinations of door styles, wood species, stains, glazes, and hardware. Keeping your existing cabinet frames fully intact, a factoryfinished ¼” thick beautiful and durable veneer is bonded atop them, then new doors, drawer fronts, and hardware are installed. Along with refacing your bathroom cabinets, there is a wide array of options available to transform your bathroom using the existing space. A walk in bathtub can make life simpler and safer. You just walk right in, close the door behind you, and fill up the tub. And when you are done, the water will drain quickly, and soon after, you will be able to stand up and walk right out the same way you walked in. With a tub to shower conversion, you won’t have to step over the side of the tub anymore and can still enjoy streams of water flowing from the shower head rather then filling up the tub. Whether you would like to learn more about Signature® Cabinet Refacing, or are interested in updating your bathroom, you can call Reborn Bath Solutions at 949-200-8739 to schedule an in-home consultation. You can also visit their showrooms located at 2981 E. La Palma Ave. in Anaheim and 23626 El Toro Rd. Suite B in Lake Forest (between Jamba Juice & Yogartland). YOUR WOOD

CABINETS AND FLOORS

O

ver time wood cabinets and floors look flat and lifeless due to dirt build up, wear and tear, scratches and age-discolored finishes. Cabinet and floor renewal is an innovative and affordable alternative to replacing, refacing (new doors), painting or traditional sanding/refinishing. In only a few days, your wood cabinets and floors will be restored to that like–new luster without the inconvenience, dust and odors from harsh chemicals. At a fraction of the cost, it will save you time and money. If you are looking to change the color of your cabinets, one option is to make a slight color change giving your cabinets a warmer tone of the wood without covering the wood grains. Pigments and dyes can be added to the new finish so that you can achieve virtually any color desired. Say you have maple cabinets and would like a slightly darker stained wood, the new finish can be custom dyed to your color preference and then professionally applied. You can chose to do a complete color change, which will dramatically change the style and look of your cabinets. Select from custom durable color finishes that do not chip or peel, and when applied there are no drips, streaks or bleed thru. If repairs are needed like gaps, holes, splintered wood, etc, they are made during the wood surface cleaning process. N-Hance Wood Renewal uses their proprietary, state-of-the-art non-toxic and odorless products. These products along with their advanced technology and processes were developed to provide consistent high quality results. For more information you can call, N-Hance Wood Renewal at (714) 907-1917. Life Happens…Are You and Your Belongings Properly Insured?

L

et’s face it, most people do not think about the “what-ifs” in life, or may think “That won’t ever happen to me”. The fact is, tragedy can happen to anyone at any time, whether it be your car, personal belongings, home or the well-being of your life. Even though you can’t predict the future, it doesn’t mean you can’t be prepared for the unexpected. You can protect yourself, your family and the things that matter most to you. Consulting with the right company who can offer a variety of coverages such as auto, life and homeowners insurance, not just for your standard track homes but also your luxury estates, can help make certain you are properly insured. Especially here in California, which is very prone to fires, most homeowners are under insured and may not even realize it.

42

ORANGE COUNTY LIVING • OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2017

This means their current coverage is not sufficient enough to rebuild your home in todays market. Working with a “one-stop” company that offers a variety of insurance options gives you the advantage of a more affordable, and valuable insurance plan. Kathy Majam, a highly experienced professional in this industry can tailor a personal insurance package to meet your specific needs. For more information or to set up a consultation, please call Kathy Majam at Orr and Associates Insurance Services at 800-311-3081. The Advantages of

GOING SOLAR IN CALIFORNIA

D

o you dread getting your power bill each month, especially in the warm months when you are using more electricity? Are you continually having to endure the heat during the summer months by not utilizing the a/c to try and keep your power bill lower? Have you considered going with solar power, but thought it would be too expensive to bother? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then it is time to really understand the advantages of how transitioning to a solar system will not only help you to reduce your expenses but also increase the value of your property. Many homeowners have the misconception that solar energy is expensive to obtain. The price for solar modules has lowered by more than half in the last few years. Advanced racking technology and rapidly improving installation of skills further helped to reduce costs to a level that can be paid off in just a few years. By installing a solar array, homeowners can enjoy reducing their monthly financial burden when having to pay their electric bills. Also, solar backup storage option is becoming more viable and affordable, reducing utility fees and providing energy security in case of a power outage. Solar panels have made increased advancements productively as well as aesthetically. Sunpreme is a U.S. company that designs some of the best solar panels currently available. The low profile

46

ORANGE COUNTY LIVING • OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2017

design and glass on glass technology give the home a modern look while increasing performance and durability of the modules, especially in warner climates including coastal climates. The PV cells are better protected from many of the issues that traditional panels have with uncommon weather such as high heat, high humidity or high salinity. In addition, the advanced technology allows for a minimal amount of roof space used to cover the same amount of power production compared to other panels available, producing up to 30% more power output in the same space. With its high-efficiency coupled with the lowest temperature coefficient among all solar panels, each panel is capable of producing the most energy per square foot, whether on a rooftop or on the ground. With more power available, homeowners benefit from greater electricity production for a faster return on their investment, which adds to the value of their home. To learn more about how you can significantly reduce the cost of your power bill, you may contact Sol-Up USA, LLC at 949-632-0056, or email info@solup.com. In business since 2009, they will take care of the whole process from beginning to end as well as offer cleaning and maintenance packages. You can also visit their website at www.solup.com. A Remarkable, Unique

Patio Opening Roof System Adapts to the Weather, or Your Mood

T

he Louvered Opening Roof System is constructed of Zincalume louvers that rotate from completely closed to 155° open, by use of a small motor. It is safe to use and incredibly easy to operate. The motor is powered by a 12 volt transformer. A portable-remote controls the operation of the louvers. The Louvered Roof System offers many benefits, including: Versatility. It can be built as a patio roof or commercial cover. It can also be installed flat or pitched. Sun control. The louvers can be positioned during winter months to cast the sun’s natural warmth into rooms to save on energy costs. During the summer, they can be moved to

48

block direct sunlight to protect your home from unwanted solar heating. Light control. With the push of a button, the louvers can be moved to give the desired amount of light into your residence. This is a great way to naturally illuminate work or living areas while cutting back on power consumption. Ventilation. During the summer months, a place in the shade is where you want to be. The Louvered Roof System provides this by angling the louvers to a partially open position. Providing natural ventilation as hot air escapes and cool air replaces it. Rain protection. The Opening Roof System has a uniquely designed louver that provides complete overlap to help prevent rain penetration.

The Beautiful Energy Revolution

FOR THE DESIGN CONSCIOUS

M

any homeowners are converting to solar to save on their energy bills and help the planet. However, an alternative to having panels on your rooftop can now be a beautiful, stylish, kinetic piece of art right in your yard to provide clean energy for your home. The name Smartflower™, the world’s first all-in-one, self-contained, portable solar system, comes from its design. The solar cells are arranged on free rotating individual “petals” that open at the beginning of each day. After the sun goes down, the Smartflower petals fold down and a self-cleaning process kicks in. Behind each solar petal are brushes that automatically remove debris, allowing for more sunlight to be converted to energy. The petals stay cool due to excellent ventilation, resulting in up to 10% more efficiency. In addition to solar cells, the Smartflower is designed with dual-axis tracking technology. Utilizing location, date and time calculations, the petals follow the sun across the sky throughout the day from both east to west and north to south, even when it’s cloudy. Due to the tracking and self-cleaning capability, combined with cool petals, the Smartflower produces significantly more electricity than a similarly-sized conventional solar system - up to 58% more. For such a smart system, Smartflower is incredibly low-maintenance. After a simple installation, Smartflower quickly adapts to its environment. It asks nothing of you except to just go about your day and use the clean energy it provides.
