world. One of the requirements from the homeowner was luxe comfort and being able to enjoy their family home with their children and those close to them.

Says Schanè “This project was driven by a need to create a sense of opulent relaxation, unassuming in character and luxe in execution. We wanted to create a visually stimulating environment for a young, high flying executive couple travelling the world who are used to the very best. But they still wanted to feel comfortable in their holiday home with their family, as well as relaxed when entertaining their contemporaries.”

Saturated, warm colours and fixtures were implemented in the bedrooms, giving the rooms a feeling of togetherness. Taking full advantage of the surroundings, Olàlà designed the outside entertainment areas to allow the owners and their guests

to enjoy the abundant and lush green fauna. Solid wood pieces fuse with contemporary elements, respecting the collaboration between design and the home’s natural setting.

confidently placed in the main living areas and accent chandeliers generously hang throughout the remainder of the home. Every aspect of the decor is visually stimulating, unassuming in character and luxe in execution.

Featured South African artwork hung proudly above the staircase, making it a pivotal point when guests enter the home. The wallpapered accent walls were also carried across to the second story, ensuring a consistent rhythm of patterns and designs.

The Olàlà! team was 100% responsible for the conceptualization of the design, and employed their magic touch and creative styling insight to make it picture perfect. This house celebrates the many pleasures of life, creating an exuberant feeling of wellness.

Tintswalo Atlantic has been under reconstruction after the devastating Cape fires of March 2015 destroyed most of the lodge. This prestigious property has finally returned to its former glory and is open for business.

Focus on the décor and design elements have been imperative during this reconstruction and restoration and Gaye Corbett, co-owner and CFO of Tintswalo Lodges, commented on the interior of the lodge, saying, “We are so fortunate to be surrounded by the most wonderful and naturally beautiful environment. It is important to us that our guests are intrigued, entertained and captivated by our eclectic interiors too.”

Losing one-of-a-kind pieces during the fire made furnishing the lodge the second time around quite a difficult undertaking. “It was very challenging to find replacement pieces, not only because the originals were so unique but also taking into consideration the time that has passed since the original purchases were made – and the difference in price! However, I have to add that our suppliers, especially the ones in Cape Town, were so helpful and accommodating in assisting us with custom-manufactured pieces.”

The reclaimed wood from the Milkwood trees tragically burnt in the fires has been repurposed to create pieces of the lodge’s interior. “We were introduced to artists, Craig and Grant, from Forrest Creations, who were able to salvage substantial pieces of wood from the dead Milkwood trees. The soul of the trees will continue to bring great energy into the new hotel.

Gaye says it is impossible to recreate the uniqueness of the old decor, “however, we have aimed to retain the same atmosphere while trying to bring in new elements too. Returning guests will see similarities as well as some refreshing changes, like the wonderful new fabrics. “ The new décor is just as beautiful and unique as the old and guests will be as mesmerised and delighted as they ever were.

Originating in Scotland, the iconic birthplace of British knitwear, Pringle is famous for their first of a kind luxury cashmere knitwear. Johanna has received many accolades. She says the one that stands out most for her is the EY Emerging World Entrepreneur award. This accolade catapulted her onto the international stage and she has had the good fortune to meet the likes of former British Prime Minister’s wife Cherie Blair, as well as heads of State, international CEOs, dollar Billionaires and many other influential and dynamic world movers and shakers.

partners asked her if she wanted to see the world?

“And being a young lady from Soweto at the time, I replied that was exactly what I wanted.” And so was born their concept of launching a travel agency. “I’ve been around the world twice now, and enjoyed every second,” she adds laughingly.

Her travel agency prides itself on world-class service, so much so that even competitors acknowledge this quality makes Travel With Flair stand head and shoulders above the rest. “Anyone can issue a ticket,” says Johanna, “We focus on the ‘how’ and give our clients a service they will never forget.” They have found their niche in arranging business travel, specialising in planning incentive trips offered by company CEOs to deserving employees. A mix of clients ranges from both private and public sectors. Her advice is to love what you do and remain hands-on at every level. The agency has the highest staff retention rate in the industry to date.

Travel With Flair embodies Johanna’s core values of helping others. They have their own Seta accredited Training academy (GTA), which has received an award for excellence. “ If you are going to show up, always bring your best game,” she says.

Johanna is committed to helping those less fortunate. She is Chairperson of the Salvation Army and works with a home for abused and abandoned girls. Her ethos is helping women find opportunities to create a better life.

Johanna says she has loved every moment of her journey so far and feels enormously grateful for all the amazing experiences she has had. “It drives me to reach higher and higher. “From the first meeting it was clear that the couple wanted a sophisticated and luxurious celebration but still keeping it relaxed, fun and truly enjoyable.”

After 24 hours of traveling and much anticipation Dyl and Jen had finally arrived in Las Vegas! The happy couple spent the first few days enjoying the sights and nightlife, until their special day was upon them. It was Halloween in Vegas, the streets were alive with excitement and they were ready to celebrate. After months of ring shopping and loads of preparation, their one year anniversary had arrived. Excited and ready to face the day, Dylan the happy planner sped off to double check his special plans. Three hours later the over zealous Dyl arrived back at the hotel, drenched with sweat and out of breath. In his enthusiastic state he’d convinced himself he could walk back from the other end of the strip. He’s an athlete, he’s fit, he lifts huge weights, he could do it! One major factor which was innocently over looked by the now exhausted Dyl was the 40 degree heat and one minor detail... they were in a desert. Now, later on in the day all dressed and ready to go,

the dazzling pair set off to their “limo”. A large black 4x4 eased forward and a tall man appeared. Out he hopped and confidently walked over to them. With a big friendly grin and a bold American accent he casually said “So you two here for the engagement”. The blood had completely drained from the now anxious Dyl’s face. His engagement plans had be foiled. Also realizing that Americans appear to have slightly different ideas when it comes to what a limo actually is, they set off to their dinner. Dyl still thinking the driver had let the cat out the bag, was completely oblivious to the fact that he had a large bulging square block protruding from his right jean pocket. After a short drive they arrived at the most exquisite restaurant, the ‘mini’ Eiffel Tower. Dim lighting, soft music, and panoramic views of the famous Bellagio fountains. The beaming pair were escorted down to their very carefully selected corner table, followed by drinks and a romantic candle

lit dinner. The mains were finished and suddenly an awkward silence set in... The silence was filled only by the anxious pocket fumbling of Dyl trying to tug the now firmly wedged ring box from his tight jeans. In her nervous state Jen now realizing what was about to happen muttered the first thing that came to mind “you are making this so awkward just hurry up and do it” words that will haunt her engagement story for the rest of her life. Dyl, now back in the winning seat, had managed to remove the box and slid it calmly across the table. With one fell swoop he flicked the small blue box open and asked “do you want to spend the rest of your life with me”. Out came a simple “yes” from his beloved Jen. Now feeling confident of his decision and her response, the brave fiancé to be asked his beautiful Jen “will you marry me”. Always teasing girls who burst into tears during those soft sweet moments and vowing to herself never to be ‘that girl’. Jen in all her glory

opened the flood gates. The beaming Dyl now ecstatic that he’d received some kind of response was smiling from ear to ear. Still unsure whether the now bawling Jen was accepting his offer he quickly said “you haven’t said yes” To which a resounding “yes of course I’ll marry you” brought music to his ears and the Cheshire Cat smile already sparkling grew even bigger. After the now engaged and oh so smiley happy couple had messaged their loved ones, they met up with some old friends to continue their celebrations. And this our dear friends brings our lovely story to an end... The rest as we say is history. The two fiances excited about their future, began to plan their very special day and hoped all their closest loved ones would be present to share their love and wonderful start to the next chapter of their next journey.

Established in 1714 by two Frenchmen from the city Montpellier (“Spyseniersberg or Chefs’ Mountain” )

Established in 1714 by two Frenchmen from the city Montpellier (“Spyseniersberg” or “Chefs’ mountain”) in France, this historic Cape Dutch Wine Estate recently celebrated its 300th anniversary. Steeped in a rich history of wine making, Montpellier is renowned for producing wine with integrity and character representative of the Tulbagh.

In the years that followed Montpellier suffered neglect and fell into disrepair, 2001 Lucas van Tonder spotted its intrinsic beauty and potential. Lucas bought the farm and commenced a massive restoration, staying true to the original Cape Dutch design and craftsmanship, subsequently also acquired the neighbouring farm Constantia.

Montpellier Wine Estate is embraced by three imposing mountains of the Tulbagh and they create a unique microclimate ideal for viticulture. Unlike most regions in the Western Cape, the summer nights at Montpellier are cool and fresh due to these massive surrounding mountains.

The climatic influences and geography creates a distinctive terroir which defines Montpellier and enables us to produce a diverse range of top quality wines.

Montpellier’s spacious homestead is now a National Monument and stands as an outstanding example of Cape Dutch architecture. There are three casement windows on either side of the front door and above handsome ‘holbol’ gable decorated with a charming variety of motifs, the house if furnished with beautiful antique Cape Dutch, on 2 December 1967 a 1000 bottles of Riesling were hand bottled, corked and left to mature for four years as an experiment to establish the aging potential. The 1971 Riesling, matured for 18 months, was sold and became the first wine to receive a Gold Superior classification. Later, De Wet Theron added another three cultivars: a (bottled in 1971, it also received a gold superior classification, Rhine

In September 1969 a devastating earthquake struck the Tulbagh, leveling the original Cape Dutch homestead. De Wet Theron (former KWV president) restored his ancestral home to preserve the architectural heritage of Montpellier.

Lucas established new vineyards, including Mourvérde and Petit Verdot, on the rocky hillside around the chapel and on either side of the shaded mile of imposing trees luring guests into Montpellier. The maiden vintage of recently planted Pinot Noir will be bottled and ready for Christmas, after 18 months in second and third fill barrels.

These new vineyards produced a plethora of accolades of which the most recent being the MCC Brut 2010 and MCC Brut 2011. Both won Gran d’or double gold s at the 2015 Michelangelo Wine Awards. Out of 79 entries in the category (including entries from champagne) only six won.

His great love for wine and winemaking led Hein to receive the prestigious Personality of the Year Award from at the AGM of the Institute of Cape Wine Masters held on 12 May 2014.

Wine mogul, Hein Koegelenberg is a real force in the South African wine industry. He has been making waves internationally over the last few years. From South Africa to China, his passion and innovation has left a mark on the industry and is continuously striving to reach new heights.

Hein has successfully established himself as a leading entrepreneur and thought leader. He is the CEO of the world renowned La Motte wine estate, situated in the Franschhoek valley of South Africa’s wine region and is also the co-owner and CEO of Leopard’s Leap Wines.

Born in Laingsburg in South Africa’s Karoo region in 1960, Hein Koegelenberg was destined for a life blessed by wine when his family bought a wine farm six years later.

Situated in Vredendal, Goedgegund Wine farm sparked Koegelenberg’s interest in the fruits of the land and after agricultural school he went on to complete an honours de-

gree in viticulture cellar technology at Elsenberg, a tertiary agricultural college outside Stellenbosch in the heart of the South African Winelands.

His career as a winemaker kicked of in 1984 at Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch and he later joined Windmeul Cellar in Paarl. His dedication to wine saw him moving quickly through the ranks from assistant winemaker to chief winemaker and ultimately CEO of the co-operative winery before joining La Motte in 1998. Unlike many other winemakers, Hein adds his personal touch to the wine produced on his farms. Each year, Hein and his winemakers visit a wine farm in France where they produce their own personal wine, with their individual selections. Every year he tastes a wide selection of international wines. “I can only make the best wine if I have tasted the best wine.”

The affect his experience has had on Leopard’s Leap Wines is evident and it has been established as a global wine brand sold in more than 40 countries. He has helped build Leopard’s Leap into a top-notch upmarket retail brand. With his extensive experience in the wine industry, Hein was a founding member of Meridian, a South African distribution company. He is also a board member of the Franschhoek Wine Valley association and is actively involved in promoting Franschhoek in Asia. Introducing the world to the richness of South African wines has always been Hein’s passion.

His core business value begins with opportunity and believes there needs to be a perception of opportunity alongside a positive energy; something all entrepreneurs need. “In South Africa, we have too many people with minimal experience and they then only measure up to that minimal experience. I believe if you want to compete with the world industries you have to taste what the world is producing, that is the philosophy behind our brands and the way wine is produced and distributed.”

Hein is a true all rounder; merging his passion for wine with his passion for business has allowed him to successfully grow into one of the most recognized winemakers and businessman in South Africa.

It is in this ideal setting that Ivy Du Toit, one of South Africa’s pioneer woman winemaker’s, and her family are keeping alive the tradition of vine growing and wine making that was started by their ancestors in 1844.

Jason’s Hill Private Cellar is a 5th generation family owned cellar that is tucked away in the heart of the Boland at the foot of the Slanghoek Mountains. With its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate the very best of grapes are produced for making award-winning wines.

after harvest seasons in America, France, and Italy that she decided to try her own hand at winemaking. During the harvest season of 2001 Ivy, then 21 years of age, enthusiastically phoned her dad from United States while working at a wine cellar to say, “dad, I want to make my own wine” and this is where Ivy’s journey began.

In an old garage on the farm, with grapes from dad, Sakkie’s, produce and barrels bought with her savings money, Ivy made her maiden Shiraz in 2001. Everything from the picking, destemming and bottling was done by hand. This wine was matured in small new French, American and Russian oak barrels for 14 months, which ensured this limited release its own

Pinotage is a South African signature wine variety. Like many things in this country, it can be a bit daunting when first encountered! However, with patience and understanding it is possible to master this mysterious, idiosyncratic variety.

Pinotage is a 1925 South African crossing of two different grapes, Pinot Noir and Cinsault. In those days, Cinsault was called Hermitage, hence we have the name Pinotage.

Flagstone Wines have a range of fantastic Pinotages to satisfy every price range. Included in this range is the Flagstone “Writers Block” 2013 which has won numerous awards, including Platinum at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards. “Writers Block” is crafted from a single vineyard block high in the Waaihoek Mountains, above the sweeping Breedekloof Valley, an hour and a half’s drive north of Cape Town. This wine has a deep, incredibly dark purple colour, with lively bright purple edges. On the palate the wine is ripe and generous with a core of wild blackberry, preserved plum and youngberry. Another Pinotage option is the mid-priced

Flagstone “Truth Tree” Pinotage which won a Silver medal at the Veritas Awards. Packed with black and red fruit, the nose is complimented with subtle earth and spice aromas which emanate from the dark, brooding inkiness. This Pinotage is dry but with a wonderful soft fruitiness. Then in a breathtaking achievement, Platters Wine Guide, which is considered the most comprehensive annual guide to South African wine, announced that Flagstone Wines achieved a 5 star rating for their Flagstone “Time Manner Place” 2012 Pinotage Reserve.
