I’m excited you picked up a copy of Affidian Magazine or downloaded the E-Magazine online.

The year 2023 has been highly transformational for me, and I’m betting for you as well.

So many old ideas were adjusted, reassessed, and incorporated into newer, better platforms.

Affidian Inc., launched as a Digital Marketing Agency in 2009, is branching out from publishing a dance magazine for over 12+ years to Affidian Magazine, a magazine for High Achievers.

Along with the Magazine, we launched Affidian Network - a community-based marketing and promotional platformalong with the Affidian TV Channel we are currently building out, the Reading Room, to showcase our members published books and The Studio, supporting our members’ courses and workshops.

It is a huge undertaking, but the anticipation of seeing where this will lead in the near future is so exciting.

Detoxification -the word is quite familiar but not everyone understands the full implication of the detoxification process. More importantly, why we need to Detox on a regular basis.

Everyone knows that we suffer from air and water pollution, especially in the big cities. However, very few people know how badly the soil is polluted from the chemicals used in farming.

There are roughly 100,000 synthetic chemicals being produced and sold worldwide and another thousand are introduced each year. These substances which are not naturally occurring and for which little safety data exists are everywhere – in our air, food, water, and things we touch.

We breath them, eat them, and absorb them through our skin. This toxic overload severely taxes the body’s capacity to effectively deal with the toxins needing to be removed.

Internal detoxification is one of our most basic autonomic functions. Our bodies were created to neutralize normal biological toxins and rid itself of accumulated wastes and toxins. This takes place through the lymphatic system controlled spleen.

And by filtration and liver’s conversion of toxins to water soluble substances or fat soluble substances. Also externally through the lungs and skin by breathing and sweating. And internally by kidneys/bladder and colon through urination and defecation

Now, in addition to the normal range of unnecessary or harmful materials the body must purge on a daily basis, modern society adds an onslaught of unnatural substances to be dealt with.

We have little way of knowing the toxic presence in foods. As the body becomes overwhelmed, impurities accumulate. They are tucked away in whatever available spaces can be found, pending removal. Foreign substances that can’t be eliminated may be ‘quarantined,’ stored in mucus or fat so as not to trigger an immune reaction.

Toxins can lodge around joints, forming crystals, or bind to proteins in interstitial tissues. Fat-soluble toxins will find their way into fatty tissues. Cholesterol will collect in arterial walls or as gallstones.

Minerals may form stones in the kidneys and bladder. Glycoproteins form mucous deposits in connective tissue. We must get rid of these toxins on a weekly basis to prevent cancer, dia-

betes, arthritis and autoimmune disease.

Here is a short list of common neurotoxins in order of importance:

(i) Heavy metals: such as mercury, lead, cadmium and aluminum.

(ii) Bacteria, viruses, intestinal parasites and fungi. These show up as tetanus toxin (vaccination), botulinum toxin (botox), unspecified toxins from streptococci, staphylococci, Lyme’s disease and Chlamydia (STD).

(iii) Environmental toxins such as dioxin, formaldehyde, insecticides, and wood preservatives, PCBs etc.

(iv) Food Preservatives such as aspartame (diet sweeteners) food colorings, fluoride, methyl-and propyl-paraben, etc.

Fatigue is one of the basic symptoms of neurotoxins and Self medication is one of ways we treat fatigue. Some people run their bodies on caffeine rather than on their basic life force (Qi) and the natural energy of their hormones, such as adrenal and thyroid. Caffeine, although not seriously addictive, is very habit forming.

For anyone seriously interested in health, like athletes, should not drink coffee on a daily basis. Although it may improve muscular work and short-term performance in both physical and mental athletes, it creates depletion by its diuretic nutrients, and Asian foods can help balance this.

Asian Detoxification and internal cleansing practices are opportunities to realign us with more wholesome and harmonious patterns. With self-awareness, the healing crisis becomes the healing journey.

Detoxification include dietary changes, sweating, acupuncture and auricular therapy (Ear acupuncture), Juice feasting, and colon hydrotherapy.

The basic Asian Diet Detox program:

1. High quality vegetable protein from Leafy greens, tofu and sprouts.

2. RE-mineralization from Carrots, celery, broccoli, and other crunchy vegetables.

3. Essential Fatty Acids from fish oil, safflower oil, flax oil, coconut oil, Chinese sesame oil and Chinese peanut oil.

4. Increased Fluid intake from water and green tea

Enjoying an Asian diet several times a week is helpful for detoxification. There are many Asian Fruits that can be used for snacks or desserts such as Asian pears, carambola, kaki fruit, mandarin oranges, litchee or tangerines. Soups are excellent before a meal such as miso, corn or seaweed soups.

Leafy greens like Bok choy and baby Bok choy, broccoli leaves, Tat soi, Chinese cabbage, Chinese spinach, red mus-

tard greens and Chinese kale are great detoxifiers as are bean sprouts. Fermented soybeans such as tofu or tempeh and some nuts and seeds like roasted peanuts, walnuts, cashews, sunflowers and almonds are the basis of this high-nutrient Asian diet. Of course, vegetable salads that include beans, seaweed, baby corns, water chestnuts, bell peppers, celery, carrots, cucumbers, snow peas and Chinese parsley. Fast cooking requires delicious dark sesame or Chinese peanut oil. There are many benefits besides essential fatty acids. These oils are highly nutritious, rich in vitamins A, B6 and E as well as the minerals iron, calcium, magnesium, copper, silicic acid and phosphorus.

It contains linoleic acid and alpha linoleic acid as well as lecithin, and this may go some way to explaining its benefit to the brain and nervous system.

Fasting and Juice Therapy are both quicker way of eliminating toxins. Fasting in China is called Bi Gu or literally without grain. We do Qigong or vitality exercises three times a day for 20 minutes as a meal replacement. You are actually eating air or Qi (life energy).

Juice Feasting allows you to drink vegetable juice up to four times a day to re-mineralize the body and to eliminate toxins by reducing overload on kidney, liver and lymphatic system. Toxins are converted to water soluble substances which are then eliminated by the kidneys. A reduction of meat and sugar and of course eliminating dairy will also help in reducing toxicity. Avoid caffeine’s diuretic loss of potassium, magnesium, zinc and B vitamins, especially thiamine B1.

Caffeine also washes out vitamin C. All of these nutrients can be deficient unless they are obtained from foods in increased amounts or taken as Vegetable juice for an extended period of seven to twenty-one days.

Auricular Therapy or Ear acupuncture has been used for detoxification at Lincoln Hospital since it’s introduction by Dr. Omura, professor at Columbia University.

Lincoln Detox as it’s called, was the only hospital based acupuncture program in the US, directed by Dr. Mike Smith.

Through experimentation the staff chose five points that were needled in the ear with small three millimeters long thumb tacks. They are placed in these points for 1-2 hours each day. Under Mike Smith’s observation years this author has designed magnets that provide the same benefit for detoxification from drugs, food and alcohol.

Acupuncture Detox has been used since the beginning of time. The first recorded use is for snakebite. Now that is a neurotoxin to avoid. Acupuncture helps to eliminate withdrawal symptoms, calm and relax your nervous system and to eliminate craving for drugs. So, if you are looking to detoxify make sure to add acupuncture to your Asian menu.

Spa therapies like steam, sauna and whirlpool all help the body open its pores to eliminate toxins by sweating.

Alternating with cold water 40-50 degrees will help clean the blood and lymphatic system. Some people like Tony Robbins, the motivational speaker has a cold plunge of 50 degrees in his bathroom. Others like Laird Hamilton, six time world surfing champion build cold plunges of 40 degrees in his back yard.

We all need to detoxify on a regular basis. One day a week fruit fast, three days a month lemon water and cayenne, and seven days when the season change.

To this I would add mental and emotional detox. Elimination of negative thoughts, feelings, judgments and attitudes will go a long way to provide a healthy and happy life. Each night as you lay in bed, mentally review your day like the playback on a VCR.

Look at each of your interactions with co-workers, friends and people you meet along the way. Did you express kindness to everyone? Were you loving? Did you lift them up with your words and attitudes? Tomorrow you will do better. Notice that the older Asians always smile and bow upon greeting. What they are saying is the divinity in me recognizes the divinity in you. When you can see the divine in another then you become divine.

5 Tips To Prepare For Recession

You’ve navigated through an unimaginable global pandemic; you’ve experienced inflated prices. Are you prepared for a possible recession?

Here are 5 tips to make sure that you will not only survive, but thrive during a recession.

Tip # 1 is that it’s critical to be aware of what you’re spending compared to your income. Your income and your expenses are obviously the foundations on which the management of your finances are built. When considering the rising prices of everyday necessities like gas, food, and housing, you need to find ways of increasing your income to continue to increase the buffer or cushion between your income and your expenses. Maintaining more income in relation to your expenses will give you the peace of mind of having disposable income. This is the money you have left over after your mandatory expenses like rent, utilities, phone, insurance, etc. are met. How do you increase your income? This depends on your talents and skills and the effort you put into creative ways of turning them into cash. It also depends on your willingness and ability to learn new skills and ways of making money.

Tip # 2

Realistically, it comes down to our second tip, which is to have a savings plan. Dr. Preston Cherry, a financial wellness professor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay says, “The beauty of creating a plan is that you win when things go well and you win when things don’t go well”. This is all fact! Let’s say you are building a savings fund for a recession or an emergency. If that negative event never happens, and the danger is past, you have accumulated a pile of funds that you can tap for anything you want! Now if things do unfortunately go wrong, you’re covered because you took the time to prepare. Whenever you have a plan, in a time of need it creates confidence and peace of mind while eliminating the feelings of stress and anxiety. Wouldn’t you rather put in a little extra work to make sure that no matter what happens, you’ll come out on top? That seems worth it to me.

Tip # 3

The third tip is to build relationships with those who share your values. As humans, we’re made to connect and congregate, and that’s why COVID was so hard—everyone was isolated. So, find a group or community that has the same goals as you. Whether that’s a goal of building generational wealth, building a strong community, or protecting and providing for our families, seek these people out as you never know where it can lead or the true impact it will have on your life.

Tip # 4

Tip number four is to establish an emergency fund. Brandon of Worth-Life Balance, a self-proclaimed “regular millionaire,” states, “The worst time to do emergency planning is in the middle of an emergency!” I like to call this a “peace of mind fund.” Calling it a “rainy day” fund or “emergency” fund brings negative vibes and we don’t like that! Hearing the word “emergency” can make you automatically feel panicked, anxious, and worried. A peace of mind fund is a set amount of money that you build for when - not if, but when - something unexpected happens. This is so beneficial because having money to fall back on is literally what creates peace of mind! In the past, experts usually recommended three to six months of your expenses saved up. Considering what we have been through with COVID-19 and the multi-year pandemic, we recommend at least six to twelve months of savings!

Tip # 5

The fifth tip is to open a high-yield savings account (HYSA). This account is literally the same as a regular savings account, but you get more bang for your buck! You’ll get paid more interest than a regular savings account because most of the time these high-yield accounts are online only. This means that they can avoid the major expense of having an in-person location and are able to pass those savings along to you in the form of higher interest, which means more return on your money.

The Power of GRATITUDE

Recently, I participated in a summit called The Power of Gratitude hosted by Angel Marie Monachelli where I had to answer the following three questions.

1. How does expressing gratitude help us overcome negative emotions or challenging situations?

In the midst of gut wrenching experiences, I have witnessed some of my greatest GRATITUDE W.I.N.S. because I practice GRATITUDE all the time. Practicing GRATITUDE cues your brain to comb through thousands of bytes of information to find the pieces that bring you joy, make you feel safe and secure, and/or makes you smile. As the Buddhist believe, “Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.”

Pain is part of the human experience, suffering is an unconscious choice. One way to navigate through painful situations and not suffer is by Practicing GRATITUDE. It may sound like I’m oversimplifying things, but I’m not.

A few months ago, my mother had emergency surgery and died ten days later. Even though I was in pain, because my mother’s death was imminent, I didn’t suffer. I was acutely aware of all my GRATITUDE W.I.N.S.

Here are a few of my W.I.N.S.

- Hospice was supposed to call me on Friday. When I spoke to the nurse on Saturday, she said they tried to reach me several times but couldn’t get through. Oddly enough, everyone else could. Had they reached me on Friday, my mother would have been moved to hospice that night and I wouldn’t have met the Rabbi the next day.

- On Saturday, an Orthodox Rabbi came to see me in the hospital. The fact that he was part of the Jewish Emergency Service and answered the phone on Shabbat was a HUGE W.I.N.S. He told me to ”live with her tonight” - rather than focusing on the fact that she was dying. (These were magical words.)

- Later that evening, my mother was moved

to hospice and three of my best friends came to say their final goodbye.

Remembering the Rabbi’s words, we lived with her. For the first time since surgery, my mother was somewhat”

“cognizant, and smiled when she saw them. In between tears, my friends and I laughed as we reminisced about times we spent at my mother’s home, played my mother’s favorite music, and reminded her of how much we loved her.

- My mother’s last words were, “I love you.”

- And the last sound she heard - my laughter.

The Universe presented me with many more GRATITUDE W.I.N.S. throughout that period. Practicing GRATITUDE is a powerful tool to help you find magic in life’s challenges, rather then trying to avoid them.

2. Are there specific techniques or exercises you recommend to enhance the power of expressing gratitude?

Whether you’ve never practiced GRATITUDE or just want to amp up your GRATITUDE Practice, incorporate the SSBR Method into your day and watch what happens! Beware, a consistent GRATITUDE practice WILL change your life!

S - Set your alarm to go off every three to four hours.

S - When your alarm goes off, STOP what you’re doing!

B - Take a deep breathe!

R - Reflect! Look for your GRATITUDE W.I.N.S.

Answer the following questions to find your GRATITUDE W.I.N.S.

W - Who or what made a difference for me?

I - What did I do for myself or others? (This step is HUGE.)

N - How did I nourish my mind, body, or spirit today?

S - What made me smile or laugh until my sides hurt?

If nothing happened during that time, it’s OK, you can do it again. It’s a Practice.

3. How does gratitude affect our ability to manifest our desires and achieve our goals?”

“Practicing GRATITUDE, supports you in manifesting your desires and achieve your goals by showing you what’s going right, all the ways in which the Universe supports you, and on what YOU’VE done well.

At the end of each day, review your W.I.N.S.. Pay particular attention to the “I” in W.I.N.S. Doing this allows you to see the progress you’re making towards your goals and gives you reasons to celebrate yourself.

Too often we only celebrate milestone accomplishments or wait until we reach the end goal, rather than the steps along the way.

Practicing GRATITUDE gives you reasons to celebrate all the time! Furthermore, you’ll feel better, be happier and have greater connections with the people around you.

TOXICITY… within our bodies

In every issue, I write about adopting a cleaner and healthier lifestyle by detoxing from manmade/synthetic foods and animal products to keep you from getting sick and fat, but what about the toxic products used in personal care regimes, supplements, water, and cleaning products in your environment?

We use… furniture polish, suntan lotion, window cleaners and wipes.  We have wall-to-wall carpets.  We wear dry cleaned clothing.  We use teflon coated pots and pans, plastic containers and plastic wrap. We spray ourselves and our homes with synthetic fragrances.

We cannot live healthfully in this kind of toxic environment. So is this why we are sick?

A toxin is anything that the body identifies as a poison.

Toxins are External, Internal or SelfCreated: pollution, car exhaust, pesticides, antibiotics, household paints and carpets, food additives, chemicals in skin care and personal hygiene products, processed foods, GMO, gluten, refined sugar and oils, heavy metals, pharmaceutical drugs….

But what happens to all the toxins that we are subjected to on a daily basis and accumulate in the body over the years?  New chemicals are constantly being introduced into foods and the environment. Where do these toxins go within the body? Are toxins absorbed or eliminated?

The truth is that we have toxicity overload!

Our bodies are unable to process and eliminate this overload of poisons, even through our body’s normal detoxification channels.

So what happens?  We store toxins within our bodies.

Think of it this way. I tell my clients to imagine a little man wearing a hard hat and fluorescent vest standing at his post in your body. He is the supervisor of all that is incoming and exposed to your body.  When food or toxic exposure enters your body or skin, he directs it to go directly to the body part that will help digest it. That is, if, he recognizes it as real food or a natural substance.  If he doesn’t recognize it, he sends it to the fat room, to the joints and bones, the muscles, the bowels, the lymphatic system and the liver.  This way these toxins don’t go directly into the bloodstream and poison the body.  He saves and stores these toxins within the body. He may store these toxins for years! We don’t know if or when, but eventually these stored toxins cause inflammation and disease.  If he stores a lot of these toxins and overloads all the storage areas, then the toxicity clogs and builds up and gets circulated through the body causing unexplained ill feelings and eventual disease. Also this storage of toxins can wreak havoc with your DNA.  We all have tendencies that we were born with to ward off disease, but the interaction with this toxic overload can absolutely change your DNA’s efficiency to fight off disease.

Don’t panic, instead, become fully aware of these daily changes you can make to detoxify your own body:

1. consume filtered water, organic herbal tea and clean plant nutrition with adequate

vitamins and minerals

2. get adequate sleep, (recharge and renew)

3. eliminate synthetic/manmade/GMO foods

4. perform an elimination diet to measure the body’s reaction to certain foods

5. reduce exposure to synthetic grooming and personal hygiene products

6. perform dry skin brushing to remove dead skin cells and stimulate circulation

7. reduce exposure to toxic cleaning supplies

8. reduce exposure to environmental pollutants within the home and workplace.

9. reduce exposure to high levels of stress, (engage in aroma reiki, meditation, yoga, prayer, music, art, read, laugh, love, unplug from social media)

10. reduce radiation exposure

11. include 30 minutes of physical exercise, stretching, yin yoga, pilates

12. indulge in epsom salts detoxifying baths

13. apply therapeutic grade essential oils, (contact me for a daily essential oils protocol)

14. introduce pre and probiotics

Please don’t wait until you get sick and in pain to make these healthy changes. Adopt this new lifestyle and mind-set now. Do it for you and those you love.

Toxicity /// Healing Recipes

Chocolate Nut Butter Truffles

1 cup organic peanut, almond, cashew or hemp butter (creamy or crunchy, unsalted and unsweetened)

6 T coconut sugar

2 T brown rice syrup

pinch sea salt

1 tsp pure vanilla extract (non-alcoholic)

1/3 cup raw cacao nibs (optional)

1 cup grain sweetened chocolate chips

Place nut butter, coconut sugar, rice syrup and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring until the mixture forms a stiff ball, about 3 minutes. Fold in nibs, if using. Form into walnut size balls and arrange on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Melt chocolate chips in a double boiler, stirring until smooth. Spoon chocolate over each nut butter mound and chill until the chocolate sets.

Makes 15-17 delicious truffles

(Peanut butter and chocolate taste better than store bought peanut butter cups, but be careful and always ask who has a peanut intolerance.)

Whether it’s dance lessons, computer projects, art class or yoga, kids these days are busy bees. And while such activities are enriching and fun, experts say that many kids aren’t spending enough time doing something much simpler and every bit as important as structured programming: playing outdoors.

“Finding time for the kids to play outside can be such a challenge for parents,” says Keri Wilmot, a pediatric occupational therapist and an expert contributor to TheGeniusofPlay.org. “As a parent I worry about ‘stranger danger’ or whether my kids will be able to navigate social issues on their own. Without spontaneity, playtime has lost some of it’s fun.”

Outdoor play is necessary for healthy child development, according to The Genius of Play. The initiative, whose mission is to raise awareness about the importance of play and help parents make play a critical part of raising their kids, is sharing five benefits of unstructured outdoor playtime:

• Physical Development: Research has shown that physically active kids tend to be leaner and healthier, while an inactive childhood can lead to a sedentary (and likely unhealthy) lifestyle in adulthood. Furthermore, physical play builds gross and fine motor skills necessary for success in school and beyond. Hanging from the monkey bars, for instance, helps kids develop the hand muscles needed to grip a pencil.

• Risk-Taking: Through outdoor play, children are given the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and try new things. While taking risks won’t always lead to success on the first try, moments like a first bike ride without training wheels, or the first trip down the big slide in the playground, are critical for building the con-

fidence and resilience needed to pursue a future career, start a business, or handle life’s many challenges.

• Social Skills: Childhood games played outdoors can help build social skills and teach kids to follow directions. From games as simple as tag, to those with more complicated rules, like “Kick the Can,” “Capture the Flag,” and sports like soccer and basketball, communication, teamwork and other important social skills are developed during outdoor play.

• Problem Solving: Children’s imaginations are often stimulated by the world around them. Being outside widens their horizons and can encourage kids to tap into their creativity in order to come up with solutions to challenges, such as learning how to build a sandcastle or figuring out how to climb up a jungle gym.

• Reducing Stress: So much outdoor play involves physical activity, thrilling moments and a sense of freedom, all of which can boost endorphins, helping to lower stress levels and reduce anxiety and depression. Interestingly, simply touching dirt when creating mud pies or digging for worms can be beneficial. According to a Bristol University study, certain types of “friendly” bacteria in soil have been found to activate the group of neurons that produce serotonin, which contributes to a feeling of well-being and happiness. So, don’t be afraid to let your kids get a bit dirty out there!

Playtime is essential for children. To promote health, happiness and confidence, be sure some of it is spent outdoors.

All human emotions can be traced back to a particular event. The better we understand what’s going on around us, the better we’ll understand the conflicts that are going on within us.

Journals support our memory; they clarify trends in our behaviors and emotions, and assist us in making better decisions to improve our lives. My journaling was always a struggle, until I learned this system from renowned personal development author and speaker Jim Rohn. His system answered all the questions I had on the matter. I hope they answer some of your questions.

Why should we journal?

There’s something magical about writing a problem down. You start to discover ways to resolve it. When we write things down, we tend to become more factual about the situation we’re describing and more realistic. Then as we reread what we have written, we tend to see things as they really are, instead of the way we think they are.

Journaling is also one of the best ways to develop more effective communication skills. As you become better at saying what you really want and how you really feel to yourself, you will be able to better express yourself and your feelings to others.

How should we journal?

Start by writing down the issue, and then analyze what you have written. Some points to consider are if your concerns are making the matter seem worse than it is, or if your enthusiasm is making it seem better. Or are you blaming someone else or circumstances for the situation, rather than seeing yourself as the cause?

Or are you expecting circumstances or other people to change in order for your problems to be solved. Remember, things get better, when you get better.

Once you’ve taken a second look at what you’ve written, record all the steps you can take to solve the dilemma. After you’ve taken action, its crucial to record the eventual outcomes. If it worked out well, celebrate. If it didn’t, you want to remember what not to do in the future. Every mistake has a price tag, but the most expensive error is the one not learned and often repeated.

Your Journal: The Most Important Book Ever written.

Include sections within your journal

Towards the back of your journal create a few sections. One for your index, another one for goals, quotes, or interests that you feel warrant a section of their own. The index section is for easy reference. List the highlights of your entry, i.e. financial ideas pages 5, 7, 12, 36, 111 and so forth. That way when you’re looking for information on a specific topic you know where to find it.

What kind of journal is the best to buy?

The best journal is the one that will inspire you to write regularly and is easy to take most everywhere with you. You never know where you’ll be when you have that brilliant idea or see an inspiring quote. Your thoughts, questions and ideas are unique. Store them someplace that feels good to you.

What should we journal about?

Write a brief description of what’s going on in your life, dilemma’s you may be facing, how you would like to see it differently, and what steps you believe you need to take to get there. Or, your first entry could be the reason you bought the journal in the first place. What were you hoping to achieve? Or just capture good ideas of a book, conference, conversation, unique quote, financial, personal development, family, or business ideas.

Review your journals frequently.

Set aside some time each week or month to review your recent entries.

Once a year, take all your journals and read them from cover to cover. What you read will probably make an incredible story of personal growth. Your journal will become a book of self-discovery and self-awareness.

Think of your journal as the ultimate BFF who is always ready to listen and never judges. You don’t have to inhibit yourself, write proper grammar or be politically correct.

Ultimately your journal is just that. Yours. Be flexible, and create your own system if you like. Whatever you decide, keep on journaling. It will take you places you never dreamed of.

Patience Perseverance

Repetition is the art of doing the same thing repeatedly until it is so ingrained in your subconscious mind that it becomes second nature to you without much thought and effort.

There is a reason that every ballet class starts with Pliés and Tendus. These are the primary beginning movements every dancer has to master to be able to learn and advance into any other movement or step in dance training. They are the foundations of dance. The same goes for running your business.

So, how long do you need to do these steps before you can master it?

The Four Steps of Processing Information:

1. Unconscious Incompetence

2. Conscious Incompetence

3. Conscious Competence

4. Unconscious Competence

Unconscious incompetence is when you do not know what you do not know. You do not know what is required to reach your goals. So, you brush up on the skills and education necessary to pursue your desires. Every time you embark on a new endeavor, you first must learn what you need to acquire the required skill.

Bike Example: When you get on a bike for the first time, you are unsure how to peddle and balance simultaneously. At that moment, you realize that you have no clue how to ride a bike and will have to acquire that skill.

Conscious incompetence is when you learn a new skill and are now aware of the effort and time needed to understand and follow the steps to achieve mastery.

Bike Example: You are now getting lessons and practicing riding a bike.

Conscious competence: Now you have learned the steps and need to repeat them repeatedly until you get it right with less effort.

Bike Example: Now you get on the bike and start riding without anyone holding you up. You are doing fine, but you still need to think it through and pay attention to your actions.

Unconscious competence: This is the moment you have worked towards from day one. It has become natural and easy. You glide through the day and perform your daily tasks beautifully.

Bike example: Now you jump on a bike and put no thought to it. You start pedaling without fear or doubt. You are comfortable and at ease. This is the moment of triumph.

As with anything, you become rusty and slow if you don’t practice a skill consistently and diligently.

So What’s The Pointe of Repetition?

Repetition is the art of mastering a skill and becoming not just skillful at it, but you achieve mastery.

So the next time you’re confronted with learning something new, even though it may be tedious and lengthy initially, don’t stop or look for a short, easy way out. Do your due diligence to become the master of your art and an example to others.
