Program Overview
AES is part of a growing network of international schools that offer an enhanced pathway focused on innovation and 21st-century learning outcomes. Students can choose the IDI Diploma or take a series of IDI courses.

Engage with real-world problems through project-based learning Project-based and experiential learning pedagogies are at the heart of IDI Students engage with NGOs and industry leaders as they look for ways to impact their communities and tackle complex problems Realworld learning, showcasing learning beyond the classroom, and leading teams are part of the IDI experience.

Learn through topics of personal interest and passion Students are invested when they have choice and voice in the what, how, and why of learning. Within the scope of the course, IDI students ask questions, explore curiosities, and apply their talents in a variety of ways.
IDI Diploma and IDI Course Options
An IDI Diploma candidate successfully completes IDI Core, IDI Capstone, IDI English, IDI Social Studies, and at least one semester of a design and innovation course. IDI Students can choose IB courses, though they can not do both the IB and IDI Diplomas

Develop 21st Century Skills: Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Communication & Collaboration IDI focuses on developing and assessing key skills that are essential in both college and the future of work: complex problem-solving, exploring perspectives, entrepreneurial mindset, and working with others IDI focuses on developing these key skills alongside traditional academic skills.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) PROGRAM
Program Overview
AES has been authorized to offer the IB Diploma Program since 1982 Students can choose the IB Diploma Program (“the full IB”) or take one or more IB courses We have open enrollment and an extensive course request advisement process to support students and their families in making decisions that suit their individual goals
IB Learner Profile

Variety of Assessments
Each IB course lasts two years and has a variety of assessments that could include orals, exhibitions, revised writing, collaborative projects, explorations, and written exams that are either short answers or essays Multiple-choice exams are rare, only for one exam in a few IB Science subjects. Written exams occur at the end of the two-year course, and each subject except in The Arts has 2-3 exams varying in length

IB Diploma candidates choose three Higher Level (HL) IB courses and three Standard Level (SL) IB courses. The HL choices should be the best fit for their strengths and goals They also take the IB Core/TOK course which includes the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) class and support for their Extended Essay (EE) research paper and their CreativityActivity-Service (CAS) Program. IB Course candidates can choose IB courses at SL and HL, but per AES policy cannot exceed three HL classes IB Course candidates can choose IDI courses A student cannot do both the IB and IDI Diplomas
