A dental implant is an artificial root that is inserted in place of the root of a missing, natural tooth, the characteristics of which are biomechanically designed to integrate into existing anatomical structures.
The Advan implant unites biomechanics and biology to provide a natural solution to restore dentition and oral health. Once the implant is in place, a healing process begins that results in its integration into the bone, also referred to as osseointegration.
The implant forms the foundation for the attachment of single crowns, multiple dental bridges or can even be used as an anchor for a complete set of dental prostheses. Dental implantology treatment involves a number of appointments at the surgery and time for the implant to heal. In what are known as immediate procedures, treatment times may be shortened and no edentulous space will appear following insertion of the implant.
The dentist consults the clinical history of the patient, their oral condition and general health by conducting any necessary examinations.
The dentist surgically inserts one or more implants. Depending on the circumstances, they consider whether to rebuild the tooth immediately or at a later date.
Stitches are generally removed approximately ten days following surgery. Depending on the patient’s medical circumstances, healing times may vary from six weeks to several months.
Once healing is complete, the dentist assesses the most suitable restorative option for the case, which will depend on the anatomical characteristics of the bone bed in which the implant has been inserted. The tooth may be restored on the same day as the surgical procedure (immediate loading) or following a certain period of bone regeneration
Implant treatment does not terminate with the insertion of the prosthesis. Following implant surgery and prosthetic rehabilitation, it is extremely important to observe the hygiene instructions provided by the dentist and to attend all check-ups, which are usually every 6 months.
Bacterial plaque control is crucial in preventing gum infections and bone loss processes, so patients must be informed in advance regarding proper dental care and hygiene procedures. This is the only way to ensure that the implant treatment is effective in the long term.
T his is comparable to the discomfort that follows extraction of a tooth, which can usually be managed using analgesics and/or anti-inflammatory medication (those containing acetylsalicylic acid should be avoided as they may interfere with the blood clotting process). The Advan implant is designed not to create the typical feeling of compression discomfort in the few days following surgery.
Ice packs should be applied at regular intervals to the cheek on the affected side for the first few hours following the surgical procedure. An extra pillow or two should be placed under the head for the first few nights.
Strenuous physical activity or sports in the week following surgery should be avoided.
For the first few days, foods should be liquid and not excessively hot, and chewing on the affected side should be avoided.
It has been observed that the probability of successful implant placement in smokers is significantly lower. This is why we recommend giving up smoking or at the very least refraining from smoking for a few weeks prior to and following surgery.
Normal oral hygiene should be carried out with particular caution on the affected area until the gum has healed.
As implant placement is a surgical procedure, antibiotic treatment is recommended to prevent infection. Seek advice from your dentist.
Contact your dentist before having an MRI scan, as the prosthesis placed onto the implants may contain an internal steel structure.
The Implant Card is a genuine identity card that your dentist will provide you with, which you must carry with you at all times, along with your other personal documents. This ‘passport’ contains the specifications of the implant that your dentist has chosen for you.
In the event you are far from home and are unable to contact your dentist, the implant passport enables you to contact other dentists for treatment. Simply presenting the document is enough to enable any dentist to intervene in an effective manner.
