These special folks, led by our own Meals on Wheels driver, Rayanne Schuler (and husband Bob) asked if they could plant tulip bulbs donated by Home Depot for all of the Meals on Wheels participants. They were delivered the week of Feb. 1st, just before the cold weather made its appearance! This gift (at such a perfect time of year) meant so much as it was met with big smiles, a tear or two, and many phone calls of thanks.
APRIL FOOL’S DAY
Do you have a favorite prank that comes to mind? While I was visiting my daughter and family in California recently I took a drink of my iced tea and thought it tasted off. Later in the day, I noticed what looked like salt all over the counter. The next day I mentioned to my daughter that I needed something different to drink as my tea just wasn’t tasting as good as it used to. She 16

then told me that my 6-year-old granddaughter, Addie plays little tricks like that randomly. She doesn’t wait for April Fool’s Day, or even tells anyone that they have been pranked! Kids!!!
MAY DAY What does May Day mean to you? I remember picking dandelions and putting them in a paper cone, hanging them on the door, and then ringing the doorbell to see my mom come to the door. The May 1st holiday in medieval and modern Europe was for celebrating the return of spring. On May 1, 1886, more than 300,000 workers in 13,000 businesses across the United States walked off their jobs in the first May Day celebration in US history. This demonstration helped in establishing the 8-hour work day. For each of our MOW participants, a special May Day surprise is in the works! Our past Executive Director, Bea Ann Melichar and her lovely daughter have something up their sleeves to bring some special joy this year!
