Adult Resource Alliance’s Meals on Wheels Program (MOW) offers a hot nutritious meal to those over 60 years of age who are homebound. They are delivered by volunteers, Monday through Friday between 10:00 and 12:30. Meals are available on a short-term basis for persons recovering from a hospital stay or surgery until the person is no longer homebound. If a person is able to prepare their own meals or lives with someone who can prepare their meals you may be denied.

Our volunteers don’t let our Montana long and winding roads stop them from delivering meals! Many client’s homes are difficult to get to when icy, winter weather is at its worst. Sometimes, drivers have to park far away and walk through the snow.

It is my job to get the meals to your door each day. Directions are sometimes a challenge. I look at maps and try to picture where and when a driver should turn to find a house. My directions might make perfect sense to me, but many times the driver will correct me when he gets back from a delivery. I have learned to reply, “Just go the way that works best for you and get them delivered.” Our Meals on Wheels routes are sometimes long and winding but they do lead us to YOU!

I sometimes ponder the “ROAD” that I have been on since coming to work for Meals on Wheels. Many

new friends have come into my life, some with an encouraging word, and others with just a knack of giving me a hard time. We have all had so much fun, and also met and shared many challenges in the almost 10 years I have been with this organization.

Some of those drivers who delivered the meals when I first started are now recipients of Meals on Wheels. On days when I look back down that road and ache for the “good ole days,” I never stay there very long because I know that the road ahead of me has and will always be filled with many new volunteers and participants, all bringing fresh, new perspective, friendship and experiences!

Wishing you all a beautiful Spring as you travel the road you are on!

I have learned to live my life one step, one breath, and one moment at a time, but it was a long road. I set out on a journey of love, seeking truth, peace, and understanding. I am still learning.”
