only make fertile soils but minimize the cost of planting rice or vegetables as well because no longer need to buy chemical fertilizer and the most is make us grow in health by consuming organic food. The end of training, ADRA was asking Participant commitment to implement this method. There were about 28 farmers commited to do the method by

planting White, Red and Black Rice in which the seeds provided by ADRA. The objective of implementing rice cultivation SRI method is helping the farmers to get good the texture or quality of soil that results better production of rice which will has a better price in market and will prosper the farmer. Health And Nutrition Education Program – Sangihe (Donor: ADRA Australia) Nutrient Post with Positive Deviance Inquiry (PDI) approach.

Last month, we have reported the activities and benefits of Posyandu (integrated health post), then now is the follow-up of Posyandu activities. After Kader (health worker) can perform well five steps activities in Posyandu, then they can also make reporting and analysis of results of Posyandu activities. One of the important of these activities is to know the number of children who have poor nutri-

tion or malnutrition are seen through the KMS (healthy card) owned by every child who came to the Posyandu. Last February 2010, Herman and Bruce have conducted analysis of child malnutrition (in Yellow line and under Red line), and this result has been shown to Puskesmas and PKK sub district in 22 villages or three sub project area. But for the month of March May, most of Kader in the 22

villages have been able to create their own reports and have information the number of child under five who have a weight loss / malnutrition, and child under five should immediately raise back the weight / nutrition. This project has implemented Nutrient Post in four villages by using Positive Deviance Inquiry (PDI) approach. Not many NGO’s doing this PDI approach.

Activities in the nutrient post.

Children in the nutrient post.

Because in this approach, the contribution from community and mothers of children who have poor nutrition is needed, this is what makes this activity a bit hard to accept, especially if we are explain it in a wrong way, this activity can be failed. But this is become a challenge for us and this is a enjoyable if we can make it. Below are the stages that must be done in starting the Nutrient Post with PDI approach: PDI Training for Kader Posyandu performed for 9-10 days. Conducting the training for 9-10 days for Kader and community leader is not easy work but it must be done. After we see the contents of the training so we share it, because the

first related with Posyandu that’s conducted for 2 days and the second especially PDI conducted for 7 days. Within 7 days of PDI training, the things that are taught are: 1. Posyandu data review during the three months. 2. Focus Group Discussion (FGD) / Guided Discussions towards mothers groups, fathers groups, grandmothers groups and stalls. 3. Community Deliberation Village I. 4. PD family survey and non PD. 5. Community Deliberation Village II. 6. Implementation of KP3G (Behavior Practice Activity and Nutrient Recovery). The activities done in class and also in field practice. Finally Kader and community leaders returned to

their places to prepare for things that have been learned in training and finally KP3G implementation by making Nutrient Post in their village. To create Posyandu data review, Kader can do it by themselves and ADRA Health Officer (Herman and Bruce) only to assist to ensure that they are doing in correct way or not, so too in FGD activity and PD family survey and non PD. But the result is quite good in 3 villages that have been trained. It is somewhat complicated by Kader is at the time of Village Community Deliberation, other than they should do presentation of the findings about Posyandu activities, the number of children of poor

nutrient and result of findings survey, and this is never happened before in their duties as a Kader, they also must be able to convince the community leaders who were invited in the meeting, that in their village have a serious problem with the number of infants who have poor nutrition and should be handle immediately, because this will make present generation become a bad generation. And ADRA still need to accompany them in this area. After community leaders agreed with this issue, they were also asked to contribute and to encourage mothers of children to come to nutrient post and implement KP3G. Semi Permanent Shelter Project - Padang Pariaman (Donor: ADRA Switzerland and Swiss Solidarity) Story of Mrs Yunizar.

I

am Mrs. Yunizar. I live in

Kampung Panas sub-village in Pincuran Sunsang Village. Me and my husband work as farm labor to earn money around 400.000 rupiah per month. We raised 4 children, 3 daughters and 1 son. When the earthquake occurred, I was on the outside 300m of the house taken a bath. I saw a giant white cloud and huge loud sound during the earthquake in my village and until now I still wondering what that was. Luckily there were no casualties in my family, all of my children were playing outside the house and my husband was in the farm when earthquake stroked. After the earthquake we

lived in our relative house, but we thought that we can’t just depend to the family to survive. So, me and my husband decide to go back to our destructed house at all cost. No one helping us since after the earthquake and we never receive any donation, because almost 100% donation not given direct to the beneficiaries. We are very happy since ADRA search the most needed family one by one and help us to overcome this misery. I really thank to this gift because this is what we need for now.
