In the beautiful and salubrious surroundings of Himachal Pradesh exists a world untouched by the maddening crowd of the cities- Baru Sahib.

Known as the divine valley of peace, Baru Sahib was envisaged by the greatest and venerable saint of the present era, Sant Attar Singh ji way back in the early last century. This is the place where children from all parts of the world are nurtured together with value based education coupled with modern scientific spirit making them evolve as pious and strong human beings, from their body, mind and soul.

VISIT OF MR. MAHESH BALAKRISHNAN Mr. Mahesh Balakrishnan, Development Manager (India) from the International Baccalaureate, Singapore office reached Baru Sahib campus on 26th March. The visitor was here on 27th and 28th March interacting with students, staff and the management team. The guest had a complete tour of the entire campus including the IB world school, the CBSE school, the B.Ed College, Nursing College, Eternal University and Gurdwara sahib in the campus.

ESSAY WRITING/POEM RECITATION Grammar, spelling, punctuation, gestures and so on, which are major parts of communication, can also be improved upon when we learn how to use writing as a means of expressing our ideas and messages clearly and directly to our listeners. Prior to the day of Baisakhi , since no celebrations in the wake of the COVID situation, all students of Akal Academy Baru Sahib, PYP Block, were engaged in an essay writing/ poem composition and recitation based on the theme - Baisakhi.

HANDWRITING COMPETITION Studies / Researches show that writing improves memory; students retain learning better when working with new ideas through handwriting instead of typing.

This is because it involves more complex motor and cognitive skills. Good handwriting contributes to reading fluency because it activates visual perception of letters.

Handwriting is a predictor of success in other subjects, because good handwriting has a positive impact on grades. A handwriting competition was held at Akal Academy Baru Sahib (IB World School) for all the students . The best performers were appreciated.

FREE HAND DRAWING Drawing as a whole increases the observatory skills. Freehand drawing is important because it connects our hands to minds. It encourages learning about the designed environment.

Drawing is a way of digesting the environment in its natural sense for a greater outcome. Also, freehand drawing is as close as we can get to a thing without building. Hand-made drawingscanneverbe

machine-like. Yet, it can be accurate enough to record the world. In fact, it records beyond a pure impression. Free hand drawing was organized by the Visual Art Department of Akal Academy IB - PYP Block giving students an opportunity to express their ideas more especially at a time when the pandemic is playing havoc in the country.

DROP EVERYTHING AND READ (DEAR)

DEAR - Drop Everything And Read session was held at Akal Academy IB World School at Baru Sahib in the first week of May giving children exclusive time for pleasure reading where they could read anything of their choice. Teachers read out stories to the little ones who were not able to read by themselves.

MOTHER’S DAY Mother's Day is a celebration honouring the mother of the family or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in a society.The residential students of the IB World School at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib, observed the day by making Greeting Cards for their mothers to show their respect and to express their love for them.

YOGA AND AEROBICS The art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual's mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind Yoga practice and Aerobic exercises were held at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib IB World School as the weekend activity where all the PYP students enthusiastically participated in these health stimulating activities.

ORIGAMI Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture.

In modern usage, the word "origami" is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin.

The PYP students of Akal Academy, Baru Sahib were engaged with “Origami” where they created different shapes and designs using their paper folding techniques.

FUN RACES Outdoor play has also been shown to leave kids with more advanced motor skills than their “indoor” peers, including coordination, balance and agility. Kids who spend more time playing outside are less likely to be obese because they are more active. Outdoor play has also been shown to benefit children with ADHD by giving them an outlet for the activity and energy that often creates issues indoors.

TALENT HUNT A talent hunt show was organised giving opportunity for the newly admitted students to perform in front of their peers and staff.

Students performed Choreography, talent to use musical instruments, role play, magic show etc in order to display their talents. Akal Academy Baru Sahib PYP Wing, special effort is made to tap the talent of the newly admitted students who have natural flair for music, dance, drama, art and craft.

These activities strengthen the intercultural cooperation amongst the students with the view to respect and follow the path of righteousness and humanism.

AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY American Independence Day is observed on July 4 and is also called the Fourth of July. The date marks the annual celebration of nationhood in the United States. The day commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress in 1776. This year marks the 245th anniversary of the freedom of the thirteen American colonies from British colonial rule.

CHOREOGRAPHY BY LITTLE ONES AND SINGING OF THE AMERICAN NATIONAL ANTHEM WERE HELD

In order to foster international mindedness in the minds of the PYP students of the IB World School, Akal Academy Baru Sahib observed the day with a special assembly where a brief talk on the importance of the day, choreography by little ones and singing of the American National Anthem were held.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY World Environment Day is observed every year on 5th June across the globe. The day is considered to be one of the most remarkable ones for environmental action and to create awareness among people.

Joining the rest of the world, students of the IB World School at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib were engaged in various activities like plantation drive, slogan writing, essay writing etc to celebrate the day.

GURU ARJAN DEV JI’S SHAHEEDI DIVAS The fifth guru of the Sikh religion, Guru Arjan Devji, was the first of the two Gurus martyred in the Sikh faith. Guru Arjan Dev ji , Born in 1563, completed the construction of Shri Harmandir Sahib (The Golden Temple) in Amritsar and also compiled Sri Adi Granth, the religious scripture of the Sikhs encompassing spiritual poetry and musical ragas. It was installed at Sri Harmandir Sahib. The day was observed by the staff and students at Akal Academy PYP block by organising a special assembly, maintaining COVID protocol , to commemorate the martyrdom of Guruji

Purpose of this day is to spread the message of Universal Brotherhood and permanent peace.
