We’re surrounded by arts in the Adirondack Park. Other than the obvious art displayed by Mother Nature every day — the beautiful mountains and valleys, nooks and crannies, lakes, rivers and babbling brooks — man-made art comes from all corners of our small mountain communities.
Yet it’s Mother Nature who is our main muse, and she uses all the senses to get our creative juices flowing. Artists take her soundtrack of bird songs, canvas of forested landscapes, fragrance of balsam, taste of maple and feeling of cool river water to create art.
We see it in the clay ceramics made by Peter Shrope, the plein air paintings made in Saranac Lake every August and the pressed-flower designs from Wilmington’s Alison Haas. We feel it in lakeside parks during a summer concert or through a musical performed at Saranac Lake’s Pendragon Theater. We hear it in songs such as Roy Hurd’s “Adirondack Blue,” Dan Berggren’s “Mountain Air” and Peggy Lynn’s “April.”
Much of that art comes from a moment — or moments — inspired by Mother Nature, our everyday lives, our friends and families, or other artists. All it takes is that moment of mindfulness to spark a creation. We may spend a few minutes, several months or even a decade to finish a piece of work. But once it’s done, that art begins its own work — to inspire others, to communicate a feeling or idea, to teach or to let our imaginations run wild.
Art, however, isn’t just music and painting, photography and dance, or theater and film. Art in the Adirondacks comes in many forms: Architecture, Ceramics, Sculpture, Jewelry, Crafts, Furniture, Mural Painting, Boat Building, Fly Tying, Fiber Arts, Culinary Arts, Literary Arts, Cartoons, Calligraphy, Wood Carving, Woodworking, Fashion, Map Making, Graphic Design, Comedy, Magic, Mime, etc.
Art is all around us because art is inside every one of us. We just need to let it out. Inspiration comes in all forms and at all times of the day. Find a medium, express yourself, share it with others and see what happens.
We encourage you to take an artistic journey through the Adirondacks this year by exploring your own creations or those of your friends and neighbors. And let your journey begin here — with Arts in the Park.

BOLTON LANDING — The Sembrich, a premiere museum on the shores of Lake George, has announced its 2025 exhibition and summer festival events.
The Sembrich’s 2025 Summer Exhibition “Viva Verdi,” explores Polish soprano Marcella Sembrich’s (1858-1935) starring roles in Giuseppe Verdi’s operas “Rigoletto,” “Ernani,” and “La Traviata.” Artifacts on view include Sembrich’s couture silk gown from “La Traviata,” a white ostrich feather fan gifted by the Rothschild family and the elegant Gorham silver punchbowl presented at her 1909 farewell performance at the Metropolitan Opera.
The museum’s 2025 Summer Festival, “The Gilded Age,” includes over 20 events between June 4 and Aug. 30, and will present programs inspired by late-19th and early-20th century America, the career of Marcella Sembrich and the opulence of the era. Visitors can experience the diverse music that mirrored the culture of the time — in a series of concerts, lectures and films — all performed and presented by today’s finest concert artists and scholars.
“Marcella Sembrich first arrived in America in 1883 for her Metropolitan Opera debut — and made her retirement from opera in 1909. Setting those two dates
as the parameter for our festival, we’ll present a wide array of music from the era that Mark Twain coined as ‘The Gilded Age,’” said Richard Wargo, The Sembrich’s artistic director. “We’ll showcase the opulence and splendor of European-inspired classics and highlight the emergence of American popular song and the rise of Tin Pan Alley. It’s an exciting line-up of events that we look forward to sharing.”
Festival highlights include:
“Gilded Melodies: Music for Saxophone, Voice, and Piano” on June 14. Saxophonist Christopher Brellochs performs works by Donizetti and Mayeur with a guest appearance by soprano Sarah Joy Miller, who appeared in season two of HBO’s “The Gilded Age.”
“Riding the Rails — Studio Talk & Gilded Age Tea” on July 10. From rail strikes to lost jewelry, this studio talk offers an entertaining glimpse into America’s Gilded Age through the events along Marcella Sembrich’s 1909 transcontinental concert tour.
“The Gilded Age: The Hit Series & The Era That Inspired It” on Aug. 6. Entertainment historian John Kenrick shares behind-the-scenes stories and the real-life dramas behind HBO’s acclaimed drama series “The Gilded Age.”
Members of The Philadel-
phia Orchestra will perform a program of chamber music from the Gilded Age, including works by Amy Beach and Antonin
Dvorak on Aug. 17. Tickets and the full-season schedule are available at thesembrich.org/festival.

More than 20 local and regional artists will line Margaret and Brinkerhoff Streets, offering an eclectic mix of visual art including painting, woodworking, pottery, photography, and more. Art lovers and collectors alike will enjoy browsing and connecting with artists in an open-air gallery experience.
The Strand Center for the Arts will activate its front lawn with live art demonstrations throughout the day. Visitors can experience the magic of a pop-up darkroom featuring direct-positive portrait photography, witness a pit-fire clay experience using naturally found clay and watch live oil painting in action. Young attendees will enjoy a dedicated Kids Zone located on Brinkerhoff Street, where Sarah Acors and the Plattsburgh Public Library will lead creative and engaging
art activities for children of all ages. Festival Goers can also enjoy a variety of food and drink options from downtown restaurants and local food trucks. INDIAN LAKE — The Indian Lake Theater announced the return of its Kids are Free Program: movie admission is waived for all kids ages 17 and under when accompanied by an adult. The program was piloted in February and will now be run throughout the rest of the year.
Located in Indian Lake, the mission of the Indian Lake Theater is to offer a gathering space that entertains, engages and enriches the economic and cultural life of the Central Adirondacks. The theater is the only non-profit movie theater and stage located in Hamilton County.
The theater is open yearround, providing a range of movies, live theater, concerts and special events to local residents and visitors. In addition, the theater seeks to support the economic vitality of the Central Adirondacks and expects that the free ticket program will
entice individuals and families to visit Indian Lake and support our neighboring businesses.
“At its heart, our mission is to increase access to the arts and entertainment,” said Indian Lake Theater board president Brian Krzykowski. “Waiving
the cost of admission for kids will help make the movies a more affordable option for families.”
The free admission program applies to all regular movies. Child movie tickets are typically priced at $5 each, while
adults 18 and over are $8. Children must be with at least one paying adult (aged 18 and older).
This program is funded by the generous patrons and donors of the Indian Lake Theater and the Stewart’s Holiday Match program.
This spring, the Indian Lake Theater is open Thursday through Sunday with a new movie each week. All shows will start at 7 p.m. with the exception of the Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Beginning the first week of July through Labor Day, the theater will be open seven days a week, with daily movies Monday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. The full movie and special event schedule, as well as tickets and concessions are available on the Indian Lake Theater website at www.indianlaketheater.org or in person at the theater.
SCHROON LAKE — Seagle Festival celebrates its 110th season in 2025, continuing as the premiere opera and musical theater producing organization in the Adirondack region, as well as the oldest summer vocal training program in the U.S.
Seagle Festival’s four-show mainstage summer season of fully staged operas and musicals will begin with Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance.” This is followed by Bizet’s “Carmen,” sung in French with projected English supertitles, and the second-ever production of “Mayo Buckner” by composer Tom Cipullo, which was premiered at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam.
“Mayo Buckner” is based on the true story of a man by the same name who was committed to a mental institution in the early 20th century. While institutionalized, he learned to play several instruments and had an incredible memory. After testing later in life, it was discovered that Mayo had a very high IQ and he was given the chance to be released from the institution. Since he had learned no social skills, he decided to live out his days in the only home he’d ever really known.
The mainstage summer season will conclude with the rollicking “Anything Goes” by Cole Porter. On Saturday Aug. 2, Seagle Festival will present “Seagle 110, An American Composers Concert” as a celebration of 110 years of featuring American song and opera. Through the
summer and into the school year, Seagle Festival will continue its focus on cultivating new audiences by presenting the children’s opera “Monkey & Francine in the City of Tigers” by composer Kamala Sankaram and librettist David Johnston. Touring the region in the early fall will be a revue of music from the many musicals of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber entitled “Music of the Night.” All the summer and fall productions will feature the 31 extremely talented 2025 Seagle Festival Emerging Artists, an elite group cho-
sen from a field of hundreds of applicants. Alongside the performances, the Emerging Artists will participate in career training to help propel them into their professional careers.

— The Strand Center for the Arts is proud to host Artisan Markets on its campus to showcase the talents of area artisans. Works for sale include pottery, paintings, woodwork, fiber arts, jewelry, baked goods and much more. The 2025 Artisan Market season kicked off in April and occurs once a month through October. The SCA is happy to facilitate this event for the community. Artisan markets at the SCA are free and open to the public to attend; vendors must pay a vendor fee.
Pride Fest and Celebrating Juneteenth are also happening again this year. These events aim to celebrate and uplift marginalized voices while simultaneously entertaining, educating and connecting the community. These events are free and open to the public.
Art exhibitions frequently rotate in The Strand’s free gallery. Each exhibit begins with a free-to-attend opening reception event.
In the theater, there will be
a mix of tribute shows, live theater productions and original acts hitting the stage for a variety of audiences. Some shows include “Big Bang Boom! Rock and Roll for Kids!” and “The Machine performs Pink Floyd.”
As it pertains to classes, The Strand offers Art and MakerSpace classes for youth and adults. There are recurring classes in the clay studio, such as “Try it on the Wheel (ages 5-13),” “Try it on the Wheel for Adults!” and “Wheel 101.”
The Strand also holds laser engraving classes in its MakerSpace; drawing and painting classes in the visual arts studio; and printmaking classes in the printmaking studio.
The Strand will be facilitating art-based Youth Summer Camps again this year during the months of July and August.
For more information on community events, gallery exhibits, class schedules, the full youth summer camp schedule, theater schedule and more, visit strandcenter.org.
INLET — This year, 2025, Inlet will celebrate 49 years of presenting the largest of its two arts and craft shows, aptly titled “Arts in the Park.” The park referred to is Arrowhead Park, former site of the Arrowhead Hotel, one of the grand hotels located on beautiful Fourth Lake in the early-to-middle years of the 20th century in the Central Adirondacks.
Shortly after the town purchased the property and created Arrowhead Park, “Arts in the Park” became a summer fixture in Inlet. Artists and crafters from all over New York state find a beautiful, lakefront site to offer their wares. A sample of what is available for purchase: pottery, quilts, handmade/ hand-embroidered apparel, soaps, jewelry, wall-hangings, wooden items, furniture, photography and so much more.
To be accepted as a vendor in this festival, applicants must provide proof that their offerings are, in fact, created by themselves. As a tribute to the value and success of Inlet’s “Arts in the Park,” sites sell out early. Although the show takes place in July, once March arrives there is seldom any room left. As in past years, the more than 60 spaces are already spoken for.
Each year near the end of
the show, crafters are offered the opportunity to reserve their spot for the following year, and many do just that. However, each year sees new offerings as well. When applicants hear how popular and well attended this show remains year after year, a waiting list grows on the chance that someone will have to cancel, creating a last-minute opening.
In addition to the arts and crafts, the show also features music. From solo musicians to groups, from jazz to pop, the strains of live music is a pleasant accompaniment to the other arts on display. A not-for-profit offers food and beverages under the small pavilion in the park so that attendees needn’t go hungry or thirsty.
What could be more appealing than wandering near Fourth Lake on a beautiful July day, spending the afternoon perusing an assortment of art and handiwork to find the perfect gift for a special person or oneself while the breezes are blowing softly and the sun is shining brightly and music makes the perfect background.
Although the summer festival is the bigger of the two, Inlet’s other craft show is held in September, hence the name “Fall Festival.” Unlike the July show, vendors may offer items that are
not necessarily their handiwork. Again, the sites usually sell out early and attendees are drawn to the park by the glorious fall fo-
liage against the bright blue sky. The fact that they can find some treasure at a reasonable price is an extra delight.
LAKE PLACID — Experience world class art in a beautiful mountain town. Lake Placid Center for the Arts is home to inspiring arts programs and entertainment for all ages, all year round.

WESTPORT — The Depot Theatre in Westport has announced its dynamic, energetic and expanded 2025 professional main stage season lineup, including two plays and two musicals.
Lights go up on the main stage with “First Date,” a musical rom-com in which a casual drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner.
Blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey, and in a delightful and unexpected twist, Casey and Aaron’s inner critics take on a life of their own when other restaurant patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through icebreakers, appetizers and potential conversational land mines. Performances of “First Date” will be June 26 through July 13.
Next up on the stage is “radiant Vermin,” a fast-paced, provocative, pitch-black satire that skewers fantasies of having it all. A young couple is offered an ideal house by a mysterious stranger, prompting the question: How far would any of us go to get our dream home? This thought-provoking comedy teeters on the brink of mayhem while shining a light on the human condition, the haves and have-nots, and the inequities of life. Performances will run from July 17 to Aug. 3.
Beginning Aug. 7, the Depot will produce the Tony Award-nominated musical “Million Dollar Quartet.” The musical is set on Dec. 4, 1956, when an extraordinary twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever.
Featuring an incredible score of rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, R&B and country hits, “Million Dollar Quartet” hit songs include “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “Walk the Line,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Who Do You Love?” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Folsom Prison

Blues,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and more! “Million Dollar Quartet” will run from Aug. 7 to Aug. 24.
The expanded season continues with a special limited run of “The Roommate,” a dark comedy about what it takes to re-route your life — and what happens when the wheels come off.
The play features two women in their mid-50s: Sharon, who is recently divorced and needs a roommate to share her Iowa home, and Robyn, who needs a place to hide and a chance to start over. But as Sharon begins to uncover Robyn’s secrets, they encourage her own deep-seated desire to transform her life completely. “The Roommate” will run for four performances, Aug. 28 through Aug. 31.
The 2025 season was curated by the Depot’s team of artistic directors, Beth Glover and Karen Lewis.
“Our lineup for 2025 is inspired by the
tremendous response to last summer’s exciting, audience-pleasing season,” Glover said. “We’re thrilled to once again offer an emotional, laugh-filled and tune-packed shared experience for our patrons this summer!’
The professional productions are preceded on the main stage by a special Depot Theatre Academy production of “The Drowsy Chaperone,” with four performances by the region’s experienced student artists June 12 through June 14.
The Depot Theatre is a non-profit, professional theatre located in a historic, functioning 1876 train station in Westport, NY, and it is the only theatre in the Adirondacks that operates under an agreement with Actors’ Equity Association.
More details, information about the Depot Theatre Academy youth program, additional events, and news updates can be found online at depottheatre.org.

WESTPORT — Every summer, the sound of music ricochets off the pine walls of small practice cabins at the Meadowmount School of Music. For more than 80 years, the school has been America’s most respected and beloved summer home for rising generations of violinists, violists and cellists.
Since late 2021, Janet Sung has served as Meadowmount’s artistic director and is looking forward to welcoming 190 students from around the world this summer. Tucked away in the Boquet Valley between Elizabethtown and Westport, the campus offers a life-changing summer for musicians eager to hone their craft free of distractions; something that Sung experienced there firsthand at age 10.
“My experiences at Meadowmount, as well as the lifelong mentors and friendships with peers, have helped me develop as an artist and person and continue to influence me today,” Sung said.
The internationally acclaimed violinist, pedagogue and Juilliard alumna believes that the profound beauty of music and the natural environment where Meadowmount is located are closely intertwined. For generations, students
have been drawn to Meadowmount seeking inspiration from both their teachers and the school’s pastoral setting. Against the backdrop of lush green forests and mountains, students spend seven weeks practicing their instruments, learning from faculty and performing in concerts that are free and open to the public.
Meadowmount alumni include some of America’s greatest musicians today: Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Jessie Montgomery and James Ehnes.
“We deeply enjoy partnering with communities around the region to share the music-making that happens at Meadowmount,” Sung said. “Audiences in Essex, Westport, Elizabethtown, Keene Valley and beyond welcome our young musicians and artistic faculty with such warmth and appreciation. We love these ongoing collaborations and look forward to pursuing even more of these partnerships in the future.”
This summer, Sung looks forward to once again hearing the boisterous cheers of students supporting their peers on stage, a sure sign that the magic of Meadowmount is inspiring the next generation of young musicians as they discover their own artistic identity.
VERMONTVILLE — Is it a rainy day or are you a little sore from yesterday’s hike? Come to the Lunar Horizon Studio and experience the art of paper craft. The best part: you do not have to be an artist. Papermaking is enjoyable for all ages.

Cotton pulp is produced by shredding colored old T-shirts into small rags. Catch a scheduled workshop or create your own. Large groups and family’s welcome. Each participant will receive a stack of their very own handmade paper. A lesson on how to transform your paper into paper vessels, journals, postcards is included in each workshop. INDIAN LAKE — Abanakee Studios is proud to be part of the arts community of Indian Lake.
Established in 2000, the studio is excited to celebrate its 25th anniversary this summer with an array of workshops and events.
Abanakee Studios’ artist-in-residence, Sarah Yeoman, is a world-renowned watercolorist whom the studio has worked with since its inception. Her classes have brought together people from all regions of the tristate area who wish to learn how to put brush to paper in amazing ways.
Also on the schedule will be returning basket-making instructor, Barbara Green. Green has been part of the team for many years and is well known for the variation of reed work she has on her resume.
The studio will offer a jewelry class with Jennifer O’Reilly and a birch bark frame-making class with Susan Cacici. A local author’s event on Sunday, July 20 from 11 to 2 p.m. will bring attention to the many talented local
writers in the area.
Abanakee’s Rookery Gallery will be the scene of two shows this season. July will feature artists that work in birch, reed and wood while the August anniversary show will shine the light on 25 artists for 25 years. A reception and celebration of this group will be held on
Sunday, Aug. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Abanakee Studios is open four days a week, Thursdays through Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Thursday, June 27, open through Labor Day. For more information and a full schedule, go to www.abanakeestudios.com.
KEESEVILLE — Set against the backdrop of the Ausable River and the foothills of the Adirondacks, the Keeseville Community Arts Festival is back this summer with two days of color, creativity and community spirit. Held July 18 and 19, this annual celebration of the arts transforms the hamlet of Keeseville into a lively hub for
artists, families and visitors of all ages.
At the heart of the festival is the Plein Air Show and Sale, a signature event hosted by Keeseville-based nonprofit AdkAction. In the days leading up to the festival, 40 talented plein air artists will capture Keeseville’s historic charm — its red barns, waterfalls, bridges and mountain views
— on canvas. These one-ofa-kind works will be unveiled at the Plein Air Opening Reception the evening of Friday, July 18th at the historic Old Stone Mill. Visitors can enjoy wine and cheese while meeting the artists and browsing over 120 original paintings, each inspired by the beauty of this Adirondack community. The show continues Saturday
morning and afternoon, with a light brunch and live classical music planned mid-day.
A portion of the artwork sales benefits AdkAction’s community revitalization work. Saturday’s main festival offers hands-on fun for the whole family. From 10 a.m.

to 2 p.m., the lawn outside the Stone Mill and nearby Ausable Valley Grange will host local artists demonstrating pottery, jewelry making, flower arranging and more. Kids can tie dye a free festival apart in face painting and various other arts activities.
Now in its fifth year, the
Keeseville Community Arts Festival has become a beloved tradition that brings together residents and visitors to celebrate the town’s artistic energy and small-town charm. Organized by AdkAction and supported by dozens of local businesses and volunteers, the festival reflects the power of the arts to build community, inspire creativity and bring people together.
