From the

EDITOR Dear Readers, There is so much beauty in the world, but lately, it's been hard to find. All thanks to Covid, Omicron, and god knows how many more variants are yet to come. Now the fear is gone, and it has become a joke. The Hong Kong government has been on its toes at all times, that the fear of covid is now a more giant killer than the actual infection. I feel pity for the retail and hospitality businesses in HK and the government playing tom & jerry finding the virus-infected people all around HK. Should we just let go of the fear, and everything will be OK? One sneeze, cough, or slight fever could be a new variant, and you could be inside the container in HK. As I commence our desi dopeness (aye!), I thought the best way to embrace a new issue in 2022 would be to create a fresh new logo for A-Desiflava Magazine. It's not been changed since 2011, and now ten years later, we needed a fresh new look. A big thanks to my creative boss Julian Fernando for such beautiful graphics and visuals from so many years. Also, a big Thanks to Mrs. Purviz Shroff and DSC International (formerly known as Delia School of Canada) for supporting the magazine right from its inception. This month's cover story is super exciting and controversial in a women's sense. I got this story idea from my wife, and I couldn't answer, and neither could google. Why do women need to change their last name after marriage? Also, in many cases, women even need to change their first names. Is this justified? Just imagine parents who only got daughters will never see their family name extend after their daughters marry. I am not sure who has the perfect answer for this question, but our expert writer Manju Mishra has expressed her views with the cover story, and some of the leading HK ladies have shared their opinion. In the mood, shares my personal experience about 21 days of quarantine in Hong Kong. Sometimes in life, it does not matter who you are or how much you have, but what matters the most is how flexible and compromising you are with the situation that life brings in front of you. Happiness does not come with money, fame, and luxury. It comes with quality time spent together, an excellent high-speed Internet, good wifi, the latest smartphone with all business and work apps, and a good laptop. An award-winning photographer from Israel is featured in this issue, and a very close friend and business associate of mine, Mr.Amir Chodorov. His photography is something beyond imagination. I bought three artworks from him at first glance, and the photographer definitely has an eye that sees beyond the subject's beauty! With the help of Devina Bannerji from Red Peppers Entertainment, Amir's artworks are available in Hong Kong. You can browse through some of his most beautiful artworks in the article. This issue is a well-done effort from my side, and I'm sure you will appreciate the efforts and give it a good read till the last page. Don't forget to read Aunty MVP, which is back in this issue due to public demand. A big thanks to Mrs.Poonam Mehta; she's one of the most incredible women I've come across in my life. Her blessings and support mean a lot to the magazine and me. Enjoy reading and don't forget to send me your raves and rants.

Sharan Gill interviews Gaurav Pardeshi, a successful entrepreneur and the enigmatic personality behind A-Desiflava who has taken on an innovative venture.

Our Main Pichu Gaurav Ashok Pardeshi (Gary) Engineer by education, Businessman as a professional, and Innovator as a social entrepreneur. As a youngster I did three years with NCC (National Cadet Corps) and SCC (Sea Cadet Corps) in Mumbai. At these early age institutions in India I've learnt self discipline, multitasking and etiquette along with physical and mental training. NCC and SCC were hardcore trainings as they were military and navy influenced, but the learnings were something which are inhibited in me for my lifetime. I want to transfer all my learning to TESTIMONIAL young kids in Hong Kong, but in a very cheerful and playful way.

Backbone of Pichu Neha Pathak An enthusiastic and energetic personality from fashion designing and modelling background. A Gladrags Mrs. India finalist and a regular content creator on social media. Neha is also a trained classical dancer and actor with a very good command on dancing and acting skills.

Bhavya & Jitesh Vora Inspiration of Pichu Aadyansh Pardeshi (Aadi) Aadi is our first go pichu in the process of making. Aadi is 7 years old and is a troublemaker at times but a very well disciplined and well-mannered child in general. Aadi is the main inspiration behind starting Go Pichu.

[Q] So Gary, for our new readers, do tell us about your background and what brought you to this point in your life? I started as a marketing professional in Hong Kong in 2010 but left my job in 2012 to found A-Desiflava magazine along with my wife, Neha Pathak. In 2013, we also started Dabbawalahk, supplying lunch boxes to over 300 Indian professionals working in Hong Kong. A-Desiflava events took off around the same time, and we organized Dandiya, Holi & Cricket events in Hong Kong. Around mid-2014, with the exponential growth of Dabbawalahk, we started our first Mumbai theme-based Indian restaurant and bar in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The businesses were doing very well until the protests and Covid hit Hong Kong. Due to declining retail business in Hong Kong, we had to shut down our restaurant in 2019. In early 2014, while simultaneously running the other businesses, I also started my electronics trading business by supplying laptops to clients in Bolivia, whom I met through my own selfmade informative YouTube video. My experience working as a marketing professional in multinational firms in Hong Kong helped me simultaneously build my electronics trading business alongside others. Now in 2023, our company Adesiflava Private Limited has expanded to handle events, magazines & branded electronics supply chain businesses.

Aarush Vora We are fortunate to have Go Pichu in our community and accessible for our children to enhance their creativity & learning in a fun yet inspiring environment. I am sure Aarush is in safe hands & will Thrive and Excel in the programs that he will attend. Go Pichu is doing an amazing job in instilling creativity & confidence in children in the past. After many strong referrals & positive reviews, we decided to enroll our child here so he could also benefit & enhance his skills further. A Big shout-out to Mr. Gaurav Pardeshi for making these classes super fun yet engaging for kids to focus & learn better. What an amazing place to set a foundation for the love of creativity & helping each child grow to the best of their ability. We are sure your time & efforts will help foster kids passion to another level. Keep motivating & Keep growing!! Thank you.

TESTIMONY [Q] You have already achieved success as an entrepreneur and founder of A-Desiflava magazine, what inspired you to launch Go Pichu?

Payal & Monil Shah “Success isn't about how much money you make; it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” As humans we yearn to make a difference, to leave our mark. And most of us know helping others has a positive impact on our own lives — making us happier, more balanced, and instilling a greater sense of purpose in our daily lives. Many of us, though, are unsure of where to begin. This is where Go Pichu comes in as the perfect platform for children to learn and implement these values on a daily basis. It is a valuable contribution to society, and the efforts of Gaurav and Neha go above and beyond the norm. Every activity is carefully designed and executed to create better individuals who are valuable members of the community. Children are always eager to attend the sessions, and we can see a remarkable improvement in their behavior and skills, whether it be in personal development, public speaking, or even acting. Go Pichu is a commendable effort that is making a positive difference in individuals and the community as a whole. It is a testament to the fact that success is not just about how much money you make, but about how much of a difference you can make in people's lives.

Rian Shah Go Pichu is awesome. I love acting and public speaking classes. I like getting feedback after public speaking class which helps me improve. I love to go to Go Pichu.

My son Aadyansh Pardeshi. He is 8 years old. During my school days, my father signed me up for National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) training in Mumbai. At NCC and SCC, I received training on discipline, respect, personality development, habits, manners, and many other military and naval-based courses. I always wanted to teach my son Aady, all the skills that I had learnt at NCC and SCC. I started training Aady, but he did not seem very interested in the training. I tried again a second time, and again he didn’t show that much of an interest. But one fine day, I tried the same thing again, while he was playing in the park with a few of his friends. This time he responded very well to my training, and his friends as well, all of them were interested in doing more training with me. That day I understood one thing “If I want to train and build up my son, I need to build up and train his friends together with him.” This thought was the founding idea behind Go Pichu.

[Q] That is quite inspirational, could you tell us what age group would benefit from Go Pichu? Go Pichu is for kids from 5 to 12 years of age. At Go Pichu, kids pick up valuable life skills through a training course that involves lectures, presentations, and practical workshops on Good Habits, Manners, Discipline, Leadership, Tolerance, Public Speaking, Dancing, Acting, Football, Kid’s Yoga, Singing and Lawn Tennis.

We encourage and instill team building among those who sign up for the course with group debates on topics, role acting and narration of stories in teams, group selling of used toys, pairing of strong Pichus with weaker Pichus for public speaking sessions, and group singing. This mix of sports and personality development training is not just enjoyable for our young Go Pichus, but will also help in setting them up with the right mindset, character, and tools to face the future and make them successful. To inspire the young Pichus further, we also organize guest speaker sessions, where we have invited

TESTIMONY professionals, authors, doctors, air hostesses, chefs, a former Davis Cup player, a cricketer, and a singer, to talk about their professions and show what our young Pichus can learn from them when they grow up. I do encourage professionals in any sphere to drop me a line if they are interested in sharing their knowledge with our Pichus.

[Q] It is a well-rounded course and holistic in its approach, is there any part or module that is of particular significance? Overall personality development of our Pichus is the utmost significant aspect of Go Pichu. When they are ready to face the world, they need to be aware and equipped to handle everything and anything that is going to come their way. The whole idea is to make them street smart and show them the many doors of life-related to their personality or profession.

[Q] The children have a lot to benefit from this course, do you single handedly put the content together? It is hard but rewarding work. I make it a point to go through at least one audio book on a particular topic of the course every weekend. I also find it useful to go through a lot of videos on YouTube, where I extract more useful bits of information, and make notes of useful pointers on my phone, which I then put together into a course module that will benefit the Pichus. Each module teaches specific skills. Take football for example, it is not just about competing against your opponent. I was a footballer in Mumbai for 6 years, if I am preparing for a football training module, I will watch videos that teach you specific skills like dribbling, shooting the ball, and in short, all the tactics that enable a Pichu to become a good footballer. On the other hand, if it is a course in public speaking, our Pichus will learn about having eye contact, using your tongue properly, making sure your audience is listening, etc. It is hard work, but I enjoy dedicating my time.

Kavita & Deepak Brid Aarav Brid Go Pichu is an exceptional platform for kids, with many activities arranged for them such as Yoga sessions, Football coaching, Public speaking, and more. I met Gary (Gaurav) a few months ago but felt like I had known him for many years. He and his team are putting a lot of effort into each and every kid coming to Go Pichu, I’ve attended a few sessions since the beginning and I’ve seen a lot of improvement in the kids and their confidence. Go Pichu is doing a fantastic job and I wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

Stuti & Yash Walawalkar Riaan Walawalkar Go Pichu is an amazing learning ground for young minds. The best part is the variety of classes that Mr. Gary and Ms. Neha offer and expose the kids to. From Mandarin classes to Tennis lessons from Tennis Asia Academy to Public speaking in front of an audience or Football classes, the classes focus on the overall development of the kids. It's unbelievable that all of this is provided for free to the kids. Kudos to team Go Pichu team for doing such a beautiful community service for the kids in Tung Chung.

TESTIMONY [Q] H ow many sessions have you had thus far, and are there any interesting moments you would like to highlight?

Shreya & Shirish Pednekar GO PICHU is a fantastic platform for kids. My son always returned with a smile on his face after attending the class. I have also attended the class a couple of times along with my kid and the best part was we as a parents get to participate if we are present. The coach, Gaurav, is very generous and good with kids; he always tries to make them feel comfortable. It's not easy to handle different age groups of kids together, but he does it really well. Also, the special coaches that he has arranged to date were very good and educated kids with brief knowledge of their profession. The whole mixed concept of Go Pichu is brilliant and I must say kids love to attend it. Thanks and GO PICHU rocks.

Aaditya Pednekar The Go Pichu classes that I had were amazing. One of the best classes is the Tennis class. The Go Pichu organizer, Mr. Gaurav, also the founder of this magazine A-Desiflava has sent us the best Tennis Coaches in Hong Kong. There are many other classes such as Football and Drama. These amazing classes are exclusively available in Go Pichu. Go Pichu also teaches us many skills in life such as discipline and confidence. I wish every child in the world could attend Go Pichu classes.

I started Go Pichu with its first session on July 30, 2022, and I have not missed a single Saturday or Sunday since. Sometimes, I even make it to both Saturday and Sunday, back to back. You can literally count every Saturday and Sunday starting from July 2022 until today, and there will definitely have been a session of Go Pichu.

I just told them, before they go out on the stage, exhale 3 times really fast, and then with your right hand and fist, hit on your chest softly and say “I’ve got this”.

There have been many interesting moments, let me share a few. A group of around 25 Pichus were trained for a fashion show and they had to perform in front of an audience of over 500 at our Navratri Utsav 2022 event in Wan Chai, Southorn stadium. The Pichus were trained for over a month and it was a mix of all age groups of Pichus. They were all very nervous on the final event day. I just told them, before they go out on the stage, exhale 3 times really fast, and then with your right hand and fist, hit on your chest softly and say “I’ve got this”. It was a beautiful moment for me to see my Pichus doing this before they entered the main performing area. They all performed extremely well. Another interesting moment was when I made all the Pichus bring their old toys from home, and in the first session, they were taught how to label and price their toys. Here they learned how to value good and bad and how much someone would pay for it. They were then made to do mock-up selling sessions during our training. On the final day, all the Pichus were asked to stand on the streets of Tung Chung in groups and

sell their old toys. I felt so content when I saw all of them effectively persuade and convince people walking by to buy their old toys for their kids. They did extremely well and one older Chinese guy even paid HK$100 for a HK$10 priced toy, because he was overwhelmed with the efforts of that group of Pichus. It was also interesting to see the clever questions asked to our guest speaker one day, an air hostess stewardess from Cathay Pacific. The questions our young Pichus put forward were so logically correct that our lovely guest that day was caught off guard trying to give them correct answers.

TESTIMONY [Q] I s there a message that you would like to send out to our readers, in particular parents of young children?

I would like parents to remember, “Sometimes we are so concerned about giving our children what we never had while growing up, we neglect to give them what we did have growing up…” James Thomson, reading a book by Brendon Burchard.

We have all been there and done that, now forget about what you want to do on your weekends with your friends. Give time to your child, because in this age of technology and electronics, it is very important that we give our kids the real taste of life to make them stronger, wiser, and smarter. I always keep sharing my thoughts and quotes from motivational books on Audibles. One recent quote that I shared in our Go Pichu Tung Chung group, is something I would like parents to remember, “Sometimes we are so concerned about giving our children what we never had while growing up, we neglect to give them what we did have growing up…” James Thomson, reading a book by Brendon Burchard. I would also like to thank all the Go Pichu parents in Tung Chung who keep sending their Pichus regularly for all the classes. We now have 70 Pichus in Tung Chung and many more keep joining every week. I would like to also to give a very big thanks to Purviz R. Shroff, MH, and the Late Rusy M. Shroff, BBS, MBE for supporting and sponsoring this non-profit project of ours.

Sweta & Saurabh Surana Preksha Surana Go Pichu is the best platform for showcasing your talent and learning new skills for your daily life. After her Go Pichu lessons, we saw significant improvements in our daughter Preksha. She is more confident than before and she loves to learn from different teachers and perform different activities. She enjoys attending classes like drama, sports, lawn tennis, and football. Preksha has always been a well-behaved child at home, but I can see more positive changes in her, such as making her own bed and reciting morning prayer. We are not sure what she will do in the future because she is so young, but she is showing an interest in a variety of activities that she did not previously. I have told a lot of my friends about Go Pichu and they loved the class when they attended the sessions by Mr. Gaurav. Go Pichu is the best platform for kids to build up more confidence in a variety of areas.

Anyone is welcome to contact me directly if you would like to be part of this great cause. I do encourage more corporate sponsors to get involved as part of your corporate social responsibility, there is little that is more rewarding than investing in our young Pichus.

A-Desiflava talks to

Monika Jain A HK mum from India who faced head on one of life’s biggest challenges;

Sharan Gill interviews Monika Jain, a cancer survivor who became the most popular yoga teacher in Hong Kong vegetarian but tempting food to ensure she got proper nutrition while remaining vegetarian.

[Q]

D o tell us about your background?

I am a practising yoga teacher living in Hong Kong since 2007 with my husband and two daughters. I have two kids who are 15 and 3 years old and exactly one Chinese Zodiac Rotation apart. While the elder one doesn’t leave her room, the younger one doesn’t leave mine:).

[Q]

Were there any challenges adapting to life in HK?

Being a vegetarian, it was not very easy for me to adjust with local cuisines and especially craving for desserts in initial days. When my elder daughter started to go to school here in HK, I took a keen interest in preparing

[Q] C ould you tell us a bit more about how to in interest the younger generation in vegetarian food and nutrition? Being born and brought up in a JAIN (strict vegetarian) family, it came naturally to me and subsequently to my daughters. In fact, I often tell my friends especially in Hong Kong who wonder how someone can be vegetarian especially in a place like HK, that we don’t know what is missing as we never had

meat since our childhood. The challenge for me especially as a mother was to source enough nutrition from a vegetarian diet. Thanks to social media, increased awareness in the society about health benefits of this diet, there are plenty of useful info in the internet on how to extract right amount of protein in a diet. Most of my recipes include lots of tofu, paneer, avocado nuts and leafy vegetables. So my advice to young parents is to be experimental with vegetarian choices and develop the taste while feeling great about your body and lifestyle.

P R O F I L E

www.ad e s i f lava. com

[Q] Can we ask you about the most difficult time in your life? In 2011, I was detected with breast cancer and life literally stalled for us as a family. It was one of the darkest times in my life, and it took me almost a year to recover from this. I found solace in cooking and baking and it helped distract me from negative thoughts. Over time I started my first venture in Hong Kong “M’s Oven”. Could you tell us more about M oven, my first venture in a way in Hong Kong bringing my passion of baking to friends and family then their friends and finally to people looking for eggless cakes and cupcakes. I started enjoying baking and was gaining good traction from clients. Time went by, I was very focused on getting fit and was very regular with working out and yoga practice. It was a time, we as a family started to think about having another child. Once I was certain that chances of a recurrence of cancer is very low, yoga practice helped me get my periods to a normal cycle and after returning from holiday in Japan in 2019, I was pregnant with my second daughter. I attribute this largely to yoga and I decided to make it a part of my life

I took yoga and meditation very seriously and in no time I started to see the benefits, more on mental well being and become an integral part of who `I am today.

forever. Over the past few years, I pursued various Yoga courses and spend lot of time teaching underprivileged kids and adults yoga in community centers. Need more details about the time line for yoga, did you already practice it before the cancer diagnosis, how did the practice change after the diagnosis, ie frequency, type of yoga . Honestly speaking, despite knowing about obvious benefits of yoga, I was never regular with this before my battle with cancer in 201112. Recommended by my doctor and my strong will to see my daughter growing up, I took yoga and meditation very seriously and in no time

I started to see the benefits, more on mental well being and become an integral part of who `I am today. I owe my second baby to my new body courtesy YOGA. [Q]

here have been T many yoga studios mushrooming around HK and a plethora of teachers, how important is to get the right teacher for yoga?

Indeed, there are many and rapidly growing, a great platform to introduce yourself to yoga and its benefits. However, as they say, many of such studios follow a ‘one size fits all' approach unless you take private

one on one lessons. As I see it as a way of life, the approach towards this has to be holistic and not only about the body. It's a more like relationship between teacher and student where you understand their lifestyle, their mental health, their culture, their age, their body and their soul. It’s about the connection and one has to listen to their own self about how they feel about the whole process. Does interacting with the yoga teacher bring

clarity to your thoughts. Unfortunately there is no right or wrong answer for that I am afraid. Please also talk about Asanas followed by the meditation, why is the sequence of asanas followed by meditation so important? It is very important to do some basic warm ups for joint movements before we practice meditation. The first priority in meditation is being comfortable to sit in any meditative posture. If our body is uncomfortable, then it will become a distraction. The second priority is having a neutral spine. This allows prana (the life force energy) to flow freely while we’re in a meditative state. By stretching, twisting & strengthening yoga asanas before meditation prepares our bodies for it. Asana helps clear and settle our mind. While all types of asanas will increase our comfort with meditation, there are a few asanas which will help in meditation by stretching the knees, hips & spine as well as strengthening the core. Sequence: 1. Malasana (garland pose) 2. Cat and Cow pose 3. Supta Baddha Konasana (reclined butterfly pose) 4. Janu Sirsasana (hand to knee pose) 5. Dandasana (staff pose) 6. Setu Bandhasana (bridge pose) 7. Ardha Shalabhasana & Shalabhasana (half or full lotus pose) 8. Marichyasana 9. Supta Matsyendrasana (supine spine twist)

www. ades iflava.co m

[Q]

H ow do you expand your practice of yoga, do you teach it to others?

Now a-days, I take private and group classes mostly in and around Kowloon areas and thoroughly enjoying the new me. I advise a number of my friends and extended family back in India through zoom and take classes. I have just completed online Ayurvedic nutrition course from Arogyam Institute, India. The idea is to provide a holistic approach towards a healthy life for my family, friends and clients. [Q]

hat advice can you W give to young mothers newly arrived in Hong Kong?

Be brave with experimentation. Listen to your body and soul and charter a path for you. As much cliche it sounds HEALTH IS WEALTH, its true and I will go ahead and say that health is the only wealth and nobody can take charge of the same. Young kids are like raw bamboo and you can mold them in any direction. Setting the right example to them about nutrition, balanced diet and moderate level of exercise will go a long long way. Hong Kong is Home `Kong for me.

Young kids are like raw bamboo and you can mold them in any direction.

TUNG CHUNG FOR INDIANS

Lets find out why Tung Chung is a popular choice with Indian families looking for a community feel?

F E A T U R E D

www.ad e s i f lava. com

[Q] How long have you lived here, and why did you choose the area? I've been in TC for 11 years and chose TC for the spacious space of living and the open area surrounding it. [Q] What is the most beautiful thing about your neighborhood? Convenience, green environment, family and children oriented. [Q] When you’re in need of a dose of culture, what do you do? Fly to Mumbai, I wish it was that easy.. So let's see, I love to watch Indian movies from the 80s, and 90s with my family. [Q] Your hands-down favourite joints to hang out are? Hands down my favourite place to hang out is definitely

my house. My wife and I love to host and hang out/ chill with friends and family, and have them over for a few drinks and snacks. Other than that I would not go anywhere else besides Mint and Basil in TC and the recently opened promenade. It's such a beautiful area for families to hang out, listen to music, and play with my two boys while they are also riding their bikes and bonding. It's just amazing. [Q] O ne thing you’d never want to change about this area is? I would never change the open space, the overwhelming feeling of the greenery, and most importantly the various types of parks for children and adults to play their favorite sports, etc...

AARTI & PRAKASH CHOITHRAMANI [Q] How long have you lived here, and why did you choose the area? We've lived in Tung Chung for about 10 years now, and have loved the area ever since we moved. The peace away from the city is what drew us here - with parks, outdoor activities, and scenic views. 10 years later, Tung Chung has become a mini city and the peace still remains. [Q] What is the most beautiful thing about your neighborhood? Definitely the views. Sometimes we'll look out our window and just watch the clouds go past the mountains, it's rare to find that beauty in other parts of Hong Kong.

RAVINA & NICK DASWANI

15

[Q] When you’re in need of a dose of culture, what do you do? We're very grateful that Tung Chung has a great South Asian community. Sometimes we go to

restaurants nearby to have tea and samosa, and we're instantly taken back to our days in India. Our culture is present everywhere, with regular parties and gatherings, which makes it really special. [Q] Your hands-down favourite joints to hang out are? We're big fans of live music and A-Tavola is the perfect place for that on the weekends. We love sitting outside during winter, listening to the live band, and having a great time. [Q] One thing you’d never want to change about this area is? The nature, and our accessibility to it. We love going on walks by the cable cars, quick easy hikes to Mui Wo, views from Scenic Hill, and so much more. Being outside surrounded by greenery is our way of relaxing after a work week, and we would never want to let go of that.

[Q] When you’re in need of a dose of culture, what do you do?

We have spent the last 22 years in Hong Kong, and 12 of those years have been spent living in TC. We love it here because people are nice and we feel safe even during late-night travels.

We celebrate and attend a lot of Indian festivals in Hong Kong like Diwali, Navaratri, Kite Festival and Dussehra etc.

[Q] When you’re in need of a dose of culture, what do you do?

3.5 years. TC has excellent options to connect with the Indian community and nearby Indian groceries shops that immensely help to buy daily essentials.

Socialize with loved ones, invite people for lunch/ Potluck, or step out with friends for camping or chill out at the nearby park.

[Q] What is the most beautiful thing about your neighborhood? Natural beauty surrounded by mountains, plenty of options for physical activities, well connected to mall and MTR, and the most beautiful of all is having the chance to connect with a big Indian community

[Q] Your hands-down favourite joints to hang out are? Woodland in TST and Handi in Tung Chung [Q] One thing you’d never want to change about this area is? Lovely Indian community.

I feel that Caribbean Coast is the most beautiful neighborhood in Tung Chung. I spend a lot of time strolling in the parks, shopping, and socializing with friends who are family. Thankfully I have wonderful neighbors too who are very nice, humble, and caring people.

[Q] Your hands-down favourite joints to hang out are? Hang out with friends at LKF. We also love to spend quality time at home by watching a movie and drinking wine. [Q] One thing you’d never want to change about this area is? It's best the way it is. Would never change a thing about Tung Chung.

[Q] Your hands-down favourite joints to hang out are? Personally, places like LKF, shopping outlets, and Mong Kok are interesting to explore. While, I love Central for its countless dining options, Causeway Bay is hands down my favourite area to visit. It never fails to impress me with the variety of clothing stores,

restaurants, and views it has to offer. [Q] One thing you’d never want to change about this area is? I admire the energy among the people here in Hong Kong and appreciate how modernized the city is while still preserving and highlighting its ancient culture.

RACHEL, MARSHA & BIJOY JACOB [Q] How long have you lived here, and why did you choose the area? I’ve been living here in Hong Kong for about 8 months. I moved here with my family after my parents were offered jobs of better positions. As skeptical as I was before making this move, I’ve come to like and appreciate every thing this country has to offer. [Q] What is the most beautiful thing about your neighborhood? From the neon city lights to the long lines for bubble tea, Hong Kong has proven itself to be very systematic and structured. While the city is known for its energetic and vibrant style of living, Tung Chung in particular portrays a much calmer and homey side of Hong Kong. I’ve resided in Tung Chung right from when I first moved

to Hong Kong. I’ve been fond of Tung Chung as it’s residentially comforting but is also bountiful with its views and activities. [Q] When you’re in need of a dose of culture, what do you do? While Hong Kong is popularly known for its vibrant nightlife, a walk in a promenade in any and all corners of this city are quite underrated. Taking a quick ferry to a village like Cheung Chau to experience ancient Hong Kong and familiarizing with the fishermen culture is a great and affordable way of exploring Hong Kong and getting a dose of its rich culture. In addition, a night out at Lan Kwai Fong is the ideal venture to experience the famous night life here in Hong Kong and socialize with people of different backgrounds.

GAZAL CHANDRA & SUNEET BALWADA [Q] How long have you lived here, and why did you choose the area?

[Q] When you’re in need of a dose of culture, what do you do?

More than 7 years. We chose this area for its vibrant Indian community. It has its own city views yet its so close to the nature. This area has several options for kids extra-curricular activities.

Participate in all the cultural activities organized in this area, relish the memories by looking at photos of past events and feel close to India

[Q] What is the most beautiful thing about your neighborhood? It has a close association with nature. Beautiful parks, overall greenery, waterfront, proximity to airport - all these add up to the beauty of this area

[Q] Your hands-down favourite joints to hang out are? Funky Monkey, Atavola, La Vista [Q] One thing you’d never want to change about this area is? The lively & fresh vibes of this area and the multi-cultural, helping community.

House of God - The Kowloon Hindu Temple

A-Desiflava brings us to one of the most worshiped and religious places in Hong Kong, the Kowloon Hindu Temple Bhavika Darode interviews Vanita Sharma, the calm and peaceful lady who has been in charge of the temple since 2011.

[Q] Could you tell us when the Mandir was established and what was the inspiration behind it? The Mandir was established in 1960 by the late Maharaj Hari Ram Sharma, who served as the motivation and inspiration behind the establishment of the Hindu temple. With idols of Mata Durga, Lord Shiv and Mata Parvati, Lord Laxminarayan, and Lord Jhulelal Ji, Maharaj Hari Ram Sharma began his seva towards the temple and

the Hindu community of Hong Kong. The temple was once his home before being turned into a private temple space. [Q] Who was Late Maharaj Hari Ram Sharma and who took up the responsibilities of the temple in his absence? He was the father-in-law of my sister-in-law (Nanad). He lived with his family, educated his children, and also ran a private temple in the same home while serving our community.

As the years passed, his health started deteriorating and his only last wish was to have his private temple cum home converted into a more spacious and sacred space for the devotees. It was then that the late Maharaj Sunil Sharma who was my brother-in-law (Devar) had come to pay a visit to his sister and the late Maharaj Hari Ram (his sister's fatherin-law) in Hong Kong for a short period, mainly to check on his health. He was an equally talented and devoted Maharaj ji. As late Maharaj Hari Ram’s children were not too inclined towards performing Pandit duties, late Maharaj Sunil Sharma had taken up the responsibilities of the temple in his sister's home. However, he had no idea what fate had in store for him at the time.

Unfortunately, Late Maharaj Hari Ram passed away whilst Late Maharaj Sunil was here in Hong Kong in 1992. Late Maharaj Hari Ram had always thought of expanding the temple space which led to the forming of a trust. In his absence, the late Dada George Harilela became the trustee. He helped in purchasing an adjacent property for the temple’s expansion. They then needed a capable Maharaj to manage the temple's duties,

I began caring for this temple along with my nephews Maharaj Pankaj Sharma and Maharaj Hitesh Bhardwaj in 2011.

so they requested the late Maharaj Sunil Sharma to take over Pandit's duties and assist in the transformation of the home into a beautiful temple. With sheer determination and will, the late Maharaj Sunil agreed to this opportunity and transformed the residence into a temple with the support of the Harilela family, who stepped forward and donated generously to this cause. Late Jack Samtani, one of the trustees, stepped in along with Late Sunil

Maharaj, bought new idols and also contributed in strengthening the relations with the committee. He also contributed towards extensive renovations that were required to convert the home into a temple. Q] How long have you been taking care of this temple? I started caring for this temple only in 2011. The late Maharaj Sunil Sharma was in charge singlehandedly since 1992. Later in the year 2002, my

husband late Maharaj Gresh Sharma joined his brother late Maharaj Sunil Sharma in Hong Kong to serve the temple and the community in Hong Kong. They both worked together to bring people and Sevadharis together in order to form a family. Unfortunately, my brother-inlaw (devar), Late Maharaj Sunil Sharma, passed in 2007, and my husband, Late Maharaj Gresh Sharma, took over the daily operations of this temple thereon. Another tragic loss occurred, and my husband, Late Maharaj Gresh Sharma left us for the heavenly abode in 2011. With a heavy heart and a mountain of responsibilities ahead of me, I began caring for this temple along with my nephews Maharaj Pankaj Sharma and Maharaj Hitesh Bhardwaj in 2011. They are the main Pandits of this temple. I would not have made it this far without their love, care, and assistance.

[Q] Could you please tell me more about Hindu Pandits in Hong Kong?

We do offer puja services through two of our Pandits. We have Maharaj Pankaj Sharma & Maharaj Hitesh Bhardwaj who perform a variety of pujas. They are extremely knowledgeable and qualified in pujas such as Name Ceremony, Satyanarayan Puja, Death Sanskar, Puja Paath, Katha, Graha Shanti,

We also have additional Pandits, such as Pandit Deepak Maharaj ji in Hindu Temple in Happy Valley. He is a really good Pandit Ji who has been there for 5 to 6 years. There had been many before him. At the moment, there is another temple, Vaishali Mata Mandir, where we have Pandit Vishal Maharaj ji, who is also good

and performing well. In Tung Chung, there is a Pandit Manish Maharaj ji who has built a temple in his own home. There is also Pandit Ishwar Maharaj ji. He is not affiliated with any temple, although he does a lot of pujas and other things. There are numerous Brahmins by birth, but the ones who perform rites and Puja Paath, Yagya, and all are known as Karma Kandi Brahmins, whose names are stated above.

[Q] How has the growth and the well-being of temple and its followers been since Hong Kong reopened after Covid? Actually, we received a terrific response even during the Covid period; it was very crowded at the time, but we were still able to handle the increase. Even when there were many restrictions, we were able to hold several festivals. We have always had a good response; it's just that it is vacation time for many Indians, so there's a little less of a crowd. [Q] We have many Indian festivals coming up, how do you plan to celebrate? We plan to celebrate all upcoming festivals like Saavan, Guru Purnima, Adhik Maas, Janmashtami, Ganpati, Raksha Bandhan, and Navratri. We do it with full heart and soul, and in full form. We have Mata Ki Chowki every Tuesday and we have never missed a

single Tuesday until now. The Jyot ignited by Sunil Maharaji in 1992 has been kept alive ever since. We exclusively prepare Prasad in our temple. Devotees contribute to the Langar Prasad. We have never been short of support from our beloved followers. Any devotee who wishes to participate in Langar Prasad may make a monetary donation, and we will assist in the preparation of the Prasad. [Q] C ould you please highlight the support this temple offers to charity organizations in India & Hong Kong and which are those? We ourselves are a charitable trust that is funded by donations pledged by devotees, so we do not contribute to any other charitable organizations as of now. We do contribute to activities like Prasad distribution; if people are

unable to contribute, we do so on their behalf. If there is an event or we want to do certain festivals, the trustees assist us with all requirements as well as government sponsorships. [Q] What are some of the issues faced by the temple from devotees, and what message would you like to give to all the devotees to have everything run smoothly? I only have one piece of advice for devotees: be patient when there is a crowd. Try to comprehend us and our point of view while keeping in mind that we must manage the Puja, timings, and everything else at the same time. The general public must understand our position and the timetables we must adhere to in order to keep the temple running smoothly on a daily basis. For example We visit so many temples in India on a high level, such as Kedarnath and Badrinath, yet we are not even permitted to stand in front

of the idols and pray for a minute. And here we are being taunted, our Pandits are being scolded."Shiv Abhishek is on, why have you stopped the milk offering?" said one devotee. We are questioned, and we are unable to respond to everything because we must manage time. Such remarks are quite damaging. This is especially common during the big pujas done in the mandir by the Pandits on specific days. So, with folded hands, my only request to our beloved devotees is to “Be Patient”. Thank you to Gaurav & Neha for such a wonderful opportunity to connect with our devotees and followers.

Case: Lucy* was employed as a domestic worker. Soon after she was diagnosed with ovarian tumor, Lucy informed her employer. She continued to work while waiting for the surgery. However, she alleged that her employer started to nitpick on her performance during this time. Around six months later and shortly before her surgery, she was dismissed. Lucy alleged the dismissal was on the ground of her disability.

LEGAL PROTECTIONS OF FOREIGN DOMESTIC WORKERS IN HONG KONG

H

ong Kong has a large population of foreign domestic workers (FDWs) working and contributing to the economy. Having an FDW at home allows a significant number of women in Hong Kong to return to work. The International Domestic Workers Day on 16 June is an opportune time for us to remember the contributions made by FDWs, the sacrifices they have had to make to be able to come here, the challenges they face in their workplace and the impact they have on our lives, especially on our children. FDWs are entitled to the same protections and benefits as local employees under the Employees Compensation Ordinance and the Employment Ordinance. The government-mandated Standard Employment Contract provides further protection for FDWs. In addition, they are also covered under the four anti-discrimination laws that are implemented by the Equal Opportunities Commission. Under the Employment Ordinance, FDWs are entitled to: • Payment of wages (monthly wages paid on time) • Rest days, statutory holidays, paid annual leave and other leave entitlements • Maternity protection and paternity leave • Severance payment and Long Service payment

Under the Employees Compensation Ordinance, FDWs are entitled to: • Employees’ compensation insurance • Injuries or death as a result of accidents at work • Occupational safety and health Under the Anti-Discrimination Ordinances, FDWs are protected against: • Sex Discrimination, which includes gender, pregnancy, marital status, breast feeding discrimination and sexual harassment • Disability Discrimination and harassment • Family Status Discrimination • Race Discrimination and racial harassment Let’s look at an example of a complaint of disability discrimination against an FDW received by the Equal Opportunities Commission. The Disability Discrimination Ordinance makes it unlawful to discriminate against someone on the grounds of their disability, which includes chronic or temporary sickness, physical or mental conditions, presumed or confirmed.

Lucy lodged a complaint of disability discrimination with the Equal Opportunities Commission against the employer. The case was settled through fast track conciliation after the employer agreed to give Lucy a monetary payment of about nine-month’s salary. Remarks: It is unlawful under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance to discriminate against an employee by dismissing him/her on the ground of his/her disability. *Not her real name

What can you do as an employer? • Be aware of the anti-discrimination ordinances: ignorance of the law is not an excuse in case of a complaint • Be a mindful employer: create a peaceful work environment for your domestic helper, keep in mind their mental and physical health and have an open communication channel • Follow the law: give your domestic helper a full 24-hour rest day, enough rest time during working days, leave she is entitled to, timely payment of salary and advance notice if there is any change to the discussed arrangements • Be empathetic: do not expect your domestic helper to be perfect, accept mistakes and errors and treat her with empathy • Be considerate towards her dietary/religious practices: understand your domestic helper’s religious and dietary restrictions, if any, and allow her the freedom to practice them • Give privacy: Within the limitations of available space, ensure your domestic helper gets her privacy and feels safe Treat your domestic helper with the respect and consideration that any employee would expect from their employer. The in-house restaurant serves the most amazing coffee and cheesecake absolutely free. So do not miss it. Because the monastery is in a remote location, there aren't many options nearby. So I would suggest that you better carry your own food. A couple of kms away there is a beach and neighboring food joints, so those are the closest restaurants, according to my understanding. What to wear? Since it’s a monastery, respect their culture and tradition and dress appropriately. How much time is needed to visit the monastery? So. You will be given a slot for booking, and once you arrive at the monastery according to your slot, you are free to stay as long as you like. There is so much to do there that I doubt you'll want to leave very soon. :)

THE DAILY DAD BY RYAN HOLIDAY Want to become a super parent? Look no further.

Some excerpts from the book:

This book will help each dad and mom face the daily challenges of raising great kids, and ultimately becoming the best parents they can be through lessons and wisdom from Socrates, Theodore Roosevelt, Bruce Springsteen, Queen Elizabeth II, Marcus Aurelius, Toni Morrison and many more.

ecoming a parent is more than just a biological process – it’s a lifelong commitment to sacrifice, service, and most importantly, love. It’s a challenge to get up every day and put your kids first. You will experience moments of heroic compassion and humiliating failure, sometimes within the same day.” I couldn’t agree more with the author. Today the landscape of everyday things - including parenting - has changed drastically because our children are getting exposed to Social Media, Internet, Mobile, Tabs, and so on. The art of parenting and raising great kids has come a long way from the times of our grandparents - or even for that matter - our parents. However, “parents” have always been the same - worrying about their child's schooling, their grades, their friends circle, and so on. Parents have also questioned, doubted, and wondered if they are doing enough and providing enough for their children. "Your parents did it. You too are doing

And that’s why we often need inspiration, perspective, and practical advice at every stage of our child’s life from the ones who have been there and done it. The author draws on his own experience as a father of two as well as lessons and wisdom from mothers and fathers, heroes and celebrities, ancient philosophy and contemporary figures such as Socrates, Theodore Roosevelt, Bruce Springsteen, Queen Elizabeth II, Marcus Aurelius, Toni Morrison and many more in order to help each dad and mom face the daily challenges of parenting, and ultimately become the best father they can be. Jim Mattis - the former US Secretary of Defence, talks lovingly of a house filled with books, run by parents who encouraged their children not only to read them but to question and interact with them as well. He recalls, “They introduced us to a world of great ideas - not a fearful place, but a place to enjoy. In his book, Travels with Epicurus, the writer Daniel Klein recalls a formative moment: “I remember one long-ago evening, on an overcrowded train to Philadelphia, hearing a young woman moan to her mother, “God, I wish we were there already!” Her white-haired mother replied eloquently, “Darling, never wish away a minute of your life.” The book is divided into 12 chapters, dedicated each for every month of the year - specifically focusing on different aspects of parenting: • January - Teach by Example (the only method that works) • February - Love Unconditionally (the only thing they really want) • March - Put your family first (Work, Family, Scene: Pick 2) • April - Master your emotions (Lessons in patience and self-control) • May - Character is fate (Lessons in right and wrong) • June - Don’t neglect

But trust me, it will be the most rewarding and important thing you’ll ever do. THE BOAT PEOPLE BY SHARON BALA

Our columnist Baljit reviews this poignant story on the plight of refugees, a plight that continues even when they have reached the shores of their safe havens.

A

rusty boat with five hundred Sri Lankan Tamils arrives at the coast of British Columbia. They have survived a perilous journey, impoverished and desperately seeking refuge. Within minutes comes the political rhetoric - there are terrorists amongst them affiliated with the LTTE, and they are a threat onto all Canadian citizens. The refugees are placed in detention centres, children separated from parents. They go through a never-ending legal process to determine their right to stay, and forever facing the possibility of deportation. At the centre of this story is Mahindan, who has escaped from Sri Lanka with his fiveyear old son; running through jungles and across rivers to various safe spots, often times caught between the army and militant groups. Along the way family members perished from disease and violence, but he kept running; doing anything necessary to keep his son safe. Grace is a newly appointed adjudicator; her political friend has placed her in this position to be tough and

uphold national security. At the same time Grace is coping with the revelation of some family history- the injustice inflicted upon her Japanese grandparents and parents during the Second World War. Her ancestors bore the yoke of shame and chose to keep this chapter of their lives hidden. Grace faces the enormity of her decisions over the refugees.

“Don’t you ever worry about letting the wrong person in?” she’d asked Mitchell once. To which he’d replied: I worry about sending the wrong person back.” Priya is a second generation Sri Lankan lawyer, with ambitions in corporate law. She has been roped in to represent the refugees and is initially reluctant. As the cases progress and she connects with the individuals concerned, her perspective changes. A chance conversation with her Uncle reveals his inner conflict and sense of guilt for deeds done during his youth.

‘I shut my eyes and waited until I heard them leave.’

Book Review by While Mahindan spends months in detention, Sellian is placed with a foster family where he learns English, goes to school, plays sports and inches into a new life. Weekly visits with his father are precious gifts; the weight of their situation weighs heavily on his little shoulders.

‘Is it about the future, Sellian asked. He grew still. The word future was totemic, heavy with importance. A word he knew in both languages.’ This writer gives a voice to people caught in a system which questions their history, their hardship and their motives. The frustration and anguish are palpable. It is a sensitive and thought provoking debut novel.

Baljit Nagreh is a GP who dabbles in baking, cooking, gardening, swimming and volunteer work BUT indulges in reading at every opportunity. The books she reads take her to new places and across different times and often fuel interesting discussions. She is a mother of two young men and lives in suburban Selangor, Malaysia with her husband.

Hello, auntie I'm Priya, a single 30 year old from Lohas Park. Up until now, I have devoted my life to my academics and my career, but now that I want to meet the love of my life, I am finding it difficult to connect with the people I adore. Have I established myself as a separate entity and begun to appreciate my own company? What is preventing me or obstructing my thoughts? How do I approach men and keep my ego aside? I'm concerned that I won't find love again. Why am I unable to meet anyone? Dear Priya, You sound career-oriented, that’s very good, being independent is a sign of confidence and it complements your experience. The studies and career you have chosen are in accordance with your interests and goals. Keep it up! Apparently, now you seem to realize it's time to meet the man of your dreams, and making connections is important. First of all, try to understand yourself and the qualities you possess, as well as what kind of partner you want to share your life with and what you wish to offer, and what you wish to receive in return.

At the same time making the right connections is proving difficult and frustrating that’s understandable. You think you are building space for yourself, but as a matter of fact, you are not. It also appears your success is creating a big ego. Therefore, when you happen to meet a person, listen to him attentively and get to know him rather than talking only about yourself. A lifelong relationship is cemented by each other's trust, care, and affection, while a career supports your style of living. You will surely find a good person of your choice who is compatible and caring. Keep your thoughts and beliefs rational. Be open and frank in your communications with the person you prefer. Hold on to positive thoughts. hope for love, pray for love, wish for love. Best wishes.

wedding. I began sleeping in a separate bedroom from the start. I want to save my marriage so I am keeping quiet. As a result of this circumstance, I am in a no-strings-attached relationship with another man. Life is just going on. I'm not sure whether to stay in this dull marriage because my spouse is a decent man or whether I should leave him and start a new life.

exhausted, and I don't want to go out anymore. I don't have a consistent sleep and work schedule, and I don't have time to exercise. How can I live in both worlds and be happy?

Dear Krisha,

Please note your family life is equally important. Make a schedule, allocate your time for catering and inform your clients of your time schedule. Be honest with your family about your needs and feelings. Hope they will understand and cooperate with you and include you in social life.

Intimacy and spousal relationships are natural issues of your marriage, and you have every right to seek them. Your feelings, need for love, and relationship are being deprived. Hence, your marriage is boring to the point of being unacceptable. . Is your husband open to you? Did he explain his reasons? Considering your husband’s good character and your desire to save your marriage, you better encourage him to consult a professional counselor. In any case, if he refuses to seek help, does not care about you, does not love you, or if you no longer wish to live such a life with him, you may decide to separate from him. Before you make a serious decision, it is a good idea to seek marriage counselling. Best wishes

And I don't want to travel without my wife and my 11-year-old daughter because it doesn't feel right in my heart, even though I want to visit new places. Please advise me on how to approach this issue. Dear Nirav, Your top priorities are your wife's career and your daughter's education. I realize that although if your employment visa is sponsored by a company situated in Hong Kong, you can work remotely from anywhere

in the globe as long as you stay in touch with your core team. It appears that you are depriving your family of normal family life simply because you want to fulfill your urge to travel and because you have the flexibility at work. The best option would be to stay put in Hong Kong and work on regular hours. It should not be your objective to take your family on business vacations around the world. Don't let irrational feelings steal your family happiness. If you wish to travel to other places plan a family vacation.

Dear Aunty, I am a school going girl, Sasha (name changed). Recently I have noticed that I am not able to accept my body and I feel distressed in so many ways. I am a brown skinned Indian girl and I have lots of body hair. I see a lot of KPOP videos and these girls look so beautiful. They are so perfect. Why can’t I be like them? My parents help me overcome the negative thoughts by saying that I am beautiful inside and out for them. But as I get older, I am not liking myself much when I look in the mirror. I look around other girls in HK and I feel I am not fair, or attractive as them. I have stopped wearing clothes where my body hair is visible. I eat less as I do not want to look fat. I don’t like going outdoors as I feel my skin will get tanned. Please tell me how I should not think about it and focus on other things. Dear Sasha, There are many people who struggle in a similar manner regardless of their age, color, gender, or status. You're wise enough to realize you don't have to worry so much about how

you look and what others think of you. It will amaze you how powerful self-acceptance can be. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself to improve every day. While you should appreciate others for who they are, you shouldn’t discourage yourself, because they will also find many values in you that they may not find in them. You are blessed to be cared for, loved, and supported by your parents. You will soon realize the wisdom your parents have imparted on you about beauty within. In addition, focus on the positive aspects of yourself such as your personality traits, talents, and skills. Consider looking into your wardrobe, wear decent trendy clothes. If embracing your body hair isn’t an option for you then consider removing by latest laser technique which has advanced significantly over the years so there are plenty of safe options available for removing unwanted body hair. Waxing and shaving remain popular methods but more permanent solutions like laser hair removal are becoming increasingly popular as well. Laser hair removal typically requires six sessions over the course of four to six weeks. Laser hair removal may be worth considering if you’re serious about getting rid of excess body hair once and for all. Best wishes beautiful soul within.

My name is Arvind. I am a retired 64-year-old man who constantly feels neglected by my wife and children. I've worked hard my entire life to provide for them. I am a principled individual who has led a disciplined life as a government employee. While

my children were growing up, I was always strict with them. They listened to what I had to say and respected all of my judgments. I acted in a certain way because I believed they should have a bright future. They must have decent values and etiquette, as well as a good education. They are now all successful people. They don't need me and hardly speak to me. They also live away from me in different cities for work. They hardly call me once a month. They do not take my permission for things that are important. My wife usually takes my children's side. She ignores me like I am a furniture in the house. She does not want to go out with me because she believes I constantly whine. Is this just me or it is natural to feel at this age. I see my other friends who are happy even if their children don’t live with them. Please advise what should I do to ignore them. I never felt like this until I was working and earning. I am growing old and I do not want to live the rest of my life complaining and feeling angry all the time. Dear Arvind, You feel continually ignored, neglected, and avoided by your family, and they never ask your permission. While your other friends are happy, you are not. I am glad you don't want to live a life of complaints and anger that’s a good start. As a father, you provided for your children's needs, disciplined them, and taught them good values that have guided them to where they are today. Your children are without a doubt grateful to you, but they may not know how to express their gratitude. While it is true that you are

suffering from emotional pain, your distress may be caused by insecure feelings, irrational beliefs, and negative thoughts about yourself and others. Share your feelings with your wife and ensure her you will not complain instead look at life positively, recalling your past good days is the best solution, cherish those treasured memories by looking at old photo albums and refresh your old days you will laugh at seeing the changes over the years. Pick up the phone and tell your children how much you miss them and are happy for them wherever they are and bless their future. Children will also feel the same, and there will be healthy communication leading to a renewed bonding. Be busy learning what you're interested in, teaching what you know, and sharing your experiences with others who could benefit. Volunteering to help others is also an option. You will find many people of your age who are energetic, optimistic, and active. You aren't retired, tell yourself. Many people will benefit from you, and you will be a blessing to them. Stay happy and healthy.
