Discover SAcred, a thoughtful exhibition by Zu design that celebrates the connection between South Australian makers and the place they call home. Each piece reflects what inspires their work—from the architectural beauty of Adelaide’s buildings to the natural landscape or deeply personal stories rooted in this land. A tribute to local creativity and craftsmanship, this exhibition invites you to explore what makes South Australia truly sacred.

Established in 1997, Zu design –Jewellery + Objects is a celebrated contemporary jewellery space based in Adelaide’s iconic Gay’s Arcade.

Founded by jewellery designer and maker Jane Bowden, Zu design has long championed South Australian makers, offering a platform for creative expression, collaboration, and craftsmanship.

For over 25 years, Zu has supported a thriving community of jewellers— emerging and established—through curated exhibitions, mentorship, and shared studio space. The gallery has showcased work by more than 300 artists across its history, becoming a cornerstone of Adelaide’s independent design scene.

With a focus on quality, originality, and storytelling, Zu’s exhibitions invite audiences to engage with jewellery not just as ornament, but as art—pieces that reflect place, identity, and process. Jane Bowden’s own practice is rooted in clean design, fine craftsmanship, and a deep respect for material and meaning, values that resonate throughout the Zu collective.

Light painting artist Denis Smith brings his luminous, hand-crafted portraits to OmMade Meet The Maker in Adelaide Arcade as part of this year’s SALA Festival. Marking a creative return of Denis’s light painting practice to Adelaide. The exhibition features portraits of makers from the OmMade collective, captured using the incredible light painting technique — an intensely hands-on process that reflects the care and intentionality of the makers he photographs.

The exhibition explores the transfer of energy — from artist to subject, maker to object, and object to the person who takes it home. Just as the artisans pour love and meaning into their creations, Denis wraps each subject in light, creating images that hold presence, emotion, and warmth.

MAKING LIGHT, sees him return to Adelaide with a luminous portrait series that honours local makers and their craft.

The opening night will be filled with love, light, and laughter. Denis will demonstrate the techniques used in the exhibition, and you will have the opportunity to meet the makers.

Denis is an acclaimed Australian visual artist best known for his captivating work in the medium of light painting. With a background in photography and a deep interest in movement, energy, and emotional expression, Denis has spent over a decade mastering the art of creating long-exposure images using handheld lights and custom tools. His work is both visually striking and profoundly human—each image a blend of technical precision, storytelling, and atmospheric beauty.

Originally from New Zealand and now based in South Australia, Denis left behind a high-pressure corporate career to pursue a more authentic and creative life. That leap of faith continues to shape his practice today. His iconic “Ball of Light” series, which began as a personal exploration of transformation and mindfulness, quickly gained international attention for its innovation and visual poetry.

Denis’s work has been exhibited widely and featured in global media including National Geographic, ABC, and The Advertiser.

Visual artist Tana Lampard presents a hopeful and empowering exhibition of textile and mixed media work. Created using natural pigments, paper, and cloth, her one-of-a-kind wearables and wall pieces are symbols of collective strength, resilience, and possibility.

T’Arts Collective will also feature a rotating “Meet the Artist” window display, showcasing different works each day based on which artist is in-store.

Whether stitched, dyed, painted or printed, her compositions reflect a deep connection to the natural world and a reverence for slow, intentional making.

Tana’s background in both contemporary and traditional craft practices informs her layered, intuitive approach. She creates quietly powerful pieces that invite reflection, grounding, and a sense of shared possibility.

Stephnie Robertson is an Adelaidebased visual artist known for her vibrant large-scale sculptures and installations made entirely from recycled and repurposed plastic. Her practice merges environmental activism with accessible storytelling, inviting audiences to consider sustainability through playful, thought-provoking forms.

Working primarily with soft and singleuse plastics, Stephnie transforms everyday waste into dynamic works of art using heat manipulation and hand-forming techniques. Her installations often take the shape of unexpected creatures or exaggerated forms—turning the ordinary into the extraordinary and sparking curiosity about our relationship with the environment.

Her work challenges viewers to reflect on consumption, waste, and the importance of reimagining materials we too often discard. Through humour, scale, and a sense of wonder, Stephnie uses art as a means to shift perspective and start meaningful conversations.

Presented as part of the SALA Festival, Perspective Pie is a striking large-scale installation featuring a giraffe emerging from the Adelaide Arcade Tea Rooms. Crafted entirely from 100% recycled plastic, the work invites audiences to reimagine the world from a new point of view. The giraffe—typically seen as a lofty, distant creature—is brought down to eye level, encouraging us to reflect on the importance of perspective, sustainability, and our shared responsibility for the environment.

Created by Adelaide-based visual artist Stephnie Robertson, the piece reflects her signature practice of working with recycled soft and single-use plastics, which are manipulated with heat and hand-formed into bold sculptural forms. Stephnie works across mixed media sculpture and comics, with a strong focus on environmental themes and accessible storytelling.

Through playful form and thoughtful intent, Perspective Pie challenges us to see both art and recycling in a different light.
