Why is shopping at a South Australian owned business so important?
South Australian small businesses are more than just places of commercial transaction; they are wonderful, passion-driven enterprises that collectively make our state interesting and resilient. Money going into the cash register in small, local businesses goes back into the economy - not into a corporate profit sheet. By making a conscious effort to buy locally, you are supporting your community, creating meaningful local jobs, promoting diversity, and enabling SA to maintain a unique identity. You’ll get to know your local business owner, and they’ll usually go the extra mile for you in their customer service, and be up for a friendly chat when you visit!

What does ‘supporting local’ mean to you?
To me personally, it means so much! After years of developing my skills within excellent local Adelaide businesses, I’ve now created my own business in Adelaide Arcade. When customers opt to purchase from my business, they enable me to keep using my skills, and in turn, they receive a unique product and next-level service from the business’s creator. From a broader perspective, supporting local creates a more dynamic and fresh local economy for us all.
What is your Christmas pick for this year?
Our hand-made leather slippers! They are made of super-soft leather and velvet and come in a velvet bag - the ultimate gift!

Trueman & Barbara Palmer, T’Art’s Collective How does the support of the local community help you?
The support of the local community is vital to our success as a business. T’Arts Collective is a not-forprofit organisation that supports 34 artists32 from SA, which has had 21 years of continuous trading from the same premises in Adelaide Arcade. We have built strong connections with the local community and specialise in bespoke products. The enthusiastic response from the local community has allowed our artists to expand their practices, knowing that it will be warmly received. The support we have received over the years has allowed us to broaden our offerings from a textile-based collective to a multi-disciplinary group.
