Climb aboard, explorers — it’s time to see Coffin Bay like never before!

I magine the sun at your back and the wind in your sails as you casually cruise along the rugged coastline and the pure white sandy beaches of the Coffin Bay National Park. Perhaps indulge in a cold glass of bubbles and some tasty local seafood while you take in the landscape, the fresh sea breeze, and spot seals, sea lions, dolphins, birdlife and sea creatures along the way. That’s exactly what’s on offer with Sunset Charters Coffin Bay!

This majestical part of the world will take your breath away. Kalo and Emma Sunset (yes, that’s actually their surname!) dreamt of sharing the best of their hometown, beautiful Coffin Bay, so they sold their family yacht, bought a luxury sailing catamaran, and now, they’re living their dream… and quite frankly, ours too!

“We’re completely at home on the ocean, but we know that not everyone feels as comfortable out on the water. We want you to feel you’re in the right hands to enjoy what is truly an exceptional part of the world. And don’t worry if you don’t quite have sea legs… Coffin Bay is significantly sheltered, plus our large catamaran loves the open ocean and takes you on a smooth ride, even on windy days,” Emma says.

Let’s go adventuring! Here’s how…

DOLPHIN SWIM TOUR

The newest way to cruise, the Dolphin Swim Tour will have you at one with nature! “The dolphins love our boat, so we added a net under the front part of the catamaran. You just hop into it while these playful creatures cruise along right next to you. We provide wetsuits, snorkels and even have hot showers on the deck to warm you up afterwards,” Emma says. Running for up to five hours, with breakfast and lunch included, this adventurous tour will leave you buzzing!

OTHER CRUISES

If you’re not keen to splish-splash, there are other options for cruising for up to 12 guests…

Seafood Cruise – Munch on fresh pastries in the morning and a local, seasonal seafood platter for lunch while you cruise into the heart of Coffin Bay. Learn why this place is so special and where your lunch lives before it gets to your plate.

Sunset Cruise – A harbour cruise before you set out along the national park coastline is made even sweeter with an antipasto platter, the best oysters on earth and a licensed bar on the cards.

Private Charter – For special events, create your own itinerary and Coffin Bay is literally your oyster! It’s a knock-out for an intimate wedding, secret proposal, engagement, hen’s do, work event or even to scatter the ashes of a loved one lost.

Set sail for the summer season — September 2022 until June 2023 — there’s plenty of unforgettable memories just waiting to be made.

Your journey

Taking an iconic rail journey is what travel dreams are made of. Being transported in pure comfort from one side of Australia to the other, on the longest stretch of railway in the world, is next level. Crossing desert plains, lush landscapes, goldfields and capital cities, it’s a once in a lifetime experience — and if you can do it more than once, why wouldn’t you?

Imagine being rocked soundly to sleep on board the Indian Pacific, Great Southern or the world famous Ghan? All three trains have specifically curated experiences designed to fully immerse you in the beauty and romance of train travel.

The on and off train experiences help to connect you with the region you’re travelling through — whether it’s via food, wine or guided tours — and all your senses will zing like they never have before.

It’s the trip of a lifetime, so if you get the opportunity, do what we did and jump on board.

Fit for a queen

On board, you can expect nothing less than five-star service. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the stunning art deco Queen Adelaide Restaurant; and the multicourse menu is expertly crafted depending on the region you’re travelling through. In South Australia, you’ll be feasting on fresh local produce and wine — with chefs and farmers working closely together to make sure their food tells the region’s story. When crossing into other states, like Western Australia, Northern Territory or New South Wales, the flavours change again to salute the area.

It’s an all-inclusive experience, which means you can leave your purse at home — it’s like a real life fairytale where cocktails, bubbles and coffee are all taken care of.

IT DOESN’T MATTER WHICH TRAIN YOU FIND YOURSELF ON, JOURNEY BEYOND RAIL KNOWS HOW TO PLAN A SENSATIONAL EXPERIENCE.

Rawlinna

Exceptional excursions

It doesn’t matter which train you find yourself on, Journey Beyond Rail knows how to plan a sensational experience.

On the Indian Pacific, you’ll dine under the stars at Rawlinna Station — the biggest sheep station in the country with a tiny population of three. There’s live music, amazing food and wine flowing the whole time. Feel free to start a dance floor, like we did — guests will be dancing on tables in no time.

On the Great Southern, you might stretch the legs and enjoy a guided tour through the scenic town of Halls Gap in the

Grampians; or set out on the Venus Baths Loop Walk — a relaxed 2.5 kilometre walk with magnificent scenery along the way.

One of the Ghan’s many off-train experiences is a Katherine River cruise, which takes you through Nitmiluk Gorge, home to the Indigenous Jawoyn people. You’ll listen to Dreamtime stories about the creation and significance of the Gorge while taking in awe-inspiring rock formations and sandstone cliffs.

The experiences are all part of your train adventure and you’re taken care of every step of the way.

Oh, the people you meet

Everyone has a story to tell as to why they found themselves on the train with you.

There are lovers soaking up the romance and drama of train travel; there are people who have lost their life partner and have decided to live every day to the fullest with no regrets. There are those who have had an Australian rail holiday on their travel bucket list for their whole lives and have waited for retirement to tick it off. There are mums and daughters, sisters and lifelong besties; and then, there are solo adventurers who have found the beauty in travelling the world alone.

Great Southern Adelaide to Brisbane and vice versa

Next summer season: 02 December 2022 to 20 February 2023

Indian Pacific Sydney to Perth and vice versa (with option to join or disembark in Adelaide) Runs all year round

The Ghan 3 days / 2 nights Adelaide to Darwin and vice versa 2023 season: 05 March to 22 November

The Ghan Expedition 4 days / 3 nights Darwin to Adelaide only 2023 season: 05 April to 28 October

Travelling by train is without a doubt, one of the most glorious travel experiences you can do in Australia. But don’t wait too long to tick it off your holiday hit list — this journey is worth every cent.

You can’t pour from an empty cup, which is why it’s vital to search for different ways to recharge and relax in a way that maximises your inner happiness. It’s different for everyone, but equally important for us all.

Within South Australia, there’s a long list of businesses that help you find peace and wellbeing, so grab a herbal tea, take some deep breaths and put your inner health back at the top of the list.

RELAX AT RAWNSLEY PARK STATION

Sometimes wellness looks like disconnecting from the world. The unique heli-camping experience at Rawnsley Park gives you space with a hint of luxury as you camp under the stars. Jump on board a helicopter and take in the views of Rawnsley Bluff and Wilpena Pound, before landing at your campsite. Then, watch the sun set while your camp is set up for you, before indulging in a camp stove meal at your leisure. Sleep under the stars and then get whisked back to reality the next day, feeling completely refreshed. Oh baby, our souls crave this kind of getaway!

JOURNEY TO JURLIQUE FARM

Did you know that this dreamy skincare brand was created on a farm in the Adelaide Hills? Filled with flowers and sensational scents, Claret Ash Farm is open for public tours, so you can learn about the organic and biodynamic ingredients used in their products. Tour the tranquil farm, and at the end of a day in paradise, pop past the Farm Shop to take home some products to smother all over your beautiful face.

WELLNESS AT WATERVALE HOTEL AND PENOBSCOT FARM

Nourish your body and feed your soul at the Watervale Hotel in the Clare Valley. They source their ingredients from local farms, including Watervale’s very own organic and biodynamic Penobscot Farm, for their Ethical Epicurean Experiences. It takes you back to the flavours that Mother Nature created, and your body will thank you for every bite. Choose from a six course degustation, an à la carte menu or a shared plate feast for groups of six or more — either way, it will be special.

ESCAPE TO ESCA

If you’re someone who needs a few creature comforts to truly unwind, we can’t look past ESCA at Nest & Nature. You’ll find this luxurious off-grid ecoaccommodation on the Fleurieu Peninsula, sitting on top of a hill, with views for days. It’s the perfect spot to take in a sunset, bushwalk and enjoy the simple things in life. The suites are cosy and secluded, and at the end of the day, you can fall into a king bed, or soak yourself silly in the indoor or outdoor bath. You’ll leave feeling reconnected with nature and yourself.

Take the time to make yourself priority ‘numero uno’ while supporting and celebrating local businesses around SA. You deserve it.

Super fine river time

I t blows our minds that the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong region is so close. Set along Australia’s longest stretch of river, it’s bursting with adventure that’s centred around river time — where time doesn’t matter at all. That spells maxo relaxo time, and we’re all about it!

Play a while

On and off the water, here’s a few things to entertain.

Four Knots Murray River Cruises –

For a group of eight or an adventure for 40, this family-owned biz offers naturebased boutique cruises along the Murray, plus gin, beer and grazing tours that showcase local superstar producers.

Mannum – This historic town is the birthplace of the great Aussie paddle steamer and nostalgic river cruising on PW Mayflower and PS Marion. The Mannum Dock Museum steps back in time with some great facts, like the 1956 flood that had people driving their boats along the main street to buy drinks being served from the pub’s balcony!

Murray Bridge Regional Gallery – You may not have guessed, but it’s one of the premier galleries in Australia, with a range of exhibitions from incredible Aboriginal, local and well-known artists

from outside the region. It’s also an exclusive destination for many touring exhibitions and has a stunning gift shop with jewellery, ceramics, glass and textiles.

The Bend – When you feel the need for speed, head to The Bend Motorsport Park! This racing circuit will have the adrenaline pumping, with hot laps, a karting circuit, 4WD adventure park, a rally/off-road track, major spectator events and even accommodation.

Bridges Event Centre – It’s the home of horse racing all year-round, and the largest regional event centre for a cocktail party, sit-down wedding, farm expos, trade shows and more, plus they hold their own events! The brand new facilities offer different rooms, packages and top service, guaranteed.

Eat and drink

We’re suckers for any adventure that involves taste-testing!

Willow Point Wines – This local winery in White Sands is the place to nab some of the best value wines around. They offer three, five or seven glass tastings, plus yummilicious regional platters packed with local cheeses, mushrooms, apricots, chutney and more.

Langhorne Creek Wine Trail –It’s one of the Papa Bears of Australia’s wine regions, with a bunch of wineries that are ripe for enjoyment! Choose from 10 showstopping wineries and cellar doors run by some of the biggest hearts in the biz — head to page 18 for more on their heartwarming (and tongue tingling) Grapes for Good initiative.

Lot 23 Mypolonga – Your tummy will rumble at the abundance of flavour and fun at Lot 23!

It’s an awesome stop to tastetest soups, meals, citrus, olive oil, honey and pomegranate products from Woodlane Orchard; or grab a coffee, a slice of cake and head out to the garden for some games.

Looove Cheese – We sure do! Let your inner mouse out at this holy grail of SA cheeses and antipasto from across the globe. Local lady Tracey loooves helping you create the ultimate cheeseboard or platter with these delectable delights!

Stay a while

With so much on offer, a day trip is possible, but you’ll never regret a sleepover! Plenty of options make it easy to plan a short stay or long, leisurely holiday…

River Shack Rentals – Ochre-coloured cliffs, river red gums and open waterways lined by willow trees set the scene for accommodation options for all styles and budgets. River Shack Rentals covers them all, with over 80 properties on the books. Choose from the vintagestyle river shacks right through to luxury homes sleeping up to 22 — start scrolling, then pack your bags!

Juggle House Experiences – The hostess-with-the-mostest, not only does Kelly have incredible experiences, she hooked us up with two fab places to stay — Reedy Creek Retreat (for their full story, head to page 22); and Riverview House Younghusband, which has four spacious rooms, plenty of facilities and water views on all sides.

Wow Houseboats – A houseboat holiday will be a core memory, regardless of your age, and these water-bound hollyhouses are phenomenal. Page 17 has the full rundown on a trip that will have you saying, “Wowsers”!

Bridgeport Hotel – Just an hour away, this award-winner is popping with delightful food and drink, accommodation, live entertainment and options for functions, conferences and weddings. It’s the ideal family-friendly spot to base yourself for exploring. And did we mention the infinity pool that overlooks the Murray River, or the rooftop bar? Grab us a cocktail and call it a day, thanks!

What do Renmark, Wallaroo and Quorn all have in common? They’ve all been awarded highest honours as winners in the 2022 SA Top Tourism Town Awards!

We’re so thrilled to have visited these towns on our travels… now, it’s your turn to explore them, too!

RENMARK

Just over three hours from Adelaide, in the heart of the Riverland, you'll find one of the most beautiful riverfronts on the Murray! It’s no surprise that Renmark was crowned the SA Top Tourism Town — it’s overflowing with phenomenal scenery, local produce, wineries, distilleries, a rich history, walking trails and is the place of choice for anyone wanting to enjoy all that the river has to offer.

Kayaking, canoeing, waterskiing, wakesurfing, wakeboarding, tubing and kneeboarding are all big hits in Renmark. For those who prefer to sit back and let someone else do all the work, there are options for river cruises and tours, too.

But it’s definitely not all about the water. Renmark is alive with walking tracks, and you can soak in those river views, the vibrant shopping scene, plenty of parks, and delicious dining and craft beverage experiences that proudly show off the regional produce.

After a fun-filled day, you’ll be looking for a place to lay your head — and

you’re spoilt for choice! Renmark has accommodation for every type of traveller, including luxury stays right through to camp sites and affordable parks for your RV. For the more adventurous spirits, there are so many amazing houseboats for hire — who doesn’t want to be gently rocked to sleep, floating on the river?

WALLAROO

Our hearts skipped a beat when we heard that Wallaroo had taken out the Small Tourism Town Award AND the People’s Choice Award! We love visiting this town and every time we do, we meet really lovely people along the way.

Wallaroo is located on the Copper Coast, overlooking the Spencer Gulf, about two hours’ drive from Adelaide. This town is a commercial port, steeped in the history of its copper smelting boom, but we love it for its family-friendly beaches and the good old-fashioned pastime of squidding off the jetty!

When you’re in town, you absolutely must see the Wallaroo Silo Light Show, which is on every night just after sunset in the township. We also love The Bond Store for a sneaky gin or delicious dinner. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, you can’t go past Wallaroo Holiday Park at North Beach. The park has a huge range of accommodation options, including beachfront apartments with the most spectacular views. There are so many activities to keep the kids entertained — they even have a petting zoo and pony rides on the beach!

visitcoppercoast.com.au @visitcoppercoast

QUORN

The inaugural Tiny Tourism Town Award was bestowed upon a tiny town with a big reputation for punching above its weight!

Quorn is located in the heart of the Flinders Ranges, about three-and-a-half hours’ drive from Adelaide. Home of the award-winning Pichi Richi Railway, it’s a great base from which to explore the Flinders Ranges and Outback, including Warren Gorge, which is 21km away. It makes the perfect day trip for a picnic or even some rock climbing if you’re game.

If you’re looking to explore more of the region, you can take the 290km Flinders Ranges Self-Drive Loop. Aptly named, this itinerary is accessible for all types of vehicles, and showcases points of historical significance, as well as some

of the best views of this stunning landscape.

A visit to Quorn is not complete without taking in the award-winning Quorn Silo Light Show, which features illustrated and animated stories about Quorn, and showcases local artwork and attractions. BYO chair, drinks and nibbles or tune in to the radio from your car for a light show you won’t forget!

Congratulations to our SA Top Tourism Town Award winners — we look forward to visiting time and time again!

Home away from home

If you’re an SA local, you’ve probably stayed at BIG4 West Beach Parks and enjoyed all the amazing facilities on offer whilst camping or living it up in one of their on-site cabins. Well, we want you to try something a little different… introducing its sister property, The Retreat at West Beach Parks!

What makes it different?

Just a short drive from the Adelaide CBD, between Glenelg and Henley Beach, The Retreat is a boutique accommodation option on the shores of West Beach, overlooking the pristine sand dunes.

The Retreat gives you room to escape and relax, with lush landscaped gardens,

easy beach access and a calm coastal vibe. It’s the perfect place for some seaside rest with your family and friends, and offers a range of holiday shacks and glamping-style safari tents. You’ll also discover a beautiful resort-style pool, pool-side cabanas, a gym, games room, jumping pillow and amazing on-site facilities. Not to mention, not one but two waterslides and a nature playground, which the kids will go bananas for!

Even with so much to do, it’s got a really peaceful vibe, and when you arrive, you immediately feel like you’re on holiday. You could be anywhere in the world, but you’re still so close to home.

The accommodation

There are eight different types of holiday shacks at The Retreat, with a range of sleeping configurations to suit your family or travel buddies. The shacks are dotted around gorgeous landscaped gardens, and each has unique features. We love them all for different reasons, but our faves are the newest additions — the Sand Dune Shacks and the Safari Tents.

The Sand Dune Shacks

The Safari Tents

If you want to really get back to nature but don’t like the idea of roughing it, the Safari Tents are for you! These unique glamping tents sleep five and are nestled in the landscaped gardens of The Retreat, overlooking the West Beach sand dunes. They offer all the creature comforts of a modern cabin, like airconditioning, a cute kitchenette, comfortable bedding and bathroom… but you’ll notice something missing — a TV. This tiny difference makes a bold statement — this is a place for you to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with family. Oh, and did we mention there’s an outdoor bath on the deck? Heaven!

What’s on the agenda?

You can do as much or as little as you please at The Retreat — the idea is to relax and breathe in the sea air while you enjoy an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends. There’s a great range of facilities, including a tennis court, jumping pillow, playground, barbecues, volleyball and go-kart hire. It’s also just a short stroll away from West Beach Mini Golf, West Beach Adventure and West Beach Parks Golf.

Honestly though, the pool is the place to be! With two fabulous waterslides and comfy sun loungers to stretch out on, it’s such a great feature of The Retreat. The luxe poolside cabanas are the perfect vantage point from which to watch the kids squeal with delight as they whizz down the waterslide for the 106th time! The accommodations are so divine, in the evening you may just want to retreat back to your shack for sundowners and board games on the verandah.

These holiday shacks were added to The Retreat only a couple of years ago. They are bold and sleek in design, but they blend in with the natural coastal environment. Perfect for a family of four, they’re decked out with a modern kitchen and bathroom, an outdoor dining area and an egg chair on the deck — the ideal place to spend a lazy afternoon. westbeachparks.com.au

When you’re planning your next family escape, look no further than The Retreat at West Beach Parks.

Oh, WOW!

Dreaming of a boutique holiday with the wow factor? We’ve found your gal.

Just an hour up the freeway, Wow Houseboats on the Murray River offers two levels of off-land luxury living. Your adventure begins at Riverglen Marina, just a short drive from Murray Bridge, where you’ll step off the grassy riverbank and onto your magnificent houseboat holiday.

On board, up to 12 guests will experience endless extras — it’s all the little things that make your stay so special. There are four bedrooms (all with private balcony decks, split systems and smart TVs), a fully equipped, rear-facing kitchen and dining area, and a home office with the fastest internet you could dream of. This opens out onto a sheltered deck where you can fire up the Weber, rotisserie or pizza stone, and kick back under the outdoor heaters with a wine to take in the magical Murray views from sunrise to sunset.

IT’S THE HOME-AWAYFROM-HOME YOU’VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF.

Upstairs is like no other houseboat we’ve seen — it’s fully enclosed with 360 degree views, so you can control the heating in winter or let the outside flow in during summer. The entire boat has been renovated and filled with brand new top-of-the-line furniture, so you can flop and drop into the eleven seater lounge suite, which also features recliners and two fold-out beds. The second-level deck is home to an eight-seater heated spa and outdoor entertaining area with a TV and kitchenette — all that’s left to do is set the mood with the colour-changing ‘Wow Factor’ LED lights that sparkle as they reflect on the river.

Passionate owners Kate and Todd want their guests to expect the very best. “All you need to bring is your clothes, food and drinks, and we have absolutely everything else on board — we’ve tried to think of all those extra things, so you don’t have to!” says Kate, while adding that they’re dog-friendly, so your four-paw bestie doesn’t have to miss out.

It’s the home-away-from-home you’ve always dreamed of — with some pretty speccy extras available for good measure, including experience tours, one-way

bookings, outdoor sports and fitness equipment, campfire gear and even heated deck chairs, so you can enjoy the million-star experience on the riverbank.

It’s the perfect way to connect with your friends and family on a truly memorable holiday that will leave them saying, “Wow, oh wow!”

There’s never been a better time to visit Langhorne Creek.

The power of collaboration was a force to be reckoned with when six Langhorne Creek wineries came together to support their beloved neighbour — Monarto Safari Park.

Kimbolton Wines’ girl boss and deadset legend, Nicole Clark, has frequented the safari park countless times, and her passion to help the animals has never waivered. Kimbolton Wines — together with Bleasdale Vineyards, Bremerton Wines, Lake Breeze Wines, The Winehouse, and Vineyard Road Wines — have created a unique mix of vinos, with part proceeds supporting Zoos SA’s conservation mission.

More than 70 percent of the species at Monarto Safari Park are threatened with extinction in the wild! Your support keeps the fight going to save them. Grapes For Good not only gives you another reason to head 50 minutes up the freeway to Langhorne Creek, it also gives you an itinerary and six animalthemed wines to collect.

Lake Breeze Wines: The Bongo

With less than 100 bongos left in the wild, Lake Breeze Wines chose this cutie patootie as the face of their Bernoota Shiraz Cabernet blend. “Blackberry, plum and a hint of choc mint, the Bernoota is our hero wine because it encompasses those sweet trademark Langhorne Creek flavours,” says owner Robyn.

Lake Breeze ticks all the prerequisites for a superb winery, with gorgeous vineyard views, a fine dining restaurant, a welcoming cellar door, cosy fireplaces, stunning Tuscan-style outdoor seating and a new event space that will blow your socks off. It’s where to take your interstate friends to really show off SA.

Bleasdale Vineyards: The Plains Zebra

With numbers decreasing in the wild, the Plains Zebras are facing a troubled future. Langhorne Creek’s oldest vineyard, spanning over 170 years, is proudly helping to save them from extinction.

But what about the wine? “Our Mulberry Tree Cabernet Sauvignon (which was named after the century-old mulberry tree on our vineyard), has aromas of mixed berries, dark chocolate and violets,” says Wine Club Manager Mardi.

While grabbing your bottle of Cab Sav, we suggest going back to where it all began for this award-winning winery in 1850, with a behind the scenes tour. Soak up the stories, then wash it down with a wine tasting before heading off to the next winery. bleasdale.com.au

The Winehouse: The African Painted Dog

The Winehouse is supporting one of the most endangered mammals on earth — The African Painted Dog — with one of their most popular drops, the Gipsie Jack Dolcetto Rosé.

“Lifted aromatics of rose oil and florals, with hints of handcrafted boiled lollies and strawberries and cream — this drop is interesting, just like The African Painted Dog,” says Cellar Door Manager Kate.

Gipsie Jack is best served with mates by your side, and that’s perfect because there’s plenty of room at The Winehouse! With a barn-style restaurant, the space is light-filled and super family-friendly, overlooking a gorgeous lawn area and vineyard. It’s the kind of cellar door where you can settle in for the arvo with a cheeseboard, lunch and one of their craft beer flights. thewinehouse.com.au @the_winehouse_lc

Kimbolton Vineyards: The Giraffe

Fiano and giraffes — the perfect blend! “We chose an ancient Italian wine grape variety that grows perfectly here in Langhorne Creek, and we paired it with the gentle giant of the savannah — the giraffe,” Nicole says.

There are less than 70,000 estimated wild giraffes in Africa right now, which means they’re at risk of extinction. By adding this Fiano to your collection, you’re helping Monarto Safari Park continue their conservation efforts.

As fresh as the feeling you get when you step inside Kimbolton Wines, Fiano is crisp and textural with lovely acidity, and their cellar door is an Instagrammer’s dream, with a rooftop overlooking vines for days, a grassy garden made for picnics and a light-filled dining area. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, they have your kids sorted, too. The Kimbolton Kids’ Flight is exactly what the parental gods ordered, with tastings of Bickford’s cordials paired with local cheese, chocolate and sausage — they’ll have the time of their lives, and you will, too!

Bremerton Wines: The Ring-Tailed Lemur

These sisters are doing it for themselves… and for the Ring Tailed Lemur who is in deep trouble in the wild. Bremerton Wines owners Lucy and Bec are passionate about wine and collaboration. “We live and breathe Langhorne Creek, so to team up with five other wineries to help a greater cause was easy for us.”

Representing the Ring Tailed Lemur is Bremerton’s Mollie & Merle Verdelho. “We chose to make a fresh, vibrant style of wine to express the pure varietal characters of our region. Using only free-run juice results in a clean, focused Verdelho with lifted perfumed citrus aromas,” says Lucy.

If you haven’t visited Bremerton Wines in a while, a lot has changed. Their massive cellar door renovation has seamlessly combined the original cellar door with the new, creating loads more space to enjoy their delicious pizzas, pies and wines. Always thinking, ‘What’s next?’, the sisters are also building a distillery on site to meet the demands of their new baby, Willson Gin. bremerton.com.au

@bremertonwines

Vineyard Road Wines: The Meerkat

Like a full-flavoured Shiraz, the lovable meerkat is personality plus, making them the perfect match. “Supporting the meerkat was a no-brainer for us — they’re social and a little bit cheeky, just like our team!” says Cellar Door Manager Karen.

Vineyard Road’s signature Langhorne Creek Shiraz is packed with forest fruits. As well as an on-site choccy wall featuring Fleurieu Chocolate Company, they have an entire room dedicated to Vasse Virgin skincare — so between wine flights and piping hot flammekueche, you can peruse this natural skincare range. vineyardroad.com.au @vineyard_road

Now you’ve got the gist of this unique Langhorne Creek tour, set a date and start collecting. As Nicole says: “Grapes for Good is proof that wine can be a force for good. Every drop can go a little further and make a real difference!”

Cherishing our planet is everyone’s responsibility — so why not go green when exploring SA.

We adore getting out into our natural surroundings and the incredible beauty that SA has to offer — but, like many others out there, our mission is to always leave our great state exactly as we found it.

As education in sustainable living grows and more people make the choice to go green, it’s exciting to see the same love and respect for Mother Nature reflected in local businesses around South Australia. So, when you’re choosing your next adventure, go eco!

UNICO ZELO

From the founders of Applewood Distillery comes a new sustainable wine label that we just know you’ll love. Unico Zelo is making wine the true blue way, celebrating everything that Australian soil has to offer in the most eco-friendly way possible. The Unico Zelo team has earned their stripes as a certified B Corporation, which means they’re being held to the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Now they’re proudly creating accessible wines for the next generation to adore, while also helping to pave the way for other winemakers to up the ante when it comes to sustainable horticulture. Go, you good things!

TOPIARY

Talk about local! Located in Tea Tree Gully, this beauty prides itself on being one of SA’s most unique dining experiences — and really, their ethos says it all. “Topiary is run in a similar way to the households of our ancestors 100 years ago. We only source locally, make everything from scratch, work with whole carcasses and waste nothing. We want to make the most of our surroundings without harming the environment,” says Kane Pollard, Creative Director. They’re open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and even have a full plant-based menu that celebrates one vegetable at a time in all its glory.

HANSON BAY WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

EYRE.WAY

It doesn’t get much better than an EYRE.WAY getaway. These eco-friendly little homes, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, give visitors a chance to explore the untouched areas of the gorgeous Eyre Peninsula region. These beauties are architecturally designed and crafted in the local area, and our planet is front of mind every step of the way. You can choose between Yambara and Maldhi, (which both sleep two adults and two children), to get off-grid and start exploring the natural beauty while leaving minimal footprints behind.

We’re spoiled with sustainable choices here in SA, so making the decision to go green when you’re up for a new experience is easy-peasy lemon squeezy!

We’re so lucky that so many native animals, birds and plants all still call Australia home — largely because of some incredible conservation work by places like Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary on Kangaroo Island. For the last 25 years, this privately-owned conservancy has worked hard to keep Australian wildlife flourishing. After a devastating few years with bushfires and the pandemic, the sanctuary has flung open its doors once again, inviting visitors from far and wide to support the work they are doing to keep their treasured animals and 190 species of native plant life flourishing. southaustralia.com

Glamp it up

Nature and luxury don’t always go hand in hand — but that’s just what makes Reedy Creek Retreat so dreamy!

The healing power of nature is undeniable, and in a fast-paced world, having the opportunity to slow down is priceless. Reedy Creek Retreat in Mannum combines these two things to perfection — and a stay here will have you feeling refreshed from top to toe.

The luxury glamping accommodation overlooking the Murray River is set on a stunning private property owned by local couple, Louise and Rufus Scheffers. “We want people to come and escape the busyness of life — just to stop, breathe and be happy. After years of working hard, this little piece of paradise has been our saviour, and we’re so excited to share it with others,” Louise says.

There are three glamping tents on offer, all with river views and some seriously generous provisions. Louise and Rufus are proud of their small footprint

on the environment — these babies are eco-friendly, run through off-grid solar with back-up batteries — but that doesn’t mean any luxuries have been compromised, no-siree, Bob!

The big mama of the tents, Sunflower is perfect for a family getaway! It has a kitchenette and living area that open up onto a deck overlooking the water, a queen-sized bed in one bedroom, and an offset room with beds for two kiddos (or friends). It has a generous bathroom and the whole thing is disability friendly.

REEDY CREEK BBQ BOATS

Their little sister biz, Reedy Creek BBQ Boats, really lets you max out a river stay! Launching from Mannum Waters Marina, two large pontoon boats comfortably fit 10 people each and are fully fenced, so they’re safe for little ones. You don’t even need a boat licence to take one for a spin, just a driver’s licence and the drive to have a good time!

For a more romantic vibe, Haven and Burrow are both open plan and made with couples in mind. You can be the master of the tongs with your own barbecue hut, complete with an inset kitchen, a Weber Q and fire pits for the winter.

Nothing has been missed when it comes to making your stay next level — top quality linen, fluffy bath towels and robes, an espresso coffee machine, smart TV, bluetooth speakers, wi-fi, reversecycle air-con, provisions for a cooked breakfast, cereal, yoghurt, milk, juice, water, coffee, tea… can it get better? It sure can!

“We’re surrounded by some incredible local businesses, so we love to show off what’s on offer! We start with a glass of complimentary sparkling on arrival, then leave you to try a Dasher + Fisher gin and tonic, and a bottle of Elysian red wine to help you slip straight into relaxation,” Louise says.

And there are plenty of options for nibbling. “We can organise platters from Looove Cheese or have someone cook a full-blown romantic dinner on-site, or you’re just seven minutes away from Mannum’s shops, hotels and cafes!”

As for the nature part, you’re well and truly covered! Every tent overlooks the river, which is alive with birdlife. “There’s nothing like sitting on the deck, watching a mass of pelicans land on the water… it’s like watching planes land! At different times, you’ll see black swans, wedgetail eagles, our little kangaroo family who we absolutely adore, and the big-ticket

item, our wombats! The Burrow tent was named because it sits right next to an active burrow of wombats — you can watch them come out at night, it’s incredible!”

“Our boats are equipped with a barbecue, table, chairs, an onboard toilet, large esky and bluetooth speakers, so you can set your own vibe,” Louise says.

Choose between a half or full day river cruise, where you can pull up to the bank to explore or even take kayaks on board to really make a splash. And catering for your day on the river couldn’t be easier with options to add on platters or even a meat tray from the local butcher.

You don’t have to glamp it up to book the boats, but those doing both get a sweet little discount thrown in — just part of the all-embracing Reedy Creek Retreat hospitality.

If I had any musical talent, I’d write a love song about this ten-out-often, Seafire Beach House.

Location is everything, and this beauty blends seamlessly into its wild coastal setting on southern Yorke Peninsula. Superbly located on 300 private oceanfront acres with clifftop walks, secluded coves and its own sandy beach, Seafire is all about wildlife, wilderness and waves.

Every detail of this five-star holiday accommodation has been designed with luxury in mind. Enormous floor-to-ceiling glass windows open out to views across the Southern Spencer Gulf Marine Park to Kangaroo Island. If you’re lucky, you might see fur seals rolling in the surf or a sea eagle soaring from the comfort of your living room sofa.

Guests enjoy all the bells and whistles, with ducted air-con, a cosy wood heater, underfloor heating and heated towel rails in the bathrooms, plus access to the internet so you can stay connected… or not.

LET’S STAY TOGETHER

Seafire offers a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen, a spacious living and dining area, and two private suites with king sized beds, ensuite bathrooms, smart TVs and a separate deck with an outdoor shower — so you can enjoy a romantic weekend away together, or share the love with another couple. The bedrooms are far enough apart for privacy, but close enough to step out onto your private deck and take in the views together, preferably with a cuppa in hand.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD

Owners Michele and Nick truly care for the land. “Since we bought this gorgeous coastal property in 1997, we’ve completed a major revegetation project and we’re now seeing the return of rare and endangered species to the site. If they’d like to, our guests can get involved by sponsoring nest boxes for our local barn owls or the endangered western pygmy possums that live here,” says Michele. “They can also visit a family of fur seals who love to sunbake on the rocks, just a couple of hundred metres from Seafire’s front door.”

RUNNING UP THAT HILL

At the bottom of the cliff is Seafire’s magnificent secluded beach. With sandy feet and a sun-kissed nose, you can rinse off in your own outdoor shower before retreating to a comfy sun lounger for an afternoon nap.

NEVER TEAR US APART

Seafire has a gorgeous older sister, Yondah Beach House, just a few hundred metres away, and she’s won multiple national tourism awards. While she’s definitely deluxe, Yondah is also family and pet-friendly with three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a more relaxed coastal vibe. You can sink into a plump couch by the open wood fire with a good book in hand and your dog at your feet. Oh, and the jewel in Yondah’s crown? A spectacular sandy beach cove!

We are crazy in love with both Seafire and Yondah Beach House, and after a short three-hour drive from Adelaide, you will be too!

Wanna be transported 15 million years back in time to when dinosaurs roamed the Flinders Ranges and Outback? Well, Wadlata Outback Centre is your go-to.

Their knowledgeable staff will open your eyes to all the unique experiences within the region, as well as organising your national park entry and desert parks passes. And you won’t be able to lure yourself away from their key attraction… The Tunnel Of Time.

As you learn about fossils and Dreamtime stories, you’ll come face-toface with the serpent, who once-upon-atime gouged out the gorges to make the Flinders Ranges. Make your way through the tunnels at your own pace while you watch and listen to the tales of early

settlers, pedal the radio for the School of the Air, or try your hand at Morse code.

Then, debrief at the Outback Tuckerbox and enjoy a slice of their famous quandong cheesecake before making your way to the next place on your hit list… the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden.

“Our arid lands are home to thousands of highly evolved plant communities with fragile and complex ecosystems found nowhere else on earth,” says volunteer Chris.

The garden officially opened in 1996 as a place for research and conservation. Now, with its picturesque setting of more than 250 hectares and a backdrop of the Flinders Ranges, it’s quickly become a popular tourist attraction.

You can go on a guided walk with one of their dedicated volunteers and learn all about the arid plant life or grab a map and potter along in your own time. May we suggest you also stay for lunch or visit the childrens’ arid explorers garden?

Next time you see Port Augusta on your travel plans, make sure you add in time to explore this hidden gem.

IT’S A FULL STORY OF WELLBEING.

The City of Burnside isn’t exactly new territory for us. Some of us grew up in the area, sent kids to the local schools, and we’re regulars at Burnside Village, of course. But we didn’t know that we'd been missing out on huge parts of the experience.

Established in 1856, the City of Burnside is one of Adelaide’s oldest councils. It’s filled with historic and heritage buildings, tree-lined streetscapes, and is an area that celebrates its history — from the Kaurna people to Burnside’s rural settlement and to the beautiful city it is today.

Amongst the new builds, you’ll still find huge old gum trees in Hazelwood Park, and iconic buildings, such as Beaumont House and the Regal Theatre. The City of Burnside believes that these things should be celebrated and passed on for generations, and within the city there are a number of heritage experiences for all to enjoy.

You can experience history on every corner and enjoy stepping back in time. Here’s how…

THE REGAL THEATRE

A night out at the theatre doesn’t mean what it used to. Now, it’s all about surround-sound and stuffing your face with popcorn, but once upon a time, it was an occasion to get dressed up for a special night out. The beauty of the Regal Theatre still reflects this glamour and has been maintained with so much care as a State Heritage listed iconic attraction.

It may have had a few names over the years — the Princess Theatre, Chelsea Theatre and now, the Regal Theatre — but one thing has never waivered: you can rely on this stately building when you want to watch a good flick or hire it out as a unique space for your next event. theregaltheatre.com.au

Play the property game

Investing doesn’t have to be so scary when you’ve got the right people on your side.

“YOU CAN USE THE EQUITY TO BUY EVEN MORE INVESTMENT PROPERTIES. IT CAN BECOME ADDICTIVE!”

f you’re lucky enough to be living in your dream home with a healthy savings account, then it might be time to consider your first (or second, or third) investment property. When your money sits in a savings account, not much changes — but an investment property can help grow those savings and even provide another income stream.

When the question of investment properties came up, we were all like, “Say whaaat, where do we start?” So, we

sought out some expert advice from Scott Matthews, an accredited mortgage and finance broker with 20-plus years in the industry AND the new director of Bernie Lewis Home Loans.

Who should look at buying an investment property?

If you’re passionate about real estate and want to find a sustainable way to increase your capital, an investment property could be perfect for you!

- 30 FEEL GOOD: BERNIE LEWIS HOME LOANS
“WE GUIDE AND EDUCATE YOU IN HOW THE INVESTMENT PROPERTY MARKET WORKS, SO YOU CAN FEEL EMPOWERED IN YOUR INVESTMENT.”
I

Why buy property instead of investing elsewhere?

You’re essentially using debt to increase the size of your investment, which we call gearing. Let’s just say you’ve got $10 to invest in the share market, then you get $10 of shares. But, if you use that same $10 to invest in the property market, you can secure yourself a house worth much more than that with the help of a loan. When the house then goes up in value, it increases the entire value — not just that first $10 that you started with.

What are some of the benefits of an investment property?

Chances are you’ve had to take out a loan from the bank to buy a new investment property, but the good news is that the tenant renting the property will be essentially paying all or the majority of your mortgage for you with their rent. It’s so rare for a property to not have a tenant, as rentals are so in demand.

The other main benefit is that when you sell your home at the peak of the market, you have to buy your next home at the same peak so you’ve got somewhere to live. With an investment property, you can sell at the peak of the market and then just tuck the profits away or wait to buy another investment once the market settles a little.

Why would I buy an investment property when I only get a small amount of rent back each week?

Unless your property is freehold, you’re not in it for the weekly rent payment — although, it’s a nice bonus! You’re in it because you have an entire property going up in value. The longer you hold the investment property, the more the rent will increase, mortgage will reduce, and your equity will increase. One day, that property will be valued at much more, then, you can sell it and make a profit, or you can use the equity to buy even more investment properties. It can become addictive!

Where do I start?

Before you even look at properties, you need to look at the equity of your existing properties, your savings, your income and what you can afford. You want to make sure you’re setting realistic goals.

The next step is to decide what you’re going to buy. A unit is low maintenance, but you have to factor in shared service and strata fees, and it will only increase in value at the same rate as the other units on the block. A house is a bigger investment, but it also has a better chance of increasing in value because you can make improvements.

Your broker can work out how much you can borrow, what property type is best, and ensure that your loans are structured in a way to benefit your tax. At Bernie Lewis, we guide and educate you in how the investment property market works, so you can feel empowered in your investment.

Leaps and bounds in SA

South Australia is home to CMAX

Clinical Research — and CMAX is something that all of us should know and care about. Why? Because they’re involved in ground-breaking research that has the potential to change lives.

Let’s dive a little deeper into what CMAX is. They’re a research company that specialises in Phase 1 of clinical trials, which means they’re the first stop in human research for any potential new drugs, treatments and medical devices. With the help of healthy volunteers, they test the latest and greatest in medical science.

"We work for the betterment of society by providing accurate data for evaluation of the safety and tolerability of a medication so it can move into the next phase of trials,”

says Nicholas Lee, Chief Financial Officer at CMAX.

Even if you haven’t heard of CMAX before, there’s still a chance they’ve impacted your life. They work with companies globally that choose to run their clinical trials through Australian facilities. Phase 1 trials conducted by CMAX have led to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval of:

• Tafinlar (which is used for the treatment of advanced melanoma with the BRAF V600E Mutation);

• Erivedge (which is used in the treatment of Basal Cell Carcinoma, and is prescribed when patients are no longer responsive to conventional therapy).

And TGA approval of:

• Vabomere (which is used for complicated Urinary Tract Infections and other complicated infections, including hospital-acquired pneumonia). When we say we had plenty of questions about how these clinical trials work, we mean it. So, let’s hand it over to the experts to give us a little more background on how trials in the middle of our hometown could possibly change the world.

- 34 FEEL GOOD: CMAX
What if we told you there was life-changing greatness happening right here in our own backyard?

Why do you need volunteers to participate in clinical trials?

In Australia, there are incredibly strict guidelines and regulations for a medication to be approved. All potential medications or medical interventions must go through four phases of clinical trials.

The problem is many trials don’t make it past Phase 1 because we don’t have people enrolled to test it. We need healthy volunteers to participate, to gain baseline data and for safety assessments, but the most challenging part is getting enough people involved in the trials.

What do participants get for taking part?

Anyone who completes the trial is paid for their time. And, of course, we cover the volunteer’s needs during the trial period by providing accommodation, food and wi-fi.

How can these volunteers help others all over the world?

The benefit for society is far greater! Every single participant makes a global impact by taking part in a local trial because

they bring a product one step closer to reality for people who really need these potentially life-changing medications.

For example, some trials could be looking at a potential device to help those who need daily medication, but have a condition, such as schizophrenia, that makes it hard to track their doses. Other studies look at things like a potential new cancer treatment; or an improved version of a product already on the market, which aims to reduce side effects from currently available options.

There are so many different trials happening every day — just imagine what life could be like if we could get them all across the line!

Who can take part in a clinic trial?

At CMAX, we specialise in Phase 1 and 2 trials. Generally speaking, this means we need people who are healthy and typically aged 18 to 55. They cannot be taking any other medications (other than contraception), or have any significant health concerns or conditions.

In saying that, each study has its own unique set of criteria. For example, some may be more accessible to people who take medications but have controlled conditions. Some trials will allow regular smokers, while others won’t. It’s entirely dependent on the product itself, and the safety of participants is always the top priority at CMAX.

If someone can’t participate in clinical trials themselves, they can always spread the word. Sometimes, that’s just as important as taking part in a trial.

How do you ensure the safety of the volunteers that take part?

The eligibility criteria are very strict to keep people as safe as possible. The first step is a thorough screening process where vitals and bloods are sent to the lab to identify underlying health conditions that could cause concern.

Throughout the trial, a principal investigator (who is either a specialist, head doctor or a delegate of one of them) is present for dosing and monitors each individual closely; and on the clinic floor, there are always several doctors and nurses in case they are needed at any time, as well as strict procedures for regular check-ins and data collection.

Participants are required to stay within the facility for supervision, monitoring and regular blood withdrawals to make sure things go as expected.

Perform like nobody’s watching

Tayla Filleti, age 19

As a parent, there’s something undeniably heartwarming about the first time you see your little one dancing on stage. All that hard work and practice finally culminates in a chance for them to say “Mum, watch this!” — their little face proud as punch with their efforts. Star Academy is the home of these memories, both for the dancer and their parents, as well as so many additional benefits that come with movement and dance.

So, what’s to love about Star Academy? We asked those who know best…

I was really shy when I was younger and had tried dance classes, but I cried every lesson. Mum heard that Star Academy had opened and thought I should give it another go. Now, I’m nearly in my twelfth year of dancing! I’m one of the oldest students, and growing up with all the girls has been absolutely amazing. We’re like one big family and always support each other, no matter what.

Watching Star Academy grow and evolve has been one of the best parts, but being given amazing opportunities, like going to America to dance in exhibitions, has been an absolute highlight.

Imogen Baily, age 15

I was always dancing and singing around the house, so Star Academy was the perfect place for me. Now, I’m in my eighth year! I immediately felt welcomed by the teachers and other students, and I fell in love with the opportunity to try acting and singing, too.

The best part of being a student at Star Academy is the community. I’ve developed in all aspects of performing arts and made lifelong friendships, which I never expected. It’s my second family — somewhere I always feel safe and supported — which shows it’s something special.

THERE’S SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL ABOUT WATCHING YOUR KIDS LOVE AN EXPERIENCE.

Sienna Hall, age 12

I was part of a ‘Bring a Friend Day’, and I’ve never looked back. My experience has been so fun, and I’ve loved making lots of friends over the years. The best part of being a Star Academy student is getting the opportunity to compete in competitions and being so close with my friends, who are now like family.

Clara Guimaraes, age 12

I’ve loved my experience since the first day of dancing at Star Academy four years ago. The teachers and students make you feel comfortable and happy while dancing, and my classes are always the highlight of my week. The team I’m now a part of is amazing, and I love having the opportunity to compete together. They’ve

also helped me to improve in many ways and given me so much confidence — I’m so grateful to be a part of it!

There’s something beautiful about watching your kids love an experience, but when it comes with mental and physical health benefits, that’s another big tick in the parenting book. Star Academy is giving more kids this opportunity, with a new studio at 199 Franklin Street, Adelaide set to open in January 2023, while classes at Grote Street continue as normal. Wish we could be kids again to go to class, too!

Maya Papas, age 8

I really want to be a dancer, so Star Academy is the best place for me! I started four years ago, and I’m still excited before every class — I have so much fun! My favourite thing about dancing is being with my friends, but I also love the teachers — they’re so kind and have helped me improve my skills and flexibility. They’ve inspired me to do even MORE dancing!

A+ for community spirit

Every child should be encouraged to be a part of something bigger than just themselves.

I believe that educational success should be measured by three things — grades, effort and what you give back to the community.

At Walford Anglican School for Girls, social responsibility and contributing to the greater good is prioritised. I was lucky enough to attend Walford from Year 7 to Year 12, and I'll always be grateful that the school shines such a

big spotlight on the importance of helping others. It’s the sports teams I was part of and the friendships I made, but also the opportunities to give back to the wider community by volunteering.

I was honoured to have been invited back to be part of the partnership between Walford and Kickstart for Kids. Walking through the school gates at forty years old, I still got the same sense of comfort and belonging that I felt all those years ago, and I love knowing that community spirit is still at the school’s core.

Walford played host school for a morning of collaboration to raise awareness for disadvantaged school children here in South Australia, with a particular focus on period poverty.

In South Australia, one in four girls doesn’t attend school because she doesn’t have access to feminine hygiene products. Kickstart for Kids has created a new Period Poverty program, where sanitary items will be distributed to over 350 South Australian schools — and naturally, Walford has jumped on board to help.

The special morning was facilitated by Kickstart for Kids Founder Ian Steel and TikTok sensation Jenna with the Pink. It armed the Walford students with the information they needed to help fight period poverty in SA, and I know I certainly walked away feeling inspired to play my part in making a change.

Walford girls have a wonderful reputation for fully embracing others less fortunate than themselves, so it doesn’t surprise me that they’re already leading the pack when it comes to donating sanitary products to the cause.

At Walford, the power of community is stronger than ever, and the thing I love the most is that these girls will take these values with them when they leave school and become our future leaders.

Around the world

In our eyes, one of the biggest privileges in life is sharing another person’s culture. And if the last couple of years have done anything, it’s reminded us how lucky we are to be able to travel internationally and experience the wonders of the world.

Students of the World is here to make foreign exchanges as easy as possible on both sides — for a young person who has big dreams, or for a host family with room to provide an incredible opportunity.

Here are the ins and outs of how it works…

Travel bugs

Imagine an overseas adventure with zero hassle. Sounds too good to be true, right? Students of the World makes it easy-peasy for students who are 15 to 18-years-old on departure to study abroad by coordinating flights, insurance, travel itineraries and visas.

There are so many benefits with taking part in an international exchange — perhaps you want to improve your language skills, explore a new place, learn about a new culture, meet students from different backgrounds or experience life as a local. The world is at your fingertips! And when it comes to matters of safety, Students of the World has you covered. “Safety is so important! We make sure that our international partners hold the

same qualifications and accreditations as we do. We also make sure that our exchange students have a local, English speaking contact that they can reach out to 24/7 if they need anything. Host families are carefully selected and go through a rigorous vetting process that includes working with children checks and police checks, so we know you’re in safe hands,” says Sandeep Agarwal, Managing Director of Students of the World.

The beauty of partnering with approved international partners is that there are endless places you can go! Just pick a spot on the map or think about which language skills you’d like to build on, and Students of the World will start searching for your perfect host family.

Hosts with big hearts

Inviting someone into your home is an incredibly generous offer, and it would feel even better to know that you’re giving a young person a once in a lifetime experience! “Our host families are so important because they open up a world of opportunities for students around the globe who are keen to experience everyday life in an Australian household and school,” says Sandeep.

And the benefits go both ways! “Host families get to learn about a new culture, brush up on their language skills and develop long-lasting friendships. And anyone can be a host family! Whether you’ve got lots of kids, one kid, are a

single-parent family or a couple without children — if you’re willing to take part, we’d love to have you on board,” says Sandeep.

Don’t just take our word for it…

These exchange programs have been tried and tested by students and families all over the world!

“My exchange year was the best of my life, and I will never forget how my decision to live abroad and discover what the world had in store for me was life-changing. It’s something I will always cherish.”

Elyse, mother of an Australian student who is on exchange in France

“Students of the World puts the student first at all times — they work hard to make sure the experience is well supported and also a lot of fun. It's clear to us that Students of the World has established a longstanding, high-quality partnership with the exchange company in France.

Our daughter was carefully matched with a host family who accommodated her personal interests and needs as a vegetarian.”

Jane, an Australian host

“Six weeks can fly by fast, and it was a wonderful experience to host a student from Europe. One of the best things? It makes you all, as a family, really present in each and every day. Making the most of little routines, like lazy Sunday brunches on the patio and chilling at the beach, through to planning mini trips to enjoy the magic of our region.”

“MY EXCHANGE YEAR WAS THE BEST OF MY LIFE.”

Over 100 years ago, Scotch was founded by ten leaders who envisioned a college in Torrens Park House. Through generous gifts and donations, the school has continued to expand over the years, and scores of students have been given an education like no other. The scholarship program is an opportunity for Scotch to encourage diversity, giving high-achieving students

the chance to shine. "We want everyone to have the best opportunity to soar — and part and full scholarships help us to open doors for some who may not otherwise be able. Some are funded through the school and others through foundations like the Old Collegians,” says Director of Admissions Carrie Cousar.

And it doesn’t end at graduation — they hold on tightly to their community for

years to come. At Scotch, you don’t just get an education — you get access to a web of connections and people doing amazing things across the globe.

One example is the current president of the Old Collegians Association and recipient of a Scotch scholarship, Hamish Archibald. The opportunities provided by Scotch helped to shape his career — here’s his story.

- 44 FAMILY: SCOTCH COLLEGE
Every parent wants the best of the best for their kids, and Scotch College offers that opportunity.
WORDS Millie Looker
AT SCOTCH, YOU DON’T JUST GET AN EDUCATION.

A NEVER-ENDING OPPORTUNITY

Hamish and his twin brother, Lachlan, were encouraged by their parents to sit the Scotch scholarship exam, just to see what would happen. After taking the exam in Scotch’s beautiful chapel, a few weeks passed before Hamish was offered a General Excellence Scholarship to cover 50 percent of his tuition fees. This incredible opportunity provided a chance for both brothers to attend the school for the remainder of their education, starting in Year 8.

“Scotch was a hugely positive experience for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a student and embraced the huge range of different opportunities there. I signed up for rowing and other various activities and loved it so much that I ended up coaching!” Hamish remembers.

After leaving school, Hamish headed straight to Flinders University to study Law and Commerce for five years, before diving into the workforce as a practising lawyer. He travelled overseas to Canada

where he met his wife, before they both moved back to SA to start their family.

Hamish’s connection to Scotch has never wavered — from playing footy for the Old Collegians team while studying to joining the Old Collegians Association, and eventually moving into the role of president in 2017.

“The Old Collegians Association is all about keeping people connected with Scotch and with each other — our motto is ‘Continuing friendships and connections for life’. We have our own scholarship that gives a 25 percent fee remission for a student in Year 10, 11 and 12 each year. After receiving a scholarship at Scotch myself, it’s pretty special to be able to help award the same opportunities to other students,” Hamish says.

And in a true full-circle moment, Hamish’s twin brother, Lachlan, now teaches Senior Math and Biology and is Head of House at Scotch College!

Scholarships help make a Scotch education a reality, and they welcome students from all walks of life. If you think Scotch might be the right fit for your family, check out more of the scholarship opportunities on their website or call 8274 4209 to book a tour.

THE RIGHT SCHOLARSHIP FOR YOU

Scotch understands that no student is the same, so the different paths to a Scotch education reflect that. Some of the options on the table (amongst many others) include Personal Endeavor Scholarships, Academic, General Excellence, Enrichment (Performing Arts) and more, providing varying levels of fee remission for tuition and boarding. Students are accepted into scholarship programs from Year 4 right through to Year 10.

Free pizza

This 6,000-year-old Italian sourdough recipe is gluten-friendly, so you’ll be FREE from that sluggish feeling after you eat!

When you meet inspiring people, a bit of their magic rubs off and you walk away feeling ready to conquer the world! That’s how we felt after dining at RoccoPizza on Findon Road. Rocco DeAngelis is a feeder by nature, and he’s on a mission to save the planet from bad pizza.

“Most people who suffer from yeast intolerance mistakenly go off wheat and pizza because of the bloating associated with processed food. The answer is sourdough with no yeast,” says Rocco. Highly processed pizza toppings also fuel that discomfort. But his wood-fired pizza bases and toppings contain no sugar, additives or preservatives. Even his dessert pizzas are made from natural ingredients, so you’ll leave happy — and so will your tum!

Imagine being able to eat as much pizza as you can, but without the need for a nap straight afterwards. If you’re wondering what Rocco’s secret is, he’ll gladly tell you…

- 46 FOOD: ROCCOPIZZA
ROCCO DEANGELIS IS A FEEDER BY NATURE, AND HE’S ON A MISSION TO SAVE THE PLANET FROM BAD PIZZA.

His authentic Italian sourdough is made using three simple ingredients: water, flour and salt. Then, over three days, the long fermentation process eliminates over 99.99 percent of the natural gluten in the dough. That’s it!

This self-confessed pizza tragic found his calling after working as a senior business director for some of the biggest brands in the world. It’s not that he didn’t enjoy his work; he even became a certified chocolatier, simply to understand the product behind a brand he represented. But negotiating multimillion-dollar deals wasn’t his calling.

He travelled across Italy to learn an ancient sourdough recipe, before launching his pizza dream in Sydney. With his first restaurant up and running, he returned home to Adelaide to raise his family and build his business.

Do what makes you happy!

Twenty years later, this paper-pushingglobal-negotiating-chocolatier has the Ferrari of pizza ovens to deliver hundreds of gluten-friendly pizzas a night. Rocco’s Ferrari oven can cook a pizza in 90 seconds. Correction: eight pizzas at the

same time in 90 seconds! Bright red neon lights, akin to a rocket launch, count down before a delicious pizza is on a cooling rack and ready to be cut with scissors. That’s enough time to find your table and grab a drink. And you read that correctly: scissors!

“The traditional way of using scissors is a lot easier, as you can cut your slices exactly to size,” says Rocco. The pizzas go from the oven to a cooling rack to allow the steam to evaporate and prevent them from going soggy.

Hold. Fold. Eat. Repeat! “We’re on the precipice of greatness, where we appreciate the good stuff,” says Rocco. The last 20 years have shown that Australians know good coffee and now, are starting to understand good pizza, too. He says, “What happened with coffee and baristas is about to happen with pizza, as people learn to make authentic pizza with Italian sourdough”.

He can show anyone how to end that uncomfortable feeling after eating pizza. He taught our kids, 7 and 10, how to prepare perfect gluten-friendly, authentic Italian sourdough pizza bases in five minutes flat!

RoccoPizza is different to anything you’ve experienced before. The menu’s

No ham and pineapple!

Rocco doesn’t serve ham and pineapple. If you don’t believe me, check out his website or his staff aprons — it’s right there, embroidered above the bib. He knows good pizza, but he also knows that everyone’s different. If there’s something you want and it’s not on his menu, he’ll add it to your pizza. If you want onion, bring one in; if you want rabbit, he’ll make it work; and if you want pineapple, just make sure it’s not tinned because he only serves fresh food to his customers!

stacked and his finishing touches are next level. If you love chilli, try his homemade honey-balsamic-chilli drizzled over a gorgonzola cream cheese pizza. Or, the tuna pizza. For Italians, tuna is like chicken is to us, and when it’s on pizza, you won’t regret it!

RoccoPizza has licensed restaurants in Kidman Park and Fulham Gardens. You can dine in, pick up, or get RoccoPizza and desserts delivered to your door via UberEats and Deliveroo.

In July 2022, Flambé Kitchen + Bar swung open its doors on Hutt Street, and since then, team Flambé has been serving up sizzling plates for brunch, lunch and dinner alongside their signature cocktails.

At Flambé, it’s about cooking something to make the flavours sing — and this often involves flames and cooking over the grill! Glance at the ever-changing seasonal menu and you’ll find some uniquely South Australian dishes that celebrate local produce, using only the best meat, vegetables and wines.

For brunch, say a big fat yes to the eggs Florentine or Benedict on a bagel — just so you can have a taste of the hollandaise, which is handmade to order. Heading into lunch, the range of baguettes and salads are luscious yet light, but if you’re craving something with a bit more oomph, the chicken and mushroom risotto is ace, too!

As dinner rolls around, let your tastebuds get to work on the mussels with bacon, shallots, tomato, white wine and blue cheese; or impress your guest with a whole rainbow trout. If seafood isn’t your thing, get ready to chow down on the filled field mushroom; or the barbecue pork and citrus salad

with green chilli. This menu is forever changing, so don’t just take our word for it — grab a table and peruse the seasonal menu at your leisure.

With seating available both inside and out, you can take in the morning sun with a cup of coffee on this beautiful corner of Hutt Street (Flambé is open from 8am on weekends, and 11am on weekdays), or dive into the casual vibe inside for a cocktail or two. The decor is modern with ambient lighting, and the fluorescent signs give clear instructions to ‘chill and drink’. And drink you will!

Flambé’s sommelier has designed a crisp cocktail menu that changes with the seasons, and as I write this, I’m eyeing off the Mochatini! If cocktails aren’t for you, sample the mocktail menu, indulge in some local SA wines or sip away on mainstream and craft beers.

Whatever the occasion, book in at Flambé for an evening of good food and drinks, with flames to boot!

Where should you go when you want a home cooked meal, just like your nonna would make? Fine Food Cucina has been serving up authentic Italian dishes for almost 10 years, with careful instruction from owner Dario Fontanarosa. One bite and you’ll be Fine Food fans for life!

“We’re all about high quality, homestyle cooking from our family to yours. Our food is filled with love and passion, and as I always say — if I wouldn’t feed it to my children, I won’t serve it to my customers,” Dario says.

Dine the Fine Food way

Open six days a week, Fine Food Cucina is dedicated to creating quality meals using traditional recipes. “The main ingredients in all of our food? Culture and a whole lot of passion,” Dario says.

For the early birds, the Bialetti coffee is strong and the breakfast menu is big, with fan-favourites like smashed avocado and pancakes up for grabs. Stop by for lunch

— whether you’re craving a hearty bowl of puttanesca, a hand-stretched pizza topped with incredible ingredients, or their Tradie Pack, which includes three of their top-selling paninis: prosciutto, salami and chicken schnitzel.

And hallelujah, Fine Food Cucina serves quality Italian soft drinks, wine and cocktails to make your feast feel even more special!

From their home to yours!

Fine Food Cucina has taken the work out of your next dinner with their grab and go meals. “We’re about convenience, and want to make sure that busy families can enjoy a home-cooked meal together,” says Dario.

Their lasagna (available in classic, vegetarian and many other options) is famous among loyal customers. Just pop it in the oven and everyone will be praising your excellent skills in the kitchen. Your secret is safe with us!

Party picks

Ain’t no party like a Fine Food party! The catering menu is mouth watering, with antipasto boxes, heat-and-eat arancini, porchetta roasts, and huge trays of pasta! Their in-house pastry chefs can also whip up some mini assorted cakes for an epic dessert table if ‘Sweet’ is your middle name.

Fine Food Cucina also throws their own parties to celebrate seasonal and local produce — keep an eye on their social media pages and website to be in the know.

And while you’re shopping for dinner options, pick up some extra goodies — pasta, olives, Italian liqueurs, fresh coffee — you won’t leave empty handed!

Without fail, I walk into Fine Food Cucina hungry, and walk out, arms full and heart warm and fuzzy. Now, that’s amore!

The previous part-owners of Singapore House, Montie and Hailey Waraich’s passion for exceptional food and service brings us Littlehampton’s tastiest restaurant. Head Chef Montie draws on his Indian heritage and French training to serve up the most exquisite range of Southeast Asian dishes and every bite packs an almighty punch.

THE FOOD

As the name suggests, it’s light, super tasty and banging with flavour! It’s all designed to share, but you’ll want to finish every bite yourself. But, where to start? A nibble on the crispy Salt and Pepper Squid with Yuzo mayo, perhaps the Beef Rendang or the Duck Salad with Banana Blossom? It’s a hard call with so many Little Bangs, Big Bangs and Bang Bang sides on offer, but one thing I’ll tell you is that I’d happily eat the Crying Tiger

Salad every day for the rest of my life. And for the exclamation point at the end of your meal, the Bang Bang Sweets are the perfect way to wrap it all up.

THE DRINKS

Food aside, grab yourself a Rhubarb Margarita and tell me it doesn’t take you straight to heaven! Hailey and Montie have crafted the cocktails and mocktails, then selected beer, ciders and wine to give you a full-body buzz.

OUTSIDE THE BOX

Honey Bang Bang is also a cracking option for a get-together if you want to book part or the whole place. It’s intimate, quirky and you can tailor a sit-down meal, stand-up party with platters, bring a DJ… whatever it takes to put the bang into a long lunch, big bash or any kind of special occasion. And if you’re keen for a night at home with some seriously good fare, grab yourself some takeaway you won’t regret.

THE VIBE

What could make an incredible feed even better? A welcoming vibe! Like the owners, the space is down to earth and perfectly placed in the Hills, and with a team to match, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve popped in for a bite to eat with mates.

It’s exceptional places like Honey Bang Bang that make me proud to be a Hills local. When food this good is done this well, it makes for an unforgettable day or night you’ll long to recreate, again and again. It’s five stars from me, honey, and truly bang on!

Double whammy

After a long hiatus, big events are back, and they’re living up to their pre-pandemic glory!

From takeaway coffees to full blown weddings in a bespoke winery set among the vines, Angle Vale’s familyowned Sneaky's Restaurant is all about bringing back the party. Since 2014, the team at Sneaky's has been passionate about serving up quality Italian cuisine made with South Australia's finest produce. Their restaurant is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, so you can pop in for a quick bite to eat — or bring 150 of your closest friends for a party takeover!

The restaurant menu is ‘magnifico’, just like Nonna would have made it — wood-fired pizzas made right in front of you, fresh pastas, seafood, Wagyu beef and antipasto platters, with plenty of vegetarian options, plus a special menu for kids under twelve.

Set on the gorgeous grounds of Virgara Wines, Sneaky’s event space is like the movie Inception — venues within venues, within venues. “We have multiple rooms on site, each with their own design, and guests are always impressed,” says owner and Head Chef Anthony Pilaia. Italian food and great wine go hand-inhand, making Sneaky’s and Virgara Wines the perfect partnership. Most guests enjoy a wine tasting at Virgara and then wander over to Sneaky’s for lunch. “We’re separate businesses, but we do everything together. We exclusively stock Virgara Wines, not just because we’re loyal friends, but because we think their wines are some of the best in South Australia!” Anthony says. With stay-at-home orders now a thing of the past, it’s time to put on your party pants again!

Party for two?

I do! The gorgeous wine cellar is perfectly intimate and super romantic. You’re surrounded by Virgara’s best drops and can enjoy alone time with a private threecourse spread.

Party for twelve?

The VIP room is indeed for very important people like family and friends, and baby showers, client lunches or dinner with your besties. Guests will be wowed with a menu that’s to-die-for and service that you’d expect in a fine dining restaurant.

Party for the masses?

You can’t be the hostess with the mostest and be stress-free, right? It’s just not possible! Sneaky’s will step in and step up, with their dedicated, full-time functions coordinator helping to organise everything for you from seating plans to curating a bespoke menu for your event.

“We’re like a big family, so we encourage large group bookings — nothing is ever a problem! We can generously cater for up to 150 people inside or outside, plus we have bars in both locations.”

Sneaky’s popular upstairs Wine Bar can cater for anywhere between forty and eighty guests, and boasts a private entrance, private balcony, private bathroom and best of all, a private bar.

If an outdoor event is more your style, you can certainly have that little dream come true on the lush lawns of the property. “We have gorgeous outdoor ceremonies where party goers can either have a marquee, or we simply set up a dance floor with fairy lights under the stars. It’s a truly magical experience!”

So, pop in for lunch or stay for the party — either way, everyone’s welcome!

A Betty’s summer

Forget the summer of love — we’re here for the summer of burgers!

Salty beach days that lead into warm nights you never want to end, plenty of sunshine and endless good vibes — it’s time to embrace everything that a South Aussie summer has to offer. And at Betty’s Burgers, summer never ends!

The doors are always open, ready to welcome you and your besties inside. You’re welcome to stay and play the day away, feasting on burgers or cooling down from the inside out with a frozen custard ice cream. And with four restaurants dotted across Adelaide (you read that right, FOUR restaurants — hello Hyde Park and Marion!), this mouth-watering burger joint will be your official summer spot.

Whether you’re off to a gig later that night, spending a long arvo at the cricket, or just escaping the summer heat with the family, Betty’s is the first stop on any good summer adventure.

Yum on the run

How many times have you been running around, ticking things off the to-do list before you realise it’s 4pm and you haven’t had lunch? A Bare Betty from the Norwood restaurant will hit the spot. This lighter take on the classic burger is wrapped in lettuce instead of a traditional bun — and you can replace the Angus beef with chicken or a plant-based patty.

Sundays are for the girls

Look no further than burgers and thickshakes in Hyde Park for your next leisurely Sunday catch-up with the besties. The Betty’s Classic is filled with all the goods, like Angus beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, special sauce — and best of all, it won’t distract from all the juicy gossip flying around the table.

Brand spanking new

Introducing the newest feather in the Betty’s Burgers cap — a restaurant in Marion opening later this year! With all the summer vibes you know and love, this restaurant is chillaxed down to a tee. A big day of shopping should definitely be rewarded with a Crispy Chicken Supreme, which has literally everything we love — crispy fried chicken, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and their special sauce — all wrapped up in a soft bun.

Bright lights and city nights

A night on the town calls for something a bit spesh at the OG restaurant on Rundle Street. We can’t go past the Noosa Classic Surf with a Betty’s Beer Ale by Pirate Life to wash it down. This summer-inspired burger ain’t mucking around, with Angus beef, lightly battered prawns, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese and their special sauce. bettysburgers.com.au

Betty’s Burgers is home to some of our best summer stories, but let’s face it — we’re big fans all year round.

Wow your friends and family with some Kytons goodies and a few simple steps.

I f you’re anything like us, you’re always looking for ways to spend less time in the kitchen and more time with your guests. Over the years, we’ve come up with some hacks to bring that wow factor, without slaving over the stove.

The secret to these hacks is to start with the best of the best — in this case (and especially around the festive season), our top pick is Kytons Bakery Australia. This South Australian, familyowned business based in Edwardstown has been baking up a storm for over 80 years, and they’ve perfected the art

of their famous lamingtons, mince pies and Christmas puddings along the way.

Husband and wife owners Darren and Sharon Sutton’s number one priority is making sure quality is at the heart of everything they do. “Our pursuit of quality means we use the best ingredients, follow traditional recipes and take great care in our baking. We select premium ingredients sourced from Australia as much as possible, knowing that you would do the same if you were baking for yourself at home,” says Sharon.

Take a load off this summer and steal a few of our Kytons hacks — we don’t mind!

THE SECRET TO THESE HACKS IS TO START WITH THE BEST OF THE BEST.

Hack 1: Christmas pudding Eton mess

Creating a delicious dessert by making a mess? Count us in!

• Get a 700g Kytons Traditional Christmas Pudding from your local Kytons stockist.

• Crumble the pudding into small chunks, then start layering your glass with Christmas pudding, a dollop of custard and a sprinkling of seasonal fruit.

• Repeat until the glass is full, then garnish with fruit. Enjoy!

Hack 2: Mince pie ice cream

It’s summer, it’s hot and there are always extra mince pies around the place. Kids and adults will love this easy dessert!

• Set a tub of ice cream out to soften until almost melted, then stir through a few handfuls of chopped Kytons Mince Pies.

• Return to the freezer, and once the ice cream is solid again, serve! It’s also delicious with caramel sauce drizzled over the top.

Hack 3: Mini lamington slice

Pop a plate of Kytons Mini Lamingtons on the table, and your guests will be very happy. Create a dessert with a little bit of pizzazz, and they’ll be thrilled!

• Grab a 12-pack of Kytons Mini Lamingtons in the fridge section of your local Kytons stockist — you can find the full list online.

• Make some strawberry jelly according to packet instructions and pop it in the fridge until it starts to set around the edges.

• Lay the mini lamingtons in a baking tray and squash them down a little bit so there are no gaps.

• Pour the slightly-set jelly over the lamingtons, then pop it in the fridge to set completely.

• Just before serving, pipe a layer of whipped cream across the jelly, then cover with another layer of mini lamingtons.

• Cut into squares and serve immediately.

Hack 4: Santa’s House emergency gift or festive activity

Don’t you hate it when a friend pops past with a gift for you, and you don’t have anything in return? We’ve got your back!

Just keep a few of the Kytons Santa’s Chocolate Chip House Kits gift-wrapped and tucked away for these exact moments. It’s a fun, festive gift and a nice little nod to SA. They’re also great to have in the cupboard for when the kids are getting a bit stir crazy over the holidays… set out some extra lollies and chopped fruit so they can get creative!

Give yourself the gift of extra time with your loved ones this summer by cutting some corners with Kytons. You deserve it!

A south-east summer

No seaside getaway or country escape is complete without a stop in at the local. It’s a place where the community comes together, and that’s exactly what you’ll find when you road trip to the south-east. Whether you’re exploring the township of Naracoorte or heading straight to the beautiful beaches of Robe this summer, you’ll want to know about these destinations…

Naracoorte Hotel Motel

This 1850s country pub in the heart of Naracoorte is decorated with old farm gear, working pieces and trinkets adorning the walls. It’s filled with soul and offers some of the best hospitality in the south-east!

Holiday time works differently, so it’s a relief that the Naracoorte Hotel Motel has all-day dining on Friday and Saturday from 12pm. Late lunch? No problem! For a good meal, snag a seat in Billy Mac’s open-plan bistro, or sit in the atrium for some indooroutdoor dining instead. You’ll find classics on the menu, including fish and chips, surf and turf and fresh salads. Grab a slice of the homemade pizzas (available for dinein or takeaway), or plan your visit for the weekly Steak and Schnitty nights. Not to mention, $1 from every parmi purchased on a Wednesday goes straight to the Naracoorte Royal Flying Doctor Service. The sports bar is complete with a pool table and a sporting match always playing. It’s also the place for the Friday Night Draw, in support of local community

groups and charities, where a raffle ticket could land you a six pack, a bottle of local wine or everyone’s favourite, the meat tray! The beer garden is adorned with trees and is the perfect place to take in this easy way of life with some live music. Or, if you’re driving past, pop into the bottle shop and grab one of Coonawarra’s finest to take with you.

As for accommodation… take a load off in one of the Naracoorte Hotel Motel’s fully refurbished rooms. Choose from a queen, twin or family room — it’s the perfect overnight stop or base for exploring.

BRUSH OFF YOUR SANDY TOES AND WANDER INSIDE FOR A COOL DRINK AND A GOOD FEED.

The Robe Hotel

Right where the country meets the sea, this grand hotel built in 1840 sits on the foreshore and offers sweeping ocean views. Spend all day diving into the sea, then brush off your sandy toes and wander inside for a cool drink and a good feed. Choose to sit in the open-plan bistro, sports bar or outdoor drinking and dining space so you can keep one eye on the ocean. We can’t talk about this seaside menu (created by Head Chef Nathan Cheung and his talented kitchen team) without mentioning the rotating specials — they’re updated daily as the cray boats roll in

or the fish is collected fresh from the marina. Local produce is the hero of all their dishes, so alongside the plentiful seafood selection, you’ll also find classic pub food done right.

The team behind this Robe icon is local, through and through! They thrive off summer when the town is abuzz with visitors, while also relishing the cooler months, when locals and holiday-makers visit for a glass of wine. You can live like a local too by taking part in the Friday Night Draw for a chance to win a pretty speccy meat or seafood tray, or order a parmi on a Wednesday to support Robe For Recovery.

If we haven’t given you enough reasons to visit already, these local legends love

to have a good time! With a drinks list filled with cold tap beers, local wines and cheeky summer cocktails, The Robe Hotel also knows how to throw a good party and is famous for their New Year’s Eve shindig. The epic outdoor event space comes to life with live bands, DJs and more!

Give yourself one less thing to think about on your next road trip, and stay at the Robe Hotel in their cosy upstairs accommodation — it’s clean, comfortable and budget friendly, but the best part is waking up to the sounds of the ocean.

Best of both

Choosing your fave meal of the day is like choosing a favourite child — it’s fraught with danger. Hello Neighbour, Artusi by Night lets you embrace it all.

When you can’t decide between two equally delicious things, I like to take Old El Paso’s advice… “Why don’t we have both!” We regularly thank the heavens that owners of Hyde Park’s Hello Neighbour, Artusi by Night think the same way. Our go-to is not only fail-proof for an all-day brunch, but at night it switches to a mouth-watering gnoccheria. They’ve been winning loyal fans since opening in early 2020, and an experience there continues to wow with the launch of their new menu.

- 60 FOOD: HELLO NEIGHBOUR, ARTUSI BY NIGHT
Photo: Wayne Pearson.
“EVERY PIECE OF GNOCCHI IS HANDMADE FRESH BY OUR CHEFS EACH DAY.”

So, how did this unique concept come about?

When local hospo icons Fillippo Ludovici, Alisha Myers and Laura Edmunds decided to plate up food that makes them tick, they came up with this deliciousness! For Alisha and Laura, brunch is where it’s at — and it made sense to switch to Fil’s passion for housemade gnocchi at night.

“Everything came together when we found this spot on King William Road. There’s a lot of pizza and pasta out there, so we decided to hero things differently. Our brunch options are generous and exciting; and for dinner, every piece of gnocchi is handmade fresh by our chefs each day. We combine this with our small plates, which are perfect to share, and nothing’s overly complicated — it’s good quality food, made really well,” Laura says.

It’s impossible to sum up the droolworthy menu on a page, so we asked the masters for their top picks…

Just a taste

Fil’s hot tip – “For brunch, I can’t go past the brioche French toast, burnt citrus curd, almond crumb, chocolate mousse and Pashmak (a fluffy, pink Persian fairy floss). Come dinner time, I’ll tuck into the cauliflower gnocchi, with leek, guanciale and chilli!”

Alisha’s pick – “My favourite treat is the buttermilk fried chicken served on waffles, with maple syrup and sriracha mayo for a delicious brunch. It’s hard to choose between the gnocchi dishes, but I’m a big fan of the beef cheek ragu, topped with fresh rosemary and pancetta.”

Laura’s order – “There’s plenty of refreshing brekky options, like the watermelon salad, served with halloumi, puffed rice, labna and herbs. And I’ll never say no to a big bowl of basil pesto gnocchi, topped with confit garlic, chilli and stracciatella!”

The menu is mostly vegetarian based, and everything can be made gluten-free or vegan, too. “Pop it with one of our hearty Bloody Marys, an Italian or local beer, an SA wine, fresh juice or coffee, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a good time!” Laura says.

As for our recommendation… take your lover, your friends and all your children (even the non-favourite-ones). The best way to brunch or dinner-dine here is by sampling as many dishes as you can — the more the merrier!

“THERE’S A LOT OF PIZZA AND PASTA OUT THERE, SO WE DECIDED TO HERO THINGS DIFFERENTLY.”

Say goodbye to quick-fix food guilt — Bowlsome is here to save the day!

Sometimes, life gets crazy busy and the need for convenience outweighs good food choices. We’ve all been guilty of grabbing a cheeseburger, a bucket of fries or a muffin on the run — you know, those quick lunches between meetings, a late dinner when the kids’ sport finishes after dark. But we’re shimmying, now knowing that there’s a better option.

Bowlsome’s range of fresh, wholesome, locally grown food that’s full of flavour makes eating mindfully easier than ever. Even better? You can grab their tasty bowls when you’re doing your supermarket shop, so there’s no need for separate stops.

THE WHAT

You won’t find any nasties in this unbelievably convenient range — that means NO preservatives, NO additives, NO numbers — it’s just real food that’s good for you and tastes great. We’re talking Cold Bowls and Heat & Eat Bowls, complete with homemade dressings, plenty of locally grown produce and lots of vegan options. When you’re looking at an Asian Chicken Slaw Bowl, packed with protein and antioxidants, you can’t help but get excited about its nutrition. Finished off with a housemade ginger, soy and sesame dressing, it’s a perfect lunch-onthe-run option.

- 62 FOOD: BOWLSOME
IT’S JUST REAL FOOD THAT’S GOOD FOR YOU AND TASTES GREAT.

Or, perhaps a Roasted Harvest Bowl with quinoa, three-bean and prebiotics, Omega 3 and B vitamins, all topped off with a delicious housemade spicy seed and cranberry crunch, and turmeric, cashew and dill dressing. This baby’s delicious warmed or as a side dish… did someone say the perfect shortcut when you’re entertaining over summer? We hear you!

And for a taste of their Heat & Eat range, wrap your head around the soul-warming Chicken Curry Bowl (with sweet potato, carrot and pumpkin on a bed of coconut rice); or the Vegan Mushroom Ragout Bowl, which is cooked with a hint of miso and contains a colourful range of health boosting, prebiotic fibre vegetables served on a bed of rice noodles.

THE WHY

Chatting to the creator of Bowlsome, Danielle Elia, it’s clear that these chef curated bowls have been meticulously thought out. They include a mix of healthy fats, carbs and protein to sustain you throughout the day, so you won’t find yourself reaching for sugary treats to get you through. Thank you, ma’am!

“We don’t believe in adding anything artificial in any of our meals — it’s just clean, wholesome food with zero preservatives, all made right here in South Australia. We work closely with local growers so that where possible, every ingredient is brought in, cooked in house and packed fresh,” Danielle explains.

“I’ve always been passionate about clean eating, and I have certain food allergies, so I used to find it frustrating that I couldn’t find convenient food that was good for me. Then, when my son was three-years-old, he had a reaction and had to be put on a dairy-free, gluten-free diet. Our family’s not the only one to face these sorts of challenges, so when I started Bowlsome, I made sure to be mindful of various dietaries and people’s different needs.”

THE WHERE

These little bowls of convenient goodness can be found all over SA in independent supermarkets, selected convenience stores and OTRs, as well as via the easy-touse online store.

As for our own commitment to looking after ourselves better on a day-to-day basis, Bowlsome’s just made that one heck of a lot easier, and that’s totally awesome!

ESCAPE THE SUMMER HEAT AND LIVE YOUR BEST BEACHSIDE LIFE.

When it’s too hot to handle, we know where we’re heading…

There’s more than meets the eye at the Brighton Metro Hotel — hiding behind its walls is an oasis to help you escape the summer heat and live your best beachside life.

Located in Adelaide’s south-west, this time-tested venue has been loved by locals for decades. In the last couple of years, it’s had a facelift and joined the ranks of SA’s best pubs in the biz.

Here’s a whole list of reasons why you should definitely be spending balmy summer evenings at the Brighton Metro Hotel.

1. THE PLACE TO BE

This one’s a no-brainer. Just minutes from some of the very best beaches in Adelaide, you can wrap up a day by the ocean with dinner and drinks at this easygoing destination.

2. DON’T SWEAT OVER THE STOVE

Who needs to be on dinner duty, cooking for picky eaters? No one! Head along to the Brighton Metro Hotel and let the littlies pick their dinner from the huge buffet. And with a kids’ zone right there, you’ll be able to eat your dinner in peace without fidgety hands at the dinner table.

If a buffet isn’t your vibe, you might find your new fave dish on the refreshed menu, which is available in the beer garden and sports bar. Our mouths are watering just thinking of the classics that are done oh-so-well, like the fried chicken burgers, rump steak fresh off the grill, calamari and pizzas.

3. A DRINKS MENU TO MATCH

Our perfect summer is filled with cocktails and mocktails that make our hearts sing! Refresh your palate with a pink gin sour, passoã sangria or the berry tiki for a zeroalcohol option. If cocktails aren’t your jam, then pour it up from the frosty beer taps

filled with local and international brews, or order a bottle of vino and an ice bucket to sip the day away.

4. A PUB FOR PUPS

Don’t leave your pets to swelter at home! Bring them to the Brighton Metro Hotel, where they can receive pats from passers-by and hang out in the shade while you enjoy a drink and a meal. We’re all about celebrating life with our besties and that definitely includes our doggos!

5. THE FUN KEEPS FLOWING

The newly renovated beer garden is the ultimate summer base, with a big screen playing the big games, an open-air roof to make the most of cool breezes, umbrellas to shield you from the sun, and the best part — the Mr Yum app so you can view the menu and order snacks, meals and drinks right from the table with just a few taps.

After a freezing winter, it’s time to embrace the warmer weather and make the most of the summer vibes — and we can’t think of a better place to do that than the Brighton Metro Hotel.

Unexpectedly local

There are CIBO Espresso stores all over Adelaide, so you’re guaranteed to find your favourite coffee whenever you need it!

When you hail from the City of Churches, it feels like CIBO has always been there — like an old friend. But you could be forgiven for thinking it’s a national chain because there seems to be a CIBO Espresso around every corner and in every shopping mall, with that bright red signage and familiarity, no matter which one you’re at.

In reality, you’ll only find CIBO in SA, and all 24 stores are owned and run by South Australians. Maybe that’s why so many people go there — to support local? Or, is it because the coffee is so damned good, and you won’t get another one like it anywhere else?

IT’S THE SAME QUALITY CUP OF COFFEE.

EVERY.SINGLE. TIME.

That’s no exaggeration. The coffee at CIBO Espresso is found exclusively in these exceptional local coffee houses — nowhere else. D’Angelo Coffee in Thebarton has been supplying CIBO Espresso since day dot. Their unique blend of coffee was created for the flagship store on the corner of Rundle Street and Frome Road in the city back in 2000; meaning it was created for South Australians, just like fritz, Crows’ Footy Milk, Haigh’s Chocolates and the infamous Pie Floater.

D’Angelo Coffee’s special blend for CIBO comes from not one, but three different flavour profiles found across New Guinea, Ethiopia and Indonesia. As it lands in South Australia, each batch of coffee beans is roasted separately, before being blended with precision to ensure it’s the same quality cup of coffee. Every. Single. Time.

We’re not talking about estimations. The signature coffee blend for CIBO Espresso is done according to the recipe perfected many years ago, and is something Croweaters quickly loved because of that full-bodied flavour and reliability, no matter which store you order from. “We

blend the three after roasting to make sure the coffee is the same high quality in each store,” says Tony D’Angelo, Head Roaster for D’Angelo Coffee. CIBO barista training includes a compulsory class at D'Angelo Coffee. Tony also has ongoing dialogue with the baristas at store level to ensure quality and consistency.

No doubt about it, South Australians are familiar with the bright red signage and everything that comes with it: 1) Expert knowledge about real coffee; 2) Toasted banana bread, croissants, chocolate and vanilla custard cannoli; 3) Take-home bags of CIBO beans, ground coffee and pods for their machines at home.

Keep an eye out for the bright red signage all over Adelaide. Molto bene!

Gin’s trending. Big time.

Know what you like but aren’t sure why you like it? If that sounds like you, your answers lie right in the heart of the city, at the home of one of Australia’s most awarded distilleries — Prohibition Liquor Co. What’s fast becoming everybody’s favourite tipple can be enjoyed yearround; with the warmer months the perfect time for a refreshing “shower in a glass”.

The name’s a throwback to the way of the world in the 1920s. Nearly 100 years later, what started as a side-hustle in 2015 for Wes Heddles and Adam Carpenter in a backyard garage, went from small-batch craft gin distillery to taking the world by storm. A truck full of international gin and spirits awards in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas and London created serious demand for their product — and in turn, an urgent need to upsize from their garage to a commercial site on Gilbert Street.

THE TASTING ROOM MENU IS THE PERFECT PAIRING, FEATURING SLIDERS, TOASTIES, CHEESE PLATTERS, ANTIPASTO, TAPAS AND MORE.

“Now, it’s a city-based distillery that you can visit and get to know everything there is to know about gin,” says Adam.

Gilbert Street has become a destination for people wanting something different.

“It’s a great little community, and we have a lot of first-name conversations,” says Wes. But don’t start picturing an episode of Cheers, with only the occasional new face walking in the door. They host weddings, cocktail classes, gin masterclasses, painting classes, gin blending classes, gin and yoga classes, and even ping pong tournaments where members can fight it out for a bottle of top-shelf Prohibition Gin. They also do gin flights and masterclasses aboard the

iconic Popeye on the River Torrens over summer. Now, there’s an idea for a staff catch-up or end-of-year party!

The cafe attracts people earlier in the day, when the distillery and tasting room aren’t open. A tasty menu of light bites accompanies your coffee and, of course, your gin. Think pastries, croissants, cakes or sweet treats, salads and sandwiches.

And when the tasting room opens, staff can walk you through the history of the gin, the botanicals and how to garnish them all — from their classic Bathtub Cut Gin, Shiraz Barrel Aged Gin, Navy Strength and brand-new Juniperus; to their dark pink Moonlight Gin, and the vibrant Blood Orange Gin and Blood Orange Cello featuring fresh juice that goes from Loxton orchard to bottle in four days flat! The tasting room menu is the perfect pairing, featuring sliders, toasties, cheese platters, antipasto, tapas and more.

“It’s an education centre, and not just for our gin, but for gin in general,” says Wes. You can book any of their distillery experiences via the website.

Betcha didn’t know this… just around the corner from Marion Shopping Centre is Adelaide’s only remaining 100 percent family-owned, fully operational urban winery!

Patritti Wines is tucked away on a residential street in Dover Gardens, and it’s quite possible you didn’t even know it was there. Making wine since 1926, it’s an SA winery steeped in family history. There are a gazillion reasons to visit, but we don’t have all year, so here are our top six…

1. One of a kind

Patritti started almost one hundred years ago by Giovanni Patritti, and remains Adelaide’s only 100 percent familyowned, fully operational suburban winery, with third-generation Senior Winemaker James Mungall carrying on the family tradition. “I started helping out in the winery around the time I learned to walk and have worked in my family’s business ever since,” smiles James.

“My grandpa, Giovanni, boarded a boat in 1925 and ended up on this piece of dirt here in Dover Gardens. Back then, it was all about growing veggies and selling pigs — and like in his

homeland, he started to make wine. As more immigrants arrived in Australia over the next 30 years, the wine really flourished and he started selling it to Europeans all over Australia.”

2. Grape to glass

Literally! Patritti grow their own grapes, then crush and process their wine, all at the Dover Gardens winery. It’s bottled and packaged up beautifully, and from there, your order is shipped straight to your front door or cracked open for you in their gorgeous cellar door.

“Within hours of the fruit being picked, it’s back here at our Dover Gardens facility being crushed — it’s literally that quick,” says James. How’s that for a schmick process?

- 68 DRINK: PATRITTI WINES

3. Taste with a twist

To get the full Patritti experience, we recommend booking a tasting flight on site. “We make over 30 wines, including sparkling, white and red; and we want our guests having a tasting to feel the authenticity of our brand. Everyone that does the Urban Vineyard Collection Tasting Experience gets a fun pictorial map of the local area — a postcard you can take away with you.”

Between the historic vats in Cellar II, you and your friends can try their magnificent wines — served best with an Italian-style antipasto platter.

4. TGIF

Set your alarm for knock-offs at Cellar II!

The Miami kinda vibe, food trucks and live music will set your weekend off a treat. “We welcome you into our family home, where there’s great food and wine by the glass,” says James.

The feel-goods continue with a more family-friendly atmosphere on a Saturday or Sunday. The grounds are perfect for sips and giggles with a glass of Patritti and a side of antipasto.

5. V.no

Way ahead of its time, Patritti has been making non-alcoholic juices for decades and now, they have a range of alcoholremoved wines. “With the V.no range, we make wine just like normal, and then take the alcohol out and blend that wine back up and get it ready to bottle. So, it's a real wine with alcohol removed,” says Winemaker Ben Heide.

6. In da club

Say hello to your new friends, Club. 1926. If you love wine and you’re over

18, then welcome to the club. Members get access to special discounts on wine orders and packs, complimentary tastings for you and three friends (twice a year), and an invitation to their annual 1926 Vintage event.

Open every day, Patritti Wines is the place to be any day of the week!

Wine without borders

We sure enjoy a wine or two, but we’re no experts — we just know what we like! And boy, do we love what comes out of Limestone Coast’s Wangolina, headed up by wine guru Anita Goode.

Apart from feeling out of our depth when chatting to a sommelier, delving into a new variety leaves our heads spinning. That’s what Anita and her team are determined to flip on its head, making it more interesting and less daunting to branch out from your regular vino order.

“Our big focus over the last few years has been growing more small parcels of rare things — and we’re now proudly the leading producer of alternate varieties on the Limestone Coast. It’s more making wine from passion, rather than following a recipe — it’s having a play around to create something more interesting, and our focus is on wines made outside our region or South Australia,” Anita says.

She’s well aware that it can be tricky to deviate from what you know, so Anita gave us a little crash course on her latest alternative varieties…

Wangolina Grüner Veltliner

The OG of Anita’s alternate varieties, it’s the only Grüner Veltliner made on the Limestone Coast.

International trivia: Austria’s most popular white wine.

Tastes like: A savoury type of wine that’s like a cross between the bright freshness of a Riesling and the texture of a Pinot Gris.

Drink with: Chicken and a bit of spice.

Malvasia Istriana

This crisp, lighter feeling wine retains its natural acidity and benefits from minimal intervention.

International trivia: Originally from Friuli and Slovenia.

Tastes like: This one’s exotic and versatile, with fruit and interest on the palate. Drink with: Fish pie.

Stay tuned as they continue to expand their (and your!) horizons with several other alternate varieties in the works.

And if that’s all too much, Anita encourages you just to take a punt and have fun! “At the end of the day, it’s about sitting around with a bunch of friends, enjoying each other’s company and sharing a wine that will complement that moment. When that comes together, it’s the best part of life and exactly what we think about putting into every bottle!”

When you head to Wangolina’s awardwinning cellar door, the crew is excited to run through a tasting and chat wine with you, no matter how in depth (or not) you want to go! “We think of ourselves as a casual and welcoming cellar door. We want you to explore, enjoy and ask all the questions. As long as you’re smiling and loving the experience, that’s as fancy as we need it to get!”

Perfect partner

distilleries and breweries to explore. We just want to make it accessible for others to share our incredible community,” Paul says. Here’s what’s on the cards…

Designated driver

With over 80 cellar doors, distilleries and breweries, the Fleurieu Peninsula is a mecca for good times. We’ve all done the wine tours on a grander scale or drawn reluctant straws for designated driver, but an affordable option for small groups has us giddy with excitement.

Partner N Wine is a new tour group by Moana couple Sarah Hughes and Paul Bidmeade, offering flexible tours for up to seven guests from as little as $35 per person. Get ready to make unforgettable memories with McLaren Vale wine tastings, lunch or day trips made easy. “We’re in love with where we live — there are so many great local wineries,

You’ve planned a day of wine tastings (and maybe a little lunch) in McLaren Vale, but you’ve lost rock, paper, scissors, and now you’re driving. Say hello to the eighth member of your group and the one to take the pressure down — the Designated Driver! This option gives you return transport for four to seven peeps, so you can visit up to four venues for as little as $35 per person. The peace of mind in itself is worth every penny.

“This is a goodie, especially if you’re on a budget! You pay your own tasting fees at up to four wineries, and either pay as you go at a lunch stop or BYO the goods and we’ll take you to a top spot for a picnic,” says Paul.

Event planner

Sometimes you need someone to take the reins! The Event Planner includes return transport, tastings at three venues, and pizza or platters for $150 per head. It can be catered to your fave drops; and best of all, you can just take your lover, your bestie or up to six others. It’s great value and a stress-free way to explore!

The transporter

It can also be as easy as needing a set of wheels to get you where you’re going. Partner N Wine also offers a cost-effective alternative for trips for up to seven people travelling between McLaren Vale and Adelaide. It’s a great option for airport transfers, wedding guest shuttle runs, access to the footy and cricket from down south, and more.

Next time you’re tossing up whether to do tastings at Oliver’s Taranga, SC Pannell, Samuel’s Gorge; maybe Smiling Samoyed, Swell Brewery or Kick Back in Aldinga; or perhaps you’ve got the taste for a couple of cheeky gins at Never Never or Ginny Pig, grab yourself a partner who’ll make it a day to remember. You’re never fully dressed without a frame!

A good piece of art is meant to last forever and when framed correctly, it should survive a lifetime. Parkside’s Frame Works Plus Gifts knows that the best way to share your treasured piece is by putting it on display — and picking the right frame can make all the difference.

Passionate about supporting her local community, owner Amelita knows her custom-framing business is a bit left of

centre. “We’ve purposely created a space where the lighting reflects what a real home is like, not an art gallery, so people can actually see what their special piece will look like in their own homes.” Whether it’s framing a photograph, a piece of art, a certificate or something special, believe me, you're in the best hands at Frame Works Plus Gifts.

Guests are encouraged to stay and play around with different colours and frames to make sure they find the perfect fit for their masterpiece. “We have access to more than 4,000 frames, with the most popular being black, white or oak. And if you want something really unique, I’m all for that!”

An artist herself, Amelita is delighted to also support not only local creatives, but another very special kind of person, too! “We have so many women who want to do something a bit different and make their mark. They come in with pieces they have painted themself or bought from their favourite artist, and they get so excited seeing it fully dressed.”

Amelita is much like an original abstract painting herself — she’s bright, bold and

has a story to tell. “It’s taken me a long time to find a life that’s full of colour, and I feel so lucky to be where I am now. I’m supported by my amazing business partner, Sergey, who is incredibly talented — and his attention to detail on every frame is phenomenal!”

And you really do feel that warmth and genuine care as soon as you walk in.

“My favourite part of what we do is our old fashioned big reveal. Guests close their eyes and we display their framed work on the table for them to see. Some people even cry, overcome with emotion! That’s why we love what we do so much.”

Mums and daughters, brides and bridesmaids, boyfriends, girlfriends and best friends are flocking to Class A Jewellers to bond in a totally unique way. This family-owned and run jeweller in Walkerville has 50 big years under their belt and your celebrations of love down to a fine art!

As the go-to destination when proposals are on the cards, Class A Jewellers knows the importance of getting it right with their custom designed engagement rings, wedding rings and meaningful keepsakes. Their latest offering, a jewellery soldering service called Linked for Life, is new to SA and

LET’S GET ROMANTIC

This local biz turned 50 on Valentine’s Day this year, and the story behind it all is laced with love. “In 1984, I was just 15-years-old when my friend Julie’s dad, Frank Hayter, offered me a job at his jewellery store in Walkerville. About a year later, Julie and I started dating… fast forward to today and we have two of our boys working here, another running Yolk cafe next door and one more at school,” says Brad.

Brad’s pride in purchasing the business when Frank retired 18 years ago is palpable. “‘We love helping people from all over Adelaide, Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula — even some who’ve relocated interstate or overseas. We want every person to feel great about what they get and not feel any pressure along the way.”

been tempted to get a tattoo but scared of permanent ink? You need to know about Linked for Life!
WORDS Em Worthington PHOTOS Wayne Pearson Photo: Supplied.

AS THE GO-TO DESTINATION WHEN PROPOSALS ARE ON THE CARDS, CLASS A JEWELLERS KNOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF GETTING IT RIGHT.

Lauren and her mum jumped right in. “Mum got the Starlight Trio bracelet in yellow gold and I got white gold. It has three diamonds to represent Mama Jules, baby Sofia and I together for life!”

“Our jewellers seamlessly solder a bracelet or anklet directly onto you for the perfect fit, so you’re always linked. There’s no clasp and it will stay on forever or until you decide you don’t want it anymore. It’s less risky than a tattoo, but it symbolises a special moment or person in your life. You can even go solo to celebrate an achievement!” says owner and Managing Director Brad Mucklow.

LET’S TALK FOREVER

With one of Adelaide’s biggest on-site workshops and a team of highly qualified and experienced staff, Class A makes hearts flutter. “Our jewellers hand make each piece or use the same state-of-

the art technology as the world's finest jewellery houses. You can watch them at work and see pieces come to life — it’s a real art form! Every piece is personalised, not something out of the box; and you can be part of the whole process, which adds to the story,” Brad explains.

Another thing setting Class A apart is their Ring Bench! It has over 400 different designs that you can try, without the pressure of a salesperson hovering. But when you do want help, the friendly team walks you through pricing and customising to your style and budget. They also have two benches of men’s rings and unisex wedding bands with varying patterns, finishes, widths and colours.

TAKE IT FROM TOM

Our Tom Rehn knows well that Class A Jewellers is in a league of their own. “My Grandma, Shirley, started going to Class A many years ago and since then, generations have followed. The team is exceptional at helping people like me (who have no idea about jewellery) to make meaningful choices,” Tom says.

“On my twenty-first birthday, Grandma gave me a ring from there — I still wear it every day. I didn’t know what to get when I proposed to Sara, but I knew exactly where to go. The Class A team made her rings (which were spot on) and even remodelled my dad’s ring to fit me. Since then, I’ve bought anniversary earrings and birthday presents, and we love popping in to see the team every time they clean or polish each piece. It’s an incredible family business filled with people who make you feel like friends every time you visit!”

Bigger and better

The queen of big boobs has moved into her new digs, and it’s twice as nice!

Our go-to expert in all things boobs, Alexandra Vaissière of Alexandra Lingerie, has been very busy over the last year. You’ll still find her in the Adelaide Arcade, but now, she’s in a space that’s twice as big. You know what that means — a bigger range of beautifully supportive bras in sizes D all the way through to K!

For our curvier Pineapples, this store is an absolute godsend with their huge selection of lacy and racy bras and bodysuits (wink wink), sports bras, everyday t-shirt bras and bathers. And, if you’re glancing down at your chest thinking, “My boobs aren’t big enough,” you might be surprised!

“A lot of women who think they're smaller than a D haven’t actually been properly measured and are wearing the wrong size — that’s why we invite everyone into our store, so we can make sure you’re in the most supportive bra,” smiles Alexandra.

And it’s not just the store that continues to expand — Alexandra is sharing her expertise with newly welcomed team members. There are now multiple fitters available at any time (each with the knack of putting you at ease while they fit you up), and much larger fitting rooms to make it a comfy experience all round. For mamas juggling a pram and a new cup size, there’s also a double fitting room so you can spread out.

Alexandra carries a huge range of styles and brands because she knows that just as every pair of boobs is different, so is

everyone's personal style. “I haven’t met a pair of boobs I couldn’t fit, and if I don’t have your size, I can order it in from the best luxury European brands — simple! I love helping women to feel glamorous, beautiful and strong. This work truly lights me up,” Alexandra says, shining.

We’ve all fallen for the fastfashion thing, but with more mature eyes on quality over quantity, we’re turning to beauties like Amber Jasmine.

This SA business offers casualwear, activewear and dresses with a difference. Designer and owner Ali Akbar is focused on ethical labour and sustainability, which also means incredible quality for us! From sketching to design, patterns, fitting, sampling and overseeing production, Ali is as hands-on as it gets with each creation. The father of five picked his two oldest daughters’ middle names for the brand — putting the fam in family-owned.

Here are five things you should know about one of Adelaide’s loveliest new brands…

1. SUSTAINABLE IS FASHIONABLE

The beauty of Amber Jasmine is that Ali only uses high-quality fabric in every pair of seamless leggings, sports bras, raglan jumpers, fitted or relaxed joggers. “Our Selene range of ribbed casualwear is incredibly comfortable and breathable, making it good for hot or cold weather,” Ali says.

CASUALWEAR, ACTIVEWEAR AND DRESSES WITH A DIFFERENCE.

And they’re comparatively less expensive than some of the big names in activewear. “A lot of work goes into each piece. We keep production quantities low, so you won’t see everyone else wearing it and we’re not mass-producing or ending up with wasted stock,” Ali says.

2. PEOPLE ARE KING

It’s important to know how things are made and Ali’s all about the people behind his clothes. “We’re in control of everything, and while some of the production happens overseas, I only use close contacts, so I know exactly where the fabric is from, what’s happening with the production and that it’s all being done ethically.”

3. PICK YOUR VIBE

Hot pink, sunset peach, burnt orange, raspberry, bubble gum, lavender, merlot… that’s just a taste of some of the deliciousness on offer. “We’ve got plenty of vibrant and more muted colours, so it appeals to both young and old,” Ali says.

4. NO OSFA

We proudly celebrate all body shapes and sizes, and we love brands that do the same! Amber Jasmine’s outfits range from size XS to XXL and a perk of being hands-on with production means they can even make garments to order.

5. BIGGER PICTURE

When Ali came as a refugee from Afghanistan at just 14, he knew he wanted to embrace a creative career. “I got into fashion at a young age, listening to my mum and sisters talk about styles, fabrics, trends. Mum was a good tailor and I learnt from friends about the technical side.”

He also wanted to ensure his business would give back. “Buying from us, you’re contributing to a small, local business, but our profits also help people in need in Afghanistan and Pakistan,” Ali says.

You can check out the Amber Jasmine range online, and keep your eyes peeled for a bricks and mortar store soon. A purchase from here will leave you feeling great, well after the shopping buzz has worn off.

Our skin queen Rose has a whole lot of new going on at Elixir Skin Fitness.

For some reason, trusting people with our beauty needs is next level — it’s like we’re putting our lives in their hands. Elixir’s founder and Dermal Therapist Rose Bonasera is our go-to beauty guru, so when she said she’d get our skin match-fit for our latest event, we knew we were in the safest hands. Better still, it gave us an excuse to test-drive and learn about some of the brand new, state-of-the-art technology that Rose has introduced to Elixir’s offerings. Because we’ve never been ones to gatekeep the goods, here’s what’s waiting for you behind Elixir’s chic doors…

A NEW SKIN SOLUTION

You may be familiar with the recently launched product range and treatments from Biologique Recherche. What you

may not know is that Elixir delivers these products now as part of their service, and it’s the only place you’ll find them in SA! It’s celebrity endorsed and loved, and we’ve heard good things about this range.

Across more than four decades, French brand Biologique Recherche has been designed with each of us in mind — differences and all. They offer concentrated solutions, made using a cold process that protects the raw ingredients, which leaves them high in all things good for the skin, like vitamins and minerals. The best bit is that the product range has been tailored to help unique skin challenges, so we can all get that shiny, new feeling.

- 84 STYLE: ELIXIR SKIN FITNESS
“WE TAKE AN OUT-OFTHE-BOX APPROACH AT ELIXIR BECAUSE THE SKIN’S CONDITION IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING, AND WE NEED TO ADAPT WITH IT.”

AN ELIXIR EXPERIENCE REMINDS YOU THAT TAKING SOME TIME TO INDULGE CAN LEAVE YOU FEELING GREAT ON MANY LEVELS.

A WARM WELCOME

In the luxury of their brand-new consulting space, Rose and her team ensure your experience is as unique as you are. Using their high-tech Biologique Recherche skin analysis system, the Skin Instant Lab, they’ll get a feel for your skin and guide you on getting the most from your time with Elixir.

Rose is conscious that no two clients’ skin is alike. “We take an out-of-the-box approach at Elixir because the skin’s condition is constantly changing, and we need to adapt with it.” The Skin Instant Lab feels like the perfect combination of a clinical and personal skincare treatment, helping to identify those external factors that wreak havoc on our skin, like the weather and pollution.

If you want to feel super spesh for your next important event — brides, we’re looking at you! — Rose has dished out a few tips…

GET EVENT READY

1. Time

Get started earlier to ensure you have enough time for the correct treatment plan. In a perfect world, starting treatments a minimum of one year prior helps to create sustainable change.

2. An inside out approach

A holistic approach will see the best results. Take diet, lifestyle, ingestibles and gut health into consideration, in conjunction with skincare products and dermal therapy procedures.

3. Reduce stress

The anticipation and build-up to an event, such as a wedding, can induce quite a lot of stress and anxiety. Focus on self-care, like mindfulness, meditation, adequate sleep, exercise, lifestyle and alone-time in the lead up to the event to help reduce the stress response on the body and the skin. “Bringing the body back to a place of balance supports the skin treatment plans,” says Rose.

An Elixir experience reminds you that taking some time to indulge can leave you feeling great on many levels.

Get organised

There comes a day when you’re excited by a good vacuum and an empty washing basket. Excitement has a new name — organisation!

It’s a rite of passage. Once you find yourself bingeing The Home Edit and Marie Kondo, you know you’ve hit peak adulthood — and there’s so much to embrace. Everyday little things have you giggling like a schoolgirl, and then you discover Howards Storage World Mile End, with all its clever and quirky products, and it’s go time, baby!

You walk in not really needing anything, and walk out wondering how you lived without the products you’ve found. With over 4,000 items instore, their range of top-quality organisational products will streamline any area of your home, with

everything from food storage to the kit to fit out a wardrobe or wine cellar. Touché!

Imagine a knife that cuts tomatoes with precision and never squishes them. A peg basket that keeps pegs dry, suction bathroom caddies that stay stuck, a motion sensor bin (so you don’t have to touch any grossness), storage containers to sort everything from hair bands to mapping out the most handsome pantry you’ve ever laid eyes on, or a spin-mop that gets you in a frenzy about cleaning day! Yep, this is the stuff that excites me these days (and just a few of my recent purchases). I’m totally geeking out over the gadgets

Problem solved!

Can’t store all your shoes or handbags? Wasting money on takeout when you’ve got a full pantry but can’t see what’s what? The Howards crew is all about helping you to find solutions.

“Our team is super experienced — many have been with us for over 10 years — so they’ve seen or heard just about everything!

If there’s not an off-the-shelf solution, they can think outside the box and creatively solve your storage issues. And you can DIY, or we can install it for you.”

Owned and operated by Dave and Briar Strutton for 15 years, the Mile End store has won Howards’ Franchise Store of the Year three times — so congrats, SA, on being the most organised bunch in the nation! They even have a range of products you’ll see on Netflix’s hit show, The Home Edit.

“We use heaps of the products in our own home, so we can genuinely talk about them. Our flagship range from elfa (a Swedish shelving system) is in just about every room in our house. It can be used to fit out a single drawer to an entire wardrobe, is flexible and adaptable (and can even be taken with you if you move), requires minimal fixing to the wall, is easy to install and the quality is guaranteed,” Briar says.

Baby, work it!

GADGETS THAT HELP THE DAILY GRIND RUN SMOOTHLY AND ALLEVIATE THE STRESS OF A MESSY ABODE.

Between kids, work, friends and fun, life is hectic. Howards Storage World makes sure you can maximise the hours in a day! It can feel shameful to admit, but even the most meticulous of us could use a few hints on running a tighter ship. Becoming a Howards member (it’s free, BTW), gets you invited to VIP and Christmas shopping events and monthly workshops, where you get the scoop on sorting out problem areas in your home or office.

There are workshops on organising your kitchen, wardrobe, shed and garage, and the uber popular Downsizing and Decluttering Workshop. For $20, you get two hours of life-changing advice (plus $20 to redeem instore, a goody bag and tips and tricks to take home).

“Our workshops are about making life easier with a calm and organised space, so you can feel good internally. Decluttering can be quite therapeutic, and sometimes you don’t realise the emotional burden that things have on you until you learn how to consciously choose what you surround yourself with. There’s so much to learn about getting the most from a space and making it right for you. We present different ways of looking at your possessions, and most importantly, how to responsibly let go of things that you no longer love or need.”

Go on! Get on the ultra-organised train at Howards — it’s like the adults’ version of Disneyland and we’re ready to ride!

WORDS

When you find the right hairdresser, you’ll never go through a salon break-up!

Sueño Hair might be your forever person. With earthy tones and highend finishings, the European-inspired salon decor is super cool yet refreshly non-pretentious — in fact, it’s quite the opposite.

“People always feel a sense of warmth and calm when they step inside our salon for the first time. I think it’s a mix of our natural colour scheme and also the fact that we all get along so well — there are genuine good vibes here,” says co-owner Lia. And she’s right, everyone is made to feel like Aphrodite!

Husband and wife owners Lia and Jim Kefalianos have been in the hair biz for twelve years; and like perfect mentors, they've passed their skills onto their staff. “We have nine hairdressers and three apprentices, who are all excellent hairdressers, and they fully embrace our unique ethos,” says Jim.

Whether you’re coming in for a cut, colour or blow-dry, you can expect the most luscious locks and the ultimate pampering session where you’ll find yourself questioning, “Am I in a day spa or a hair salon?”

Herbal tea or almond latte? They’re tough decisions as you’re elevated to a place of pure zen — there’s meditation music in the background and your massage chair is switched on, then eye masks are offered to sweeten the experience.

Sueño is fully committed to reducing waste and only uses green haircare. “We’re a sustainable salon that’s proudly eco-friendly and chemical-free! All the brands we use are low tox, PPD free, with low ammonia and no sulphate — even our tea bags are sustainable!” And the salon is almost neutral when it comes to

their power bill (which is insane for such a busy space), thanks to the concrete floors, industrial glass windows and 30-kilowatt solar panels.

I was super impressed by their recycling method, too. Ninety-eight percent of their wastage is fully recycled — even the snipped-off hair becomes hair booms, which are used to soak up crude oil out at sea. “Most people don't know that hair is an environmentally-friendly resource that can absorb around five times its weight in oil,” says Jim.

So, if you’re passionate about the planet, why compromise when it comes to visiting your hairdresser? It’s important to know what you’re putting on your scalp, and at Sueño, you know it’s ALL good.

And that's all the boxes ticked for our new love interest!

I can’t get enough of the creations from Winestains, and a rustic cheeseboard is coming home with me today. Their picnic and platter magic is handcrafted in the Barossa, using recycled wine barrels — so, let’s graze!

I’ll admit I’m a crazy plant lady, but I’ve had a few watering casualties. That’s where Wohlers’ artificial plant range is ah-maze! I grabbed these Dried Peony Hydrangeas to brighten up my coffee table — they’re fuss-free and are a great deco if you have anyone with allergies at home.

OMG, I can already hear Sofia squealing with delight over these squishy friends from Jiggle & Giggle! I mean, who doesn’t need a pet leopard and a fluffy alpaca in their life? So cute, I can’t wait to see her face!

I sat down to test out the IMG Portsea Corner Modular, and I never want to get up again. Wohlers’ huge range comes in heaps of styles, colours and most can be configured to suit your space. The couch I found is super comfy, looks great and will be easy to wipe over should any small person get to it with crayons or mashed banana hands.

We’re all shopped up, ready to intro these pieces to their new homes… and convince our significant others that these were, in fact, necessary purchases. Thanks, Wohlers!

Why smell like someone else when you can smell like YOU.

There is so much power in smell.

Just a tiny whiff of a particular scent and you can be transported back to a day gone by. Elke Weeks has harnessed this sensory magic and turned it into a DIY candle and perfume studio in Kensington — introducing Red Rosie Scent Design Studio.

“I’m fascinated by the connection between scent, memories and emotions. Helping people to create a unique fragrance that makes them happy isn’t work for me — it’s a pleasure,” Elke beams.

Elke’s vibrant studio is filled with every scent you could dream of, and it’s open for anyone and everyone (beginners included!) to spend an hour or two creating their ideal perfume or candle. She’ll step you through the process and a little of the science behind it, and the rest is up to you — so, get creative!

A SPRITZ HERE, A SPRAY THERE

Perfume has the power to leave a mark on the people around you — so make it a good one! The perfume workshop takes around two-and-a-half hours to complete and is a more intense and comprehensive

session — but with a complimentary glass of bubbles to sip on, the time will fly by. You’ll leave with a lot more info about the art of perfume than you walked in with!

Elke will offer advice throughout the class and has carefully labelled all the scents under different perfume families, making it simple to distinguish between top, middle and base notes, and natural and manufactured materials. Anyone can take part, with aftershave on offer too — just start simple, then build your fragrance into something dreamy.

BURN IT UP

Your home is a reflection of you, so of course you want it to smell as delightful as you do! The candle workshops are all about having fun and experimenting, with 48 scents to mix and sniff until you find the perfect blend.

This class takes about an hour to complete, with a glass of bubbles thrown in for good measure, and by the end, you’ll have your very own candle waiting for collection.

IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS

The little things make all the difference, and Elke has thought of them all! “Once you’ve created your candle or perfume, we record it for you in your own file — so when you run out, you can reorder and we’ll have it waiting for you to collect with your very own personalised label,” Elke says.

MAKE IT A GROUP HANG

Red Rosie Studio is open for anyone to book — so you can go solo, or take one or two friends. Or, in a fun twist, you can also book up to 24 people for a candle workshop, complete with champagne. Sounds like the perfect birthday or hen’s party to me! These workshops are also a great way to get your work team together for a midweek team building sesh.

You know what you like better than anyone else on the planet — so, use that power and create something that makes your day with every sniff.

Specialising in boho coastal vibes, Pebble & Palm is rewriting the way you style your spaces. On Sturt Road in Warradale, this store is brimming with beautiful furniture, homewares, decor, fashion and accessories. But more than that, you’ll find a unique opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade.

“Shopping with us is like a warm hug! We don’t want you just to walk in and buy a cushion — it’s more of a personalised experience where our team will help you find statement pieces and everyday gems to blend with your treasured pieces,” says Amanda Ewbank, Interior Designer and owner of Pebble & Palm.

“But the game changer is that we also run interior styling workshops, so you can learn the tips that designers use to create gorgeous spaces and apply them in your own home,” Amanda explains.

These super fun monthly styling workshops are more of a night out than

a classroom feel, with wine, cheese and plenty of banter rolled in. “We chat through styling, provide you with materials to create your own mood board and mull over any areas you need help with. You can bring in photos of spaces you’d like tips on, plus, you get a voucher so you can take home some new goodies,” Amanda says.

And when it comes to what’s hot, Amanda has one rule. “We don’t talk about following trends — we have a much more relaxed approach to style and we love helping you to find yours. Your space is an extension of you, so we help you apply some tricks to make the home or office uniquely yours.”

Amanda and her team are huge supporters of local creatives, with South Australian makers and artists lining the shelves. “We’re so proud to help support other small business owners, especially when they’re so talented! We offer carefully chosen pieces, like handmade clay

earrings from Island Home Living, sweet scents from Nomad Candle Co., luscious body care from al.ive, organic bath soaks from Nature Folk, incredible prints from Ella Designs and so much more!”

We’ve been everywhere, man!

You may have seen us around town.

Our job takes us all over South Australia, and with three children between us who sometimes come along for the ride, safety is our number one priority! BMW’s Frontal Collision Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and BMW Assist eCall™ give us peace of mind when travelling long distances.

This summer, pack the car and say hello to SA, like we do. Here are some of our favourite spots we’ve visited this year…

North Beach, Wallaroo

It’s one of the only remaining beaches in SA where you can drive your car onto the sand, so it helps when your car has a big booty! The X3 has a 550L luggage capacity, the X4 has 525L, X5 has 650L and X7 offers a whopping 750L — which means you can fit all the towels, snorkels, boogie boards and sun shades in the boot, ready for a day out on this spectacular two-kilometre stretch of coastline.

Maxwells Wines, McLaren Vale

For a picturesque driving experience that’s close to home, you can’t go past the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale wine regions. Winding your way through Stirling, Meadows and Willunga, you’ll end up at this five-star winery and restaurant on top of the hill in the Vale. And for extra safety on those country roads, these BMWs have a Heads Up display, which means you never have to take your eyes off the road.

Atlantis, Port Elliot

Just an hour from Adelaide, Atlantis is a few steps from Horseshoe Bay and all the best Port Elliot shops! It has four bedrooms (sleeping ten people), and offers everything for the best home-awayfrom-home holiday — summer or winter! With off-road parking and a giant garage, the whole fam is sorted. And just for fun on Port Elliot’s main street, try the BMW Parking Assistant Plus, where the car parks itself for you — it’s a thrill!

Emu Bay, Kangaroo Island

Driving yourself on holiday gives you the freedom to always be in control and there's no waiting around for tour groups

or taxis. Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third largest island, so a car is essential if you want to see as much as possible. And don’t worry about getting lost, The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with navigation function has always got us from A to B without a worry.

Alkina Luxury Accommodation, Barossa

Who’d have thought Adelaide BMW’s electric iX, iX3 and i4 could get you to the Barossa and back in one charge? A great way to care for the environment, you can charge her up at home overnight. Our fully-charged iX40 meant we had 420 kilometres of freedom, so naturally, we beelined for Alkina’s luxury accommodation in the heart of the Barossa Valley and back again — with kilometres to spare.
