Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County opens new site at Desert Sage Elementary School
Families in Southwest Boise now have a new after school option for their kids with the opening of our newest site at Desert Sage Elementary School. The Desert Sage Unit opened on June 3rd with high-quality summer services. The popularity of the program was evident pretty quickly, as the Club filled up with 173 new members before the doors even opened. Year-round afterschool programs will begin with the start of the new school year on August 26th. “The Desert Sage Elementary School leadership team recognized the need for after school programs for busy working families and thought the Boys & Girls Club was a perfect solution,” said Executive Director Colleen Braga. “Our ultimate goal is to make sure that all kids in Ada County have a safe and affordable place for their children to go during non-school hours.” The Desert Sage Unit represents the third year-round school-based site offered by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County. The other two are located at Ross Elementary School in Kuna and at Peregrine Elementary School in Meridian. The Club runs an additional summer site at Hawthorne Elementary School in Boise.

Together we accomplish so much more than we could on our own.” Partnerships with schools rely on shared facilities and an emphasis on a holistic approach to serving kids. The arrangement also taps into a new growth and mission model for the Boys & Girls Club, which can be replicated and shared with other schools who are interested in starting a Club at their school. The Desert Sage Unit will offer a variety of programs including homework help, sports, outside and organized play, healthy lifestyle programs, art programs, service opportunities and more.
