Née en 1979, Minh Tran Huy est critique littéraire et écrivain. Après La Princesse et le Pêcheur (Actes Sud, 2007), La Double Vie d’Anna Song (Actes Sud, 2009 ; prix Drouot 2010, prix Pelléas 2010) et Voyageur malgré lui (Flammarion, 2014), elle signe avec Les Inconsolés son quatrième roman.

Pur produit de la méritocratie républicaine et incarnation en mouvement du transfuge de classe, Lise surpasse des origines sociales métisses et modestes pour entrer à l’école qui doit lui ouvrir l’accès à tous les possibles. Or la jeune fille a l’âme romanesque et ne croit qu’à la fiction, qui cristallise tous les refuges et recèle toutes les lois de l’expérience humaine. Aussi le premier regard échangé avec Louis estil le coup d’envoi d’une histoire à laquelle elle se soumet à cœur perdu.

Fils de la grande bourgeoisie, beau et ambitieux, Louis porte haut son héritage familial et social et avance confiant sur la voie tracée pour lui, séduit par le charme fantasque de Lise. Leur histoire se déroule comme dans un conte, rapidement minée par la lancinante et tenace petite musique de l’enfance mal aimée, le refrain des rapprochements impossibles, des différences infranchissables. Bientôt la nuit des malédictions envahit le rose bonbon des rêveries romantiques.

A product of the grande bourgeoisie, the handsome and ambitious Louis wears his family and social heritage proudly, and confidently follows the path traced out for him in life, seduced by the capricious charms of Lise.

The affair initially plays out like a fairy tale but is soon undermined by the nagging and tenacious background music of emotionally starved childhoods and the refrain of impossible rapprochements and insuperable differences. And soon enough, dark clouds descend on their romantic idyll. M R V
