JeanMichel Espitallier est écrivain, poète, musicien. Il est l’auteur d’une vingtaine de livres, dont La Première Année, paru aux éditions Inculte en 2018, qui a reçu un très bel accueil critique. Il travaille parallèlement sur plusieurs projets multimédias, notamment avec la chorégraphe Valeria Giuga et le duo de musique électroacoustique Kristoff K.Roll.

Le grandpère de JeanMichel Espitallier était cowboy. Un vrai cowboy d’Amérique, au bout du bout du Far West : en Californie. Dans sa jeunesse, il a quitté ses Alpes natales pour aller chercher fortune dans ces contrées lointaines qui condensaient alors toute l’espérance et tout l’or du monde. Et puis, pour une raison inconnue, il est revenu. Il a vécu le reste de son âge dans son coin de France, au milieu de montagnards taiseux dont il faisait partie, lui aussi.

De cet aïeul propre à susciter des légendes, on ne sait presque rien. Son histoire est comme un trou de mémoire dans la mythologie familiale.

jean-michel espitallier’s grandfather was a cowboy - a genuine American cowboy in the ’Wild West’ of California. In his youth, he left behind his native French Alps to seek his fortune in those distant countries that seemed to contain all the hope and gold in the world. And then, for unknown reasons, he returned home. He lived the rest of his adult life in his little corner of France amidst the taciturn mountain folk of whom he was one.

Of this grandfather who was the stuff of legends, little is actually known – he is like a gaping hole in the family mythology.
