ACG SUNDERLAND
WINGS NEWSLETTER Vol 15, Term One, Week Eight, 20 March 2020
Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland These are unprecedented times and there is no script to follow. Every day, processes are evolving and changing, reflecting both national and international practices. Our Prime Minister has released a statement outlining a change retrospectively requiring all people to selfisolate if arriving in New Zealand in the past two weeks. All parents and students are required to respect the change please. A decision was made on Monday that ACG Sunderland will cease having large gatherings, this includes Assemblies, House meetings, and large group meetings. The distribution of all information now goes through the Homeroom Teacher and Form time. The decision was not made lightly, but we believe this practise is in the best interest of our school and students. Many of our sports on offer are now in question. Cricket and Touch have already decided to abandon the rest of the season to reflect current thinking. Winter sports has given themselves time and have deferred decisions for another few weeks. I will keep the community updated with any changes that take place. Unfortunately, we have had to postpone both our Year Five and Year Three camps until later in the academic year. These decisions once again were not easy to make, however all parents were understanding of the situation. To be fair, I think most children were not. The current thinking coming from the Government and the Ministry of Education is that school is a safe place and therefore there are no plans, currently, to close schools. This would be a practise taken much further down the track. However, as I outlined in my email to the community, ACG Sunderland is very well positioned to convert our teaching to a virtual classroom. Trialling is well underway. In fact, Mr Stephens taught his Senior Chemistry classes remotely yesterday.
