WINGS NEWSLETTER
Vol 15, Term One, Week Term One, 3 April 2020
Dear Parents and Friends of Sunderland
I am sure like us, you and your family have swung into the routine of ‘lockdown’ life within the confines of your home – only venturing out for exercise and perhaps to risk the queues at the supermarket. Since my last newsletter, the overwhelming feedback from students and parents with regards the ‘virtual lessons’ has been positive. Students seem to be really enjoying the experiences of ‘school at home’. We did take on advice from some quarters, with the staff scaling back some of our expectations of workload when we got into the work patterns and expectations. Thank you for that. With regards feedback, staff will be carrying out little surveys within class time to gain further understanding with regards making the experience more positive for all involved. This week, I wish to highlight our Preschool, Sue Revill and her team of teachers have also been delivering online lessons to the under five-year olds – very successfully. At the time of lockdown, Sue’s team had prepared packs of material to take away, including paper, pens, glue sticks and paint too. They are including this material into these lessons and to give a full experience for the children at home. I know this period of time maybe distressing and particularly for children. I hope you can appreciate our intention to continue with the routine of teaching and learning straight away, rather than going into the school holidays as the state schools did. Our intention is to give parents some reprieve, give you time to continue with your work cycles at home and have the confidence that your children are continuing with their learning.
