ADD-like Behavior and Academic Achievement

ADD-like Behavior and Academic Achievement Abstract Persons suffering from attention deficit disorder (ADD) cannot be fully attentive and will generally be impulsive. This is because ADD, as a condition, affects a person’s neurobiology. In addition, it is most likely that individuals affected by ADD will perform poorly academically. To determine the relationship between ADD-like behavior and class work performance, the authors of this study investigated various variables such as English performance in 9th Grade and existence of social adjustment problems in 9th grade among other variables. A score of ADD-like characteristics (mean of 3) was the dependent variable. It was found out that ADD-like behavior and poor class work performance are related. This study, therefore, aids in detecting young persons who may suffer from ADD in their latter years based on their current class work performance. Consequently, it would be possible to intervene at an early stage and save the children from ADD.
