The Storyteller Little Red Riding Hood

In a little house in the woods lived a young girl and her mother. Everyone called the child Little Red Riding Hood because of the red hooded cloak she always wore.

One day

her

mother said, “Little Red Riding Hood, your grandmother is ill.”

Take her this cake and stay with her awhile. But you mustn’t go through the woods because that’s where the wolf lives.

Little Red Riding Hood promised to stay on the path then bid her mother farewell and set off.

It was a beautiful sunny day—the birds were singing and the bunny rabbits were playing hideandseek.

They beckoned Little Red Riding Hood to chase them making her quickly forget her mother’s warning as she ran through the trees after them.

She hadn’t gone very far when she heard a deep voice ask, “Hello little girl, where are you going?” It was the wolf.
“I’m going to visit my grandmother who lives in a cottage on the other side of the forest,” Little Red Riding Hood replied.

The wolf knew the forest well and was able to take a shortcut to get to the cottage first. The door was open so he raced inside and gobbled up the old lady in a single mouthful!

The trickster quickly donned the old lady’s nightgown, nightcap and glasses then jumped into her bed and waited for Little Red Riding Hood to arrive.

When Little Red Riding Hood reached the cottage and went over to her grandmother’s bed, she received a big surprise!

“Oh Grandma, what big eyes you have!” she exclaimed.

“All the better to see you with, my dear,” the wolf replied.

“Oh Grandma, what a big mouth you have!” “ALL THE BETTER TO EAT YOU WITH, MY DEAR!”
The wolf bounded out of bed and swallowed up Little Red Riding Hood as well.

Luckily, a woodcutter was passing the house and heard the wolf snoring very loudly.

The woodcutter peeped through the window and saw the wolf lying asleep. Quick as a wink, he loaded his rifle, went inside and shot the wolf. He then cut a hole in the wolf’s stomach and helped Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother to climb out, safe and sound!

Little Red Riding Hood hugged her grandmother and promised her that she would never disobey her mother again.
