(KK) Soruları kim soracak, nasıl başlayalım?
(GÖ) Seninle başlayalım. İsminin bir anlamı var mı?
(KK) Asıl ben sana sorayım. Kendine isim koymak?.. Buna, kendinden kurtulma çabası diyebilir miyiz?
(GÖ) Kim istemez ki bunu?!
(KK) Neyi?
(GÖ) Başka bir şey olmayı.
(KK) İkisi birbirinden farklı. Kendinden kurtulamazsın ama başka bir şeye dönüşmek, belki bir an için...
(GÖ) ...olabilir.
(KK) Peki söyler misin, resim senin için ne anlama geliyor?
(GÖ) İyi bir soru değil bu. Yine de kardeşimden öğrendiğim bir şeyle karşılık vermek isterim.
(KK) Hahaha! Çok komiksin! Annenle babandan da bir şeyler öğrendin mi bari?
(GÖ) Aslında evet, annemden resim yapmayı, babamdan da defter tutmayı. Her karşılaşma bir öğrenmedir.
(KK) Görmek, öğrenmektir.
(GÖ) Duymak da.
(KK) Kardeşinden öğrendiğin şeyden söz ediyordun...
(GÖ) “Anlam arkadan gelir.”
(KK) İyiymiş!
(GÖ) Aynı soruyu ben sorsam?
(KK) Resim mi? Çok basit! Yüzey, sadece yüzey. (GÖ) Fazla basit oldu. Ne kastediyorsun?
(KK) Yüzeyi, özgürce hayallere daldığın bir şey olarak tarif etmek isterdim ama böyle değil. Şöyle diyelim; karşılıklı durduğun, herhangi bir temasta bulunduğun herhangi bir şeyden sana doğru en hızlı, en önce ulaşan taraftır yüzey. Az önce söylediğin cümleyi tekrar edelim, “Anlam arkadan gelir.” Bu cümle yanlış ama yanlışlığı güzel. Açıklayayım, burada aslında anlam ve bakış denen kavramları konuşuyoruz. Bakışın bir tarafı anlamla ilgili; bakarız, çünkü anlamak isteriz. Buna, kendini bu dünyada konumlandırma çabası da diyebilirsin.
(GÖ) Peki resim yaparken senin bu ikisiyle derdin ne?
(KK) Senle benim görevimiz izleyiciyi bir an için hem anlam denen şeyden kurtarmak hem de bakışı özgürleştirmek. Bir şeye hiçbir menfaatin olmadan baktığın bir ânı hayal et. (GÖ) Çok güzel, çünkü anlam denen şeyi yakalamak istemek bir yandan da kendini doğrulamayı istemektir. Ve doğru, zayıftır! (KK) Sorun, her an haklı olmaya çalışmakta! (GÖ) Haklı olmanın dayanılmaz hafifliği. Bu hafifliği yakalamak için haksızlığa uğradığını düşünmek zorunda olmak...
(KK) Who’s going to ask questions, how shall we begin?
(GÖ) Let’s start with you. Does your name have a meaning, anything to do with tiger or the car?
(KK) No, I’d better ask you. Naming yourself?.. Can we call this an effort towards getting rid of yourself?
(GÖ) Who wouldn’t want that?!
(KK) Want what?
(GÖ) To be something else.
(KK) These two are different. You can’t get rid of yourself, but to be transformed into something else… for a moment perhaps…
(GÖ) ...perhaps.
(KK) Then tell me, what does painting mean to you?
(GÖ) That is not a good question. Still, I would like to answer you with something I learnt from my brother.
(KK) Hahaha! You’re very funny! And how about your mother and your father, have you learnt anything from them too?
(GÖ) As a matter of fact yes, I learnt to paint from my mother and to keep notebooks from my father. Every encounter is a learning experience.
(KK) Seeing is learning.
(GÖ) So is hearing.
(KK) You mentioned the thing you learnt from your brother…
(GÖ) “Meaning follows.”
(KK) That’s cool!
(GÖ) Could I ask the same question to you?
(KK) About painting? Very simple! Surface, nothing but surface.
(GÖ) Far too simple. What exactly do you mean?
(KK) I wish I could describe surface as something on which I can contemplate freely, but it’s not. Let me put it this way: Surface is the side of anything that reaches you the first and the fastest, anything that you stand face to face, have a kind of contact. Let us repeat what you’ve just said. “Meaning follows.” This sentence is wrong, but its wrongness is beautiful. Let me explain: Here we are actually talking about concepts of meaning and looking. An aspect of looking is related to meaning; we do look, for we yearn for a meaning. You can call it an effort of positioning yourself in this world, if you like.
(GÖ) Then, what is your problem with these two while painting?
(KK) You and me, our duty is to liberate the viewer from that thing called meaning for a moment while emancipating the looking.
