Download and update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release and updates Before initiating the conversion, confirm that your QuickBooks Desktop program is up to date. Access your QuickBooks Desktop program, then navigate to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.

Print a Balance Sheet
Print a balance sheet Before making any alterations in QuickBooks Online, print a balance sheet for the current date and compare it with the balance sheet printed from QuickBooks Desktop. Ideally, they should match; however, discrepancies require investigation and correction in QuickBooks Online before proceeding. You can log back into your QuickBooks Desktop company to help identify any discrepancies.
Although your bank and credit card activity should transfer over during the conversion from QuickBooks Desktop, the connections to your bank do not. You'll need to connect your bank and credit card account to QuickBooks Online. While not mandatory, we recommend this step to save time and reduce data entry errors. To initiate the connection of your bank accounts: Hover over Transactions in your left menu bar. Select Bank transactions. Click the drop-down arrow next to the Link account. Choose to Manage connections.
