What We Do:
Person-Centered Care
Since 1994, ACCESS has been offering services to individuals with developmental delays, language and learning disorders, and other special needs. Through the years, the organization has expanded to bring new services to those we serve based on the need within the community.
Brick by Brick: 30 Years of Growth
Brick by brick, ACCESS has grown over the past 30 years from serving just seven clients in 1994 to impacting the lives of 1,177 clients today. With each milestone, we’ve added vital programs and services to meet the evolving needs of our community. This journey reflects our dedication to creating lasting change – one service, one client, one dream at a time. As we look to the future, we see endless possibilities to continue strengthening our mission, supporting even more families and inspiring endless success.
Foundations Laid, Futures
Built: Our Clients
From early learners to young adults, ACCESS provides an individualized approach to intervention and learning. Educators, therapists, support staff, and more work together using innovative instruction methods to expand potential for every individual we serve.
ACCESS was the key to our daughters reaching their full potential. Both girls are independent and flourishing. Born with many medical conditions, ACCESS was the answer to our prayers.”

ACCESS Early Childhood has been a beacon of hope for our family as Mason is living proof! ACCESS provided tailored strategies that addressed Mason’s unique needs, helping him achieve milestones I once thought were out of reach. As a parent, I also benefited from the resources ACCESS recommended, which have empowered me to support Mason’s development better at home. ACCESS has truly enriched our lives, building a strong foundation for Mason’s future while strengthening our family bond.”

ACCESS has provided many opportunities for me to learn how to fit better into society and provided many opportunities I would not have otherwise.”
BEAU HAMMONS
ACCESS Client
Beau attended ACCESS Early Childhood program, ACCESS Academy, ACCESS Life, Project SEARCH Arkansas: ACCESS Initiative and is now an ACCESS employee. He was taught how to communicate and the meaning of words early on using sign language, communication symbols, and communication boards. He was taught to read using the Association Method and became an avid reader as a result. Beau learned invaluable, transferable job skills within Project SEARCH and his world is wide open as a result. I am confident Beau’s story would be different without the opportunities afforded him through ACCESS programs.

What I like most about the ACCESS CES Medicaid Waiver Program is Jessica’s Direct Support Professional (DSP). Jessica has an automatic friend who understands her, teaches her, is patient with her, is silly with her, and loves her no matter what. Having a DSP helps Jessica to be independent of me, while at the same time allowing me to trust that she is still learning, experiencing, and growing into a more independent woman.”

When Finn started at ACCESS, we didn’t know what to expect. We had an almost one-year-old with complex medical needs. He couldn’t sit up or even roll over.
Over the last five years, Finn’s therapists and teachers have wowed us! He is now walking, running, jumping, drinking, talking, and can even put his socks and shoes on!
Thanks to ACCESS, we have a busy fiveyear-old with a big future ahead.”
LAUREN

We remember fearing that Nikolas would never be able to speak or read. Considering where he is now in contrast to where he started amazes us. Nikolas could not have accomplished everything he has without ACCESS and the many wonderful teachers and therapists there, and the techniques and tools he was given. Without that early intervention and all he was taught, he would not be the great success he is today.”

When we found ACCESS Academy, it was an answer to our prayers. We had been watching our sweet girl shrink into someone we did not know while in the public school system. After two weeks of coming to ACCESS, I watched her not only come back to who we knew, but blossom with confidence and hope that she could be all that we had told her she could be. ACCESS Academy is not just a school, it’s a place where hope can be restored and where dreams for your child with different needs can become reality!”

We applied for CES Medicaid Waiver services to help Ashley live independently and enhance her quality of life. ACCESS’s strong reputation and positive references made our choice clear, and we have felt supported every step of the way. Waiver allows Ashley to engage in activities she loves while developing life skills and confidence, helping her become more involved in the community. These services have been life-changing for our family. We are grateful for ACCESS and the impact of Waiver services!”

We feel so blessed that Jordyn attends ACCESS Academy. Her growth and progress have been exceptional. The teachers and staff are caring and truly invest in Jordyn’s experience. It shows in her smile and confidence every day. It is a joy for her to go to school!”

Jacob was diagnosed with a global developmental delay at the age of four. We enrolled him at ACCESS Academy to address his learning needs. After two years at ACCESS, Jacob academically caught up with his twin brother and enrolled in the second grade. Today, Jacob’s standardized test scores are in the top 1% of kids his age. Thank you, ACCESS Academy, for helping Jacob realize his full potential.”

For over 20 years, Our Lady of the Holy Souls School (OLHS) has worked closely with ACCESS. By combining our resources and expertise, we have been able to provide students and their families with therapeutic and educational opportunities across our campuses. For me, one of the most exciting parts of our relationship is the ability to provide students on both campuses with the opportunity for the best learning environment. ACCESS is truly a blessing to the staff, students, and families of Our Lady of the Holy Souls School and the Central Arkansas community!”

Individuals with special needs have the same desire to find independence and purpose as anyone else. Taziki’s is a proud partner with ACCESS to provide vocational training opportunities to prepare them for success in the work force while giving local businesses the chance to invest in their community. We also value the work of the clients in the ACCESS Life Young Adult Program who grow the fresh basil our customers enjoy in a variety of our menu offerings. These partnerships are a win-win for both ACCESS and Taziki’s.”

Pillars of Support: Our Community Partners
Our partners are essential in expanding the reach of our mission beyond the walls of our facilities. These individuals, corporations, and organizations walk alongside us and our clients, ensuring that our community remains strong and committed to making lasting impacts for individuals of all abilities. Their collaboration helps us build upon the foundation of our mission, creating a broader network of support and opportunity.
Arkansas Children’s Hospital has been a community partner with Project SEARCH Arkansas: ACCESS Initiative since 2013. We feel the success of this partnership and the program is rooted in the alignment of our organizations’ missions and core values. This program creates a healthier tomorrow for the young people who are interns in Project SEARCH. They might have thought their future was limited, but through this program, we open doors for them and help them have a healthy tomorrow.”

Building Success from Within: Our Team
Our team is the driving force behind our mission, made up of dedicated, highly-qualified experts whose commitment to serving and building the brightest future for every client is evident in the progress they help achieve. With a front row seat to each client’s journey, they play an integral role in the person-centered approach, and we are proud of their contributions and deeply grateful for their unwavering devotion.
I love working at ACCESS because I get to help families navigate our services and see the impact on their lives. Witnessing daily miracles, whether in therapy successes or friendships, is incredibly rewarding. One highlight has been working with our students at the Special Olympics, and the joy of our team collaborating to make it all happen adds to the experience.”
CATHY HOLMES
Office Manager
At ACCESS, I’ve found a true sense of belonging; it feels more like a team than just a workplace. Everyone steps up to help each other. I’ve seen students grow tremendously, moving from Early Childhood programs to adult programs and transitioning into successful jobs. I’ve even run into several former students working at restaurants, and they always greet me with smiles from ear to ear.”
MIKE MARKUM Facility Manager
Working at ACCESS has helped me grow both professionally and personally. Over 13 years, I’ve found a work family and met my husband, and our twin daughters now attend the Early Childhood program. The real joy comes from seeing the growth and progress in the children I work with, evidenced by their dedication and improved communication.”
I’ve worked at ACCESS Early Childhood for almost three years. During that time, I’ve gained invaluable experience in classroom management. ACCESS has pushed me to expand my creativity and critical thinking, so that I can teach my students in a way that is conducive to their educational success. I’m blessed to be a part of the ACCESS community.”

As the Project SEARCH Arkansas: ACCESS Initiative Director for over seven years, I’ve watched our interns gain skills and confidence, hit milestones like buying their first car or getting their own apartment, and truly appreciate the value of meaningful work. ACCESS’s mission and our approach to promoting independence have made a big difference in many lives. I’m so thankful for the supportive, dedicated team I work with every day—it makes this job feel like home and brings me a lot of joy.”

Building a Legacy Together: Our Community of Supporters
The impact of our community giving back to ACCESS is felt across all our programs and touches the lives of each of the students, clients, and families we serve. Whether through volunteerism, in-kind donations, or financial investments, those who give to ACCESS make a profound difference in helping the organization continue to build brighter futures.
During my senior year of high school, I volunteered at the Early Childhood campus, shadowing Occupational Therapist Meggie Bretz and working in a Pre-K 3 classroom. This experience sparked my passion for working with children with disabilities and led me to become a part-time Teacher’s Assistant (TA), summer employee, and substitute TA over the past year. My time at ACCESS solidified my decision to pursue Occupational Therapy, and now in my first year of OT school, I’m thrilled to be part of the ACCESS family and work with such amazing
CELIA TILLERY ACCESS Volunteer
I have been lucky enough to volunteer with ACCESS for the past several years and have seen first-hand how our fundraising efforts directly impact the mission and students. Arkansas is lucky to have such a wonderful organization that provides tailored approaches to the individual clients through therapy, education, and vocational training. I love supporting a meaningful organization that’s making a positive difference in their clients’ lives.”
MARY TAYLOR
ACCESS In Action Committee Member
We all benefit from ACCESS’s mission. There are few organizations that can accomplish this goal. Our decision to continually give to ACCESS over the years derives from not only their unique vision, but also their execution of this vision, the evidence of which we see in our community every day.
Organizations like ACCESS need to be big; cathedrals of influence for our communities.
ACCESS is an unbelievable organization filling an unfunded societal need. We have seen first-hand how ACCESS develops the minds and bodies of children from infants to graduates. There is simply no other organization in Arkansas that compares. Our family would not reside in Arkansas if it weren’t for ACCESS, and hundreds of other families can make the same statement.”
DANIEL AND RACHAEL OBERSTE
ACCESS Past Parents and Community Supporters
One thing I have gained as a volunteer at ACCESS is a love for people that are different in whatever way. Some of the kids in my class had trouble with speech, some had trouble with walking, and I loved all of them the exact same. It was also cool to see the kids achieve something big because they were so proud of themselves, and you could see the happiness within them!”
ELLA HORTON
ACCESS Early Childhood Volunteer
I am proud to support ACCESS as a volunteer and advocate for its mission because I have witnessed its incredible impact on our community first hand, and neighbors whose families attend or receive services at the Stella Boyle Smith Early Childhood campus. Whether helping a child find their words, take their first independent steps, or try a new food texture, the ACCESS team continually brings joy and hope to those they serve. Every child deserves the opportunity to “build a brighter future,” and ACCESS makes that possible.”
RYAN GIBSON

I invest in ACCESS because I believe in their mission to create lasting positive outcomes for those who need support. Their services are vital to our community, and their commitment to building brighter futures aligns with my dedication to providing essential resources for individuals with developmental disabilities and learning challenges.”

Letter From Our Co-Founders
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As co-founders of ACCESS, we reflect with immense gratitude on 30 years of serving individuals with language, learning, and developmental disabilities. What began as a small dream with just seven children has grown into a thriving community of over 1,000 individuals. This incredible journey has been guided by our mission: ExpandingIndividual PotentialThroughInnovativeInstruction.
From Humble Beginnings to Extraordinary Growth
In our early years, ACCESS operated out of a modest office building with a budget of only $300,000. Our passion and belief in every child’s potential kept us moving forward. Today, we serve over 1,000 individuals annually with a $24 million budget—a testament to perseverance and the belief shared by our community of families, supporters, and professionals.
Honoring Our Team—The Heart of ACCESS
At our recent staff retreat, we celebrated 15 staff members who have been with ACCESS for over 20 years, and more than 55 who have been with us
for at least 10. These dedicated individuals are the heartbeat of ACCESS, making our mission a reality each day. We couldn’t achieve what we do without their unwavering support and dedication.
Empowering Potential Every Step of the Way
From our early days offering preschool and outpatient therapy, we have continually evolved to meet the needs of our students and families. Today, we serve not only preschoolers but also school-age children and adults, with programs reaching across the state.
The Hallmark of Our Success
Listening has been at the core of our success. Our ability to build programs that work comes from paying close attention to the needs of our community. Quality and innovation are also cornerstones of our approach. Each person we serve benefits from an individualized plan, tailored to their unique needs and potential.
Every success story is a reminder of the importance of personalized care and continuous innovation. Each person touched by ACCESS is a living testament to what can be achieved through compassion, expertise, and collaboration.
The Journey Continues
Our mission remains focused on empowering each person to reach their fullest potential. From infants to young adults, we take a holistic approach, supporting every client’s unique journey. As we look to the future, we see tremendous opportunities to expand our services and continue innovating to meet the needs of even more families.
Thank You for 30 Years of Support
This journey has been made possible by your belief in our mission. Whether you are a family member, community partner, donor, or advocate, you are part of the ACCESS family. Together, we have turned a dream into a movement of hope and possibility.
Thank you for 30 years of support. We look forward to continuing this journey together—reaching new heights, embracing new opportunities, and impacting countless lives along the way.
With deepest appreciation and hope for the future,
Tammy Simmons and Monika Garner Smith
