PIONEERS' Paradise

Dr. Brenda Thompson

LEADING WITH AUTHENTICITY AND GIVING WITH PURPOSE

Dr. Brenda Smith Thompson is an accomplished educator, dedicated entrepreneur, and the visionary Founder and CEO of Ron Smith Scholarships, Inc. Her career—marked by academic excellence, leadership, and service—reflects a lifelong commitment to empowering others, especially students. With every initiative she leads, Dr. Thompson brings decades of expertise, and a heart deeply rooted in faith and community.

In her exclusive VBD Magazine interview, Dr. Thompson’s journey reveals how purpose can emerge from loss—and how one woman’s courage to act can open doors for generations to come. Through her leadership, students are finding their path to graduation, and her brother’s memory is being honored in the most transformative way: through changed lives.

FROM RICHMOND ROOTS TO EDUCATIONAL HEIGHTS

Born in Richmond, Virginia, and raised in the historic Church Hill neighborhood, Dr. Thompson’s journey is rooted in the values instilled by her parents, Mary Evelyn and Raymond Smith. “Both of my parents were factory workers who stressed the importance and value of a sound education for their children,” she says. “As a result, all three children completed high school, enrolled in different undergraduate programs, and subsequently graduated with bachelor’s degrees from Virginia Union University, an HBCU.”

As a student at Armstrong High School, Dr. Thompson embraced every opportunity. “I was enrolled in a college preparatory curriculum. I joined the school’s a cappella choir, majorette squad, and modern dance troupe,” she shares. “I also developed an interest in tennis but did not try out for the team. Instead, I participated in Math and Science Fair competitions and started a girl’s R&B group called the Carousels. I really enjoyed my high school years.”

Dr. Thompson thrived at Virginia Union University (VUU), balancing a rigorous academic load with vibrant campus life. “I quickly dove into my studies that

included biology, chemistry, physics, statistics, German, botany, calculus, trigonometry, and more,” she recalls. “I also found time to attend parties, go to games, join Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and serve as Miss Virginia Union University during my senior year.”

A CALLING TO TEACH AND LEAD

After graduating with a bachelor’s in biology and a minor in chemistry, she began working as a Laboratory Technologist at the Medical College of Virginia, matching organ donors and recipients. Later, she led a hematology lab where she also trained medical students—an experience that ignited a passion for education. “It was the teaching component of this job that piqued my interest in higher education,” she says.

This interest led to a master’s in biology education from Virginia Commonwealth University, and eventually, a doctorate in education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). After graduation, she returned to her alma mater (VUU) to direct the Kenan Project, a transformative partnership between VUU and two Richmond high schools. “At the conclusion of the four-year program, there was a 97% college-going rate,” she notes proudly. “The Mayor of Richmond presented me with the Key to the City and declared a day in May as Kenan Project Day.”

EXPANDING HORIZONS IN HIGHER EDUCATION

In 1992, Dr. Thompson moved from Richmond to Florida with her son Rodney to accept a tenure-earning position at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), where she served as Director of Student Teaching for 12 years. Her outstanding leadership led

I NEED INSPIRATION EVERY DAY, AND IT CAN COME FROM SO MANY DIFFERENT SOURCES – A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER, SERMON, OBSERVATION, SPORTING EVENT, CHILDREN, AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY.

to a promotion as Assistant Dean for Student Personnel Services and tenured full Professor in FAMU’s College of Education. She also attained Graduate Scholar status in FAMU’s School of Graduate Studies and Research.

During her tenure, Dr. Thompson expanded student teaching placements to include both national and international locations. She shared her research findings at conferences around the world. While in Spain, she presented at the University of Barcelona, highlighting student teacher placements and their experiences abroad in cities across Europe and Asia.

In 2006, she was hired by the University of Central Florida (UCF), where she served in several key roles. She retired in August 2022 after 16 years of dedicated service as a Faculty Administrator and Director of Community Engagement in UCF’s College of Community Innovation and Education.

Beyond academia, Dr. Thompson has made a significant impact in the Central Florida community. She has served as a mentor in the Valencia College Horizon Scholars Program, a board member of the Orlando International Film Festival (OIFF) Lions Club, and a member of the UCF Town and Gown Council (past board member). She is currently a member of the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, on the Scholarship Committee of the Women’s Executive Council and has served as Chair of the CCIE Greater Orlando Heart Walk for the American Heart Association. Addi-

tionally, she has contributed to education through her involvement with the Cabinets of Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) and Evans High School.

Dr. Thompson is a former owner of Florida Places To Live Realty and previously served as CEO of Community Capital Design and Metrics, a technology company. She is a member of Northland Church and Northland Tennis Group.

THE BIRTH OF A LEGACY

On May 22, 2024, Dr. Thompson founded Ron Smith Scholarships (RSS), Inc. in Orlando to honor her late brother, Ronald Dean Smith. “Ron passed away on December 4, 2022,” she shares. “Ron’s legacy brings passionate leaders and committed partners together to provide financial relief through scholarships to final semester HBCU students across the U.S., ensuring that they cross the finish line and reach a life-changing milestone—college graduation. At RSS, we strongly believe that when students graduate from college, they will be better prepared to achieve their dreams and elevate themselves and their communities.”

Despite being newly established, the organization has already made an impact. “In less than one year, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit engaged in fundraising activities sufficient to award $1,000 scholarships to two spring 2025 graduating seniors from Southern University and Agricultural & Mechanical College, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.”

TACKLING FINANCIAL BARRIERS TO GRADUATION

Dr. Thompson understands the real-world barriers students face. “Research shows that the top reasons students do not finish their degrees are lack of sufficient finances, family issues, and inadequate academic preparation,” she explains. “RSS helps students who have financial barriers that could prevent them from earning their college degree.”

To be eligible to apply for a RSS, students must:

1. Be currently enrolled at an HBCU as an undergraduate senior or final-year graduate student.

2. Have a 2.8 GPA (undergraduate) or 3.0 GPA (graduate).

3. Be approved to graduate during the designated semester.

4. Have an unmet financial need.

5. Submit a complete RSS application packet that includes: online RSS application, transcript(s) (official or unofficial), resume, proof of current enrollment, two letters of recommendation, and an essay that addresses specific prompts.

“Using a rubric, the RSS Selection Committee reviews all application packet information and selects scholarship winners,” Dr. Thompson asserts. “Recipients are notified of their award, and an announcement is posted on the RSS website.”

FROM START-UP STRUGGLES TO GROWING SUPPORT

Launching a nonprofit brought unique challenges. “The biggest challenge for me occurred at the beginning when I had to determine the best corporate structure for RSS,” Dr. Thompson explains. “It was difficult to decide on corporation vs LLC, nonprofit vs foundation, public charity vs private charity.”

Ultimately, she chose the nonprofit model. “To us, it was far more important to do ‘good’ than generate income for staff,” she says. “Our small board of directors is a volunteer board and does not receive any financial compensation for its work.”

Naming the organization was another critical decision. “One day the name Ron Smith Scholarships occurred to me, and it sounded like the perfect name for our nonprofit… and the rest is history.”

IT IS IMPORTANT TO EDUCATE ONESELF ABOUT THE PURPOSE OF A NONPROFIT BEFORE TRYING TO START ONE.

COLLABORATION AND VISIONARY LEADERSHIP

Community partnerships have played a pivotal role. “The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) provided numerous educational workshops, online and in-person classes, and mentoring that helped us refine our vision, mission and goals,” Dr. Thompson shares. “RSS collaborated with other nonprofits and individuals to discuss fundraising, marketing, website design, and more. We

were visible in many communities and that was important because it showed that we cared about the people who live there. As others got to know us and became comfortable interacting with us, relationships developed. ”

Dr. Thompson praises her Board of Directors. “Arlene Clemons serves as the Chief Liaison Officer and Rodney Thompson is the Chief Operating Officer. Their loyalty, service and dedication to the success of RSS is top notch.”

A LIFETIME OF LESSONS AND LEADERSHIP

Drawing from her background in education, Dr. Thompson leads with insight.

“Inside and outside of the classroom, the educator’s role is to understand the strengths and areas for improvement that each student has and then craft creative learning experiences,” she says. “It is as much an art as a science.”

She encourages aspiring nonprofit founders to pursue knowledge and mentorship. “It is important to educate oneself about the purpose of a nonprofit before trying to start one,” she advises. “Nonprofits exist solely for the public good.”

Once there is a clear understanding and commitment to the nonprofit’s purpose, Dr. Thompson encourages aspiring founders to “delete fear of failure from your mind. Even if you are not successful on your first attempt, understand what going through the process revealed to you and review data acquired that now must be analyzed and applied differently on your next attempt.” Her advice is firm yet uplifting: “Be committed to success. It’s magnetic… opportunities open up, strength increases, and other people become more visible and accessible to you in your efforts to continue your undertaking.”

FAITH AND FAMILY

For Dr. Thompson, faith is foundational. “I need inspiration every day, and it can come from so many different sources – a motivational speaker, sermon, observation, sporting event, children, and volunteer opportunity,” she shares. “As young children, Ron, Mary Yvonne, and I attended Sunday School and church every Sunday. The church environment and the guidance of our parents helped us develop strong values that include a concern for others. That’s probably when our philanthropic roots developed.”

She adds, “I miss my brother Ron, and I have faith that he is with God in a much better place. I know that he smiles as he realizes that we speak his name daily… he has not been forgotten.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

BE COMMITTED TO SUCCESS. IT’S MAGNETIC… OPPORTUNITIES OPEN UP, STRENGTH INCREASES, AND OTHER PEOPLE BECOME MORE VISIBLE AND ACCESSIBLE TO YOU IN YOUR EFFORTS TO CONTINUE YOUR UNDERTAKING.

Looking ahead, Dr. Thompson is dreaming big. “Future plans include expanding the RSS information network to include all HBCUs in the nation,” she says. “We believe that the overall impact of RSS will be to help increase the number of HBCU graduates; thereby improving HBCU graduation rates.”

Faith In The Waiting Room

HOW CAROLINE AND COLBY HARRIES ARE CHANGING THE NARRATIVE OF INFERTILITY

When you meet Caroline and Colby Harries, you immediately sense the warmth that radiates from their presence. Their smiles are genuine, their words are intentional, and their hearts are unmistakably devoted to serving others. They are the kind of couple who listen deeply, love openly, and lead from a place of unwavering faith.

Whether you find them praying over someone at a conference, sharing their story online, or opening their arms to couples walking through one of life’s most painful paths—infertility—the Harries are a picture of grace in motion. With humility, strength, and compassion, they are changing the narrative of infertility by infusing it with community, purpose, and the hope of Christ.

This April, in honor of National Infertility Awareness Week, Victorious by Design is proud to introduce Caroline and Colby Harries and shine a light on the life-giving ministries they’ve founded: Moms in the Making and Dads in the Making. These organizations are not just support groups—they are sacred spaces for healing, faith, and transformation.

FROM HEARTACHE TO HOPE

“Like so many little girls, I dreamed of becoming a mom,” Caroline shares. “You grow up thinking it’ll happen in a certain order—love, marriage, and then a baby. But our story looked very different.”

Caroline and Colby married in 2011 and began trying to grow their family soon after. Instead of a joyful pregnancy announcement, they were met with the painful and unexpected diagnosis of infertility. What followed was a journey marked by deep faith, long seasons of waiting, and ultimately, a calling greater than they could have imagined.

“About a year into our journey, I felt the Lord prompting me to connect with other women walking the same path,” Caroline recalls. She opened her home in June 2013 to just six women. It was a simple beginning—one filled with prayer, honest

conversation, and shared tears. But that small group would become the spark for something extraordinary.

Today, Moms in the Making has grown into an international nonprofit with over 90 in-person and virtual support groups, all offering Christ-centered communities to women experiencing infertility.

“We’ve celebrated over 500 miracle babies,” Caroline says, “but more than anything, we’ve seen thousands of hearts healed.”

A MINISTRY BORN IN OBEDIENCE

Only a week after receiving their infertility diagnosis, Caroline remembers sitting in the passenger seat as she and Colby drove to Austin to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. “God told me to start a blog,” she says. “I resisted. I wasn’t a writer. I was a numbers girl, working as a financial analyst.”

Still, she obeyed.

What she discovered was a space saturated in sorrow but starving for hope.

“So much of the infertility community felt negative—and understandably so,” she says. “But I knew God was calling me to something different: to be a light.”

From blog posts to small gatherings, and now a global ministry, the Lord has used Caroline and Colby’s faithfulness to create places where the weary can find rest, and the hopeless can find healing.

BUILDING ON THE ROCK OF FAITH

Faith is not just a part of the Harries’

WE’VE SEEN SALVATION, DELIVERANCE, AND SPIRITUAL AWAKENING. THIS ISN’T JUST ABOUT BABIES. IT’S ABOUT BECOMING WHOLE.

ministry—it is the foundation.

“In the midst of waiting, it’s easy to make the baby the idol,” Caroline shares. “But we’ve always believed that God must come first. When we seek Him above all else, He gives us the peace, joy, and strength we need—even when we don’t yet have the baby we long for.”

This commitment to Christ is the heartbeat of Moms in the Making and Dads in the Making. Prayer, worship, scripture, and a deep sense of belonging are woven into every gathering. “We’ve seen salvation, deliverance, and spiritual awakening,” Caroline says. “This isn’t just about babies. It’s about becoming whole.”

DADS IN THE MAKING: GIVING MEN A VOICE

While Caroline poured into women, Colby recognized the quiet suffering of men navigating infertility.

“Men are told to be strong, to fix the problem—but no one tells them how to grieve, how to support their wives, or how to process their own emotions,” Colby shares. “It creates a deep sense of isolation.”

Out of that awareness, Dads in the Making was born—a companion ministry for men walking the road of infertility. Whether they’re facing the diagnosis themselves or walking alongside their spouse, these men are finding strength in numbers, truth in scripture, and a safe place to be real.

“In this space, they’re reminded they are not alone. That their manhood is not defined by their ability to father a child. That God still has a plan,” Colby says.

MIRACLES BEYOND THE WOMB

While the Harries celebrate every miracle baby born to a once-barren womb, they’re equally moved by the deeper stories of healing and restoration.

“There’s a couple from Dallas that will always stay with us,” Caroline shares. “She had checked herself into a hospital due to severe mental health struggles. Shortly after, she came to one of our conferences—and Jesus transformed her life.”

Now, that same couple is thriving. They’ve found a church home, enrolled in Bible school, and are preparing for the mission field. “It’s such a powerful reminder that God brings beauty from ashes,” Caroline says.

Stories like these are a regular rhythm in the Harries’ ministry—testimonies of brokenness made whole, hearts softened, and lives redirected.

A SACRED GATHERING OF WOMEN

One of the most powerful expressions of Moms in the Making is the annual conference—a two-day event designed to help women encounter God in the midst of their waiting.

“The entire event is intentional,” Caroline explains. “From the worship to the speakers, from the prayer teams to the smallest decor detail—every element is planned with love.”

After eight years of hosting, the results are undeniable. “Women leave forever changed,” she says. “They walk away lighter, freer, full of hope. It’s not because of us—it’s because they met Jesus in a real, tangible way.”

CREATING A MORE COMPASSIONATE CULTURE

With 1 in 6 couples experiencing infertility and 1 in 4 pregnancies ending in miscarriage, Caroline and Colby believe the church and broader community must do more to support this often unseen journey.

“Language matters,” Caroline notes. “Instead of asking, ‘Do you have kids?’ try saying, ‘Tell me about your family.’ It’s more inclusive and gives people room to share or not share, depending on where they are.”

WOMEN LEAVE FOREVER CHANGED. THEY WALK AWAY LIGHTER, FREER, FULL OF HOPE. IT’S NOT BECAUSE OF US—IT’S BECAUSE THEY MET JESUS IN A REAL, TANGIBLE WAY.

Churches especially have a responsibility to create belonging. “So many churches offer ministries for youth or marriage, but not for those walking through infertility,” she says. “We want to help change that.”

And often, the greatest gift someone can give is simply being present. “You don’t need all the right words,” Caroline encourages. “Just say, ‘I’m here for you. I care.’ That alone can mean everything.”

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

To anyone suffering silently this National Infertility Awareness Week, Caroline and Colby offer a heartfelt reminder: You are not alone.

“There is a place for you. A space where you are seen, known, and loved,” Caroline says. “Yes, this journey is hard. But there is hope. There is healing. And there is a community ready to welcome you.”

They encourage anyone in need to reach out, attend a support group, or take a leap and register for the conference. “Some of the most beautiful stories begin when we’re brave enough to say, ‘I need help.’”

Vaishnavi Tatineni

A TEEN CHANGEMAKER’S VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF HEALTHCARE

Some people believe success comes from putting yourself first. Others think it’s about selfless generosity. But perhaps the true path lies in balance—one hand for helping yourself, and the other for helping others. Vaishnavi has found the secret to this as a co-founder of the nonprofit organization, Outreach4All, and aspiring trauma surgeon in her junior year of high school. Her passion is both inspiring and uplifting. We are pleased to share her story with you.

Born in the United States but raised in Canada where healthcare was free meant that her family did not have to consider healthcare costs. However, upon moving back to the US and seeing their first medical bill as a middle-income family, they were shocked by the costs and considered that low-income families would be struggling significantly as well. They later learned that government insurance coverage was very limited for many and qualifying for it was incredibly difficult. After learning of these challenges, Vaishnavi and her co-founder Krishitha Pingeli, knew they had to do something to help, so they established Outreach4All.

BRIDGING THE GAP IN HEALTHCARE ACCESS

Outreach4All concentrates on reducing healthcare disparities that impact minority and low-income populations, with a particular emphasis on the lack of access to affordable medical care and health education. Two significant issues they address are the gap in insurance coverage and the lack of awareness regarding available healthcare resources, which discourages people from seeking necessary help.

To confront these issues, Outreach4All connects underserved communities with medical resources through outreach events, educational workshops, and collaborations with local free health clinics. Additionally, the organization focuses on raising awareness about public health topics, educating individuals about their options for medical care, and advocating for improved accessibility within the healthcare system.

They specifically target young people because they believe that starting healthcare conversations early is essential and critical health information empowers them to make informed decisions about their well-being as they grow older. To effectively engage youth, Outreach4All’s approach is designed to be both educational and interactive. Relatable language and hands-on activities, such as workshops on first aid, CPR, and basic health education, are used to encourage participation and make learning enjoyable. Additionally, resources are created in various formats—pamphlets, videos, and social media posts—to meet students where they are. One particularly effective strategy involves connecting healthcare topics to popular memes on social media, capturing attention while delivering valuable health information. This approach helps normalize conversations about health and makes learning accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for young people.

MAKING IMPACT IN THE WORLD OF HEALTHCARE

Since its inception, Outreach4All has

been making a significant impact. The nonprofit has implemented numerous effective programs aimed at improving healthcare accessibility. One of their most significant initiatives has been the distribution of over 1,000 hygiene kits to communities in need, ensuring that basic health essentials reach individuals who might otherwise lack access. Another major accomplishment is the organization’s expansion, with the establishment of more than 20 chapters, including five international ones. Each chapter works within its respective community, tailoring efforts to local needs and extending Outreach4All’s mission far beyond what could be achieved by a single entity.

BALANCING

ACADEMICS, PRE-MED PREPARATION, AND RUNNING A NONPROFIT REALLY COMES DOWN TO STRONG TIME MANAGEMENT AND OPEN COMMUNICATION.

The organization has also prioritized health education by distributing pamphlets containing medical resources and essential health information in over 20 languages. Additionally, Outreach4All has trained over 200 students in basic healthcare skills, including first aid, CPR, and vital sign measurement. These training sessions empower young individuals with the knowledge and confidence to respond to emergency situations and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

KEYS TO SUCCESS

When we consider the profound impact of Outreach4All, we sought Vaishnavi’s advice for building and sustaining a nonprofit organization.

Gain credibility: One of the biggest challenges they faced in launching and leading a nonprofit at a young age was gaining credibility. Many people initially questioned whether they, as high school students, could really make an impact in such a complex area as healthcare access. To overcome this, they focused on building strong relationships with mentors and professionals who believed in their mission. Through partnerships and consistently delivering on their promises, they were able to show that they were serious and capable.

Enlist the support of mentors and partners: One of their biggest and most impactful partnerships has been with Common Good Medical, a free health clinic in McKinney. They partnered with them for their first hygiene kit drive, and they have been an incredible support system ever since. Specifically, they’ve worked closely with Ms. Andrea Naff, from the clinic. She has been an amazing mentor and resource for them, always offering guidance and helping them navigate the healthcare landscape. Her support has been invaluable in expanding their reach and ensuring that their efforts have a meaningful impact. In addition to this partnership, they’ve also collaborated with several fast-food chains for fundraising efforts. These partnerships have allowed them to raise funds that directly support their initiatives.

(L-R) Krishitha Pingeli, Collin County Commissioner Darrell Hale, and Vaishnavi Tatineni.

With these keys to success in mind, Vaishnavi encourages everyone to just start where they are in making a difference. Starting is always the hardest part, but once you take that first step, everything else begins to fall into place. Whether it’s launching a nonprofit or simply getting involved in existing local organizations, taking action is key. Don’t worry about having everything figured out from the beginning—there will always be challenges, but that’s part of the journey. You’ll learn as you go and find new opportunities to make an impact. The most important thing is to stay committed and not let the fear of uncertainty hold you back. Start small, keep pushing forward, and trust that with time and effort, your passion can lead to real change.

THE ART OF BALANCE

As we alluded to earlier, Vaishnavi’s selfless generosity is balanced with her passion to be a successful trauma surgeon, filling an existing need in the field and stepping up in a career where women are still underrepresented. Always fascinated with organ models and dissection exercises in school, her interest was stirred even more after visiting an anatomy museum. Additionally, she likes fastpaced environments and even enjoys the stress that comes with them; therefore, she thrives under pressure, making this career path a match made just for her.

For Vaishnavi, balancing academics, premed preparation, and running a nonprofit really comes down to strong time management and open communication. She relies heavily on schedules and to-do lists, to help her stay organized and realistic about what she can accomplish each day. Most importantly, the biggest factor is being honest with her team so that everyone can be flexible and accommodating in redistributing tasks as needed. They also plan ahead by giving certain weeks off so that everyone can focus on academics. Since they’re all high schoolers, this system ensures that we can balance our commitments without burning out.

She also practices self-care by making sure to do at least one thing each day that brings her joy. She has always loved

theatre, reading and history. So, whether it’s reading a book, listening to music, or watching my favorite TV show, performing in shows and participating in theatre-related events, taking time to unwind and enjoy life helps her stay balanced and grounded.

Similar to her outreach work, she has found mentorship to be incredibly valuable throughout her journey. She’s learned so much from the guidance of mentors who have shared their knowledge and experiences, helping her to navigate both her academic path and her aspirations to become a surgeon. Their advice has not only helped her develop as a student but also shaped her approach to leadership and problem-solving. Moreover, knowing that she has a strong support system behind her makes all the challenges feel more manageable and reminds her why she’s passionate about making a difference.

WHAT’S NEXT?

As for her educational goals, she is really excited to be wrapping up junior year

and focusing on finishing her last quarter strong with great grades. It’s been a challenging year, but she’s determined to end it on a high note as she prepares for the next steps in her journey.

For Outreach4All, they have some exciting initiatives in the works. Right now, they’re in the process of launching free health checkups, including general, dental, and vision care, at low-income schools. This is a huge project for them which is almost completed! In addition to that, they’re also excited to continue growing their chapters and getting more people involved in their mission. Expanding their network of chapters—both locally and internationally—will allow them to reach even more communities and amplify their impact. They’re thrilled to see how much Outreach4All has grown and look forward to bringing even more people on board to help them create lasting change.

A LEADER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

RoseMarie Logan

TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH VISIONARY LEADERSHIP

In the quiet district of Savannah in Hayes, Clarendon, a young girl named Rose-Marie dared to dream beyond her circumstances. The ninth of thirteen children born to the now-deceased Clarice and Ralmie Letford, she grew up in a home where faith and determination were as vital as food and water. “Life was rough,” she recalls. “My father worked in the sugar industry, which meant he was only employed for six months of the year. My mother was a homemaker who sewed uniforms for the children in our community, but that was seasonal. With so many children to feed and little income, it was a challenge.”

Yet from those modest beginnings emerged a woman of unshakable purpose—an educator, principal, and transformational leader with a divine assignment. Today, Mrs. Rose-Marie Logan serves as the Principal of Four Paths Primary and Junior High School in Jamaica, where her leadership, grounded in faith and compassion, is transforming lives. VBD Magazine caught up with the dynamic and mission-focused principal for an interview—one that overflowed with wisdom, authenticity, and golden nuggets of truth.

DETERMINATION AND DIVINE DIRECTION

“Education was my way out of poverty,” Mrs. Logan says candidly. “I saw it as the vehicle to get me where I wanted to be. Even when my parents didn’t have the financial resources to send us all to school, I would go without, because I had a plan.”

That plan included not just education but spiritual grounding. “I gave my heart to the Lord at age 11,” she says. “Since then, He has been ordering my steps and allowing me to be successful in everything I’ve done.”

Mrs. Logan’s educational journey began at Hayes Primary and Junior High school, and though she missed her first Common Entrance Examination due to illness, her teacher Mr. Ferdinand Dixon recognized her potential and nurtured it. Eventually, she sat the Technical Entrance Examination, and the Grade Nine Achievement Test—and successfully passed both.

(L-R) Barrington Richardson, Regional Director, Region 7, Ministry of Education, Judi Ann McFarlane, Digicel Foundation, Rose-Marie Logan, Edith Wiggan, PTA President, and Carnell Campbell, Digicel Foundation.

She later attended Vere Technical High School, where her passion for the sciences took root. That passion led her to Church Teachers’ College to pursue teacher education. Eager to deepen her knowledge, she continued her academic journey at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in science education, graduating with first class honors. Two years later, she completed her master’s degree in the same field with distinction. “I received two awards,” she shares proudly, “one for most outstanding student in science education, and another for demonstrating Christian values and self-discipline.”

CALLED TO LEAD

Though her heart initially leaned toward nursing, circumstances redirected her path. “I applied to a nursing program but couldn’t find accommodation in Kingston,” she shares. “My father-in-law encouraged me to try teaching—and that’s where my passion was ignited.”

From Monymusk Preparatory School to Watsonton Primary School, and eventually back to her alma mater, Vere Technical High School, Mrs. Logan poured her heart into teaching science. As head of

the Science Department at Vere Technical High School, she transformed her team by implementing constructivist approaches to learning, based on the theories of Vygotsky and Piaget. “We stopped talking at students and started doing science with them,” she explains. “I taught my teachers to approach every child as someone who already has knowledge—we just have to find it and build on it.”

Her efforts paid off as the department saw amazing results. “One student told me, ‘Mrs. Logan, you make science feel like the only subject we’re doing in school.’ That’s the impact I want,” she says.

FROM SCIENCE EDUCATOR TO PRINCIPAL

Mrs. Logan’s leadership journey took a leap forward when she was selected to join The National College of Educational Leadership’s Aspiring Principals’ Programme (APP). “It was rigorous,” she says, “but all four of us who were selected completed it successfully.” Soon after, she was appointed acting principal of Vere Technical High School—and eventually, Principal of Four Paths Primary and Junior High School.

Prior to becoming the Principal of Four Paths Primary and Junior High School in 2019, Mrs. Logan began what she calls “an environmental scan,” with the blessing of the school’s previous leadership. “I visited the school quietly and spoke with the grounds staff, cleaners, and a few teachers,” she recalls. “People want to be involved in change. I learned early on—if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. So, I spent the first year observing and learning the culture.”

From her year of observation emerged a clear vision. “I needed to build staff morale, improve academic performance, increase parental involvement, and enhance both our information and communication technology (ICT), and the school’s physical aesthetics,” she says. With strategic planning, heartfelt collaboration, and a commitment to excellence, Mrs. Logan has made remarkable progress on each front—bringing her vision to life in tangible, lasting ways.

TECHNOLOGY, TRANSFORMATION, AND TRUST

“One of my greatest accomplishments was securing a state-of-the-art ICT lab,” Mrs. Logan shares. “We partnered with

the Digicel Foundation and now have a ‘smart room’ that not only benefits our students but is used to train teachers from other schools.”

With the new ICT lab in place, Mrs. Logan has big plans for STEM integration. “I identified a teacher with potential and asked her to lead the charge. She was hesitant, but then—God’s perfect timing—a training opportunity came through the Ministry of Education. Now she’s being mentored by Dr. Francine Taylor-Campbell and leading our STEM initiative.”

Dr. Francine Taylor-Campbell is a Science Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information with special responsibility for STEM curriculum integration in schools.

The school had also engaged Ms. Davia Bryan-Campbell, Founder and CEO of EduHub Company Limited, an organization with a mission to empower educators and students while revolutionizing the learning experience through innovative EdTech solutions designed for educational institutions.

This alignment, she says, is no coincidence. “God is intentional. Everything is falling into place.”

Parental involvement has also skyrocketed. “Our parents are amazing. They’ve raised close to J$200,000 for our seating project. One parent spearheaded the effort, and we’re now able to procure at least 15 outdoor seats for students.”

To motivate students, Mrs. Logan introduced classroom awards, public shoutouts, and maintains a visually engaging and content-rich school Facebook page. “Parents love seeing their children recognized,” she says. “We now have over 7,000 followers.”

Mrs. Logan’s staff morale efforts are just as impressive. “We host award ceremonies for teachers, take them on hotel trips, and offer small tokens of appreciation at meetings. These may seem minor, but they help to build trust and school pride.”

“My team knows I do nothing without prayer,” Mrs. Logan says. “Before the Primary Exit Profile exam, that’s known as the PEP exams, I bring in pastors to pray over the students. Monthly devotions are led by local pastors. My office is known as a prayer room. This is not just a job. It’s a ministry. God assigned me here, and I will remain until He says otherwise.”

TRANSFORMATIONAL PROGRAMS

AND

MENTORSHIP

Mrs. Logan credits mentors like Mrs. Lileth Atkins-Brand and Dr. Henritta Stewart, former Principals of Vere Technical High School, for shaping her leadership journey.

“They believed in me and pushed me into growth. Dr. Stewart mentored me through the principals’ leadership program. I owe much of who I am to their guidance.”

Now, she pays it forward by mentoring her own staff and serving as a Justice of the Peace (JP). “I became a JP not for status, but because I saw the needs in my community.”

Under Mrs. Logan’s leadership, Four Paths Primary and Junior High School has launched several impactful initiatives:

OUR PARENTS ARE AMAZING. THEY’VE RAISED CLOSE TO J$200,000 FOR OUR SEATING PROJECT. ONE PARENT SPEARHEADED THE EFFORT, AND WE’RE NOW ABLE TO PROCURE AT LEAST 15 OUTDOOR SEATS FOR STUDENTS.

● Special Intervention Program: This is designed for struggling students, especially those with learning or behavioral challenges. “We assigned a resident teacher who created profiles for each child and tailored support strategies,” she says. “Now, their reading, attendance, and punctuality have significantly improved.”

● Boys to Men Club: With a focus on atrisk boys, this mentorship program partners with community leaders—police officers, soldiers, business professionals—to pour into young men and help them embrace leadership and purpose.

● Mentorship for New Teachers: “We assign mentors to all new teachers, walk with them through orientation, and offer continuous support throughout the year,” she explains.

● Literacy and Numeracy Intervention Programs: These initiatives allow students to become functionally literate and numerate. Mrs. Logan indicated that these two programs are adding value to the institution as more students are now advancing through their reading levels and there is a greater interest being shown in Mathematics.

RECOGNITION AND RESOURCES

Mrs. Logan’s transformational leadership has not gone unnoticed. In 2022, she was the recipient of two prestigious accolades: the Office of the Prime Minister’s Award for Outstanding Contribution in Education and the Paul Miles Foundation Outstanding Principal Award—a testament to her unwavering dedication to her school and community.

That same year, Four Paths Primary and Junior High School received a meaningful donation from the Paul Miles Foundation—a desktop computer and a heavy-duty printer/scanner/copier. In addition, the school received a significant number of Chromebooks and over five multimedia projectors from the Paul Miles Foundation, further boosting the integration of ICT in the classroom and enhancing the school’s digital learning environment. “These resources have made a tremendous impact,” Mrs. Logan states. “We were so grateful. Every gift, every investment into our school helps us further our mission to empower and uplift our students.”

TACKLING THE CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION

While Four Paths Primary and Junior High School is thriving, Mrs. Logan is candid about broader systemic issues in Jamaica’s education system. “We need better literacy and numeracy instructions,” she says. “Many teachers are not adequately trained to teach reading, and math anxiety is real—we have too few math and science teachers.”

She calls for more resources and smaller class sizes. “I’ve seen schools abroad with amazing facilities, while here, we have 35 to 45 students in one classroom and only one teacher. That needs to change.”

GROUNDED IN FAITH AND FAMILY

While Mrs. Logan is deeply committed to her calling as an educator and leader, she is also intentional about maintaining balance in her personal life. “I try to

GOD IS INTENTIONAL. EVERYTHING IS FALLING INTO PLACE.

create boundaries when I leave work,” she shares. “At home, I spend time reading the Bible, listening to worship music, and enjoying moments of quiet reflection.” These practices help her stay spiritually grounded and emotionally refreshed.

A major source of strength in her journey is her family—her supportive husband, Kirk Logan, an Ordained Minister of Religion in the New Testament Church of God in Jamaica, and their beloved son, Jaydon. “My husband is my greatest supporter,” she says with gratitude. “He understands the demands of ministry and leadership and always encourages me to pursue my purpose.” She is also continually uplifted by the dedicated staff, students, and parents of the Four Paths Primary and Junior High School family, whose commitment and unity fuel the school’s ongoing transformation.

THE LEGACY OF A TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADER

As she looks to the future, Mrs. Logan’s vision for Four Paths Primary and Junior High School is clear. “We’ve become a school of choice. We no longer need to advertise for registration. But we need more classroom space, and I’m praying and working toward that.”

When asked about the legacy she hopes to leave, she responds without hesitation: “That Mrs. Logan was a transformational leader who raised staff morale, engaged parents, improved academic performance, and empowered her students to believe in their God-given potential.”

And perhaps more than anything, her prayer is that others will see her not just as an educator—but as a servant of God, faithfully answering her divine assignment.

Dr. Venner Alston

AWAKENING PURPOSE AND IGNITING DESTINY

From the moment our conversation began, it was clear I was in the presence of someone with a divine purpose. A visionary leader, prophetic voice, Kingdom trailblazer, and wise master builder, Dr. Venner Alston carries divine blueprints etched into her spirit—and the authority to release them in the earth. As she spoke, the atmosphere shifted; every word held weight, depth, and revelation.

Apostle. Author. Educator. Global Voice. Dr. Venner wears many mantles yet walks in one purpose: to awaken God’s people to their divine identity and destiny. Her life is a living testimony of unshakable faith, radical obedience, and spirit-led transformation—even in seasons of unimaginable loss. Through it all, she has emerged not just whole but overflowing, ready to pour into others with clarity, compassion, and authority.

In this exclusive VBD Magazine feature, journey through the extraordinary life and ministry of a woman who has learned to recognize the voice of God, follow Him without compromise, and lead others into the fullness of their Kingdom assignments. Prepare to be challenged, encouraged, and deeply inspired—because when Dr. Venner speaks, hearts are stirred, and destinies are awakened.

ROOTS OF RESILIENCE

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dr. Venner is one of eight children, the oldest daughter in a family shaped by hard work, discipline, and enduring faith. Her mother pursued her education while working and raising children, an example of sacrifice and strength that left an indelible imprint on Dr. Venner’s heart. “My mom worked and went to school, so those are the early images I have of her,” she states. “I remember watching her graduate with her high school diploma and then continue until she became a licensed practical nurse.”

Yet, Dr. Venner’s childhood was far from easy. She was raised by a stepfather who struggled with alcoholism. “We were raised by a stepparent that was a functioning alcoholic, and he didn’t have

WE’VE MADE MINISTRY SOMETHING ELITE. BUT ACCORDING TO MARK 16 AND MATTHEW 28, EVERY BELIEVER IS SENT. APOSTOLIC MINISTRY REVIVES THAT UNDERSTANDING. IT GIVES PEOPLE URGENCY TO DO SOMETHING WITH WHAT THEY’VE BEEN GIVEN.

the capacity, I think, to love children that were not his own,” she says. “He was a verbal abuser; he was angry all the time. I grew up in that and that shapes you in a certain way.” The outworking of that pain led to rebellion in her teenage years. “If you reject someone long enough,” she explains, “the outworking of a rejected person is rebellion. So, my teen years were very tumultuous because I felt like no one loved me.”

Her life began to transform at age 17 when she had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ. Though she had spent her early years in church, it wasn’t until that moment that she truly experienced the power of salvation. That divine encounter ignited a passion and purpose that would unfold over the next several decades.

EDUCATION AND REBIRTH

Despite her rocky teenage years, which included time in a reform school and dropping out of high school, Dr. Venner defied the odds. At 18, she walked into a technical college and requested to take the GED test. After an initial assessment, she skipped remedial classes altogether and passed the test. “I just wanted to take the test,” she says. “And I walked away with my GED.”

She married at 19 and dedicated her early adult years to marriage and entrepreneurship. Yet, education was never far from her heart. Operating a thriving childcare and elementary education center, Dr. Venner’s lack of formal credentials became the catalyst that sent her back to college.

“I started with two courses every semester—spring, summer, fall—until I completed my bachelor’s, then my

master’s, and finally my doctoral degree in urban education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee,” she shares. That perseverance birthed Alston’s Preparatory Academy, which served students through eighth grade and educated over 200 children at its peak.

However, in 2013, when they needed a larger facility, God spoke clearly: “Close the school.” Though nothing was wrong operationally, she obeyed without hesitation, teaching a powerful lesson in radical obedience. “I know His voice,” she says with certainty. “And when He said close it, I obeyed.”

HEARING GOD’S VOICE

Dr. Venner’s ability to discern God’s voice has been central to her journey. She thinks that every believer has the capacity to hear God, but many don’t recognize it. “We all have spiritual senses, just like natural ones,” she asserts. “We can see, hear, feel, taste, and touch in the Spirit. The more you pay attention to those moments, the more you recognize when eternity is breaking in.”

Her life is a series of divine assignments directed by those encounters—from closing a flourishing school to walking through her late husband’s cancer diagnosis and death. Even then, she was guided by God in every decision. “I asked the Lord, ‘What remains?’ And I heard Him say, ‘There’s still purpose.’ That’s how I moved forward.”

KINGDOM ASSIGNMENTS

Dr. Venner travels extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and Africa—carrying a message of hope and releasing Kingdom solutions to both individual and societal challenges. She is uniquely gifted to communicate the Word of God across cultures and ethnicities with clarity, relevance, and power.

She was the founder and apostle of Global Outreach Ministries and Training Center for more than 20 years. In addition, she is currently launching InnovateHer Academy as well as the Exceptional Woman Network, both of which reflect her passion for equip-

ping and empowering others. Alongside her ministerial responsibilities, Dr. Venner is a certified life coach with several respected organizations, including the John Maxwell Group, and she is a proud member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

Dr. Venner operates in many roles, yet she views them as unified expressions of a single divine calling. “They are not separate. I am all of them. When I write, I’m educating. When I speak, I’m building. It’s all part of who I am in Christ.”

As an apostolic leader, she is passionate about awakening believers to their divine identity and kingdom assignments. “An apostle is a builder,” she explains. “We don’t just build churches; we build people. We help them discover the ‘why’ of their lives.”

Dr. Venner maintains that every believer is called to ministry, not just a select few. “We’ve made ministry something elite. But according to Mark 16 and Matthew 28, every believer is sent. Apostolic ministry revives that understanding. It gives people urgency to do something with what they’ve been given.”

Her message challenges religious tradi tions that stifle the supernatural move of God. “We’ve built churches that function like threelegged stools. We’ve embraced pastors and teachers but neglected apostles and prophets. As a result, we’ve creat ed religious routines rather than Kingdom movements.”

Dr. Venner continues to encourage believers to en counter God in life-trans forming ways through her new Live Podcast

Her which will air on Wednes days.

THE COST OF OBEDIENCE

A widow, after 44 years of marriage, Dr. Venner walked through grief with grace. “I asked God, ‘Who am I now?’

IF YOU REJECT SOMEONE LONG ENOUGH, THE OUTWORKING OF A REJECTED PERSON IS REBELLION. SO, MY TEEN YEARS WERE VERY TUMULTUOUS BECAUSE I FELT LIKE NO ONE LOVED ME.

And I cried, and I mourned. But God walked me through every stage.”

Even in loss, she chose to obey. When she felt led to move from Wisconsin to Texas, she began shipping her belongings home—just two weeks before airports shut down due to the COVID-19 pan-

demic. “It was divine timing,” she says. “God was ahead of me.”

Her obedience has birthed ministry expressions like The Gate Revival Community, a gathering space for worship, healing, and deliverance, and Innovate Summit, an Apostolic hub for leaders. Her latest initiative, InnovateHer Summit, is a powerful women’s conference launching May 15–17, 2025, at the Global Spheres Center, Corinth, TX, with a special focus on widows. “Widows are a forgotten population,” she says. “God told me: Don’t charge them anything. Just encourage them to get there.”

WRITING WITH PURPOSE

WE’VE BUILT CHURCHES THAT FUNCTION LIKE THREE-LEGGED STOOLS. WE’VE EMBRACED PASTORS AND TEACHERS BUT NEGLECTED APOSTLES AND PROPHETS. AS A RESULT, WE’VE CREATED RELIGIOUS ROUTINES RATHER THAN KINGDOM MOVEMENTS.

Each book unveils a fresh dimension of the Kingdom—whether it’s understanding spiritual gifts, operating in the supernatural, or reclaiming leadership identity. “My goal is to awaken people to who they are in Him,” Dr. Venner shares, “and to help them manifest both the power and fruit of the Spirit.” Her books are informative and transformational, offering practical applications to help readers integrate the principles mentioned into their daily lives.

SELF-CARE AND BALANCE

Despite her intense travel and ministry schedule, Dr. Venner prioritizes selfcare and spiritual rhythm. Her mornings begin with prayer, and her evenings are reserved for rest. She honors the principle of Sabbath, affirming, “God created rest—we need to follow His example.”

Intentional about boundaries, she guards her personal space. “I don’t take calls before 9 AM. That’s my sacred time with God,” she shares. She also avoids late-night meetings, stays mindful of her diet, and takes annual sabbaticals to write, rest, and reset. “When my body says rest, I listen.”

VISION FOR THE FUTURE

Dr. Venner’s vision for the future is as expansive as her faith. She’s currently writing multiple manuscripts, preparing

new coaching programs, and laying the groundwork to launch a university. “I’ll be the Chancellor,” she says with quiet certainty. “That’s where God is taking me.”

Her educational roots are being reborn in this new season. With a PhD in Urban Education, she is building an institution that will equip students spiritually, academically, and practically for impactful Kingdom work.

At the heart of her mission is a singular focus: helping people discover their divine why. “If God only made one of you, then there’s something in you the world needs,” she declares. “My job is to help you see it, believe it, and walk in it.”

When asked how she keeps going, Dr. Venner smiles, “As long as I’m living, I know there’s purpose left to fulfill.”

In Dr. Venner Alston, we witness a life fully yielded, a heart ignited by destiny, and a leader boldly advancing the Kingdom of God. Her journey is a clarion call to us all: Obey God. Know who you are. And walk boldly into the life He created just for you.

Larissa and Anna Goloubova

DECODING HIDDEN TRUTHS IN SCRIPTURE

Larissa and Anna Goloubova have stepped into a remarkable calling—one that bridges ancient wisdom and modern revelation. This dynamic mother-daughter duo is shedding new light on Scripture through the lens of the Biblical Name Code, a divine system of encoded truth revealed through the spiritual meanings of names in the Bible. Together, they are preserving sacred truths and awakening readers to a transformative message: the Kingdom of God is within.

HOLY LAND AWAKENING

Larissa’s spiritual journey into biblical decoding began with a powerful encounter in the heart of Jerusalem. In 2007, while visiting The Chain of Generations Center, an art museum located in the Western Wall tunnel, she felt an overwhelming spiritual presence near the site traditionally believed to be the Holy of Holies. It was there she prayed a bold and life-altering prayer: “God, use me for Your Kingdom and Your Glory.”

That sacred moment became the catalyst for a divine assignment—one that would grow into a 15-year journey of meticulous biblical research, spiritual discovery, and the birth of her first book, The Bible in Names Truth Decoded.

GROUNDBREAKING REVELATION

Upon returning to Canada, Larissa began receiving books on Hebrew names and dictionaries that decoded their meanings in

Scripture—resources she hadn’t actively sought. As she prayed, the Holy Spirit revealed a profound truth: although the Bible has been “translated, commentated on, reviewed and changed by religious authorities many times,” the names in the Bible “remained untouched and unchanged.”

Under divine guidance, she began to read the Bible by linking together the spiritual meanings of names in sequence. The result was astonishing. As Larissa explains: “The Biblical names have multidimensional meanings that are associated with divinity,” she explains. “They have sacral powers and are worthy of spiritual devotion. The names reveal profound spiritual truths and amazing revelations of God’s great hidden message. By stringing the meanings of the names together, as beautiful pearls on the thread, it became a fantastic revelation inspired by the Holy Spirit of God, which reveals the Divine Holistic remedy for every human suffering.”

A SACRED LANGUAGE OF TRUTH

At the core of Larissa’s work is the belief that biblical names are more than historical markers—they are vessels of divine energy and encoded wisdom. In The Bible in Names Truth Decoded, she presents her findings from all 66 books of the Bible, translated through the Name Code. The result is a cohesive spiritual narrative revealing humanity’s divine origins and the inward transformation needed to attain higher consciousness.

Larissa also believes that the human body itself is a mirror of divine architecture. “The Temple of Solomon represents the human body,” she reveals. “The Place of the Holy of Holies is the head, and the Ark of the Covenant is the brain—our point of connection with God’s spiritual energy.” She bases this belief in Luke 17:21 (KJV): “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”

AWAKENING CHRIST CONSCIOUSNESS

Larissa’s book provides actionable practices for readers to awaken Christ consciousness, access spiritual energy, and embrace divine healing. “The Bible was written using allegories, parables, and symbols based on the human body,” she explains. “Once you decode these messages, you will see that it’s not about ancient history—it’s about your spiritual journey today.”

This transformational lens empowers believers to view Scripture not merely as a rulebook, but as a living, breathing roadmap for enlightenment.

A FAMILY MISSION

Though Larissa stands at the forefront of this work, her daughter Anna is an essential collaborator. Anna’s prophetic and spiritual artwork enhances the Name Code message by giving visual life to abstract revelations.

(L_R) Artwork by Anna Goloubova: The Tree of Joy, Transfiguration, and New Earth.

“Anna has been my inspiration,” Larissa shares. “Her prophetic art and her spiritual insight have enriched this journey. This message is for generations, and she represents the next.”

Anna also assisted with writing and publishing The Bible in Names Truth Decoded—a labor of love developed alongside Hemingway Publishers. Together, this mother-daughter team has created a powerful, multigenerational voice committed to sharing sacred knowledge through research, visual expression, and divine revelation.

Their website offers a rich array of resources including educational articles and insights into the Name Code. From educational articles to visual insights and spiritual guidance, the platform serves as a hub for seekers who want to understand Scripture on a deeper level. They also connect with readers on Facebook and Instagram.

NAVIGATING CRITICISM WITH GRACE

With any unconventional approach comes skepticism, but Larissa meets criticism with humility and strength.

“My work challenges conventional interpretations,” she acknowledges. “But the truth always rises. I invite people not to take my word for it—study, pray, and experience the revelation for yourself.”

Her academic rigor, spiritual discipline, and unwavering faith offer a unique synthesis of scholarly exploration and divine encounter—challenging long-held assumptions while honoring the sacred text.

LIVING IN DIVINE ORDER

Amidst the research, writing, and speaking engagements, Larissa is intentional about balance. “I live my life in Divine Order, meaning that I put God as my priority and then everything else falls into place,” she affirms.

She draws strength from Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge him and He shall direct your paths.” Her daily routine

includes prayer, meditation, art, and time spent reflecting on the light of the Holy Spirit. “Self-care for me means staying aligned with God,” she says. “When that’s in place, everything else follows.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

Larissa’s journey is far from over. She is currently diving into deeper revelations, including what she describes as research into the “Macrocosm and Microcosm of the Universe” and the hidden “cellular and atomic” messages in Scripture. “The Bible has hidden truth about the invisible subatomic and cellular levels of our bodies,” she says. “The Bible consists of the cosmic wisdom that will free humanity from suffering and bondage.”

Her upcoming second book promises to reveal “even more shocking truths about our healing, enlightenment and transformation.”

Larissa and Anna are more than authors and artists—they are messengers. Through The Bible in Names Truth Decoded, they offer insight and activation. Their work is

a prophetic call to remember who we are, where we come from, and what sacred truth lies encoded within our very being. Their message is simple yet profound: The Kingdom of God is within you. And through the lens of the Name Code, the mysteries of heaven are no longer hidden—they are ready to be unveiled.

HOW AI TOOLS HELP ME BECOME A MORE EFFICIENT WRITER

Writing is both an art and a discipline. It requires creativity, structure, and persistence. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just starting, you’ve likely encountered writer’s block—the dreaded wall that halts progress and drains inspiration. I’ve certainly experienced it. In the past, it would take me ages to push through, leaving me disheartened and defeated. But that has changed dramatically. Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI), my writing process has become more efficient and enjoyable.

AI tools have not only helped me overcome writer’s block but also given me back one of the most valuable commodities—time. The extra time I save allows me to focus on other priorities or simply relax and recharge. With the ever-growing number of AI tools available, it can be overwhelming to choose the right one. Some tools require a paid subscription, while others offer powerful free versions. It was a close race for me, but I’ve narrowed it down to two AI tools that I rely on the most: ChatGPT and Artisly.ai.

CHATGPT: MY TRUSTED AI WRITING ASSISTANT

ChatGPT has become an indispensable part of my writing routine. Having used it long enough, it has learned my tone and style, making it an effective writing partner. Whether I need help brainstorming ideas, structuring an article, or refining my wording, ChatGPT provides valuable assistance.

Here’s how ChatGPT helps me:

● Generating Ideas: Sometimes, the hardest part of writing is knowing where to start. ChatGPT helps me brainstorm topics, angles, and themes for my articles.

● Overcoming Writer’s Block: When my creativity stalls, I can ask ChatGPT to provide an outline, suggest transitions, or even draft a few sentences to get me moving again.

● Refining My Writing: From improving sentence structure to suggesting better word choices, ChatGPT helps elevate

Photo

the quality of my work while ensuring clarity and coherence.

● Enhancing Research: AI can summarize complex topics, provide references, and even fact-check information to strengthen my writing.

● Saving Time: Instead of spending hours stuck on a paragraph, I can quickly move forward with AI-generated suggestions, which I then personalize to match my unique voice.

● Editing and Proofreading: ChatGPT assists with grammar, punctuation, and overall readability, acting as an extra pair of eyes to refine my work before publication.

● Writing in Different Styles and Tones: Sometimes, I need to adjust my tone depending on the audience. ChatGPT helps me modify my writing to sound more formal, conversational, persuasive, or even poetic.

● Formatting Assistance: AI can help structure content into well-organized sections, making it easier for readers to follow.

One of the most powerful aspects of ChatGPT is its adaptability. The more I use it, the better it understands my preferences, making it feel less like a machine and more like a personal assistant who knows my writing style inside and out.

ARTISLY.AI: CREATING ENGAGING IMAGES FOR MY WRITING

A great article or book isn’t just about the words—it’s also about the visuals. Eye-catching and engaging images can make a piece more appealing, and that’s where Artisly.ai comes in. This AI-powered image generation tool helps me create high-quality visuals that complement my writing and enhance the reader’s experience.

Here’s why I love using Artisly.ai:

● Customization: I can generate unique, high-resolution images tailored to my content’s theme.

● Time Efficiency: Instead of searching through stock photo websites, I can create the perfect image in minutes.

● Professional Appeal: Artisly.ai’s AI-generated images give my work a polished,

professional look without requiring design skills.

● Creative Freedom: I can experiment with different styles, colors, and compositions to bring my ideas to life visually.

● Cost-Effective: Compared to hiring a graphic designer, using AI for visuals is an affordable and accessible alternative.

● Consistency Across Branding: If I need a series of related images for a project, I can maintain a consistent look and feel with AI-generated visuals.

You may never know how the next chapter of your life will unfold. But as you live with the perspective that you are here on this earth to serve, rather than be served, you might be surprised about what will happen next. This is how the story of Felicia Lucas unfolded and VBD Magazine is honored to share the journey of our featured author, speaker, coach and award-winning publisher with you.

Born and raised in North Carolina, USA, young Felicia accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the tender age of 12 and grew up in the church. Throughout her teenage years, she experienced tumultuous seasons which almost took her life. By God’s grace and power, she overcame her struggles and lives to inspire others, emboldened by her faith. She graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Speech Communication. Blessed with a beautiful love story, she has been married to Kelvin Lucas for 28 years. Their union produced three children and as a family, they all serve in ministry together. Kelvin and Felicia are the co-founders of a non-profit organization which focuses on youth and young adult empowerment.

IMPACT IN THE WORLD OF PUBLISHING

Felicia’s empowering journey prompted her to pen her first book in 2016, entitled Make It Happen - Moving Towards Your Best U. Her insightful message inspires readers to set spiritual, physical and professional goals they can achieve, setting them on the trajectory to a bright, new vision of their lives. During one of her book promotion engagements, one of her audience members asked her for help with writing her book. Surprised by this audacious request to help bring this woman’s vision to life, Felicia presented her with a proposal, and she became her first client. Her “yes” opened the door for so many others to write and publish their books of inspiration, empowerment and encouragement.

I remember the first time that I created a social media post concerning my first book, Make it Happen - Moving Towards Your Best U. In this book I shared some of my deepest and most intimate times and I was really afraid of what people would think about me when they read my story. I was afraid of the looks I might get from others. I was afraid of their opinion of me. The night on which I was about to post on Facebook to invite others to purchase my book, I remember literally being frozen as my finger touched the keyboard. Every part of me was afraid of the unknown. That was the turning point in my life! I moved forward and have not looked back!”

Recognizing that she could not do this on her own, she sought the support of a Health Coach who not only helped her achieve her weight loss goals but surpassed them.

While many faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, a laser-focused commitment emerged in Felicia’s heart to help others succeed in their own weight loss journeys as well. This transformation became a source of inspiration for others to live their best lives, leading to the empowerment of countless individuals to achieve their own goals.

Her foundation was built through the Cornell University Women in Entrepreneurship Program, a program that provides access to knowledge and resources to build and scale successful businesses. All her literary works will outlive her, and that is the legacy she wants to leave.

VICTORIOUS BY DESIGN Oasis INSPIRATION

There’s something about learning that stirs my soul. Maybe it’s because I come from a line of women who knew the value of education—women who understood that knowledge was not just power, but freedom. Learning produces growth, and growth blossoms into wisdom.

My grandmother, the late Missionary L. B. Ford, used to say with a voice as steady as an old oak tree, “When a person stops having a desire to learn, he or she dies within.” And you know, those words have never left me.

As the great-great-granddaughter of Rosie Thomas, a woman so committed to education that she would hitch up her buggy and carry children to church-school in Grand Cane, Louisiana, I’ve always known that learning isn’t just something we do when we sit behind a desk — it’s a way of life. Rosie wasn’t just teaching ABCs; she was building futures and character, deepening the desire for wisdom, creating a legacy of learning, one dusty road at a time.

I often think about 2 Timothy 2:15, where the Word reminds us, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Now, if that doesn’t speak to the necessity of study and learning, I don’t know what does. God Himself encourages us to study—not only for knowledge’s sake, but so we can live lives that reflect His truth in excellence.

THE POWER OF EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING

GREW IN WISDOM AND STATURE, AND IN FAVOR WITH GOD AND MAN” (LUKE 2:52).

And let me tell you something—education is not just formal schooling. It is a daily decision to grow, to seek, and to knock. It’s what Jesus meant when He said in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Jesus made it clear to His disciples that whatever we desire to know is available to us — but requires action on our part.

Learning is an action. It is an intentional act requiring faith and it never stops, yet most people only equate it with school and being young. Some think there are certain requirements or barriers to learning — but I’m here to dismantle that thinking. You don’t ever stop learning. Not when you get older, when you earn a degree, or when you reach a milestone — in fact, each of these is a reason to keep learning.

HE STRETCHES US BEYOND WHAT WE THINK WE CAN BEAR — BUT IN THAT STRETCHING IS GROWTH AND HIGHER UNDERSTANDING. LEARNING OFTEN PRESENTS US WITH STRUGGLES BUT IN THE MIDST OF THE STRUGGLES IS KNOWLEDGE.

alive, you have a responsibility to keep learning — and to understand what you’ve learned so well, that it becomes the tool by which you teach others.”

Why? Because learning gives life. It keeps us fresh, sharp, and ready for every good work. Proverbs 18:15 says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.” So, if you are truly wise, you’ll keep seeking. You’ll keep asking God

I remember sitting in my master’s program in Religious Education, and there were days when I felt like my brain couldn’t hold another thing. But then I would think back to my grandmother’s words. I would think about Rosie Thomas making sure that Black children got to a schoolhouse when so many others wouldn’t even consider the effort. I would think about Missionary L. B. Ford, who spent countless years teaching Sunday School classes filled with young men who would grow up to become pastors and world intellectuals. And I would say to myself, “Danyelle, as long as you are

to show you more — not just about the world, but about yourself, about others, about His kingdom, and about His divine purpose for your life.

Let me ask you this: When was the last time you learned something that changed your perspective? When was the last time you read something in the Word or a book that gave you a new lens to see your situation? Have you ever learned something that made you feel humbled because you didn’t know it before? Have you ever felt like what you were learning was too much for your “old” mind to handle?

Well, beloved, learning isn’t always easy.

Sometimes it shatters myths and destroys traditions. Sometimes it pushes and it pulls. God takes us through life lessons that hurt before they heal. He stretches us beyond what we think we can bear — but in that stretching is growth and higher understanding. Learning often presents us with struggles but in the midst of the struggles is knowledge. And sometimes while learning we endure failures, but it is when we fail, we learn lessons meant to shape and build us.

Whether you understand this or not…living is learning. Every day that you are alive, is another day to participate in the school of life. In this school, you’ll learn that the greatest lessons aren’t easy to come by and the hardest lessons are those you never forget.

My prayer today is that we will become students of life — ever growing, ever

learning, and ever seeking God’s wisdom. Because when we stop desiring to learn, we stop truly living. So, I challenge you — pick up that book, ask that question, take that class, and sit at the feet of someone wiser than you. And don’t be ashamed to say, “Teach me.” Because even Jesus, though He was fully God, “grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). If Jesus Himself saw value in growing, how much more should we?

I’ll leave you with this: Never let life make you so tired, so distracted, or so content that you stop learning. Your purpose depends on your willingness to grow. And if you ever forget, just remember my grandmother’s words: “When a person stops having a desire to learn, he or she dies within.”

Let’s choose to live — fully, passionately, and forever learning.

THE LASTING IMPACT OF LIFELONG LEARNING

A FAITH-BASED PERSPECTIVE

The journey to Lifelong learning influences not only our intellect but also our faith, character, and purpose. As believers, we are to seek wisdom continually, knowing that God is the ultimate source of all knowledge. Proverbs 4:7 (KJV) reminds us, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Learning is not just an academic pursuit—it is an act of faith that draws us closer to God and helps us grow into the people He created us to be.

Reading and writing are one of the most effective ways we can participate in lifelong learning. Books, especially Scripture, increase our knowledge, deepen our faith, and challenge our perceptions. Alternatively, writing allows us to process what we learn, reflect on our spiritual journey, and leave a legacy for future generations. As we develop the discipline of lifelong learning, we strengthen our minds and we equip ourselves to serve God more effectively.

LEARNING AS A REFLECTION OF GOD’S WISDOM

Throughout Scripture, God calls His people to pursue wisdom. In James 1:5 (KJV), we are urged, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” Learning is a spiritual discipline, not just an intellectual exercise. When we devote ourselves to gaining knowledge, we honor God by stewarding the minds He has given us.

Even Jesus, in His earthly life, demonstrated the significance of learning. As a child, He was found in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening and asking questions (Luke 2:46-47). If Jesus, the Son of God, exhibited a desire for wisdom, how much more should we nurture a disposition for lifelong learning? Learning keeps us spiritually and intellectually engaged.

THE ROLE OF READING IN SPIRITUAL AND PERSONAL GROWTH

Reading has always been a keystone of learning, and for believers, it is one of the

most effective ways to grow in faith. The Bible itself is the bedrock of our spiritual education. As Paul instructed in Colossians 3:16 (KJV), “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.” Through Scripture, we gain understanding of God’s character, His promises, and His guidance for our lives.

Christian literature, biographies of faith leaders, and devotional writings provide additional perspectives that challenge and inspire us. Books enable us to learn from the experiences of others, increasing our understanding and strengthening our faith.

WRITING AS A TOOL FOR REFLECTION AND GROWTH

Writing is not only a method of communication but also a potent tool for self-reflection and spiritual growth. Throughout the Bible, writing was used to preserve wisdom, document divine revelations, and encourage others in faith. Many of Paul’s letters were written to teach, correct, and strengthen the early church—letters that continue to impact believers today.

Journaling is one practical way to use writing as a tool for personal and spiritual development. Recording

prayers, lessons from Scripture, and personal reflections allows us to track our growth and recognize God’s hand in our lives. Writing also helps clarify our thoughts, making it easier to apply what we have learned.

For those who feel called, writing can also be a way to teach and encourage others. Whether through blogging, publishing devotionals, or simply writing letters of encouragement, sharing our faith through words can have a lasting impact. As Proverbs 3:3 (KJV) advises, “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.”

THE LASTING IMPACT OF LIFELONG LEARNING

The benefits of lifelong learning extend beyond personal growth—they shape the legacy we leave behind. When we commit to continuous learning, we become wiser, more compassionate, and more effective in serving others. Our pursuit of knowledge and faith can inspire future generations to do the same.

By prioritizing reading and writing, we create a habit of reflection and learning that will benefit us for years to come. Whether we are deepening our understanding of Scripture, learning from the experiences of others, or journaling our spiritual insights, we are engaging in a process that transforms both our minds and hearts.

A PRACTICAL CHALLENGE

To put these principles into practice, consider setting a goal for your own lifelong learning journey:

1. Commit to Daily Reading – Set aside time each day to read and reflect on what you’ve learned.

2. Start a Faith Journal – Write down key takeaways from your reading, prayers, and reflections on how God is working in your life.

3. Share What You Learn – Whether through discussions, social media, or writing letters, encourage others by sharing the wisdom you gain.

By embracing the habit of lifelong learning, you will not only grow in knowledge but also strengthen your faith and impact those around you. As 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) urges, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” May we all commit to this journey with diligence, knowing that each lesson learned draws us closer to the wisdom and purpose of God.

LIFELONG LEARNING

Iremember as a child saying, “I can’t wait until school is out; I’m so tired of homework.” Later, I would think, “Once I finish high school, I won’t have to learn anything else.” Then came college, and I said, “I’m done with school, my brain is exhausted.” Was it just me, or did anyone else feel the same way growing up? Some of you might even feel that way now. Little did I know, life is full of opportunities to learn, it’s a constant part of our journey.

When I started my job after college, I had to undergo several training classes. When I wanted to improve my cooking skills, I learned how to follow detailed recipes. Then, I decided to revisit a childhood hobby, and that meant learning how to

read crochet patterns. It seemed that for everything I wanted to do, there was always something to learn in order to do it well. One of my colleagues once said, “For someone who’s tired of school, you sure are taking a lot of training courses. Looks like you’ve finally realized that learning is a lifelong commitment.” I laughed and said, “You sound just like my mother.” She would always tell me, “If you stop learning, you stop growing. If you stop growing, you stop living. And if you stop living, well, you know what comes next.”

As an adult, I have come to embrace learning. Whether it’s reading instructions, picking up a new dance, experimenting with a new recipe, or learning a new song, opportunities to learn are

everywhere. Whether personal or professional, it’s an inevitable part of life. Learning becomes something wonderful when you change your perspective. I now see it as a chance to improve myself, rather than just another task or burden placed upon me.

I even find myself sharing the same lessons my parents taught me with my nieces and nephews, hoping that one day, they too will see learning as a lifelong opportunity for self-improvement and pass that belief down to their children. Contrary to the saying, “You can’t teach an old dog a new trick,” we can all learn something new every day, as long as we are open to it.
