Our site teams are fully health & safety trained and each Site Supervisor has SSSTS, first aid, SEATS, PASMA and IPAF, plus relevant training for all tasks on site.

We are members of Acclaim Accreditation and have Constructionline Gold status.

We carry out all our own groundworks, but can also work with contractors on site who wish to make this part of their own package of works. In this instance we will provide setting out drawings for this element of the build. There is no disconnect between what the job requires and what is delivered.

Our Service: From Design to Completion 1. Enquiry

Your experience with the canopy experts starts from the moment you send us your enquiry which you can send direct to Josh, our Projects Account Manager by email or post: josh@ablecanopies.co.uk Able Canopies Ltd., 9-11 Faraday Close, Gorse Lane Industrial Estate, Clacton on Sea, Essex, CO15 4TR Once we've received the enquiry, we will take a look through the documents provided and determine whether one of our standard products fit the spec, or if a bespoke structure would be best suited.

2. Estimate

If our standard products have been specified, we will reply with a formal estimate.

However, if a bespoke product is required, we may contact you to discuss our product proposals that match your design requirements.

Once everyone's happy with the design, we will also send a formal estimate.

3. Site Meetings

We are more than happy to attend any site meetings to discuss the design further if required. We are fully trained and certified to be on construction sites and hold all the required certifications which you can read more about on page 3.

If your an architect working on a project, get in touch

with us now so we can advise what products will work in your design. This will save lots of time during construction by ensuring the canopy works with the building.

4. Order

Once you place your order, we will arrange a pre site meeting – to assess the area, discover access, equipment needed and work with you to ensure our works will fit perfectly with your planned schedule.

We can provide all drawings required including 'setting out' drawings if you are providing foundations.

5. Installation

After all details are approved and signed off, the installation will be booked in at a date that suits all parties involved. Again, at this point if you require us to attend any site meetings, we are happy to do so.

All necessary RAMS will be

forwarded before commencement on site for approval. The installation will be completed, and we'll keep you up to date with our progress.

6. After Sales Service

Our service will not end with the installation. Upon completion, we can attend a sign-off meeting if required.

We will also send the guarantee certificate (if applicable) and the after sales pack, both of these are for the end user so they can maintain the canopy to ensure the validation of the guarantee.

Flexible Design The Coniston can be manufactured to fit around the shape of a building, enabling it to cover the whole buildings’ perimeter if required.

Wall Beam The aluminium wall beam will achieve 2.5° to 45°, giving you maximum scope at the back of the canopy.

Case Study: Croydon University Hospital Location: Thornton Heath, London Product: Two Coniston Wall Mounted Entrance Canopies Size: 6m x 3.2m and 3m x 3.2m Installation Date: November 2020 Contractor: Foley Building Contractors The Brief In April 2012, we supplied and installed a commercial awning within the hospital garden at Croydon University Hospital in Thornton Heath, London to provide shade to their young patients.

Fast forward to September 2020 when Foley Building Contractors were working on a project at the hospital which is run by the Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.

Part of their works required several canopies to provide shade and shelter for their patients and visitors whilst queueing outside due to the social distancing measures that were in place. Because the summer had come to an end and the wintery weather was on the way, these canopies were needed with a quick turnaround.

The Solution Just a couple of days after the initial enquiry, we were on site conducting a site survey to enable us to provide the contractor with a firm quotation. We provided them with a price for four Coniston Wall Mounted Canopies; two for their Elective Care and Heart Centre and then another two for their COVID-19 testing units.

It was agreed that the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy was the perfect

solution for all areas as the hospital walls were suitable for fixing a canopy to, and the Coniston is a cost effective yet long lasting, robust structure. It is supplied with a 10 year guarantee and the roof panels feature a UV coating which stops the panels from yellowing over time, keeping them looking as good as new, and provides high UV protection to those waiting underneath.

Once the quotes were received, an order was placed for a 6m x 3.2m Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy at the Elective Centre and a 3m x 3.2m Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy the Heart Centre.

The other two canopies were put on hold as their budget only allowed for the two canopies that were highest on their priority list at the time.

The entrance to the Heart Centre had an angled corner, which wasn't a problem for our Coniston Wall Mounted canopy because we can manufacture the wall plate to fit the shape of the building, following both internal and external recesses.

Originally, the contractor asked for the canopy at the entrance of the Elective Centre to have a 2.6m projection however, we suggested increasing it to

the maximum projection that the Coniston offers which is 6m to allow for maximum queuing space. This means it could keep more patients and visitors sheltered whilst keeping a safe distance. It would also help to keep the walkway that leads to the Heart Centre clear.

The Installation The hospital required the installation to be carried out during the evenings as these are their quietest times and it would therefore cause minimal disruption. We installed the canopies over three evenings in November 2020 as scheduled and all went smoothly.

The contractor and staff at the hospital were so pleased with the canopies that they immediately placed an order for the other two canopies which we went onto install in January 2021.* These two additional canopies provide shelter to their drive-in COVID testing unit and drivein COVID waiting area. *See page 15 for installation photos

Case Study: Ickenham Clinic Location: Uxbridge, London Product: Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy Size: 15m x 1.7m extending to 2.6m Installation Date: July 2020 Contractor: GD Construction, Hertfordshire The Brief In February 2020, we were approached by GD Construction who we have worked with in the past; they were working on a project at Ickenham Clinic in Uxbridge, London for Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. The clinic had an existing canopy which was supplied by a different supplier, yet it had received extensive wind damage and they were therefore looking to replace it.

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust were keen to replace the canopy promptly, so we needed to supply the estimated costs swiftly.

The Solution Upon receiving images of the area and dimensions required, we were able to send a full estimate to GD Construction which they were happy with. We supplied them with costs to remove the existing structure and replace it with our popular Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy.

The roof panels also feature a UV coating which is coextruded onto them during the manufacturing process to stop the panels from yellowing over time due to sun exposure.

All parties involved agreed that the Coniston was the perfect shade and shelter solution. We arranged a presite meeting to go through the finer details and to allow us to supply a firm quotation so that an order could be officially raised.

Because the Coniston is a wall mounted structure, it had a similar appearance to their previous canopy, yet it features a strong and robust construction. The frame is manufactured completely

2020 however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NHS trust requested to put the job on hold until they were happy to proceed. Once social distancing restrictions were relaxed, the contractor touched base and booked the installation for July 2020.

The canopy was installed over two days as scheduled and there were no problems along the way. The clinic can now make use of their new canopy, which is not only safe to use, but is also larger than their previous structure and features a full 10 year guarantee for complete peace of mind.

The canopy also comes in extremely handy for the clinic as their patients can take a socially distanced seat outside whilst waiting for their appointments and keeping protected from the weather at the same time.

Case Study: Hillingdon Hospital Location: Uxbridge, London Product: 6no. Coniston Wall Mounted Canopies Size: 1no: 16.2m x 2.7-6m and 5no: 5.6m x 2.5m Canopy Modifications: Rear Posts and Planter Boxes Canopy Colour: Hipca White RAL 9910 Planter Boxes Colour: Signal Blue RAL 5005 Installation Date: December 2020 Consultants: The Blue Iris Partnership

The Brief Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge, London were undergoing a refurbishment and required additional facilities to help keep their patients, staff and visitors dry and sheltered when arriving and leaving the hospital.

The project, which was managed by Kier Construction and Blue Iris Partnerships, included a number of canopies along the entrance to their emergency department where patients and ambulances arrive 24/7.

Although Able Canopies were not specified on the drawings created by the Architect at Murphy Philips LLP, Kier Construction were keen to put Able Canopies forward and explained to the

Architect that we are well known to them, we’re already on their supply chain. And we have previously worked together on many projects which would speed up the procurement process.

A speedy installation was an important factor, because the hospital had an ever increasing need for outside cover due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Their staff, patients and visitors had to wait outside more frequently due to the current restrictions in place.

The Solution When putting our product forward to the Architect, Kier Construction explained that while our product wasn't specified, the main features were in fact equal to the specified product and are

designed for use in commercial settings, making it the perfect solution.

This product is the Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy which is an extremely versatile, commercial grade structure that met all the features required by both the Architect and the hospital including: A mono-pitch structure, integral guttering and drainage to the ground floor with no visible gutters, constructed from 100% noncorrosive material (aluminium) and a nonfragile polycarbonate roof system.

Even though the Coniston is a wall mounted structure, some of the canopies detailed in this project needed to be free standing as the existing ramp that the

canopy would cover is a distance from the wall. This was not an issue as the Coniston can be installed with rear posts transforming it into a free standing canopy.

The final design consisted of six Coniston Wall Mounted Canopies connected to create a bespoke walkway from the bottom of the existing ramp leading up to and including the A&E departments' main entrance.

As shown in the drawing on page 4, the design featured odd shapes, with lots of level changes however, this is exactly what the Coniston was made for and it was therefore easily achieved. The order was placed by Blue Iris Partnership, the consultants that were working on the project.

The Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy posts usually require installation into concrete pads below the surface of the ground however, due to the ramp being elevated with no possibility of digging foundations, these needed to

be surface mounted. We therefore used steel planters measuring 500mm x 500mm

to the hospital and to ensure the installation ran smoothly.

x 1250mm filled with concrete to combat this issue. All calculated by the structural engineer to ensure the canopies complied to wind & snow loadings.

The canopy was installed over the space of 10 days and included night, day and weekend work to accommodate keeping key sections of the hospital open whilst the canopies were being installed.

The Installation We were the main contractor for the canopy installation and so all aspects of health and safety and site setup was organised and managed by Able Canopies. We attended multiple pre-construction site meetings in the lead up to the installation. This ensured the site provided safe pedestrian and vehicle access

All parties involved with the project were happy with the end result and the product installed by Able Canopies.

We were particularly pleased with the result including the very quick turnaround achieved from inception to completion, especially given the complexity of the job.

Case Study: St Helier Hospital Location: Sutton, London Product: Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy Size: 15m x 3.9m Installation Date: August 2019 Contractor: PG Marshall and Sons Ltd. The Brief PG Marshall and Sons Ltd. were working on a project at St Helier Hospital for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. They were relocating the Davis (outpatient) unit which included a portable building that required weather protection over the disability access ramp and pathway leading to the unit.

They also needed the canopy to connect the Davis Unit to Ferguson House (the main building), which already had a small cantilevered canopy that the hospital trust were keen to keep in place.

The Solution The two buildings that required connecting via a canopy had a fairly awkward space in between due to the buildings not being equally parallel to one another.

Following the original design drawings, it was clear that the perfect solution would be the popular Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy.

The Coniston is a cost effective yet, robust and long lasting canopy which is constructed from aluminium and is covered with 35mm structured polycarbonate roof panels that are 200 times stronger than glass,

protect from over 98% of harmful UV rays generated by the sun and will not discolour over time unlike alternative panels on the market.

In order to install the canopy within the awkward space whilst still providing shelter from both building entrances, we kept the height of the canopy low enough so that it could fit underneath the existing cantilevered entrance canopy. We were able to do this whilst keeping the height of the canopy more than adequate for any persons walking underneath.

In addition, where the new canopy fits underneath the existing canopy, to avoid using a post which would have been an issue because the foundations would have

been too close of the building, we designed a bracket to fix the front of the canopy to the wall instead.

The Installation Although the Coniston requires installation onto a suitable wall. We have been installing this popular canopy onto portable buildings for many years and have done so by designing brackets especially for installation onto these types of temporary buildings to ensure a safe and robust installation.

The canopy installation went ahead as planned. The end result was a 15m x 4m Coniston Wall Mounted Canopy attached to the Davis Unit which meets the existing concrete canopy on Ferguson House.

The pathway and ramps are now covered from the weather and patients, staff and visitors can comfortably move from one building to the other during the wet weather, whilst keeping dry.
