“BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD”. This is probably one of the most difficult tasks for a Christian to accomplish. We boast of our faith but tend to meddle in the affairs that God wants to fix for us. Instead of waiting on the Lord to move, we try to figure it out. We even come up with ways that make perfect sense, but at the end of it we find that we made the problem worst.

While I’m Waiting

Recently I was feeling stressed. I started looking at where all this stress was coming from and how I would deal with it. The easy answer I arrived at was to just get rid of all that was causing me stress. I set out to execute my plan, “Operation Goodbye Stress”, only to hit road blocks set by God. He saw the mistake I was about to make in walking away from these situations. He wanted me to complete my process. The Lord ministered to me in no uncertain terms: “Men Be Still”

the theme for the Born Again United Church’s Men’s Conference 2012. This was so appropriate and lined up with what God wanted me to do. Word after word came, until finally I accepted it and said, “I will be still Lord. I wont be governed by my emotions or my situation.” I came back to Jamaica and went to church the Sunday evening — the word of God just encouraged my soul. Job worshipped after he heard the bad news of losing everything. Paul and Silas praised God despite being whipped and chained in prison. They were being still by looking at their situations and yet praising God. My situation does not compare to that of these men, so I can be still. I was so empowered on Sunday to praise God despite my situation. I went to work on Monday and all of that strength just went out the door. One email made be so upset that I almost lost it. I am however,

grateful that the power of God knows no boundaries and stepped right in and reminded me of the word of God I heard the night before. This is not to say that we should not leave stressful situations, all I am saying is we need to prayerfully seek God when we make decisions especially when our emotions are negative regarding whatever it is we want to leave behind. By doing so, we will move when God wants us to move and not abort our process. Chances are if we do this, that is, abort our process we will have to start all over again. Let praise and thanksgiving be an active part of your life. Whenever your emotions get negative about an individual or thing, think about one good thing that you can attribute to the situation and thank God for that. Don’t just walk away, pray for direction. God bless you.

“And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” - Matthew 6:28 -29 I have always understood that God would provide for me but

my biggest test of that faith and trust came when the division of the company that I worked for was sold. I remember that day clearly, how Murphy’s Law was in full effect. Anything that could go wrong did, and other things that never went wrong before, decided to experiment that day. I was rushing to get home because our Youth Conference started that night and I wanted to make it

to church on time. Upon leaving my job, the news I went home with was that the division was sold to one of our competitors. I was shocked to say the least because this news came out of left field, totally unexpected! What would I do now? For most of my adult life, this was the only place I had ever known. I started out as a part time employee and moved up, holding various

My first reaction to the news was to panic and when I rushed to the ladies’ room, all I could do was hold on to the sink. Before I could open my mouth to ask why, a very clear voice said from somewhere deep within me, “don’t panic, trust God.” I did not hesitate or second guess but held my tears and walked back into my office where I calmly finished my day. After my boss initially told me the news, a few days went by and I heard nothing more, as both parties were working out the final details of the sale. While others in the office were panicky, angry or sad, I remained calm and continued to perform with excellence. I must say that prior to this God led me to read the entire book of Job

in one night. At first I wondered why but as the days passed, I began to understand. After the announcement was made that the deal was final and my division would be no more, I could not help but feel some type of way. I had worked for this division for 8 years and the thought had never entered my mind that this is how things would end.

our things for the last time. I sat down and beneath the table my legs were shaking but the upper half of my body was thoroughly composed as I listened keenly to everything that was said. At the end of it, I left that meeting with the option to either, take a severance package and leave when the division finally closed, stay on with the company, who had 2 other operational divisions or relocate to the new location of my division’s new owners. I was called into the conference room by I was awed to say the least. I thought I was my boss one day and when I went in to entering a meeting to hear when I would have the meeting, the President of the to leave but instead I walked out of that company was also seated at the table. I meeting with options. Isn’t God good? will say that I was nervous as I was unsure K.Dennis, NY what would be said to me. Since the official announcement was made, no one really knew what would happen from there, or when we would be told to pack (Stay tuned for part 2 )

The Righteous Rises after a Fall Though he fall, he shall not utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.” (Psalm 37:23-24).

I had the privilege of reading a book by N.E. Moses this week.. The focus of the book was showcasing great men that fell and how God restored them. Reading it however, had me focused on my life and the lives of those around me. It was a great reminder that when I go through things there are others that have already gone through and are also going through the same thing. The fact that despite my mistakes, I am still extended God’s grace and power, makes me really appreciate this salvation. “For the just man falleth seven times,

and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” (Proverbs 24:16). Because, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

These scriptures are really encouraging, giving us a hope in our Redeemer that in our weakness, He will be our Strength. Likewise as believers, we also have to give a helping hand to our brethren when they fall. According to the word of God, “…if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1) Continued on Page 3

While I’m Waiting: Sexual Issues Affecting the Unmarried. This Book focuses on the issue of premarital sex. In looking at the issue, actual life situations of which I’m familiar with, in story like settings were used to show how sin attacks us subtly and can become strongholds in our lives. The purpose of this project is to have readers see these traps in a practical way and avoid them. As young people and as singles we have to have our eyes open to the wiles of the

evil one. He will use seemingly innocent gestures and things to draw us into immorality. But with our eyes opened we will see these things for what they really are. Although the focus of this project is based on sexual immorality the concepts can be applied to sin in general.

While I’m Waiting: Sexual Issues Affecting the Unmarried…...cont’d Reviews: The reviews so far have been really great. One young lady said to me “I just read Tainted and Flawed: I Don’t Want to Marry You and I am afraid. I am inspired by all that happened to Dean, but seeing this, I have so much to think about because the first part of Dean`s life seems a lot like mine.”

The Righteous Rises after a Fall…. cont’d Instead of seeing ourselves on a sinless pinnacle, we need to be focusing on how we can help in restoring those that fall. Talking ill about them and gossiping does not help, if anything it only harms them, the body and by extension us. We harm ourselves when we speak ill about our brethren. Let us not get into the habit of writing people off. When David fell, God did not write him off, but gave him a chance to rise again. How many chances have you received from God? How many chances have you given to others? Let the man that does not

sin cast the first stone, for everyone of us have sinned. This article is by no means condoning sin for we are not to presumptuously sin just because God’s grace is extended to us. All it is saying is that when the children of God fall—they have His help and because they are helped by Him they need to also help each other.

The Focus Message:

Many times we get discouraged by our situations, and it becomes hard for us to see the good that God is doing for us. The Bible gives us numerous examples, but when faced with the challenges of life, it just seems like all we have learned is just a fantasy and not applicable to us. Today I want to declare to you this is not so. God loves you. Your situation is a molder to get you to your finished product.

We only need to trust God and maintain our integrity, as He always comes through for His people. We should take on the attitude of the three Hebrew boys, who believed that God would save them and even if He didn’t, that He was still God. We all have purposes; however we are not exempt from harsh situations. Christ Himself had to endure hardship to fulfill His purpose: “…Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again…” (Acts 17:3). Some of us, will suffer more than others, but be assured your latter shall be greater. Use the lessons that you learn from your negative situations, to make yourself, your environment and those around you better. We are all a work in progress. Everyday is a new day to be better. The Focus of the A Better Me Newsletter is to do just that, encourage through our bad times. Bad times will come as there is a season to everything, but we were born with the ability to overcome such. Be strong and know that God is with you. Kerry-Ann A. Barrett
