Cao Mengqin: The Bathroom

Cao Mengqin is an artist from China, selected for the box by artist-curator Wei Chen. Mengqin presents The Bathroom - “a highly conceptual poetical interpretation of the seminal novel by Jean-Philippe Toussaint.” Like Cao Mengqin’s work, this novel is both playful and perplexing, a narrative which touches on the difficulties of coping with the minor but proliferating complexities of modern society. Cao Mengqin has taken the linguistic form of story and interpreted the ideas visually, staging each scene of his own daily life as an echo of the tale in which the protagonist refuses to leave his self-imposed exile in his bathroom until an invitation arrives... Cao Mengqin lives and works in Shanghai. He is published by Photo Fiction, New York; has directed concerts in Western Shore Museum, Tianjin and the Central Conservatory of Music ,Beijing; and has produced a photo-installation of Yang Fudong in Zendai Moma, Shanghai. Artist o Tsieina yw Cao Mengqin, a ddetholwyd ar gyfer y blwch gan yr artist-curadur Wei Chen. Mae Mengqin yn cyflwynoThe Bathroom - “dehongliad barddonol hynod gysyniol o’r nofer arloesol gan Jean-Philippe Toussaint.” Fel gwaith Cao Mengqin, mae’r nofel hon yn chwareus ac yn ddyrys, naratif sy’n cyfeirio at yr anawsterau o ymdopi gyda chymhlethdodau dinod ond cynyddol y gymdeithas fodern. Mae Cao Mengqin wedi cymryd y stori a dehongli’r syniadau’n weledol, yn llwyfannu pob golygfa fel adlais o’r hanes lle mae’r prif gymeriad yn gwrthod gadael ei ystafell ymolchi nes bod gwahoddiad yn cyrraedd... Mae Cao Mengqin yn byw ac yn gweithio yn Shanghai. Arddangoswyd ei waith yn Photo Fiction, Efrog Newydd; y Western Shore Museum yn Tianjin; Zendai Moma yn Shanghai a’r Ganolfan Gerdd yn Beijing .
