Kiwanis Family Month Kiwanis Family Month is upon us which means it’s an excellent time to spend some quality time with your Kiwanians. After all, our Kiwanians are the reason that we’re able to achieve all the success we work towards each year. They support us in everything we do and help us realize that all of our dreams are possible. Therefore, we really need to pay them back for all their support. How do we do this? Attend their meetings every once in a while, invite them to your meetings or service projects,etc. Nothing would mean more to them! Every year during Kiwanis Family Month, Jasper High School Key Club attends their Kiwanis Club’s meeting and joins them for lunch. It presents a great opportunity for the Key Clubbers to thank the Kiwanians for all that they’ve done for them. They all sit and talk about what their respective clubs have been doing. At the end of the meeting, the Key Clubbers give a small report on their club so the Kiwanis members are kept updated. Page 5 4

It may not sound like a big deal, but to the Kiwanis members it means the world. As you all know, our district is really pushing Kiwanis Family relations this year, so please try to work on the communication your club has with all the members of the K-Family. There are so many ways to get connected, so why not start now?

Dinner In The Dark Written by Michaela Belcher
It was founded in Louisville, Kentucky in 1984. There are three locations: one in Bloomington, IN, and two in Kentucky, in the cities of Louisville and Lexington. The dinner was held on Thursday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

Guests were served lemonade, lasagna, green beans, and cake, all while eating in the dark. Soft, live music was played in the background for the event. Guests were served their dinner in the dark, and ate their dinner with the lights off as well. The purpose of the lack of light was to raise awareness of what it would be like to be visually impaired. Lebanon High School’s Key Club had a great turnout. They had around 70 people come to the dinner, and made a profit of approximately $700. To VIPs

In honor of Key Club week, Lebanon High School decided to take their service to the next level this November by hosting a Dinner in the Dark. The dinner was held as a fundraiser for the program, VIPS (Visually Impaired Preschool Services). VIPS is a nonprofit, “educational service to young children with visual impairments.”
Safe Trick-or-Treat

This Halloween, the East Noble Key Club in Kendallville, Indiana hosted a “Safe Trick-or-Treat” night. During this night kids could come in and participate in different booths and win different kinds of candy. Each child that came was given enough tickets to do each booth once, and then extra tickets were sold for 25 cents. Each booth was created and run by different extracurricular activities within the school. For example, the EN Christian Fellowship group ran a spider crawl booth, a fortune teller booth, and a pin the nose on the pumpkin booth. Our art club did face painting and the Bi-Phy-Chem club had children making goop. Many other groups had booths that were very popular with the children. The Key Club also had a bake sale and sold popcorn and SADD club sold hot dogs and juice. All profit from Safe Trick-or-Treat was given to project Eliminate. We ended up having a profit of $175 able to donate to Eliminate. This was our second annual Safe Trick-or-Treat night, and was very successful.

62nd Annual Indiana DCON The 2014 Indiana District Convention will be held April 4 through the 6 in Indianapolis this year the Sheraton Hotel. This year the theme is Dr. Seuss - “Oh the places you’ll go with service.” This is a fantastic opportunity to meet Key Clubbers who live in Indiana. There are many parts to District Convention such as the election of the Executive Board, awarding of outstanding clubs and members, a dance, and workshops about how to run a club and service projects! There will be many different, fun and exciting workshops that you will be able to attend while at DCON. You can attend a workshop over Club Officer training, the Eliminate Project, Key Leader and many more! Kevin Wanzer will be this years Keynote speaker, he will be giving his “A.L.O.H.A” message. Elections are also a very big part of District Convention, while at convention you will be electing a new Executive Board for 2014-2015. If

interested
in running for an Executive position then you need to fill out the candidates packet and statement of candidacy and have them sent in by February 15 15. These can be found on the website under the convention tab. Registration forms have just been sent out to clubs. So that means recruit, recruit recruit! Our goal this year is to have 400 members in total and we can’t do that without your help. Get as many members from your own club and division as you possibly and we’ll make this the best DCON yet!
