The African American Male Wellness Agency returned to Kentucky for its eighth Walk of the Year. The 2023 Louisville Walk to Save Black Men’s Lives happened on Saturday, August 26th, at Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. The city’s second Walk featured more than 1,500 participants and 80 vendors. There were more than 230 individuals who received free health screenings at the Walk. “As we address the social determinants of health and health disparities, it is very important we sponsor events like this that give men the opportunity to see other men.
getting screened and getting their health checked,” said Nicole Yates, asst. vice president of Community Engagement at Molina Healthcare. The event was life-changing for many men. There were 110 men, more than of those screened, who learned they had high blood pressure. “With black men coming out and getting screened, we can expect them to take corrective measures and be around for a lot longer,” said Myra Rock, former Director of the Institute for Health Equity.
