Last year AAGO partnered up with Valencia College
Peace and Justice Institute to facilitate a DEI Leadership Academy, a series of workshops designed to create a safe space for engaging in difficult conversations and to cultivate a healthy and accountable workplace culture where inclusive excellence is centered Thirty-seven of our members participated and completed the 4-part leadership academy with the intention of fostering a community where all voices are heard and valued and each person has an equitable opportunity to grow and thrive.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are related concepts, but they have distinct meanings:
Diversity refers to the variety of characteristics that make individuals unique such as race ethnicity gender sexual orientation age socioeconomic status and abilities It is about creating a mix of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences in each group or organization
Equity refers to fairness and justice in the distribution of resources and opportunities It is about ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background has equal access to the same opportunities and resources and that any barriers to that access are identified and removed
Inclusion refers to creating a culture where people from all diverse backgrounds feel valued, respected, and supported It is about creating a sense of belonging and a positive work environment where diversity is celebrated and leveraged to drive innovation and success It is also about actively engaging and empowering individuals and groups who have been historically marginalized or underrepresented.

Shana:
Maurice: I’m proud to see individuals that I’ve worked with or trained, in new or higher positions. I'm proud of myself for staying in this industry for 17 years and having the ability to push myself further.
Lakecia: What I'm most proud of in my career so far is the impact I have on the people I've worked with and the residents that I've worked with.
Brandon:
My resilience and relentless attitude to break barriers, I am the 1st black male in 50 years on the Board of Directors for AAGO, 1st black male to break the cycle at FAA as well! I am very proud of that.
I believe my most proud accomplishment is my perseverance. Having to navigate the policy arena fresh out of college during the pandemic was extremely challenging so I am really proud that I stuck with my goals and vision.
Jolie: I’m most proud of the wisdom from the industry I am able to share. Also proud of those I am able to support to be successful to reach their goals not only professionally but also personally.
Bernard: The best part of my career is that I get to network, and meet great people from all other industries/backgrounds, the fancy events, the meetings, and the flexibility in my schedule.
Marchellee: I must say it has to do with the lives that have impacted the vehicle, which is Essential Staffing Solutions. We have been able to help people with their careers, feed their families, and put roofs over their heads. We helped people sustain their households and take care of their children. That is what I am most proud of.
