FROM THE PRESID E NT
Welcome back! This is the first Toledo American Advertising Award presentation since 2019 and you are all winners! On behalf of AAF Toledo, congratulations to each one of the 2023 winners and entrants! We are honored to recognize and showcase northwest Ohio’s creative talent in a variety of advertising, marketing, and public relations categories.
In mid-January, we received 155 professional and 35 student entries from agencies, businesses, and individuals throughout the Toledo area. A significant increase over last year. In fact, AAF Toledo had the largest increase percentage-wise of entries for all of District 5. So, give yourself a pat on the back!
Due to our virtual competition, we were able to invite judges from outside of our surrounding area to evaluate each entry. Thank you to G. Williams, owner of Grova Creative located in Tallahassee, Florida; Corey Favor, Sr. Director of Community Engagement, Talent and Culture at Orange Barrel Media, located in Columbus, Ohio; and Darren Steuber, Senior Art Director at the Munroe Agency In New York City.. We greatly appreciate the time they took evaluating each entry.
ACongratulations to Rhonda Sewell, Director of Belonging and Community Engagement at the Toledo Museum of Art, for taking home the most prestigious award of the evening, the 2023 Silver Medal Award. This award recognizes Rhonda’s outstanding contributions to the community while further advancing the industry’s standards, creative excellence, and responsibility in areas of social concern. Rhonda will join a remarkable group of Silver Medal Award winners (some who are here tonight!) that represent the Toledo creative and advertising community.
Scott Grosteffon AAF TOLEDO PRESIDENTABOUT THE AWARDS
The American Advertising Awards (The ADDYs), is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local AAF Club competitions The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising
SILVER MEDAL AWARD
The American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.
Annually, AAF member clubs bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community.
Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local club phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards - recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in the AAF Toledo competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY.
Entering the American Advertising Awards supports the entire advertising industry because the AAF and its local and district affiliates use the proceeds to enhance advertising through programs such as public service, internships, advocacy groups, advertising education, and consumer awareness.
The most creative entry in each category is determined by a scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. A GOLD ADDY is recognition of the highest level of creative excellence.
For many local clubs, awarding the AAF Silver Medal Award is the highlight of their year. It enhances the image of advertising by recognizing a locally wellknown person for their advertising and community involvement. Candidates are nominated by AAF Toledo members and the recipient is selected by a panel of judges (three previous winners).

Rhonda also served on the boards of the YWCA of Northwest Ohio, the American Heart Association, Toledo Ballet, the Art Tatum African American Resource Center, and The Media Foundation Board of the Independent Collegian Newspaper at the University of Toledo, among others.

My picks for this year's Judges Choice Awards are Let's Build That Together, campaign by ProFed Credit Union. I really love the diversity showcase within this ad.

The animations were smooth and they complimented the visual storytelling very well.
I want to thank all the applicants for their submissions. It was a pleasure to serve as a judge this year. Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity and keep up the great work.
Corey Favor SR DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TALENT AND CULTURE, OBMThe outside the everyday campaign for Moisture Shield is smart, displaying the product's durability within unique environments and weather scenarios. This campaign utilizes eye-catching visuals combined with graphic assets that are bold, engaging, and fresh, and best of all, the look and feel have been applied to various mediums, from digital to signage and print with a well done professional execution.

I absolutely adored that campaign. I loved how it was cohesive in all platforms that it was used in. It immediately felt like summer to me.

The campaign really kept my attention, and I really thought that the actor and the production and the set value was really on point. I love the attention to detail. We always say pay attention to detail, and I really felt like they immersed themselves into these drinks and made sure the drinks look picture perfect every time.

And I loved the social media, and how they carried through everything. It was super well thought out, put together, and every time I would see the social media ad, I just wanted to immediately grab a drink. I wanted a drink that looked like five stars just from their ads. So, congratulations to the creators of the campaign.
It's a rockstar campaign. Stellar loved it!

Ryan Wright

CINEMATOGRAPHER
Ryan Wright is a cinematographer working in the commercial production industry in Detroit, Michigan. As a child, Ryan always knew he was creative at heart. His passion for art began as a boy through drawing his favorite cartoons, video games, and comic book characters — even winning a few drawing contests along the way. After taking several broadcasting, film, and television classes throughout middle school and high school, his passion for drawing grew into a love for filmmaking.
While attending Central Michigan University, Ryan continued to develop his craft as an image maker by working in several different capacities within the video production industry including: corporate videography, wedding videography, live broadcast production for PBS, as well as taking a few internships including one for Toledo’s own, Madhouse.
After graduating from CMU, Ryan has gone on to work as a cinematographer for brands such as Rocket Mortgage, State Farm, Meijer, Forbes, and The Cleveland Cavaliers. His projects have taken him all across the U.S. from Detroit and Toledo to Miami and Santa Fe, with projects ranging in scale from smaller social media campaigns to larger scale national broadcast commercial productions. Though utilizing cameras, lenses and lighting to create images and tell stories is Ryan’s true passion, getting to work with the incredible professionals, artists, craftspeople, and just all around kind-hearted people that make up the cast and crew on a film set is what makes his work so enjoyable.
