Message from Associate Alumnae of Douglass College President Lisa Dorio Ruch ‘89, Esq.
I am excited to lead the AADC at a time of change and progress as we build our bright future. It is truly an honor to serve as President after many leadership and volunteer roles over the last three decades. I could not be prouder to count my daughter Julia Ruch ’22 and my sister Tina Dorio Perri ’90, as part of our AADC community. Together, they are just one example of how the AADC community spans generations to provide opportunities for meaningful connections. Inclusive networking is an essential part of the AADC. We strive to create an environment where every member of our diverse community, every person who comes out to AADC events or programs or joins us for virtual programs, feels valued and empowered.

Highlights from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024
Our diverse AADC community of alumnae and friends, near and far, experienced the impact a wide array of AADC virtual and in-person programs and events.
The Eighth Annual Victoria Dabrowski Schmidt '42 Workplace and Professional Symposium returned to campus with its theme, "Your Life's Passion is Your Legacy." Margaret (Marty) Gillis ’75, delivered the keynote, with inspiring workshops throughout the day, and the luncheon featured the 2022 & 2023 AADC Society of Excellence Induction Ceremony
The 2023 L'Hommedieu Lecture, "Truth & Reconciliation: Healing Wounds,” featured Race & Gender Justice Activist Rev. Naomi Tutu, who focused on today’s issues and how to speak our truths without judgment. The lecture is made possible through the generosity of the late Frances Bradley L’Hommedieu ’26.
AADC Black Alumnae Network hosted a Virtual Event in Honor of Black History Month, “Not This Time: The War for African American History,” presented by Deborah Gray White, Ph.D., Board of Governors Distinguished Professor of History at Rutgers, that addressed the historical roots of the present fight for African American history. BAN also joined Rutgers African-American Alumni Alliance (RAAA), Inc. at Rutgers Homecoming & Family Weekend and encouraged alumnae to participate in the 2024 Black Alumni Collective National Conference at Rutgers University.
AADC Alumnae Reunion Weekend 2024 was held on campus starting with the Vanguard Luncheon. On Saturday, we returned to Voorhees Chapel for Convocation and the Classes Processional, followed by the Sip & Celebrate Champagne Brunch. Activities included a Rum Cocktail and Mocktail
Class, George Street Playhouse Brings the Arts to Reunion, Online Selling, and the popular Taste of the Mediterranean Cooking. The 2024 Alumnae Awards Ceremony was also featured, followed by our All Alumnae Cocktail Reception in the NJC Lounge.
We explored workplace dynamics at the virtual Smart Talk, Empowering vs. Overpowering in the Workplace, featuring Executive Coach and DEI Specialist Tynisha Coleman ’08, ACC.
Our Virtual 2024 Zagoren Lecture Honoring Women’s History Month, “Rising Above the Noise: Disrupting Communication in a Distracted, Divided World,” featured Whitney Pennington Rodgers '07, a Current Affairs Curator at TED and award-winning journalist. The lecture honors former AADC Executive Director, the late Adelaide Marcus Zagoren '40.
Our fall and spring AADC Alumnae Council meetings were hosted virtually. We feted donors at our Celebratory Luncheon to Honor AADC Benefactors at the Douglass Student Center, where we heard stories of generosity from our community. We welcomed the Class of 2024 at a special AADC "Proud Douglass Alumna" Free T-Shirt Giveaway as they gathered for the Douglass Residential College Convocation.
Our regional and affinity networks connected, including at the popular Cabin Fever event with crafts, sweets and more, hosted by the AADC Bunting Connections Affinity Group & Young Alumnae Network, at the AADC. Our Washington, D.C. Area and New York City Regional Connection Groups gathered for luncheons, museum tours and theater events. And many enjoyed the virtual Sisterhood Book Club and the Evelyn Sermons Field '49 Literary Society.

The payroll taxes and benefits associated with these salaries are allocated, as well. Similarly, a portion of the cost of certain resources required to perform these functions is allocated across the functions. These resources include expenses such as building use fee, office expenses, IT support services and insurance. * AADC offered $906,771.57 from funds of the AADC and the Douglass Fund to be awarded in 2023-2024. DRC is responsible for identifying and selecting the students to whom scholarships are awarded. DRC notified AADC of recipients of awards for 2023-2024 totaling $490,067.79. AADC transfers the funds once recipients are identified who meet the criteria of the individual scholarship funds.
Note: The Douglass Fund Trust was created in 1969 by the AADC for the benefit of Douglass and her students. Non-endowed funds are included in Student Financial Support, Fellowships for alumnae, and Institute for Women’s Leadership through the AADC. Endowed funds arise from contributions by a donor who intends to make a lasting gift. The donated contributions are invested to provide an on-going source of funding. Endowed funds are distributed in a manner that is designed to preserve the value of the endowment and generate a predictable stream of available income. The specific use of endowment distributions may be restricted by the donor, or unrestricted.
The donated contributions in a non-endowed fund are utilized in their entirety. When the contributed gift has been expended according to the donor’s wishes, the fund ceases to exist. The specific use of a non-endowed gift may be restricted by the donor, or unrestricted. Student Financial Support:
