“Escribir ha sido un salvavidas”, fueron las palabras del escritor Rafael Cuevas Molina al recibir el Premio Nacional de Literatura Miguel Ángel Asturias, en el Palacio Nacional de la Cultura.

“Una vida signada por la violencia y el éxodo forzado por diferentes países es rica para la literatura, y no debía desperdiciarse la oportunidad. Y eso es simplemente lo que he hecho”, añadió el también poeta, filósofo, historiador y pintor durante su discurso. Cuevas Molina ha escrito más de una veintena de obras literarias, en las cuales destaca la novela Como el aire, ganadora del Premio UNA-Palabra 2019, de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica; también sobresale Al otro lado de la lluvia, Pequeño libro de viajes, o bien Los rastros de mi deseo.

Cada uno de sus libros destaca por su preocupación por el lenguaje y la prosa poética, ante lo cual el Consejo lo definió como ganador, pues “refleja la riqueza literaria que heredamos”, aseguró el viceministro Calderón.

Tikal es uno de los mayores yacimientos arqueológicos y centros urbanos de la civilización maya, ubicado en Flores, Petén.

Esta ciudad maya fue ocupada del año 750 a.C. hasta aproximadamente el 900 d.C., donde se puede apreciar el arte, la arquitectura y el misticismo. Tikal is one of the most significant archaeological sites and urban centers of the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization, located in Flores, Petén.

Here, you can appreciate Mayan art, architecture, and mysticism. This Mayan city was occupied from 750 B.C. to approximately 900 A.D. It was discovered in 1848 during an expedition led by Colonel Modesto Mendez, accompanied by the governor Ambrosio Tut and the artist Eusebio Lara. We owe the first illustrations of the monuments and ruins of Tikal to this artist.

This discovery attracted several spectators and eventually became one of the most outstanding cities of the Mayans. UNESCO declared it World Heritage Site in 1979.

Tikal National Park has about 3000 built structures in its 358 miles², the fourth largest continuous forest extension on the planet. These structures were built at the beginning of the Middle Preclassical period.

Acropolis: In this place, the political and administrative power was settled, and it was a place reserved for the burials of the rulers.

Tikal has four acropolises: The North Acropolis, the Central Acropolis, the South Acropolis, and the East Acropolis.

Templos

Templo I: conocido como el Gran Jaguar, es el más representativo de todos. Templo II: llamado Las Máscaras, mide entre 37 y 40 metros de altura. Templo III: nombrado el Gran Sacerdote, fue un santuario ceremonial y funerario. Templo IV: llamado la Serpiente Bicéfala, es el más alto de América, mide cerca de 66 metros: Templo VI: en este lugar se descubrieron varias inscripciones que describen la ciudad.

Temples

Temple I: known as the Great Jaguar Temple I, is the most representative of the country. Temple II: called Las Máscaras, measures between 37 and 40 meters. Temple III: Temple of the Jaguar Priest; this was a ceremonial and funerary sanctuary. Temple IV: The Two-headed Serpent is the tallest in America, measuring around 66 meters: Temple VI: here, several discovered inscriptions discoveries speak of the city.

En el parque también podrá contemplar varias estelas que contienen varios datos de los gobernantes de Tikal. Asimismo se considera que la más antigua es la Estela 29, debido a que la iconografía evoca al arte olmeca.

Se han descubierto cinco áreas de juego de pelota.

Hay dos museos en Tikal: Museo de las Estelas y Museo Sylvannus G. Morley.

Alejandro Zetina left Guatemala at the age of three but has Guatemala in his heart. “I have always been proud to be Guatemalan; I never forget it.”

Success

The outstanding teenager demonstrates his achievements, efforts, and dedication during his school years. In November 2021, he won the Speech Contest in Panama, the first foreigner to receive such an award. He says that debates, speech, and acting are his passions.

The student expresses his desire to study Political Science. “I see myself as the voice of the youth.”

Ballenas jorobadas, delfines saltando e, incluso, si tiene suerte, podrá apreciar un tiburón ballena durante su visita a Guatemala.

Estas especies llegan entre noviembre y abril a las aguas cálidas del Pacífico guatemalteco, para aparearse y reproducirse. Sin embargo, se han convertido en un espectáculo que disfrutan tanto turistas como locales. Los expertos recomiendan no acercarse tanto a los delfines, pues estos son muy amigables. When you visit Guatemala, you may see humpback whales, dolphins jumping back and forth; if lucky, you can even get to see a whale shark.

These species arrive between November and April in the Guatemalan Pacific’s warm waters to mate and breed. However, it has become a sight that both tourists and locals enjoy. Experts recommend not getting too close to the dolphins since they are very friendly.

Guatemala emitió un reglamento para la observación de cetáceos, en junio de 2015, con el fin de conservar la fauna marina. Este establece que las embarcaciones no pueden acercarse a más de 100 metros y deberán tener el motor apagado. Simplemente, ¡déjese maravillar!
