Taking Pride in Safety We are so proud of our safety record and drivers, we just have to brag. Every year at Western, we recognize our drivers who work an entire year without an accident with our Safe Driver Award. For the purpose of this award, Western defines an accident as any safety mishap, no matter how minor, that occurs while operating one of our vehicles. The drivers who earned this award for 2011 successfully maneuvered a large trash truck through Boulder-area traffic over 15,000 miles during the year, received no traffic citations and did not cause damage to property, Western vehicles, or other vehicles. In 2011, 40 of our 57 eligible drivers, or 70%, earned this award. Two-thirds of those have received the award for at least three years, three drivers have received the award for 10 or more consecutive years, and one individual has earned this recognition 17 years in a row! Each driver receives a cash award commensurate with the difficulty of the accomplishment. In addition to cash awards, safe drivers and their guests attend a celebration dinner in their honor. We want to congratulate all of them and look forward to an even safer 2012 and more drivers at the dinner next year.
Western Helps the City of Boulder Continue to Take the Next Steps Toward Zero Waste The numbers are in for our Boulder customers’ collective efforts during 2011 regarding recycling and composting rates, and together our customers increased their diversion by 10% from 2010. This increase comes from the additional materials you have been placing in your carts, dumpsters and other drop-off and special event efforts that are bound for the recycling market or Western’s compost facility. We’ll be making detailed reports to the various city managers and city councils this spring, watch for more details. Genet D’Arcy. And thank you for your efforts to reduce waste! We appreciate your choice of Western as your service provider in this important and ongoing community effort.
