There are currently thousands of asylum seekers as well as some recognized refugees being held in the immigration detention around Australia. Immigration detention in Australia in indefinite- there is no limit in law or policy to the length of time which a person may be detained. Bases on Human Rights Watch World Report 2021, of those refugees remaining offshore, all are adults, and most have been there since 2013. At least 12 refugees and asylum seekers have died in Australia's offshore processing system since 2013, six of them suicides. Austalian government introduced a bill that would enable detention center staff to confiscate mobile phones in immigration detention. It would also grant detention facility officers new search and sieze powers without the need of warrant.

Wrongdoing can be so ingrained that some might even say that such practices are “standard operating procedures.” The world is full of people who astutely plan to do what is morally wrong. This is true not just in our economic life and the world of business. This is also true in the world of politics and governance, so much so that in the second reading, Paul appeals to Timothy and his community, “I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, be made for everyone, for rulers of states, and all in authority, that we may enjoy a quiet and peaceful life (1Tim.8:4). We know how difficult it is for citizens to live in an environment of fear and insecurity. When those in authority do not act as good stewards, the constituents suffer. It is not only Money that becomes a God for some, but also Power. With money one becomes powerful and with power, one becomes rich. When these become the principal pursuits of life at the cost of justice, fairness, and the common good, then God and His laws are set aside. This is idolatry. May there be more people of good will who will become faithful stewards of this earth and make a true accounting to the Owner.

“And I give thanks to you for all that you do in your parish communities to enrich our church of San Diego,” he added.
His visit to the Central Asian country will also include private meetings with religious leaders and participation in the closing session of the interreligious congress.
We should “bring people together while respecting their diversity,” he said, and promote “their loftiest aspirations without compromising their vitality.”
Canonized by Pope John Paul II in Rome on Oct. 18, 1987, San Lorenzo Ruiz was martyred during the persecution of Christians in Japan during the 17th century while on a missionary expedition.
According to the diocese’s newspaper, The Southern Cross, it was McElroy’s first local Mass for the general Catholic community since he was elevated to the College of Cardinals on Aug. 27.

Francis’ speech at the opening and plenary session of the religious leaders summit Sept. 14 was organized around four global challenges: the COVID-19 pandemic, peace, fraternal acceptance, and care for our common home.

caretakers of whatever we have accumulated as riches in life. When accumulating wealth becomes the sole object of life, then we have made a God of money, This is idolatry. The first reading gives us examples of people who make money as their principal goal, at the expense of justice. The prophet Amos was describing a situation during his time when the poor were taken advantage of for the sake of profit (Amos 8:4-7). The merchants could not wait for the Sabbath to end so that they could go back to their unfair business practices. The worship of God took second place to unjust dealings, “Let us lower the measure and raise the price, let us cheat and tamper with the scales, and even sell the refuse with the whole grain.”
He said the best way to enhance the distinctive features of religious, ethnic, and cultural differences is “to work for a society marked by respectful coexistence.”

The cardinal also took the occasion to acknowledge the Filipino community, which, according to him, is the diocese’s “source of strength and vitality”.
Jesus was telling the story of the astute steward who was caught by the master in some kind of dishonest activity (Luke 16:1-13). In those days a landowner or a businessman may appoint a steward who then has great authority and leeway in managing his master’s affairs. This steward must have gone beyond his authority and the master wanted to fire him from his job. Before he could be fired he made friends with his master’s debtors by reducing their debts. By doing so he was also reducing the commissions that he would earn in the transactions. He was astute enough to befriend some people who may offer him a job. Jesus said that some people are very clever in dealing with worldly matters. If only we use our God-given intellect and imagination to serve the kingdom. Jesus then went on to speak about proper stewardship, “Whoever can be trusted in little things can also be trusted in big ones.”

Jesus then gave a warning about our stewardship over wealth, “No servant can serve two masters ….You cannot give yourself both to God and to Money.” Jesus was actually saying that Money should not take the place of God in a follower’s life. Being stewards of God’s creation and all that is in it, we are merely temporary
“We are called to place our lives in the person of Jesus Christ and understand that it is in the cross of Christ crucified and Christ risen that we see a pathway to our own salvation,” McElroy said.
“If the Creator, to whom we have devoted our lives, is the author of human life, how can we, who call ourselves believers, consent to the destruction of that life? And how can we imagine that the men and women of our time, many of whom live as if God did not exist, can be inspired to engage in respectful and responsible dialogue if the great religions, which are the soul of so many cultures and traditions, are not themselves actively committed to peace?” he said.

A shrewd person is astute in practical matters. He finds ways to solve problems. As we say in Filipino “marunong lumusot.” A clever person may just be bright and knows the rules of the game but a shrewd person knows the ways to go around the rules. This is what Jesus referred to when he said, “the people of this world are more astute in dealing with their own kind, than are people of the light.”

IM4PEACE noted that while huge tarpaulins campaigning for yes votes have sprouted in many places in the province, no information drives and education pertaining to RA 11550 and the conduct of the plebiscite were held in the communities. The question stands, more than whether the people of Maguindanao will vote for the division of the province into two, overwhelmingly as predicted by proponents and supporters of the move, or reject it in favor of the status quo, an undivided Maguindanao; the question of whether or not they truly understand the implications of this plebiscite in their lives as constituents of a province where the control and influence of powerful political clans stay strong and could be further strengthened.

What is evident is that traffic in the city is so unbearable due to the increase in motor vehicles. This is the place where you can see Sports Utility Vehicle of all types and sizes and the smaller motorcycles which literally clog the roads. “Old Timers” in Cotabato City would long for that time when you get to walk from your residences to go marketing in an easy pace or do your walking exercise anytime of the day. Now, even scheduling your walk at 6:00 in the morning will keep you on your toes because of vehicles which rush at high speed on the city’s small subdivision roads. An added problem is that with all the vehicles, the city is short of parking space. Even with the regulation of no parking on the right side of city streets, this looks so difficult to enforce. I wonder who is making a killing by selling all those vehicles at very low prices. They should be asked to provide the parking space for the vehicles they sell.
Cuevas, who introduced himself to the sultan as “Capitan Fernandez” and a regent (Reina Regente) of the Queen of Spain, had labelled in his colonial map the enchanted Kabalukan Hills and its surrounding territories as “Reina Regente.” In the first Public Land Act passed by the Philippine Commission in 1900, a “district” of Reina Regente was designated as point of reference in early land surveys in the Moro Province. This was promptly corrected by the U.S.-backed civil government, after Philippine Commission Head, Governor-General Leonard Howard Taft paid courtesy visits to the local datus, notably Datu Anwaruddin Utto and Datu Piang in Cotabato in 1901.

Have you noticed recently the tremendous increase in the population of Cotabato City? Some people attribute this to the BARMM offices which are located in the city. Those who man these offices brought their families from the other areas covered by BARMM and have decided to transfer residence to the city. But a look at the other urban areas in the country also showed increases in their population. Despite the complaints of Filipinos that life is so hard at present, not even a Covid Pandemic has caused a standstill in the commercial and service development of city enterprises. A cursory study of this phenomenon shows that:
The Sangkis are related to both the Ampatuans and the Mangudadatus of Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat. But Ali is perceived closer to the Lutayan-based Mangudadatus, being the father of Governor Bai Mariam, who is married to an erstwhile Sultan Kudarat Governor, Suharto “Teng” Mangudadatu.
Political observers have noted a thinning blood relation between the Mangudadatu political clans in Buluan Maguindanao and Lutayan Sultan Kudarat Province. The two towns are separated by the Buluan Lake which naturally drains upland water downhill the historic Pulangi River in Mindanao.
In 2020, 58.93 million or 54.0 percent of the total 109.03 million population of the Philippines lived in urban barangays. This represents an increase of 7.20 million persons from the 51.73 million urban residents in 2015. The rural population or those who lived in barangays classified as rural in 2020 comprised the remaining 50.10 million persons or 46.0 percent of the total However, population.itwouldbe too early to conclude that the rural areas are becoming empty due to the movement from rural to urban. In Cotabato City, while the working population have moved their residences here, there is also a movement of city dwellers who seek peace and tranquility to the nearby rural areas like North Cotabato and Maguindanao. If one travel the highways of the region, a number of buildings are being constructed. The downside is that land valuation has gone up to such an extent, that the farms which produce the food for the city dwellers have skyrocketed. This doesn’t look good for future food security.

Here’s how these organs work together in your digestive system.
The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract. In fact, digestion starts before you even take a bite. Your salivary glands get active as you see and smell that pasta dish or warm bread. After you start eating, you chew your food into pieces that are more easily digested. Your saliva mixes with the food to begin to break it down into a form your body can absorb and use. When you swallow, your tongue passes the food into your throat and into your esophagus. EsophagusLocated in your throat near your trachea (windpipe), the esophagus receives food from your mouth when you swallow. The epiglottis is a small flap that folds over your windpipe as you swallow to prevent you from choking (when food goes into your windpipe). A series of muscular contractions within the esophagus called peristalsis delivers food to your stomach.
liver has many functions, but its main job within the digestive system is to process the nutriewnts absorbed from the small intestine. Bile from the liver secreted into the small intestine also plays an important role in digesting fat and some vitamins.Theliver is your body’s chemical “factory.” It takes the raw materials absorbed by the intestine and makes all the various chemicals your body needs to function. The liver also detoxifies potentially harmful chemicals. It breaks down and secretes many drugs that can be toxic to your body.
How does a public servant get to financial security?Thefirst step to the road to financial security is to achieve financial literacy. Investopedia defines it as “the ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. The meaning of financial literacy is the foundation of your relationship with money, and it is a lifelong journey of learning. The earlier you start, the better off you will be because education is the key to success when it comes to money.”Aperson that is financially literate understands why he or she should live within his/her means, avoid taking on unnecessary loans, saves as much as possible, and starts investing early on.
