3– Bolton Central Overview 4–5 Bolton Central Update 6– Bolton East Overview 7–9 Bolton East Update 10 – Upcoming Events 11 - Upcoming events/Police surgeries

Since 1st December we run Operation Sherry. This is the town centre operation against retail crime and theft from person. We have seen reductions in crime with reductions in shoplifting over the same period last year. It has also given reassurance to visitors to the town centre over the festive. There have been a series of theft from motor vehicle in the Rumworth area, along with theft of number plates and catalytic converters. Catalytic convertors thefts are also on the increase especially on Mercedes Sprinter vans. These are removed usually overnight, we have also had thieves cutting exhaust systems from 4 X 4’s. If you have one parked near your address please be vigilant and report any suspicious on 101. Many thanks to you all, and can I please take the opportunity to wish you all well for the coming New Year. Insp Paul Devall.

We have had some great results recently with significant arrests of known burglars which has seen a dramatic decrease in burglaries. This period still remains a risk though due to people stocking up their homes with new, boxed up property, sometimes conveniently grouped together under a well lit tree! A reminder here about lighting plans - also curtains to be closed during the dark nights and where possible keep your presents locked away. We have had a slight increase in theft from motor vehicles over the past few weeks including two sets of ladders taken from the roof of two separate vehicles. Please spread the word about securing vehicles and anything on your vehicles. Also keep any valuable items out of sight. I make no excuse for repeating my previous advice about our 'Ice Bandits' We have had a number of these type of thefts when we had our recent frost. This could happen to you or a member of your community - We call them 'Ice bandits' - offenders will target vehicles left outside houses with the engine running while the owner returns to the house for some hot water, or a last slurp of tea! There is always an increase when the temperature goes below 0' so please spread the word 'don't be the next victim!’ Shoplifting has decreased since my last report due to increased efforts with our prevalent shops. But we would still be very much interested in any reports of people conducting door knocking or attending pubs trying to sell any goods. Moving swiftly into the new year, or at least preparing for it - A seasonal trend in January is robbery and theft from the person. This is typically due to offenders snatching new gadgets, received as presents from young people. The message for young people is, enjoy your new property but don't flaunt it in public. Thanks you for all your work this year. I hope you all enjoy the festive period and I wish you all the best of luck for the new year. Best wishes Wayne Readfern, Inspector, East Area Neighbourhood Policing Team
