IMPACT REPORT 2024

This report showcases the progress and impact of Kingspan’s sponsorship of two 4ocean booms, critical tools in intercepting and removing ocean-bound plastic waste Through this collaboration, Kingspan and 4ocean are contributing to a cleaner ocean, empowering local communities, and driving measurable change Below is a detailed summary of this year's achievements

KINGSPAN-SPONSORED BALI RIVER BOOM 6

Location: Lelateng, Negara, Jembrana

Coordinates: -8370589, 114609404

Purpose: Strategically placed to intercept marine debris from the Sungai Sawah Gede Lelateng River

BOOM SYSTEMS: A boom system is highly effective at capturing plastic waste because plastic is buoyant and tends to float on the surface of rivers As water currents carry floating plastic downstream, the boom acts as a barrier, intercepting and containing the debris before it can flow further Since the boom sits at the water's surface, it targets the layer where most plastic pollution is concentrated, making it an efficient solution for collecting and removing plastic waste from waterways

EMPOWERING LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Kingspan’s sponsorship directly benefits local communities by providing sustainable livelihoods

COLLECTORS EMPLOYED

Sorting Facility Workers

The Kingspan-sponsored booms not only help remove ocean plastic but also provide meaningful employment to individuals in Jembrana, Bali. These team members, who once worked in various trades, are now integral to 4ocean’s mission of ending ocean plastic pollution Here are a few of their inspiring stories:

A TEAM TRANSFORMING LOCAL IMPACT INTO GLOBAL CHANGE

These stories showcase how partnerships like Kingspan’s can drive both environmental and socioeconomic impact, turning local tradesmen into global changemakers

CHALLENGES IN RIVERBOOM OPERATIONS

One key challenge with 4ocean’s riverboom operations is addressing long-standing habits in local communities where waste, including trash and deceased animals, is often discarded into rivers These practices stem from a lack of environmental awareness and limited access toproperwastedisposalsystems

4OCEAN'S BALI SORTING FACILITY

This facility plays a crucial role in the organization's mission to combat ocean plastic pollution Located in Jembrana, Bali, this facility is the largest of its kind operated by 4ocean. It serves as the central hub where collected plastic waste undergoes a comprehensive recycling process

Key Operations at the Ba y

2. Rinsing and Cleaning

Sorted plastics are thoroughly rinsed to remove contaminants and debris, ensuring that only clean materials proceed to the next stage

3. Shredding and Drying
