Impact Partnership
A toolkit for making a splash

Welcome to the Movement!
Over 10 million tons of plastic enter the ocean each year. It’s one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. But together, we have the power to change that story.
By becoming a 4ocean Impact Partner, your business is joining a global community committed to protecting and restoring our one shared ocean. Every partnership supports local crews, empowers coastal communities, funds large-scale cleanups, and drives measurable environmental impact that restores ecosystems and protects endangered animals.
This isn’t just a campaign. It’s a movement to transform the way business interacts with the ocean, from extraction and pollution toward protection and regeneration.
As a partner, you’re not only helping us remove plastic and trash from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines, you’re showing your customers, employees, and stakeholders that your brand stands for something bigger: a future where the ocean thrives.

Explaining 4ocean 1

What is 4ocean?

4ocean was founded by two surfers who witnessed firsthand the overwhelming amount of plastic pollution littering coastlines during a trip to Bali, Indonesia. What began as a personal mission to clean up the beaches they loved quickly grew into the realization that the issue was global in scope and demanded a scalable solution. From that moment, 4ocean was built on the idea that business could be a force for good, a vehicle not just for awareness, but for measurable, lasting change.
Since our founding in 2017, we’ve grown into an international ocean cleanup Public Benefit Corporation, funding cleanup operations in multiple countries. We empower daily cleanups on rivers, coastlines, and in open water to remove plastic pollution before it can impact marine ecosystems. The company’s innovative model - funding cleanups through product sales and partnerships - has allowed us to remove tens of millions of pounds of trash from the ocean, all while empowering local captains and crews in the impacted communities who engage fulltime in the cleanup mission.
Explaining 4ocean
How partnerships work
Every 4ocean partnership is designed to create measurable, verifiable impact. Whether it’s tying product sales to pounds removed, offsetting the plastic in your packaging, or directly funding cleanups, your commitment translates into trash pulled from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines - with transparent reporting you can share confidently.
Why it matters
Plastic pollution is one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. By partnering with 4ocean, your brand is helping fund cleanups, empower local crews, and inspire customers to take action.
Impact is good for business
Research shows that customers are more likely to choose - and stay loyal to - brands that back up their sustainability commitments with credible action. Partnering with 4ocean connects your brand to a global movement for ocean health.

Communicating About Your Partnership 4
Communicating About Your Partnership
Communicating About Your Partnership
Here are some simple do’s and don’ts to help you talk about your 4ocean Impact Partnership clearly and consistently.
You might want to say: What you should say instead: Why not...
“Our company single-handedly cleans the ocean.”
“We sponsor/ donate to 4ocean”
“As a 4ocean Impact Partner, we’re supporting global cleanups that have removed [X pounds] of trash from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines.”
“We’re proud to be a 4ocean Partner, supporting verified cleanup operations that create real impact.”
“We’ve eliminated all ocean plastic.”
Note: Your partnership type determines how you communicate about your impact.
Plastic Neutral Partners pull plastic from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines.
Pull-A-Pound & Certified Cleanup Partners pull plastic and waste/debris from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines.
“We are certified ocean safe.”
“Our partnership helps remove plastic and trash directly from the ocean and coastlines, while driving awareness and action.”
“We’re a 4ocean Certified Cleanup Partner / Plastic Neutral Partner.”
No one company solves ocean plastic alone. Partnerships work best when framed as part of a collective global effort.
“Sponsor” or “Donates” suggests a transactional relationship. Partnership emphasizes shared values and measurable impact. Overclaims can damage credibility. Stay focused on measurable actions and real impact.
“We help clean the ocean.”
“Our partnership is part of a growing global movement to protect and restore the ocean.”
Avoid using unofficial certifications or terms. Stick to the official program names provided by 4ocean.
Partnership is not an “award” - it’s an active commitment and ongoing journey.
