Although the presidential election is still over a year away, state primaries will start early in the New Year. State primaries allow you to vote for the candidate that you want to represent a political party in the general election.

HOW DO I VOTE?

As a US citizen living abroad you can vote by absentee ballot from your home! Complete the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to register to vote and request your absentee ballot for State and Federal Elections today.

Go to fvap.gov and complete the FPCA using the FPCA’s Online Assistant. For more assistance visit the 48 FW Installation Voter Assistance Office in the A&FRC (Bldg. 950)

FCC NEW PROVIDER PRE-ORIENTATION

Wednesday, October 2 • 11am-12pm The FCC Provider Pre-Orientation is set to target military spouses living in on-base housing in the tri-base area. Attendees will learn about the FCC Program and how to become an FCC certified provider. In addition an overview of certification requirements is conducted as well as a review of all paperwork that must be completed in order to become a certified provider.

The Miniaturist by Jesse Burton The Miniaturist is Jesse Burton’s debut novel. An international bestseller, it was inspired by Petronella Oortman’s cabinet house in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.

After a perfunctory wedding ceremony, 18 year old Petronella Oortman comes to seventeenth century Amsterdam with her parakeet, Peebo, to the house of her new husband, the merchant Johannes Brandt. She has married her old family name to his great wealth. Yet as day succeeds day nothing turns out to be as she expected and as the story unfolds she must grow up quickly to deal with the dangers that beset the household.

Her husband’s present to her is a cabinet house. Much larger than a doll’s house it is a replica of the Brandt household with nine rooms, standing foursquare in the hall when it arrives. Johannes announces that it is for her education. She finds a miniaturist to populate her house with tiny items and dolls. These turn out to be uncannily accurate, mirroring real life. The mystery begins. What or who is the miniaturist? Is she somehow spying on the Brandts? Is she warning them or actually influencing events?

This is a magical historical novel which does not pull its punches. It is gripping and suspenseful as well as harrowing.
