CONDITIONS OF SALE: The sale will be held subject to the rules and regulations of each breed society, the conditions of sale as recommended by the Livestock Auctions Association and the Auctioneers Standard Conditions of sale.

All sheep will be sold under the Auspices of the Texel Sheep Society and the Conditions of sale relevant to individual sales. These can be viewed at texel.uk/societyrules Auctioneers also display copies of the Conditions of sale within the auction house.

AUCTION MART RULES FOR VENDORS : The Shepherd in charge must bring their respective lots forward, take them to and from the Sale Ring, attend until delivered and assist in trucking if required as the Auctioneers will be responsible only for what is delivered to the purchaser. Should the Shepherd not be in attendance at the time his lots fall to be sold, it will be passed over and taken at the end of Sale. All Stock will proceed in the order of the Catalogue and all lots not previously entered will be sold only when the list is finished. All purchases to be settled for and taken delivery of on the Day of Sale. No stock can be removed without a Pass. Purchasers should see that their Stock is correct before leaving the gates, as no deduction can be made afterwards. No Private Sales prior to the Stock being offered by Auction will be allowed or recognised by the Salesman. The usual commission must be paid on consignments sold privately within this Market. Every assistance in loading or keeping overnight, for the accommodation only of Buyers, will be arranged, as far as possible, by the Auctioneers, who will not be responsible for loss or damage incurred thereby.

NOTE TO SELLER: For the avoidance of doubt NWA Ltd reserve the right to contra or keep sale proceeds to offset against an outstanding account.

NWTBC SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF SALE

The auction mart will be open between 3pm - 6pm on Friday 2nd January 2026, should you wish to go and set your pen(s) up and bring your animals in, or set up ready for your animals to enter on the Saturday morning. Any vendors intending to bring their animals on the Friday please let the auction mart know.

All sheep shall be penned by 9.30am Saturday 3rd January 2026. Inspections from 6.30am-9.30am. Judging to commence at 8.30am and sale at 11am

All substitute Lots MUST be submitted on itexel no later than 12 noon on Wednesday 31st December 2025. All Substitute Lots must be marked with a red mark in the middle of the animals back.

All sheep to be Maedi Visna accredited flocks and must be accompanied by the relevant documentation.

All female sheep MUST BE FULLY REGISTERED.

ALL ANIMALS SOLD AT THIS SALE MUST BE CORRECT IN MOUTH AND UDDER. ANY ANIMALS DEEMED INCORRECT BY THE INSPECTORS ON THE DAY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE SOLD AT THIS SALE.

All sheep entries should clearly show whether the animal is single, twin, triplet, quad, etc. or ET and this information to be clearly shown in the sale catalogue.

Adult sheep entered at shows and sales under the auspices of the Texel Sheep Society must be bare clipped after 1st April each year.

Lot numbers will be posted out to vendors and MUST be round the animals neck prior to the animal going through the veterinary inspection.

One leaf of straw will be supplied in each pen, if the vendor requires any more it is their responsibility to take their own.

All sheep will be subject to a club inspection. Any animal or group of animals, which do not reach the club standard, will not be eligible for sale. The decision of the inspectors will be final and any animal or group of animals failed will be removed from the sale and forfeit the entry fee and failure to accept the inspectors decision will result in the entire consignment being rejected. When an animal is referred to a Veterinary Surgeon, his decision will be final.

Once inspected, an animal must remain in the sale yard until offered for sale.

No dressing, artificial whitening, clipping or excessive use of dips on the fleeces of sheep will be permitted. An inspector may be present at the sale with the authority to disqualify any sheep, which in his opinion, are below a minimum standard with regards to breed type or are found to be contravening the Society Bye-laws, right up to the point of sale.

The Society requires that all pedigree Texel sheep carry two different forms of identification, each clearly identifying the Society flock book number for that animal. Pedigree Texel’s can be identified with a tag plus a tattoo or two separate tags. Any animal with indistinct identification or carrying one form of identification will be rejected unless the Society has been notified in advance of the inspection and a dispensation certificate accompanies the animal to the point of inspection.

If any animal offered for sale has had embryos collected from it the number of embryos in storage must be declared at point of sale.

The purchaser shall have no right to claim damages from the vendor in respect of indirect or consequential loss such as (but not limited to) loss of profit or any other loss whatsoever.

The Texel Sheep Society reserves the right to blood sample any sheep and/or take wool samples for forensic testing.

All sheep sold in guineas. All sheep sold at sales organised by the Society recognised Clubs will be subject to the Society levy amounting to 0.5% of the gross sale price; in addition a levy of 0.5% will be collected by the Club and the Auctioneers Commission.

All vendors must sign the declaration, agreeing to abide by the Club conditions of entry and conditions of sale, on the entry form.

There will be a minimum bid price of 180gns for Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings; 150gns for Ewe Lambs, at the discretion of the vendor and auctioneer.

Committee reserve right to limit numbers if oversubscribed.

Scrapie Genotyping is no longer mandatory. If the Scrapie Genotyping is declared in the sale catalogue or at point of sale and subsequently found to be incorrect, for whatever reason, the purchaser shall have the right to return the animal and to claim the full purchase price from the vendor.

SHOW RULES

1. The first class of animals must make their way to the show ring at 8.30am prompt.

2. Each vendor may submit a maximum of two animals per class in the show.

3. Prize vouchers and trophies will only be awarded if the prize winning animal is sold through the sale ring.

4. All trophies and prize money must be signed for at the auction mart office.

5. Rosettes will be awarded for 1st to 6th place.

The Texel Sheep Society provides data collection and performance reporting services to its membership. The National British Texel sheep evaluation combines pedigree and genomic data to provide Indexes that are simple to use and understand.

Higher value = more profit per lamb

texelplus economic indexes support the breed’s development with a focus on commercial traits and profitability. Over the last five years there has been a 15% increase in the rate of genetic gain in the terminal index, providing increased benefits to commercial producers choosing Texel.

The TERMINAL and REPLACEMENT INDEXES reflect the breed’s influence on industry, with both presented as the potential extra profit per commercial lamb born, over the population baseline. The TERMINAL INDEX is weighted for meat production and supports increased profitability through improving prime lambs. The REPLACEMENT INDEX includes additional maternal traits to optimise production of female replacements.

Commercial producers solely producing prime lambs should use the TERMINAL INDEX to inform their selection; however, those retaining female replacements should use the REPLACEMENT INDEX

Sub-indexes underpin the indexes to provide more information on the relative values and ranking of animals for growth, fat and muscle weight, and reproduction.

High ranking rams can deliver over £3.00 more per lamb than lower-ranking rams. Over a ram’s working lifetime, this is easily worth an extra £690 per ram; generated through shorter finish times and improved carcass quality. Index
