PRIME LAMBS
A market SQQ of 323p/kg achieved today with well finished lambs attracting keenest buyer interest topping at 398p/kg and others generally 350p/kg to 380p/kg, grass
finished lambs to 367p/kg with most 320p/kg to 335p/kg provided they fell within specification. Best of the heavy weights to 337p/kg, with most 270p/kg to 290p/kg for hill bred. Heavy weights led the sale topping at £181 with others £176, £175, £172, £170, standards to £175 and light weights £129.

Plenty of interest in cull sheep with another increase on numbers forward greeted with buyers approval. Better end continental cross ewes £175 to £200 topping at £222 from ST Birkett & Son, mediums £148 to £170. Mules topped at £169 from WB Kellet with other heavies £158 to £165, mediums £130 to £155. Pure hill ewes saw cheviots £148, Swaledale £107 with leaner horned ewes £75 to £95.
Several rams forward selling to £220 for texels.

PIGS
Big numbers land to J36 for its annual Christmas show and sale of pigs with 104 on o er. Judging was in the hands of Matthew Tomkins on behalf of Halls Farm Produce who we thank for his time this morning.
Champion honours went to the pair of gilts from J M Navesey, Darwenwhich later sold for £210 to the judge. Selling at £220 was the reserve champion pair of 85kg gilts from J and JR Stott, Kendal, this equating to a pleasing 259ppk
Away from the prizes, pigs broke the £200 mark from B Horsley, Leyburn and from John Critchley, Preston with many others £180-£200
A handful of weaners sold to £46for 12 from HA Sawrey, Ulverston.

Another Smashing Day at J36
Wall to wall with stock yet again at Junction 36 aw a fantastic entry of prime lambs top at £222 per head and £392.9 ppk.
38-44kg lambs were met with the highest demand today with buyers desperate for fit lambs of this weight class. Bigger lambs slightly more di icult to cash however well fed types still a joy to sell and up significantly on the year.
Robyn Allen brought an outstanding run of lambs topping with a pair of Beltex at 392.9 ppk at 42kgs. The same good home sold 44kgs to 375ppk. 43kg lambs from M and S Blease made 367.4ppk, while 39kg Texels hit 361.5 ppk from Messers CL Long and RH Knipe.
Heavy lambs topped pounds per head at £222 for a single Texel from Messers Woof. Robyn Allen also sold heavies to a good price with a single 52kg sheep making 357.7ppk. Super Will Rogerson saw his usual run of quality hit 350ppk for two pens of 5 and a pen of 10 48kgs Texels. Today overall average finished up at 312ppk with an SQQ of 318ppk.

CALVES
Christmas cheer lights up the calf trade at J36
Today sale featured the annual Christmas Show and Sale of calves which this year was kindly and expertly judged by Mrs Janet Sewell, Hamsterley. She found her Champion in the pen from Shuttleworth and Brown, Sedbergh and the reserve from A Pickthall, New Hutton. The show was kindly sponsored by Jameson Feeds and Wynnstay.
Bull calves sold over £900 on 8 occasions, topping at £1050 and £1030 for British Blues from CR Dickson, Thurnham. The show was for calves under 56 days of age with the champion from Shuttleworth and Brown selling next at £1020 to the judge. Bambers Farm brought their usual quality selling to £930, £920 and £910. With Langley Park Farms, Millom selling at £910 and £900 all for British Blues. The reserve champion a 6 week old British Blue from A Pickthall selling for £880. Charolais sold to £800 from TW & CA Long with others at £790 twice from SW and K Metcalfe, Whittington with this good home topping the natives at £690 for an Aberdeen Angus. Beef Shorthorn reached £610 from JW & TE Sharp, Lyth with Montbeliarde topping the dairy section at £470 from JS & IM Wilson, Millom.
Heifer calves to £850 for a Limousin from J & O Galbraith, Endmoor with British Blue to £810 from Bambers Farm. Charolais calves reached £670 from Dean & Brennand, Clapham with Abderdeen Angus at £660 from Langley Park, Millom. Month old heifers to £600 from DR & C Galbraith, Grayrigg with any amount £500+.

A great end to the stirks this year with an abundance of buyers ringside and vendors rewarded with a fast trade throughout. The eye-catching consignment of 40 Lim x steers & heifers (6/8m) from B Heyes, Manchester sold to £1660 for steers with other ringfulls selling at £1520, £1480. Other steers (8/10m) sold to £1150 for BRBx from RW Bainbridge & Son and £980 for HFDx from RM Clarke. Younger recently weaned AAx steers from Messrs Young sold at £810. Dairy steers selling to £1040 for B&W.

Santa comes early for store cattle vendors.
Festive spirit at Junction 36 sees the final store cattle sale of the year bring joy to sellers and hope to one and all in the industry.
Messrs MA & JA Winn for the win with 19month old British Blue Bullocks at £2230.00. Messrs M & L Preece sold Limousin bullocks to £2160 at 1 month old. Hereford bullocks topped at £2040 from Messrs TD ME & E Todd again at 17 month old.
MA & JA Winn also topped the heifer section today selling a British Blue for £2140. The same home had a Limousin heifer at £2030. 10 month old Limousin from Messrs T W Nelson hit £1940.

Trade for all classes and types remaining strong with farmers looking to o load passengers ahead of the Christmas period. Beef cows sold to 289.5p/kg for AA x from M Allen with other better end 265p/kg-280p/kg. Dairy cows topped at 249.5p/kg for B&W from RR & JA Knowles, mediums 225p/kg-245p/kg with leaner end 195p/kg-205p/kg. Top grossing today was a heavyweight B&W from M&S Blease totalling £2493 with Beef cows to £2088 for a Galloway from Forest Hall.
OTM heifers sold to 284.5p/kg & £1823 for B&W from Strickland Hill Farming with steers to 344.5p/kg & £2053 for BRBx from JW Robinson & Son.

Calves galore at Lancaster Christmas show.
No less than 157 through the little ring today, with all classes selling to a sharp and festive trade.
The sale included a show for calves under 56 days, judging was in the capable hands of Josh France, who we thank for his time and expertise, he awarded the following prizes:

Bull calves topped at £980 for a Charolais from G&ME Woodhouse, Ellel with the reserve champion a British Blue from AD&RL Milner, Brock selling for £960 at one month and 6 days old. Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £910 x4 from RE&P Miller, Garstang with Hereford achieving £880 from JS Towers & H Kent, Dolphinholme. The youngest 30 day
old calves sold to £610 for Charolais from GJ&G Billington, Garstang or £600 for a British Blue from Bamber Farm, Brock. Black and Whites sold to £350 from JS Towers & H Kent. Heifer calves sold to £850 for British Blues from JM&MH France, Littledale with Aberdeen Angus to £810 x2 from JS Towers & H Kent. Charolais to £610 from Wallbank Farms, with month olds to £520 and £510 from GJ&G Billington. A handful of stirks followed sold to £1440 for a British Blue bulls from K&DE Woodhouse, Ellel who sold Aberdeen Angus bulls to £1320. Heifer stirks sold to £950 for Aberdeen Angus from AJ Metcalf, Out Rawcli e.

STORE CATTLE
Todays sale included the Christmas prize show of store cattle which was kindly judged by Mr Andrew Ashford, Bedale who awarded the championship rosette and the‘Tom Owen Memorial Trophy’to Mr D Moorhouse, Natland showing a pair of Limousin cross steers. The heifer class was won by Mr P Cummings, Burton in Kendal who showed a pair of Limousin heifers. A special prize for the best pair of homebred animals was awarded to Pilling Hall, Pilling who put forward a pair of Limousin cross steers which were also awarded the reserve championship rosette.

Todays sale topped at £2750 for the prize winning pair of Limousin cross steers from Pilling Hall with other stronger end, short keep sterrs £2500 to £2700 with mediums £2100 to £2400. Dairy bred steers sold to £2520 for Montbelliarde from DW Robinson. Heifers saw a top price of £2550 for the prize winning pair of Limousin from P Cummings with other pens of well grown heifers £2250 to £2400 with medium keep £1750 to £2100.
A mixed entry of feeding bulls saw a top price of £1580 for Limousin cross from M&RW Stirzaker with others £1420 to £1550 and younger Beef Shorthorns sold to £1180.

Buyers keen to secure cows ahead of the festive period, with all sold today averaging 244p/kg. Best beef cows were regularly 295p/kg to 310p/kg, topping at 329.5p/kg for a Limousin cross from TW Gorst. Dairies sold to 279.5p/kg for a Fleckvieh from B&AC Barnes and black and whites to 259.5p/kg from AW&AM Park & Son, parlour types were 225p/kg to 240p/kg, with leanest sorts less. Top grossing today was £2420 or a Limousin from B&SE Carter.
OTM beef heifers to sold 369.5p/kg for a Limousin cross from FI&ME Little and £2304 for Aberdeen Angus cross from TJ Robinson. Dairies sold to 299.5p/kg and £1973.
Beef steers sold to 294.5p/kg and £1554.
Cull bulls to 369.5p/kg for a young Limousin from P Cummings. Aberdeen Angus sold to 249.5p/kg and £2749 from CM&CA Jackson.
