NWA J36 Second Gimmer Lamb Sale Thursday 6th October The second sale of Gimmer Lambs at J36 Rural Auction Centre had an entry of 1,114 forward for the sale. The entry was mainly made up by Mule gimmer lambs with the majority being running lambs and young hill lambs. A brisk trade throughout the sale with buyers looking to purchase lambs with potential of growing out into shearlings. The trade topped at £101 for Mules from Brian Dodd of Selside, with lambs fit to tup selling in the early nineties. Plenty of running lambs sold in the late seventies with bonnier stronger types achieving £80. A small number of Mashams forward for the sale sold to a top of £86 from JE Read of Mealrigg. Cheviot mule gimmer lambs from Ian Dixon of Low Newton sold to £77 and £72. Continental gimmer lambs topped at £88 from B & M Slater of Daub Hall. North West Auctions J36 had 2208 Store Lambs forward at the fortnightly sale. There was a great show of sheep on offer, which sold to a packed ringside of buyers from up and down the country. All classes of Lambs were keenly bid for with vendors leaving happy with their trade. Top price of the day was for a Suffolk Lamb from T Redmayne, Gowan Bank. Charollais Lambs sold to a top price of £67 from Coward Brothers of Kirkby Hall, with Charollais averaging £60. Texels sold to £67 from RH Redmayne of Windermere and Mule Lambs topped at £62 from JF Cook, Witherslack. Good condition and short keep lambs were in strong demand with long keep lambs having the biggest increase on the day. Nice tight coated skinned lambs with shape were exceptionally bid for with Store Lambs averaging £56.20. The next sale of Store Lambs will be held on Thursday 20th October which will include ‘Gathering o’th’ Fells’ a show for Mule, Lowland, Cheviot and Horned Store Lambs in pens of 20. Please advise the office of entries where a list of entries will be produced, lambs will be penned on arrival to the market and a ballot drawn 10 minutes prior to the sale.
