Weekly Report and Newsletter - 24th September J36 Rural Auction Centre: 2nd Sale of Gimmer Shearlings & Breeding Ewes Saturday 18th September J36 Rural Auction Centre held is second sale of Mule and Continental ewes and gimmer shearlings, there was a catalogue entry of 1200 forward, that saw first quality sheep in big demand and eagerly bid for, with medium quality sheep also meeting plenty of demand from a busy ring side. There was sheep forward to suit all specifications and budgets. The sale commences with breeding ewes which saw one crop Mules sell to £160 from T Sharp, Oxenholme, with other 1 crops to £150 from J&T Hunter, Dent. The flock dispersal of Mule ewes from FW Sanders, Low Newton twice sold to £150 and £145. Continental ewes peaked at £165 from Ellen Proctor, Barrow in Furness. Mule gimmer shearlings saw best quality ones keenly bid for with the consignment from TH Gibson & Son, Staveley leading the way, twice selling to £ 220 and £200. This was closely followed by the consignment from JS&KM Wilson & Son, Kendal selling to £195 three times, £190 and £180, Cheviot Mule gimmer shearlings from the same home, sold to a top of £220. Texel and Continental shearlings met a mixed trade, with best quality once again in big demand and regularly bid for. The consignment from Ellen Proctor, Barrow in Furness sold to £200 and £190. Texel x shearlings from JS&KM Wilson & Son, Kendal sold to £195 and £190, followed by other pens of Texel shearlings to £190 and £188 from J Almond & L Crosland, Cockermouth. All shearlings forward today averaged £154.86.
Lancaster Auction Mart: Sale of Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep - Monday 20th September PRIME LAMBS Lancaster auction had an increased entry of 863 prime lambs forward selling to an overall market average of 209p/kg. Lancaster buyers ensured that all pens of lambs were eagerly bid for with buyers tonight looking to purchase well finished lambs especially those that have been fed hard feed. Butcher buyers at Lancaster ensure them good quality confirmation lambs meet a strong trade. a pair of 49kg Beltex lambs from Andrew Butler lead the way selling to £128 purchased by Michael Lomax on behalf of Gregory Williams butcher shop in Lancaster. Heavy weight lambs continue to add up well with 54kg Texel lambs selling to £126 from S Bosworth, Burnley. Other leading prices for well finished heavy lambs sold to £116 from CD & HL Mason, Caton weighing 49kg with others to £115 from T & D Wright, Wray with £114 achieved by AT Alcock, Inskip and J & R Waller, Killington. The Waller family also topped the Suffolk section at £110. Handy weighted lambs saw buyers looking for well finished lambs and very cautious of the leaner types.
