Weekly Report and Newsletter - 18th June 2021 Lancaster Auction Mart: Sale of Spring Lambs and Cast Sheep - 14th June 2021 SPRING LAMBS Lancaster continues to have a buoyant trade for spring lambs with a busy ring of buyers, all keen to purchase lambs. For the time of year lambs are selling to a great trade with our average this week 303p/kg. Taking top spot this week was a 52kg Texel lambs from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale selling to £170 purchased by Gregory Williams Butchers Shop, Lancaster. Heavy weight lambs continue to meet a good demand and sell to premium. 47kg Texel lambs sold to £164 from G H Sanderson & Family, Catforth. Followed by other heavy weight Texel lambs to £157 from JT & B Fox, Quernmore and £156 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale.
A cracking consignment of lambs from R A Holmes, Inskip sold to £155 and £154 with Beltex x lambs from this consignment peaking at 358p/kg. Top p/kg this week was 361p/kg for a cracking pair of Beltex lambs from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth. Plenty of pens of best butcher’s type lambs easily selling in excess of 350p/kg. Suffolk lambs this week topped at £143 from J & R Waller, Killington with others selling to £138 from WN & D Smith & Sons, Cockerham. Light weight lambs continue to be a strong trade with 34kg Texels selling to £109 from P & AJ Whitaker & Son, Quernmore. Lancaster continues to require more lambs each week. CAST SHEEP Slightly fewer cast ewes forward this week, with more needed to fulfil our buyers at Lancaster with our trade remaining very buoyant. Continental tups led the way selling to £140 from G H Sanderson & Family, Catforth. Cast sheep peaked at £130 for Charollais ewes from T M Townley, Over Wyresdale with other Charollais ewes to £121 from D & E Whitaker, Quernmore. Continental ewes sold to £118 from J & CJ Redmayne, Samlesbury. Suffolk ewes peaked at £114 from K A Purtill, Wigan. Mule ewes peaked at £112 from D & E Whitaker, Quernmore whom sold others to £108. Plenty of Mule and Continental sheep easily selling in excess of the £100 mark. Hill bred sheep saw Swaledale tups sell to £90 from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead with Swaledale ewes from the same home achieving £83.
