Weekly Report and Newsletter - 1st October Lancaster Auction Mart: Sale of Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep - Monday 27th September A small entry of 629 prime lambs forward today which was met with strong demand from Lancasters busy ring side of buyers, which also included a new face this week. There was an overall market average of 218p/kg. Leading the way this week was A&E Clarkson, Thurnham selling Texel lambs to £124 or 276p/kg. Beltex lambs sold to 261p/kg or £115 from JS Horner, Ingleton. Heavy weight lambs continue to meet plenty of demand, with 50kg Texels selling to £119 from CG Redmayne, Samlesbury, followed by others to £117 from H Birkett & Son, Overton. Plenty of pens of heavy weight lambs sold between £110-£116. Handy weighted lambs saw the trade depended upon their quality and finish, with nicer types often selling to 220p/kg and beyond. There was more hill bred lambs forward today, which saw 52kg Mules sell to £109 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale, with 51kg Mules £108.50 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale and Masham lambs from the same home selling to £107. The cast sheep trade remains buoyant, with buyers in the market eager to purchase all specification. Texel ewes led the way selling to £124 and £114 from TR Prickett, New Hutton. Plenty of Continental ewes selling to above the £100 mark. Mule ewes peaked at £98 from RH&C Ayrton, Abbeystead with plenty of strong pens selling around the £90 mark.
